Avoid this location at all costs. I started my lease in July 2025 at a promotional rate of $50/month. By April 2026 (less than a year later), my rate had tripled to $167.50/month with no proper notice or communication. First, in October 2025, they tried to increase my rate to $152. After weeks of back-and-forth, the property manager (Eric) agreed to $77/month. Less than 4 months later in January 2026, I received another notice increasing the rate back to $152. Eric told me he would "review my account" and "follow up shortly." He never did. I was charged $170 in March with no resolution. I called the facility and was bounced between Eric and a sales rep multiple times. When I asked to escalate to corporate, I was transferred to sales instead. I submitted multiple inquiries through their website, emailed the facility directly, and emailed their corporate office (contactus@usstorage.net) on March 26th requesting resolution by March 28th. It is now April 20th and I have not received a single response from anyone. I have been a reliable, on-time paying customer for 9 months. I am currently unemployed and cannot afford these predatory increases. The complete lack of communication and customer service is appalling. I am now disputing the charges and will be moving my belongings elsewhere. Do not trust the promotional rates - they will triple your cost within a year and ignore all attempts to resolve it. read more

Avoid! Really horrible experience, with evasive manager that wouldn't truthfully explain that *all* of the units in our area were broken into and it looks like the management replaced all the latches for the doors afterwards. Looks like over 20 units were hit including ours. Shady practices that made me distrustful as to what role management had in all of the break ins. Shameful. *UPDATE LATER SAME DAY, 24? HOURS AFTER BREAK INS*: Called Chicago Police, who sent two officers to meet me there who also noted the obvious break ins and repairs. Property manager still wouldn't acknowledge to us there were break ins, just that latches were damaged. She also wouldn't provide police with any details, although did give them the name of the regional manager but refused to provide any contact info for them. *UPDATE NEXT DAY, 48? HOURS AFTER BREAK INS*: Acting regional manager based in Dallas (not the person noted the day before) called me after I flooded their corporate offices with emails and calls, acknowledged there were at least 25 units broken into, and that he arranged for a local vendor to repair the latches overnight. He didn't understand why the property manager wouldn't acknowledge the thefts or repaired latches, claimed it was a training issue. He said they still haven't reviewed the video yet, but did not expect to catch the culprit based on that, but might be able to identify who did it via entry code logs. Basically, our valuables are gone ($20K+), fingers crossed insurance covers some of this, and we're obviously staying the hell away from this disaster of a storage company forever. read more

CANNOT OVERSTATE THIS - do not rent anything from US Storage Centers. What a headache this has been. We rented out 5 lockers on June 5. The business practices felt a little shady, let's say, so once I dug a little bit further under glowing reviews, I unearthed a lot of more negative and probably correct ones. Rate hikes, unsafe conditions, terrible communications. We had prepaid for 3 months (that's how they get you!) and within the first month, on June 28, cancelled all remaining services with them and emptied our lockers. We received email confirmation of refunds due ON OR BEFORE August 30, 60 days from cancellation. I called the office several/many times in the last few weeks of August asking after the refunds, which - spoiler alert - were never mailed. The corporate office said they couldn't help; the local office "messaged her supervisor" repeatedly but also never called me back and I never got a straight answer, or any answer. She claimed that since the guy who processed the refunds no longer worked there, she couldn't see the work he had done. It made no sense. BOTTOM LINE - I had to engage my credit card information to dispute these charges and actually get back the refunds due. They never responded to emails, never called me back, never sent the refunds and I'm guessing will respond to this (maybe?) with some sort of form "we're so sorry" type of thing. They're not sorry. Its bad business. Don't give them your money. Period. read more

When I was planning and then moved in, the staff was great. In less than 8 months I received a notice that my monthly rent was due for an increase, it was more than double!!!! The staff was no help so I moved out. Deceitful, horrible business. I would not recommend! read more

US Storage has extremely shady business practices. I cancelled my contract on my storage unit in January 2025. US Storage said refunds would be sent to us within 60 days. 60 days passed and no refund. I've spent the next 9 months contacting US Storage in Chicago and Corporate multiple times and have never received a response. I' ve also gone into the office and been told there is nothing they can do but leave a message with the district manager. They refuse to provide contact information for any management so there is no accountability. They are doing everything in the power to avoid paying what we're owed As you can see from other reviews this and other similar issues occur regularly. STAY AWAY from US Storage. read more

Avoid this business at all costs. They increase the rates 300% every month with no notice. If you call the location's number you get redirected to a call center. You can't actually speak to an individual that works at the location without going to the property. Even then they don't have the ability to actually do anything except log a comment on your account for someone else to review. They continuously promise to call back and do not. I've asked for a copy of my contract several times and still have not received a copy. Very unprofessionally run company. Avoid! read more

This facility is atrocious. My locker was one of 20+ lockers broken into on July 4. There were people living in lockers. The lobby smells like urine. The staff never, ever return calls or emails. No one - not the office staff, managers or district manager. The building is old and in disrepair. The climate control is sporadic. And the rates increase without fail 10% every 4-5 months. When we began our rental, this facility was owned by Chicago Northside Storage. It was well-managed and the lovely staff took pride in providing outstanding service and a clean, safe facility. It totally went in the tank when US Storage Centers bought it. I would never recommend this facility, and I am so glad to be rid of it and the staff. read more

I have stored in multiple units at the 1516 N Orleans property long before US Storage Centers purchased the property from a competitor. In-fact I stored at the facility for 29 years through many changes in owners and management. Only upon US Storage Centers buying the facility did the facility really change negatively. A significant lapse in communication from the owners and management when they installed the new elevator which took 9 months to complete compared to the 3 months customers were told. Prices have continued to increase every few months while they reduce the customer service level, reduce storage amenities, and no longer clean the facility. I regularly would ask to speak to senior management and also completed surveys asking to be contacted to which I never heard from anyone. Seems like no one cared about the customers. I knew it was time to find a new storage facility when the manager Andrew strongly suggested I move out during one of my complaints about the elevator replacement taking longer than was quoted. Upon moving out I realized just how poorly the facility was being maintained with flaking paint on the ceiling and walls. This is an old building, and I have no confidence some of this flaking paint isn't lead based. Do yourself a favor and shop around before you use US Storage Facility, they need to do better. read more

As others have said, this facility is no longer a good or safe place. The facility is now open in the evenings and on Sundays, when there is no staff to insure the safety of customers or our possessions. Today, Sunday, there were at least 2 people in the facility, using the bathroom, talking on the phone and hanging out on the fourth floor in darkness, and none appeared to be engaged in storage center activities. How is US Storage monitoring the facility when there is no staff and insuring the safety of actual customers? read more

I stored wine here for 4 years. The price kept going up to the point where it was getting ridiculous for the size of the locker I was renting. Additionally, I complained twice about the cellar lights being out right where my locker was, which is uncomfortable as a woman alone in a dark basement. It's also not the nicest facility of others I've seen. I found a new place closer to my house at a better price. I moved out on a Saturday, which was the 6th of the month, which meant that the 1st-5th were workdays, and there was also a major holiday in that week. So the 6th was the soonest I could move. When I asked for a refund for the rest of the month, I was told that they are able to prorate move outs that occur between the 1st and the 5th of any month, unfortunately anything from the 6th of the month and beyond is the full month's rent due. Which I thought was punitive considering the holiday and that the 1st-5th was during the week. Happy to be out. read more

Corporate greed at its finest. Price increases every 6 months after you sign up. they should be disclosing this up front. There is no overhead light in these units so you will have to bring flashlights, yes, multiple to find your things. If you rent here, just make sure you move out within a year.
