Update: Before and after my complaint, the manager, America, at this location and every employee I've encountered here were and are super friendly and helpful. They and their main and regional offices all responded extremely quickly to my complaint and wanted to make it right. That's very much appreciated. I think a great solution would be to not bury the fine print so far from the pricing but put a short notice below the pricing for each unit - simply that price is subject to change at anytime with 15 days notice. I certainly would've paused and considered other options. Original one star review: Bait and switch pricing. Increased my rent 65% after less than 3 months with only 20 days notice. You have to scroll down 6 pages to find the fine print that says they can change pricing at any time with 15 days notice. This is a summer storage unit for my daughter's dorm and we're not local so it wouldn't make sense for us to fly out and move to another facility. Will never do business with them again. Utterly ridiculous and shady business practice. read more

America was great. She helped me figure out some storage issues I was having and helped me get another unit that would be more cost effective and was able to still hold all of my stuff. read more

I don't often write reviews but decided to share my positive experience with America, the new StorageMart property manager at the Goose Island facility, located at 1015 N Halsted St. in Chicago. I was actually a storage customer at this location before moving to New York city in 1999 and prior to the business being taken over by StorageMart. Furthermore, I was a Manhattan Mini Storage which was acquired by StorageMart in 2021. Upon moving back to Chicago in 2015, I naturally went back to the same location, which was now owned by StorageMart. All in all, I've been a StorageMart customer for more than 20-years! I feel this context is important in providing a credible review. My experience with Joey who was the property manager in 2015 when I moved back to Chicago was tremendous. I understand he is still with the company. Similarly, when there was a recent billing issue with my unit, America who is the current property manager provided outstanding customer service in working to rectify the matter. Not only did she immediately email the regional manager, but she also provided me with regular updates on the status until it was remedied. America took a very personal approach, which is rare these days when it comes to customer service. I've read that StorageMart CEO Cris Burnam has instilled a customer-centric environment at the company and that it been recognized with outstanding customer service awards from both Newsweek and Training Top 100. America, the property manager at the 1015 N Halsted in Chicago is a perfect reason why. read more

I had a storage unit for 3 years, paying $615 per month. I cleared my unit out in the middle of the month on April 22. I was expecting a refund for the days remaining in the month, about $150. I was told they pro-rate the charge to you if you move in mid-month but do not pro-rate the refund if you move out mid-month. read more

We've had a storage unit at this location for many years, most of which were trouble-free. Unfortunately, the air conditioning unit above our unit malfunctioned, flooding our unit and destroying some of our items. StorageMart has both refused to give us notes confirming what their staff have said - the leaks were their fault - and refused to reimburse us for our items which were destroyed through StorageMart's sole negligence. We shouldn't have to make a claim on our insurance policy because StorageMart can't properly maintain its premises. Renter beware. EDIT: (Added after the comment below.) StorageMart - I've raised the issue with your claims team and they basically said "the contract you signed keeps you from getting money from us for any reason - you can file a claim with your homeowners or sue us." It's fine to have a pleasant voice on social media but folks should know that this is how your company operates! If you want to reach out, I'm sure you can track me down as you do related to payments. You guys just don't care to! read more

This is the worse storage facility I've ever used . it's dark . There are no lights in the unit. The units have small house room sized doors. There were only 3 broken carts for the entire facility. There is only access while the office is open so you have to be done by 5:30 Monday through Friday, even earlier on Saturday and they are not open on Sunday.. There were roaches crawling outside the unit across from my unit on the wall. My vintage Mrs.Clause giant musical ornament has been eaten through by mice. 3 days after my bill was due on a$130 unit, I said I wanted to move out. I was told I'd be charged $68 for a prorated amount for 4 days that was actually half a months rent. There is one very rude unprofessional woman who talks really nasty. You can not use the industrial garbage can for even small trash. I was also told the only form of payment upon money was a money order , very inconvenient and again in the amount of half a months rent for 4 days after payment was due! read more

While I've generally liked the facility and the location, they simply do not have enough carts. There are only four in the entire 7-story facility. Apparently, they've had several stolen in the last year but haven't replaced them. Four carts isn't enough when there are nearly 2,000 lockers. As a result, I had a team of three movers sitting idle while one went and chased down a cart. This was expensive and unnecessary. I called to complain and frankly, just got a pile of excuses. This negates much of the good aspects of the facility. We're thinking of moving our storage location as a result. read more

First time using a storage unit, overall a great experience. Joey was professional and helpful when it came to sign up and answering any of my questions. Honestly, that was the core of the experience. I tried calling to get information about rates and access times-it just turned out to be a waste of time. Drive here, talk to Joey, and get moving. Stand up guy who makes it simple to get setup. No tricks or hassles when moving out. Overall it was a fantastic experience. I will recommend to all my associates. read more

If you are looking for a safe, friendly and reliable storage facility, this StorageMart is the one to chose. I have been using this StorageMart for just over a year and love it. Although I only use it for business purposes, if I had enough personal items to store I would most certainly rent a unit at this location. The staff members are fantastic. Always willing to help and always fun to talk to... It's nice to go into the office and know I will be greeted with a friendly "hello" or "What's new?" The first person I met when I started using this location was Adam. After the first time I went he remembered my name and who I worked for. He is always willing to help... especially when I'm too short to reach something hanging from the ceiling in one of the units. I travel for my job so when some shipments come in I am not able to make it to StorageMart right away to put them in my unit. But that's okay, I know they will make sure the boxes are kept safe and sometimes they are already on a cart and ready to go(those days are my lucky days =]). They don't complain or throw a fit when I ask if they can be stored for a couple days until I am back in town which is wonderful. There are weeks where I spend just as much time at StorageMart that I do my own office, however, I don't mind. I feel safe at this location, the people (staff and fellow renters) are very friendly and I know if I need something who ever is on site and working at the time will help me. read more

StorageMart is amazing!! The customer service is always great! The units are clean and I always feel safe by myself at their facilities. As if all of this wasn't enough to convince you to trust them with your business, they have huge and giving hearts to non profit organizations in the community that have storage needs. read more

I have to say, it's a solid facility. Clean, secure and the people are extremely accommodating. read more

My initial experience was slightly tainted because we had a poor experience with one of the employees who was very pregnant. She spent more time rubbing her belly than explaining the insurance policy requirement for storage lockers, so my husband and I were shocked when we received a separate line item charge for insurance. Thankfully, manager Joey came to the rescue and quickly removed the charge after we provided our homeowners insurance policy. He was very professional and kind. We then went in to purchase a second locker and worked with RD, who was very courteous and helped us choose the perfect locker. We are SO happy with the arrangement and can't speak more highly of this Storage-Mart location! Joey and RD really care about the facility and their customers - and it shows. read more

I've had storage units at many different facilities in Chicago and various parts of the suburbs... so thst being said, his particular StorageMart is...average. There's much worse, but this place has its issues and definitely isn't anywhere near the best either. Though advertised as 24 hour access, the access hours are only until 7:00pm which is VERY inconvenient. Most non-24 hour facilities usually have access until at least 9:00pm - 11:00pm so this place closing at 7:00pm is just ridiculously early.... (i think it USED to be 24 hours but they've just never updated the information online which is irritating.) The elevators are pretty horrible.... often at least 1 of them will be out of service.... Not only that, but DOZENS of times while using the elevator (the one located by the main loading area) the elevator would just suddenly stop a good 7 - 9 inches before it had reached my floor, and wouldn't move any higher.... which then having to manage picking up a heavy cart full of stuff 7 - 9 inches to pull it out of the elevator was extremely difficult and irritating (im a 5'7'' and 120lb female so I struggled whenever having to do that, except for the few times I luckily had my male friend with me to help) There's usually a lack of carts, but that's a problem with most facilities. Actually, about a year after I had moved out of this place, and had a storage unit somewhere else... I was finally just so fed up with nearly EVERY a storage facility having a lack of carts that I finally just saved up about $40-$50 to buy my own cart! lmao! It's a bit smaller than the ones storage facilities have, but it folds up so it takes up very little space in the unit. I highly recommend doing that if you hate waiting for people to be done using the carts all the time! The staff is at least friendly, never had any issues with employees during the time I had storage here. Though, anytime I told them about that elevator issue of it stopping before reaching the floor, they always said they'd "check it out" but didn't seem to care really. Though this is a fairly old building, this facility is pretty clean and well-lit in the hallways which is nice. The loading area at this facility is something I miss about it, much more room than loading areas at a lot of other facilities. Even if other people are loading/unloading, there's still enough room to load/unload easily, The best thing about this place in my opinion is the location. Pretty convenient area, and easy to find the building. read more

We have rented storage space from this StorageMart for 5 years. The people have always been professional, courteous and helpful with any questions. This is a great facility. The staff is helpful and friendly and goes out of its way to match you with the right sized unit. The facility is old but solid and clean. The building and units are secure. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. The location is absolutely central in Chicago, so it's easy to get to from the loop or surrounding neighborhoods. The building is in great shape and is a very large industrial building with tall timber ceilings. I had a unit on the 7th floor and I never saw any sign of outside moisture in the building. Very well maintained and kept. I no longer needed my unit, so I emptied it and took the lock from the door. Their staff noticed this the next day, and let me end my agreement that day despite a 2 week policy. VERY nice of them to do so, and great service! read more

This is the first time I've used a storage facility and didn't know what to expect. I couldn't have been more pleased with the service RD provided in showing me what was available and making the process quick and painless. Great price (I had called around before going over), first month free, and a couple tips that'll help me get the most out of the time I'm there. I haven't actually moved in yet so can't comment on the availability of carts but don't think there'll be any problems. read more

I just spent 1.5 hours getting to the location to remove some items from my unit. The sign on the door says access is available until 7 PM. I arrived at 6:35 and the door was locked. Someone was leaving so I was able to get in but found the elevator was not moving. I called the number on the door and spoke to someone and she said access is closed at 7PM. When I explained that I had arrived ar 6:35 she kept saying "access is closed at 7:00." Do you understand my frustration? If your posted hours end at 7 PM, THEN STAY OPEN UNTIL 7 PM. I'm glad that I'm moving my stuff out of here. Hopefully I can get in and use the elevator next time I try to access my unit. read more

StorageMart punishes you for being a long term customer, with frequent and sizable price increases. What a great way to do business, driving prices up for the customers that pay you month after month, making it more expensive to be a long-term customer than a new customer. Actively discouraging customer loyalty, while they hide behind a blanket 'cost of doing business policy'. We have had a unit here for more than two years, but will be taking our business elsewhere as the most recent price increase has made this just ridiculous. read more

Dishonest when signing up. Said 10 pm access to get me to sign up, but I have had nothing but trouble accessing on weekdays. AVOID if you need to access your property mon-fri. But at least they're quick and on time soaking money from my account each month... Look elsewhere. read more

Great Facility! Manager and staff are helpful in explaining the process, the area and facility are very safe and well lit. The only reason why this review was docked a star was because the elevator does not have automatic doors (you have to open and close a heavy door by yourself) and they allow a company to store large pallets of merchandise in one of their move in garages. There is no way to move large items through this garage while those items are there, so you have to move around back to the secondary garage. This was only a minor inconvenience, but still it is misleading to say that you can use that first garage to move in, and then see a blocked door once you enter your pass code. Would absolutely recommend this place to others. read more

Have had such a positive experience with Storage Mart. After a horrible battle with a slum landlord, I found myself needing to get out of my apartment fast, with nowhere to put my stuff. Storage mart hooked me up with a first month greatly reduced, a free moving truck included, and a lot of support. My stuff is always safe, clean, and climate controlled, and the folks at Storage Mart are super helpful. A nice departure from other storage unit companies who don't deliver on their promises! I love Storage Mart and would recommend them to anyone. read more
