I rely on UPS Stores, and FedEx, a lot--mainly for printing and dropping off packages--and this Lincoln Ave location has become my go‑to. The staff is always on top of things. They recently moved here from Southport, and the new space is brighter, easier to navigate, and just feels better run.Even with the relocation, I still choose this store over others because the service is consistently excellent. Be very cautious about the guaranteed delivery date and refund process. Package was delivered late, should be easy to get a refund right? Wrong. After calling multiple days trying to get ahold of the manager he said would he would process the return. After a week i call back to check in. Manager states he did it wrong and will redo. I call back a few days later and get says he forgot again but will do it right away and it will take them a few days to process the request and 10 business days for them to mail a physical check. 14 businesses days later and I finally receive the check for 25% less than I originally paid. Don is one of the least curious people I have ever encountered. I was returning an item and had a prepaid shipping label. I also brought my own tape. The box I bought was 26x26x26. I was charged $37. Yes Thirty-seven. One box = $37. Now, here's where it went even worse: I was told I was not allowed to put my item in the box and seal it in the store. I was told this amounts to "packing" and is forbidden in the store. Fact, there were no there customers in there when I was there. So I was forced to bring the item outside, suffer from heat and mental cruelty, insert it in the box then tape it up. I then brought the box back in. I have never been more humiliated, demoralized and bullied in my life. This place needs to be inspected by UPS corporate ASAP! Note: There are tons of bad service reviews here - Its not just me. Ah well the store manager is the biggest a-hole in town. That said, I think he thrives on that energy so I try to find little ways to annoy him when I go (not hard to do). This store has the worst customer service and attempts to oversell its services (their pack & ship) at ridiculous costs. After failing to sell me a $45 pack & ship option, I asked how much for the box, which was a laughable $12. I went across the street to FedEx and bought the same box for $2.20. The general manager has a major attitude problem and is a blockhead. It says a lot when you get better customer service at USPS. If you need to ship or just want to be treated decently, there FedEx across the street, UPS on Lincoln/Irving, or USPS on Irving at ALL much better options than this horrible place. read more

This is nice to have in the neighborhood; it's generally clean, well run, and most of the staff is very friendly and helpful. There's one notable exception to that, and if you happen to get him, undoubtedly there will be some flaw with how you've brought in your package or some other minor detail that will earn a scolding. This afternoon, I went to the UPS store at 3501 N.Southport,Chgo to mail a package. I was helped by a very courteous man named Dominic. I didn't have the package taped and he bought out tape to secure the box. The main thing is, when the price came up on the screen he asked if I had a certain membership? I did not but I asked if AARP would help me with getting the discount. He said "Sure, at first he took my word that I was a member, but I did find it and received a discount on my shipping. I don't think I was ever asked about applying AARP to reduce the cost of shipping. Needless to say, I was very happy and will do business with Dominic/UPS on Southport again. read more

This UPS has the nicest staff! We went for passport pictures and the whole process was so quick, but handled with such quality care! CJ made every step of the way enjoyable and really has an eye for photography. Our pictures turned out so well! We even considering going back and using him for our engagement photos! 5 out of 5 would recommend over the FedEx across the street. read more

**update: So I got that lovely little comment from the store owner below and in hindsight yeah I was pretty miffed Bob, sorry. The issue caused me to have to call and figure out what happened and take time to resend the box again. Unfortunately it's like going to a restaurant, and the food you ordered is either wrong or not cooked enough. The server is blamed not the restaurant. I am sorry that this store got the brunt of my annoyance. So for you, dear Bob, I re-rated the store a 3 and removed the "m-fer" comment because #loveisloveisloveislove** So I dropped a package off @ this store the Friday before Memorial Day. Wasn't that busy inside and I didn't even wait. I will admit my label was not the best, but it was good enough to still be used and shipped. I even asked them if it was still ok and apologized for my printer issue and the associates just said I was going to piss some people off over the holiday weekend (their words not mine). That being said, they understood where it needed to go and on I went with my day. Wednesday the following week the box was in my breezeway. How? I gave them a label that clearly stated that the box needed to go to FL. Someone (not at the store, as I have been corrected) ripped the box open so hard it ripped one piece of the cardboard flaps off. Then proceeded to "fix it" by stuffing it inside the box, use the OLD label that was completely concealed prior to shipment and re-tapped it. The label I provided that Friday wasn't even on the box. How the hell it was shipped with a really old tracking number is beyond me. read more

Don't bother coming here at the times they list as open. I'm standing outside with boxes because they post their open time at 8am... yeah, that's not accurate. Store is dark and locked up. Instead of being polite and apologetic about the situation, he was very rude and said unless we had our labels printed there's nothing I can do for you. I have seen a lot of negative comments about this UPS store, but I have never had a problem here. I've been going to this UPS for almost 5 years and it has been a great experience for shipping. I literally was in and out in less than 5 minutes last time! I prefer it to FedEx across the street. They are a small store, so I could see how social distancing isn't ideal for busy days, but every time I've been they have masks and guards and feet between the people there. Despite the pandemic, they've done a great job providing service to customers and keeping the place clean. I gave them a call to confirm their hours were correct (due to listings being inaccurate across the board with COVID) and they were very helpful on the phone - and indeed - they were correct. I would definitely recommend visiting this UPS. read more

Working with the UPS Store on Southport has been an absolute pleasure. Our school scouts were collecting Halloween candy to donate to our troops through Operation Gratitude. I reached out to this location to inquire about shipping, and the owner Bob graciously offered both free boxes and shipping. His commitment to both our neighborhood, and the men and women of our armed forces, is amazing. This UPS store is possibly the worst (I have no empirical data to back it up but I'm gonna go with the hunch here). I'm gonna go ahead and throw this out there. The staff has a (hate me job) problem. I came in with and unpacked item to have packed and shipped. The guy that was helping me asked me a bunch of questions were are none of his business. Examples: was it sold on Ebay and what did I charge the person for shipping. How many bombs did I ship this year (satire)? Then he basically talked me out of using them at all by saying "this is going to be very expensive so I'm not sure you want to send this UPS". I offered to pack it it and just use them for shipping, his response verbatim: "that's not how this works". So I'm not sure how it works then because I have used ups to ship prepacked boxes about 100x. This is not my first very negative experience with this store. The problem is THAT GUY. I tried to ship things a couple of other times with basically the same result. I dismissed the other times as maybe I had a bad day, maybe he had a bad day. I now know that everyday is a bad day when you go to this store. Do yourself a favor and go to USPS (yes I'm actually saying that) or the Fedex store half a block away. Poor customer service... Don - who appears to be the manager - was extraordinarily rude when I dropped off an Amazon return on 1/12/21. No, I did not have it taped up and, instead of explaining the policy of taping politely, he said he'd accommodate me this ONE time but never again. You know, we're adults and it costs nothing to be courteous, so I was very disappointed since I use this UPS location regularly, and this new tape policy must be new. And that's no problem, but delivering that message in a way that a manager SHOULD would go a long way. read more

I have never written a review on Yelp before, but my treatment at this store was so insane I was compelled to leave a review. UPS mistakenly delivered a Tumi backpack to my house wrong name/address/I didn't place an order with Tumi. I opened and quickly realized this was not my box. In an attempt to right a wrong, I dropped the package at my usual UPS drop point. There was a huge line, which I went around after saying excuse me I need to drop the package that it was an incorrect delivery. I only avoided the line because this package had nothing to do with me, my address, or any other information. The clerk named DAVID was rude and told me I was skipping... I left without incident and phoned back, waited on hold for a while to further explain the box I'd left. Same David yelled about skipping and hung up on me before I could get a full sentence out. I went back to the store to try to close out this issue and hopefully get the package back to the rightful owner. I communicated to the clerk that it was quite rude to hang up on me, but I'd like to finish telling him the situation. He proceeded to lose his mind! He said the delivery wasnt his fault (never suggested it was). He told me I was a horrible person, thinking I can skip lines and told me to get the F&@ck Out 3X! Im still shocked at this response. In what world is this acceptable. This isn't even my package. I called the manager later, as David was the only employee working. The manager was kind, but said David is a long time employee and he hasn't ever heard him swear, so my account must be inaccurate, or I said things to justify the rant. The manager stands by his employees... apparently regardless of complaint or outrageous behavior. While I take responsibility for skipping the line, I played no part in aggravating his temper. I think his disgusting reaction should illicit disciplinary action, or an apology. David's story is VERY convenient for him. He must place blame for the sake of his job. I just wish there was a recording of it all to prove he is telling his boss a false narrative that benefits him. I have no skin in the game-- It's not even my package! I did my part to try to be a good citizen. Bob should know there is a bad seed in his store. After many years of great service here, I'm going to have to give it a terrible rating. read more

Echoing the sentiment of some other reviews the store manager was antagonizing and unhelpful to the say the least. I was shipping golf clubs and had pre-paid & printed my labels. I took my clubs in a soft case, thought, "maybe I'll get a box just to be safe" and inquired how much for a box to throw my clubs into. "That will be $48." No, no, no... I already paid for shipping, just need a box. "That will be $21 for the box and $27 for a packaging fee" WHAT?! I paid $15 for a box and "handling fee" at the UPS Store on Lincoln last year and my dad paid $7 for the same service in a nearby state. "Do you want it or not sir? That's what it costs us." No, I don't want it. But let's say I did want to pay $21 for a piece of cardboard can I put the clubs into the box myself and not pay you $27 to watch you put them in for me? "Not in the store, you'd have to leave the store to do that." Obviously getting nowhere with these guys. Prices are exorbitant and staff is... not solutions oriented. read more

These guys must hate me. Truly hate me. I'm annoying, I'm never prepared, I'm usually in a rush, and more than likely I have my mean mug on from having to play "dodge the stroller" on Southport. And yet, these guys are always willing to be helpful and discreetly overlook the panties bursting out of the Victoria's Secret return I invariably have tucked under my arm. I have no idea if UPS prices are better or worse than any of the other carriers, but I don't care. As long as I can fax papers (ok those prices are pretty high, but I'll pay the "convenience" fee), mail my letters to my Grandma, and ship back the bus load of impulse purchases I certainly don't need, I will continue to come here. And thanks to them for always taping up my packages because I refuse to buy packing tape. read more

Great bunch of guys who work here. If you want a little humility and down-to-earthness that stands out in the progressively more snooty Southport Corridor, you will find it here. My dad lives in Mexico and I periodically ship him things from here. It's a little dicey getting things delivered in Mexico, and the time we had a delivery problem, the boss here ate it and shipped my next item for free - - he offered; I didn't ask. They were even good natured when I brought my son in the day after we'd been there shipping something; but this time it was to pay for the pen my son took without telling anybody or paying for it! They thanked us and made my son feel great about coming back to fess up! Had to ship a laptop along with its power adapter. Had a label but no box or packing supplies. Walked in expecting to have to pack, tape, and fill the box, but they took care of everything for me. Paid for insurance, the box, handed everything over, and I was all set. Probably in and out in less than 3 minutes. I asked if I had to do anything and the nice gentleman who helped me replied, "That's what you pay for!" And it totally made sense. 15: The least number of minutes I've had to wait in line at my local US Post Office. 30: The average number of minutes I have to wait in line at my local US Post Office 35: The number of minutes it took me to cut my losses at my local US Post Office and leave before being served. 7: The average number of minutes it takes me to enter and complete a transaction at the Southport UPS Store. And that is even when I'm 3 or 4 people deep in the line. The service is always friendly and helpful, and refreshingly lacking the full frontal attitude, anger, apathy, and torpidity we get from all three of our local postal workers. They're efficient and offer me options when I'm not sure what the best method is to get my stuff where it needs to go. The addresses I send to most often are stored in their computer making things even more speedy. Does it cost a bit more? Yes. Is my time worth it? Absolutely. Is my chi happier for not having to deflect all the negativity of our three local postal workers when they deign to serve *anyone*? For sure. Do these things in and of themselves make using the Southport UPS Store worth it? Beyond a shadow of a doubt. read more

I have a soft spot for this place despite 1) my husband's constant admonitions that the FedEx/Kinko's right across the street offers cheaper shipping and 2) the class action lawsuit against UPS Store/Mailboxes Etc. for marking up postal services without informing their customers about it. So while I'm not thrilled about the prices, I'm charmed by the guys who work here. To a person, they're super-friendly, polite and helpful; there's never a line, so it's easy to get in and out. Plus whenever the Backstreet Boys come on the radio, everyone in the place stops what they're doing, throws their hands in the air, and sings lustily, "Backstreet's Back: All Right!" He then was very critical about packaging while never offering packaging services I was interested in. This store has become my favorite! The entire team, including the owner/manager Bob are incredibly helpful and always get the job done on time. As a manager of a small local business, we use their services weekly, always done on time and in a professional manner. I walked into this store after a very frustrating experience with the FedEx Kinkos down the street, and the guy behind the counter at this UPS store was very friendly, very helpful and very efficient. It was not what I expected based on my experience with other UPS stores, so I was pleasantly surprised. Apparently, UPS stores are all franchises with separate owners. If that's the case, this is the only UPS store I will patronize in the future. Street parking was easy (They have a 15 minute zone across the street that's convenient) and I got my package shipped off without a hassle. read more
