Public Storage on Wells has been a perfect solution for me, from July through December 2020. The online rental setup system is one of the best ecommerce experiences. It's a straightforward hand-holding through the entire process. (Goodwill gained) When I showed up to do recon, the guy on staff was great. I had my own two padlocks and was supposed to get stickers, but he went up to put them on after I left. Every staff member has been courteous and helpful on each of my many visits. (more Goodwill) Locks and boxes and packing material can be purchased on site, but I had all my own stuff. I rented a 10x10 that was clean and dry. I probably could have gone with a smaller unit if I made better use of vertical space, but I didn't want to stack my totes too high. They had a good 1st month deal plus a discount that lasted for some portion of my tenancy. Is tenancy the right word? I didn't live there. I read that a stealthy kid ran an extension cord into his unit and lived there secretly for awhile. Fridge, computer, bed--cheaper than a college dorm. There's no bathroom or plumbing though, so... I don't want to think about it. Negatives are trivial and few: The climate control was meh. Very hot in summer and cold in winter. You're not planning to move in so big deal. And the rolling garage-type door system could have been tightened up--I bashed my head a couple times because it didn't stay rolled up, but that's partially my fault. I recommend this Public Storage without reservation and commend the staff. read more

I rented a 10 x 10 here. Started at $250 mo and within 3 years was raised to $421 mo. You are required to purchase their insurance. Unit was broken into and the robbers stole jewelry and other precious heirlooms - insurance covered nothing. If you store there you need receipts or appraisals for every single item- oh and they don't cover jewelry at all. There was no camera on the row where my unit was. When I moved out I saw that there is a camera now. 11 units were broken into and oddly only two in my row. Kind of seems like an inside job since they track each visit. I hardly ever went there. Plus the units broken into weren't consecutive and seemed more selective. The whole experience was a giant ripoff and a terrible waste of money. Plus I am certain they did nothing to investigate into who did this! Even though I filed a police report as I am sure the other 10 victims did I have no faith CPD looked into this. Mouse droppings - see pics Mixed feedback on employees. - July 18 staff was unprofessional; I asked to borrow a cart and she yelled the whole time ' I'm going home' and ' I didn't sign up for this'. Next, she yelled at me about a truck I didn't own. Granted, it was busy but she added to the confusion rather than provide advice on how all the tenants could work together. - July 24 Manny was refreshing! Great Customer Service at the Old Town Wells location. They allowed us to stay inside and chat while movers were helping us out.

WARNING!!! My belongings were severely damaged at this facility. After speaking to the manager about finding my boxes wet clearly from water damage he told me it was condensation from winter to summer weather changes. Guess what, I only had this unit for 2.5 months,having recently stored more items since discovering the water damage and mold. The property manager was not emphatic and even told me to put the wet items with mold back in the unit, which would have clearly damaged more items. read more

I'm in the process of moving (ugghhh) and being the shopaholic that I am I have a ton of stuff....which means I need lots of boxes for my move. I bought a bunch of boxes at Staples, which I went through in about a day so stopped in here to get some more boxes today. I can't speak for their storage units because I haven't used them, but their boxes are cheap...well, cheap in comparison to the boxes I bought at Staples. $14 for 4 large boxes and 1 small box! Free boxes would be even better, but if you have to buy them not bad at all! I'll be back when I move again in 2 months...yep, I get the joy of moving twice this Summer! read more

I just used them to buy boxes and other moving items. Prices were reasonable but what stood out was Brittany. I walked there and had planned to grab a taxi or an Uber back. Unfortunately my phone died so I couldn't Uber and there were no taxis. Without asking me, she got on her phone and called for a car service for me. If I could give this company ZERO stars I would. I wish I would have never trusted this place to store my things. Whilst there are many other companies that are being extremely accommodating during a PANDEMIC. This company lacks compassion, sympathy and service. I am currently using UHAUL and not only are the rates cheaper, the service is better. Unless you like throwing money in the garbage, do not rent here!! I cannot stress this enough. read more

This is a good store to buy storage boxes. I needed a large enough storage box to fit a 50 inch HDTV. The box had to be not only big enough, but secure in the inside so when it is transported to not move around and not scratch the screen. The box I purchased was not only big enough to store the box, but came with a antic static bag, and foam corners to safely secure the TV...all for the price of $25. Not a bad price. Manny, who was working at the time, was very helpful and explained why this was the best box to securely store my tv. Even though there where no boxes on display, he was kind enough to get one from their extra area for me. That was a godsend since I needed that box asap. He was knowledgeable and personable. If I need more boxes in the future I will definitely be back. read more

Yvette was so super nice and accommodating. We had originally reserved a 10x10 but realized on inspection the door frame was too short to get a metal piece of equipment thru it. We couldn't duck or tilt the item. The only unit that would accommodate the height was the next size up. Yvette worked her magic and went out of her way to get us into a 10x15 which are in great demand at this location. She also worked with corporate to get us the best price possible. We were so greatly since we are on a tight budget right now. Yvette rocks!!! read more

UHAUL made a huge blunder and told me that i could store motorcycles at their facility when I actually couldn't - I had a huge moving truck and 2 bikes with no where to go. Is there a way to give someone a negative stars. If you want to RECEIVE PACKAGES at this location DO NOT USE THEM!!!!! They will tell you that you can receive packages and that they will sign for them, however a current employee Cathy Evans will REJECT your packages. She mentioned to me it's too much work, when all she had to do is sign for delivery driver and call the unit holder and let them know that they have a package. * they also claim its climate controlled hahaha it's not... Oh but wait there's more! If you're looking for a dolly to use welllllllll they only have 1, so good luck. One of the elevators opens and closes every 30 seconds to a minute. I feel totally unsafe there and canNOT wait for move out day to come. Parking if other cars are parked inside is a nightmare, unless you don't mind a few scratches and dings on your vehicle. Called the corporate office to discuss my package issue (the reason why I picked public storage) they now tell me that I can leave a key for the UPS/Fedx drivers to put the boxes in my unit. Even though I wouldn't allow Evans to have my key, this should of been still given to me as an option by the employee who works there... But I guess that was too difficult for her to do also. After 10 years of using different storage facilities I have NEVER experience anything likeI have here... Only been here 2 week and moving out this weekend to Life Storage. First of all, Manny (employee) is so nice and really helpful. The storage space itself and the facility is disgusting. My belongings are covered in mold and dust, most of which I will be throwing away and all of my stuff has dead moths and living larvae. I don't care if there was a virus or not, if you don't want to be there to begin with then don't be there. Attendee completely rude and does not want to service. Just had to pay $50 "CLEANING FEE" cuz I left a freaking paper box over there in a rush to leave Chicago. Complete rip off too for such a small space. It is only the second time I have had to write a review. This is by far the worst experience I have ever dealt with and I advise that unless you want roaches all over your items and mold/fungus on your belongings to stay away. I lost $15k of nice furniture while my new place was under construction because I trusted this to be a clean well taken care of place. I was wrong. The manager admitted fault but that meant nothing to cooperate and not only were rude and unsympathetic. I had to leave my items behind because they were destroyed and because insurance required an inspection and what does public storage do... they send me to collections after refusing to pay for the month after finding my items destroyed. They dont call back and just dont care. Plenty of other companies out there, do not use these crooks. read more

The most incapable staff I've ever dealt with in any business. They take a reservation, but don't hold your reservation - so when you show up what you thought you reserved may have actually been given away. SO WHAT IS THE POINT OF THE RESERVATION!? I was told to call the manager via the 1-800 number to speak directly with them and have this sorted out saying that was just protocol but they could reserve a unit and know the availability - false. How do you not know what you will have available at any given time when running this business? I would highly suggest looking elsewhere...anywhere elsewhere. read more

I had a full Uhaul van and was in a bind to offload my belongings on a tight timeline. Luckily, I was able to book a storage unit same day with Public Storage. I arrived a minute before close and the associate, Marie, was extremely accommodating in making sure I secured my unit before they closed up for the day. I was overwhelmed with the storage options in Chicago, but was pleased to have worked with Lisa at Public Storage on Wells. She made the process very simple and was thorough, informing me of all the options and information I needed. I ended up renting the unit she showed me that day. I picked up various types of boxes here several times while packing. Each of the employees who helped me were cheerful and knowledgeable. They were even patient with my indecisiveness. This place is a pathetic excuse for a place for storage and I am glad I chose Life Storage which is not too far from it. It is not clean and you would probably have better luck storing your items in your back ally. The manager, Ivan, seemed nice but I was rudely treated by an employee there at the front desk and he did not seem to care. I felt like wanting to pay them money to keep my items there was an inconvenience to this employee, named Kathy I believe. I do not know if she is Ivan's wife or relative and that is why she is an employee here, but she cost them a few storage units from my company. If you are looking for a place where you want to be treated poorly, store your items in a spider web infested unit, or have a heck of a time trying to get in and out then this is your place! Martin A was great to work with and made the sign up process quick and simple. He was friendly and took his time despite the fact we arrived 15 minutes before closing time. I agree with the previous review. This facility isn't safe. There are actually people who LIVE in the facility---in the units!! It isn't safe to go in there in the dark. There always seems to be people wandering around looking for open lockers. read more
