    3/16/2023: Public Storage made it right. They cut the old lock off that the key was broke in and put a new lock on . No charge. Thank you Public Storage for making things right.

    No carts

    I am writing to complain because this has not been the first time I have experienced customer service issues at this location and reverse racism. This daytime manager or staff member, because I have had multiple encounters with her during the day. Absolutely, needs to be retrained on customer service to their loyal customers. I have held an up to date account at this location since Summer of 2022, and my rent has been raised three times. I don't pass by this storage often as holiday decorations and artwork is stored in my unit. However almost every time I pass there is always an issue with the property. They require you to buy their lock. This is fine however the lock I initially bought with the unit was not good, over the course of 6-8 months I had broken both keys. This happened when my father was helping me move some boxes into the unit. We had walked down to the front desk this same employee I have problems with was working. We explained the situation, she said there was nothing she could do, she always seems to be going on her "lunch break" and this is important to her because she always explains how she is sick of being bothered on her breaks. She said the lock needed to be cut off by someone who comes in only once a month and I would have to wait. My father was very upset. However, we still treated her with kindness and respect and she could have cared less about the frustration in our voices. My father then wrote two honest reviews about the property and level of customer service lacking on a consistent basis. The district manager saw our reviews and this employee called me back the next day and said my lock would be removed. There have been a handful of times I had random questions very easy or the keypad was not working. This exact employee continues to treat me with zero respect and as if I am bothering her, there have been multiple times I have catered to her timing or " lunch break" and let it go. However, today I too was on my lunch break, and simply wanted a cart to carry 8 boxes up to my unit. I arrived around 1pm, she had walked out and I asked her for the carts. She said she needed to go upstairs and just got the elevator to work. I said okay no problem and continue to wait patiently for about another 5 minutes. She walks out of the office and says that she has to take her lunch now, and cannot bring down the carts right away. I asked her very nicely and respectfully if she could bring one down for me please, as I was on a time crunch. She continued to raise her voice at me, cut me off by raising her voice. In security camera footage if there is sound, you would hear myself not raising my voice but asking nicely and she tells me she won't and she has been cursed out all day by customers. Also; asked me in my job when it is time to take my lunch and a customer bothers me, do I help them. I can only speak for myself but yes, I help especially a simple problem as getting a cart on the top floor. During our exchange a man with brown skin walked in and said hello to her, I ended this conversation explaining to her how I again did not want to complain about her, but her disregard for people well now I am thinking she does not like people with fair skin. I had carried 8 boxes up without a cart. On one of my last trips, this man who pulled in after me had a cart. However I looked around and this employee was no where to be seen. I continued with my boxes as I was pressed for time. When I was done with all my trips 4 specifically. I saw there were 3 carts outside as there usually is, there is something called reverse racism or we can call it racism. She definitely has an issue with people with fair skin. She needs to be retrained in customer service and educated how to treat people. She should take pride in her job and some sort of integrity and these she lacks. I would not recommend this place to anyone, in terms of simple customer service they lack.

    MOLD

    MOLD I moved to Chicago from NY 4 months ago. I stored my valuables in a med-sized but overpriced unit the Public Storage W Chicago Ave location. Upon move in four months ago, the smell of MOLD was overwhelming and I told manager about it and made several calls to corporate office to report. Additionally, the manager, on several occasions, was belligerent, angry, rude, refused to give me a cart and I was scared of her. The two movers that moved me out were upset by her behavior as well. After the district manager failed to make restitution for the costs I incurred as my boxes were gathering MOLD, I finally repacked boxes with MOLD and moved to a clean, MOLD free facility. Absolutely bizarre and disturbing place with pre-existing conditions and judging from other reviews, this has been going on for quite some time. DO NOT use this facility.

My 1st visit was really good as Maria showed me around and explained how the units worked. Upon hearing that I would need my storage unit for a couple more weeks Maria extended my reservation to keep my rate and that really helped. On move in day I was given a phone call the day before, to check to make sure what time I was going to arrive. I was able to reschedule my time when I realised that the time slot didn't work any longer. The office staff were very flexible with helping me out. I was able to complete the whole moving process in less than 30 minutes. Overall I am happy with my unit I end up getting a 10 by 7 and a 1/2. I do like the ease of unloading my S UV into their docking station. I appreciate the climate control as it can get really hot during the summer and I was worried about my electronics. This was the true reason I picked this location even though about $50 more per month than the location about 2 miles away. All in all super excited about the fringe benefits of this location, To include utilization of a moving truck. The nice thing is that they allow you to use the moving truck up to 2 weeks from your moving date. This alone is going to save me a $150.

(more Goodwill) Locks and boxes and packing material can be purchased on site, but I had all my own stuff. I rented a 10x10 that was clean and dry. I probably could have gone with a smaller unit if I made better use of vertical space, but I didn't want to stack my totes too high. They had a good 1st month deal plus a discount that lasted for some portion of my tenancy. Is tenancy the right word? I didn't live there. I read that a stealthy kid ran an extension cord into his unit and lived there secretly for awhile. Fridge, computer, bed--cheaper than a college dorm. There's no bathroom or plumbing though, so... I don't want to think about it. Negatives are trivial and few: The climate control was meh. Very hot in summer and cold in winter. You're not planning to move in so big deal. And the rolling garage-type door system could have been tightened up--I bashed my head a couple times because it didn't stay rolled up, but that's partially my fault. I recommend this Public Storage without reservation and commend the staff.

If you store there you need receipts or appraisals for every single item- oh and they don't cover jewelry at all. There was no camera on the row where my unit was. When I moved out I saw that there is a camera now. 11 units were broken into and oddly only two in my row. Kind of seems like an inside job since they track each visit. I hardly ever went there. Plus the units broken into weren't consecutive and seemed more selective. The whole experience was a giant ripoff and a terrible waste of money. Plus I am certain they did nothing to investigate into who did this! Even though I filed a police report as I am sure the other 10 victims did I have no faith CPD looked into this. All in all - this is a terrible place to trust your belongings

    I have a bone to pick with this place let's start with money…read more Upon entering into a lease with this facility, I have had nothing but trouble. First of all, the staff was friendly as heck but then it went downhill when all of my personal items went missing from my storage space. I tacked on the extra fee in insurance and look what happens... I learned that my items were missing, I immediately want to leave the space because, I don't trust it any longer. Although I had more days left on my leasing agreement to remove my things, my code to access my belongings by the garage entrance was locked. I was with a brother who had cerebral palsy and wheelchair bound, they locked us out sooner then usual and I had expressed to the associate manager that I was moving out. The manager immediately deactivates my code and the next month I am still being charged a storage fee!
