It had been a long week of packing already and, frankly, I was not looking forward to following a moving crew to make sure nothing got lost or broken. Jerry assured us that they don't scratch or break stuff but my doubts were calmed when I saw how they carefully double-wrapped our furniture with heavy padding and shrink wrap. Not only were they careful, but they were fast, too. While Jerry organized the placement of our furniture in the truck, Diego was picking up boxes three-at-a-time and hauling them to the Moving van. They were equally fast and courteous in delivering to our new home and removing the packing and placing the furniture to the liking of my wife. Through the entire process, the moving crew was respectful of our needs, even when it meant more work for them. I could not think of a better outcome and would recommend Joey's Movers for anyone who is looking for a company that knows how it is supposed to be done. read more

They were extremely professional and friendly, and they packed up my entire apartment so fast, while also talking to me, giving me advice, and they left my apartment without a mess. We've used Joey's Movers twice and each time had great experiences. The first time was 18 years ago - the move from Logan Square to our vintage condo (2nd floor - no elevator) in West Rogers Park. Our most recent time was three weeks ago when we moved from the condo to an elevator building in Arlington Heights. Communication at all phases of our experience was excellent. Joseph was our key contact and he was extremely helpful in person, via phone or email. He provided the original estimate and pertinent info at our initial walkthrough and was easily available for the follow up issues. A great connection! The moving day team was outstanding. Javier, Doug, Alfonso and Diego - the Fantastic Four! We were scheduled for five movers but one did not show up. The team faced terrible weather (rain was fierce most of the day), and a move out from the second floor - no elevator building. The team was professional, thorough and really great to work with - yes fun - even down a team member and lousy weather. Move was fast and then on to the 40 minute ride to Arlington Heights. Very disappointed on this company. I requested a second moving quote due that I had sold an item and didn't need it to be moved anymore, plus I just need a different quote without the big item. I also updated my new phone number. I suddenly received an email stating " We appreciate your question about moving services. At this time, we have chosen not to provide you with moving services due to suspicious moving service inquiries." Do not use joeys movers! I was given one quote and later charged double because the movers "couldn't" get my sofas into the house and ofcourse more time more money. Not only more money they ripped my sofas and punctured my wall. Made me sign a form that if there was damage to walls they are not responsible. After signing the form i turned to corner and hole was in the wall already. I asked how they did that they're response was you signed the form we are not responsible. We used Joey's movers to move our store, the yellow bird to our new location. Sadly, our new location was not ready and Joey's had to store our fixturing and merchandise. 0 STARS!!! I've only recently joined Yelp, but our experience was so bad with Joey's Movers when they moved us years ago that I feel the need to leave this review. We went back and forth with Patricia and Joseph regarding an excessive move time and damaged furniture for over five months with little to no results regarding our concerns. I have the emails to prove that days and sometimes weeks would go by with no response from Joey's Movers. We finally got to the point where we just gave up pursuing reimbursement/compensation. We were charged over $1,000 for a 7.5 hour move that should have taken half of that time. We were sent a crew that had already moved another household previously that day. They were clearly exhausted and horribly unprepared as they didn't even have water with them. My husband purchased a pack of water and pizza for the crew. In addition to their slow pace, the whole crew would take fairly long breaks every hour adding to our move time. We had several pieces of furniture damaged and items broken during our move. Boxes were not put into the correct rooms although our boxes were clearly labeled. Boxes were often stacked in a haphazardly fashion and boxes marked fragile were upside down or had heavier boxes stacked on top of them. They somehow also swapped our fairly new step-stool for their rickety, old, slightly broken step-stool. They initially sent someone out to fix our furniture and he did an absolutely horrible job (couch picture with unevenly spaced and visible staples as well as shiny resin (?) put onto a matte piece of furniture). The second company who was employed to fix our furniture did a much better job, however, there was some damage done by Joey's Movers upon returning the furniture. That's where things stalled and Patricia and Joseph stopped returning our emails and phone calls. We were never refunded for the excessive time our move took, we never received a replacement step-stool, nor had our furniture issues been completely resolved. The sad thing about all of this is we used this company because my husband's father taught one of the family members. Also Joseph, I've read your previous responses to reviews. Obviously my name is not Boogers R., so please don't respond that I probably have the wrong business. I couldn't be more pleased with Joey's Movers. I have long known of their reliability, professionalism and fair prices from close friends who have used their services in the past. I moved from West Rogers Park in Chicago to Munster, Indiana to escape the high taxation and the costs to taxpayers of living in a mismanaged Democrat blue state. Indiana is a pleasant relief! Thanks to the staff at Joey's, especially Carlos, that everything went well with my move. Items were properly wrapped to avoid damage. The staff was pleasant and so helpful. My first experience using Joey's was about 3-1/2 years ago when I moved my elderly aunt from an apartment to an assisted living facility. I had asked a few friends for referrals since I hadn't personally moved in 20+ years. Joey's came highly recommended. Joey came out to give me an estimate to pack and move my aunt. It was a reasonable quote. The team that came out was terrific. No issues and complete satisfaction. In June of this year I sold my home and downsized to an apartment. The move was from Buffalo Grove to Northbrook. I remember using Joey's and asked my friend if they were still the ones to use. I did my own packing. The team was on-time, young, energetic, professional, and careful. They helped place my furniture and had some good ideas as well! I would highly recommend Joey's for your move. PODS dropped the ball the day before I had to move out of my home due to closing. Joey's was able to save the day and quickly change an "only workers" job to bring a large truck and get everything into a local storage unit for us. They were SO EASY to accommodate the last minute change. I was mid panic attack and was so thankful for customer service person who helped me. Then came moving day, they arrived on time and with mask. Wrapped up everything up SO well. I purchased my own blankets on Amazon and got 20 or so for $100 bucks. I had them use that and also purchased some items from them. They were able to get everything moved out without damaging walls. I was blown away by how quickly super heavy items were carried out. I hired Joeys movers back in February. In short, I'm highly disappointed with their customer service department. My move was scheduled for 8am. I was notified the day before that the move "might" get moved back. The day of I hadn't heard anything so I assumed we were good to go. After waiting an hour with no team showing up, I called. They told me my move had been moved back to noon-no one bothered to call me to let me know. Noon came around-again, no team. Again I called, the move had been pushed back without notifying me. The rest of the day/evening consisted of their reps telling me that would get back to me and then me not hearing anything well after the time they said they'd call. Movers didn't show up until 8pm!!!!! Can you imagine expecting to move at 8am and not having a team until 12 hours later? Once the movers got there, I will say, they were great. Super efficient and very nice guys. This is the reason I gave them two stars. After the whole experience, I was too aggravated to call to follow up with joeys movers-so I just let it be. Weeks later I received a couple of emails from their customer service department asking how my move was. I ignored the first one, but after a second I decided to let them know what I thought. The email entailed what I have described here. The response was they were going to give me half of my moving fee back-awesome! Except it never came and I've been given the run around when I have tried contacting them since. The actual movers for this company are excellent and great at what they do. If you have an issue and need to talk to their customer service department? I obviously can't say the same. Can I just say.... WOW!!!! These guys are really some great movers! My husband & I looked at each other after we closed on our first house and said... Who's going to help us move? After some thought and crossing off a list of people we could ask, we again looked at each other and decided... we're not poor, we can afford to hire people to do the work for us and we're going find professionals. My friend Marty recommended Joey Movers to us. He used them a couple of times and had great success with them. Plus, I spent 9 years working just down the street from them so I knew they were not a fly-by-night company. With three professional movers, amazing efficiency, and strong arms, they moved us out of our old place and into our new place in about 5 hours. They protected our furniture, covered out televisions and even helped us rearrange some furniture that wasn't even on the the moving truck. They told us to sit back, relax, point out where things needed to go and they would do the rest. Talk about treatment! If my husband & I asked friends and family to help us move (January 5th), I think we would still be moving (January 9th), probably be less a few friends to send holiday cards to and maybe crying over a broken television or something. I wrote a review for this company from my move in November....they asked to have it removed "due to privacy issues". I did not violate the privacy policy. This company is inconsistent. The lackluster customer service was glazed over in my first move due to the very professional and quick service of the actual movers. Their phone etiquette is horrible. I chose to move with them a second time and again the phone etiquette was lackluster and customer service was sub-par. I requested the same movers, got different movers, was not informed of the change and then treated as if asking for communication was a special request. The person that helped me on the phone was rude and condescending. I was supposed to be given a refund for 1 hour and was again treated horribly by the general manager, who told me that I should contact my bank if there was an issue...well if you bank with Chase then you know they don't play games when it comes to their customers. If you have a decent experience with them, great, no issues, but if you have a bad experience with them....well, I suggest you read the reviews where they got 1 star...and notice how the people who had bad experiences all say the same thing... Let me begin this review by stating that I did not use Joey Movers and Trucking Inc. Rather, I witnessed an incident you may want to be aware of should you decide to patronize this business. Because I believe a business ought to be judged by the behavior of its employees. This afternoon (5:30pm) one of their trucks came through the alley behind my apartment building and stopped directly below my residence. The passenger in the vehicle got out and began to pi** along the backside of the building next to the dumpster. I don't have too much of a problem with this though I would question why he didn't just go into the Dominick's (right on the corner) and use the public restroom. What really yanked my chain was that while the passenger was relieving himself the driver proceeded to empty the trash out of the cab of the vehicle and dump it on the ground as opposed to walking around the front of the truck and putting it into the dumpster his coworker was using as a toilet. If this is how they behave when they believe no one is watching, can you imagine how they might treat your personal possessions you're trusting them to move from one location to another? Just a little food for thought when you're looking for a company with which to trust your personal belongings. read more

In one short phrase - this place blows big chunks. I got a referral from a co-worker for Joey Movers. Let's just break my down the worst moving experience I've ever had: 1. Arrived 2.5 hours late 2. Quoted me at $140... ended up paying that in addition to another $167 after they finished moving. They pretty much charged me for the hours they were SUPPOSED to be there. If you're not qualified or hold the mental capacity to propose a quote, how about NOT provided a quote to a customer. 3. Why do you need to bring a 18 wheel semi to move 1 girl? It's no wonder it took the movers over an hour to find a parking spot. I seriously don't have enough shit to fill up a 18 wheeler, nor does anyone else except maybe the Duggar family. 4. After being referred and getting a good quote I booked Joey's for my last move. The quote was the best I received, but I was really disappointed once I arrived at my new place and upon unpacking found scratches and other damage on just about all of my wood furniture. Even a huge scratch on the wood doorway entrance to my new place which I know is from my couch because of the scratch on one of its legs. So long deposit! To be fair I did live on a third floor apt. so I understand the two movers who were sent were going to be tired once getting to the new place (a first floor). However upon said arrival to new apt. they just dumped everything into the first room without even an attempt to put any boxes in their marked rooms. The movers arrived before I did (family was waiting at the new place) so I guess my fault for not giving better direction before they arrived. But silly me for writing Living Room or Kitchen on boxes was just to difficult to understand as to where they were suppose to go. After digging out of the giant pile in the front room I found about all of my furniture was damaged (some major and some minor). I totally understand moving is going to have its casualties, but what I find most unacceptable is that I moved over two months ago and never even received a call back from my messages of complaint left to the company. One last note (just to vent I guess) one of the movers actually had the nerve to ask for a tip! Which was not even deserved on his part since he was a real jerk the few times I suggested to him a piece of furniture was heavy and he should work with the other mover on it. Anything I said to him was responded with sharp a "I know what I am doing". So really you have moved my furniture before and know all about it huh? I read reviews where movers were fine for local moves, but sucked in long distance moves because they outsource to 3d parties to perform the job. Joey's gave me peace of mind because their own employees handled the full move. I found them to be professional, efficient, knowledgeable, polite, and careful with my furniture and possessions. Not one piece was damaged! When loading, Joey's Movers arrived on time and ready to work. Joey's later reliably delivered my furniture on the day and time as promised. They are reasonable in price and stayed within the estimated cost they gave me. I couldn't be happier. Let me first say I selected Joey Movers because they are a black owned business and that is exactly what I was looking for. Additionally, my sister had used Joey Movers for a move and had nothing but good things to say. Also, my sister went to school with Joey. Needless to say, the trouble started on day one of trying to book the move. Sam took the information and took my credit card information. However, when a follow up call was made to make sure everything was a go there was no record of a moving confirmation date for us. I should have followed my mind then bit, I said everyone is entitled to a mistake. Luckily, they were able to fit us in at the last minute. Fast forward to moving day, 2 men arrived with a truck and when they saw the amount of stuff to be moved they immediately stated it would take an additional 1 to 2 men, a much larger truck and the move would take 8-10 hours! We we talking about moving from a one bedroom apartment! I immediately called and spoke with Sam, thinking wow is this some kind of scam! I also said I selected Joey's because they were black owned and yes I am black. Sam said he would go the apartment and look for himself, needless to say Sam never called me back and never went to the apartment. So, I called Joey's again after my husband informed me that the deposit had been credited back to my credit card. I spoke with Patricia who claimed that there were so many complaints we had they decided not to do the job!! I was like, what? The move needs to happen today! I cannot tell you how disappointing this was! We had to scramble around like crazy to make the move happen by ourselves. My experience using this company for a local move was fine. However, I would not recommend them for a long distance move. They provided a very low price initially, then delayed confirming the price, then more than doubled the price. The fees are extremely high for a long distance (much higher than a commercial moving company). My biggest complaint is that the personnel managing this company do not take an interest in their jobs or the customer. They are bored and this leads to poor service and, sometimes, rudeness. After a craigslist "pick up" went askew and my buyer never showed up to pick up my furniture THE DAY of my move I called Joeys- desperate. I needed to be out of my apartment that afternoon and had a large desk, dresser, mattress and a box spring that needed to be hauled off to the Salvation army. I had them help me with my move in February and they did a pretty good job. Billy & Angel rocked it but when it came to my couches that took an hour just for two pieces which was a bit much. Yes I know they were heavy but it did take a lot of my time which I could have saved a little money if they didn't take such a long time getting up to my apartment. Plus they damaged a few items which I will be filing a claim soon. Especially my expensive leather couch which I specifically asked Patricia the person who took my call for the move that I needed the special wrapping we discussed which she did not communicate with the movers so all they used was those blue sheets to cover my items. Especially when glass was involved I didn't like the fack that they didn't wrap it with the seran wrap like i asked. But I did reccomend the movers again for my sisters move so I hope they do a better job since they dont have as many items. I did call during my move and told her that they forgot the wrapping i asked for and all she said was she was sorry. Well to be in customer service, I would think you would offer something else like hey I will take an hour off your move for the inconvenience but no that didn't cross her mind at all. I can't give enough praise to the movers. We moved on New Years Eve early in the morning. They showed up 20 minutes early and waited because we weren't expecting them until 8 am. We had a lot of stuff to move (boxes and bulky furniture) and they moved at super-speed. They had wardrobe boxes for us to use for free (we had to return them at the end of the move) and handled everything with care. When unloading, they moved all the things into appropriate rooms and even offered to assemble the bed (not difficult, I know). The entire move took 5 hours with 3 men and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The movers were super-nice. They took off the doors and put them back on for oversized furniture. There was no damage to furniture and I would definitely recommend them to everyone I know. read more

Joey's certainly has a professional hardworking crew that's for sure. Joey's sent me a team of mutants and it was a pleasure working with such a crew. All my stuff went through a difficult but safe move in only 2.5 hours when I didn't think that was humanly possible. This is also due to the fact that the service quoted me two guys originally and sent three instead to complete the move. Well having three guys there they charged me more and even though it only took 2.5 hours, they charged me for 3 full hours. Thus they were $40 over what they quoted. I just moved to North Center and had Joey's Movers help: Incredible. When I called for an appt, the receptionist was nothing but helpful and generous to give me a discount. After wards, I called a week later to add another location to pick up furniture between my old and new location. "No problem," she says, and for no extra charge. They were prompt, careful and hilarious. Within the first hour, they had brought them drinks and donuts. They were out of our old place within three hours and off to the second location within a 1/2 hour. We had a couch and some shelves to get and they completely blocked up the street. People were honking to try to get by but we were their first priority and they couldn't care less, since they are on OUR clock. It was the funniest thing I've seen in weeks: Stupid drivers thinking their horns and cussing at our movers. Dude, your cussing at men who can carry a piece of furniture on their back. Needless to say, the driver was pissed but drove away after trying to intimidate our movers. We get to our new place, and they are out within 2 hours. All together, we each threw down about $225, which is really good considering it could've been a lot more. I could not have asked for a better moving service. Ask for Cleon (or Clayton, one of the two). He is a gem. They will be getting a call back. read more
