This is a review specifically about the new Staples "Bins" program. The idea is such that all items are 14 dollars starting Fridays and the price goes down 2 bucks a day until items are 2 dollars by Thursday. My wife and I were quite excited for the program and we have gone five different days now at different price points and we both agree that: 1- this was a great idea in theory. 2- this is not working at all. 3- you can't just upload Amazon trash on your customers and call it a deal. The VAST MAJORITY of the items are not worth spending a dollar on. These have to be items where it would be a loss for Amazon to restock it so they sell it in bulk to Staples and staples tries to make a couple bucks selling literal garbage to your already dwindling brick and mortar clientele. It's embarrassing for your company. I'm old school so I'll still pop in from time to time when I need pencils, but the bins are a complete failure. read more

Bought an HP printer five weeks ago. Stopped working brought it in to be evaluated at uBreakiFix (highly recommend them!) and was told it's unrepairable. Staples would not take it back and said I need to work through Hewlett-Packard. I only came to Staples and didn't order on Amazon because I try to support local businesses, bad move, don't support this one. They could've very easily exchanged it and dealt with Hewlett-Packard and kept a good customer. They have a two week policy for return even if it's damaged or broken or defective! Beware! So sorry I didn't use Amazon. Stick with Amazon customer service as far as superior. read more

This staples doesn't even deserve a one star. I felt so overwhelmed and humiliated by the working people there today. I was waiting 5 minutes to be acknowledged. Finally she came up and just gave me card and said self serve to printing something on my own. I computer literate and I am not good in doing myself. I wasted 20 minutes. I was in a hurry to go to an appointment. I asked several time for help. A guy approached me and partially helped me and told me to read the rest. I have a disability. They made me cry for help again because I couldn't do it myself. I already was getting super anxious. This was a horrible feeling. Finally a nice guy actually took his time to help me. He told me to send it through another email and he was going to print it out for me. He even gave me an extra copy. I almost went into panic mode. Thanks to him he helped me. As for the rest to the crew they were rude and made me feel so stupid. This place made me cry. All they had to do was just print sheet of paper for me, which the guy at the end did it for me. I've had okay experiences at this Staples. I placed an order online for custom prints and paid an additional fee for them to be ready before 11am the next day. When I went to go pick them up just after 11, the prints were not ready. No problem, I decided to go grab a coffee and come back. When I came back, she informed me that they would need more time, and it would be best if I came back in an hour. I went home and came back around 1pm. When I got there, they said they still needed to cut the prints. When they suggested I leave and come back, I kindly let them know I've already left without them twice and would really prefer to not do it again. By 1:30 I was able to leave with the prints. They turned out nice, but the lack of customer care was frustrating, especially when I was told I could expect them at a certain time, and didn't end up receiving them until over 2 hours later. read more

This is LONG overdue. Over the past few years I have enlisted the services of Staples on north Clark Street to make me, at different times, an outdoor yard sign for my home; an oversized laminated poster for my busness; a few hundred pamphlets, also business related; and perhaps other services I am forgetting. Bottom line: it doesn't matter who had seen to my needs--whether guy or gal, I was ALWAYS treated with the utmost kindness, professionalism, and expediency. I mostly use this staples store to drop off Amazon returns, and to purchase new SodaStream carbon dioxide canisters. It's convenient so I use it? But I sometimes wait for a long time before someone can scan in my Amazon return. They do give you a coupon for $5 off of a $25 purchase. That's pretty good to get a 25% discount on whatever you want. The store is big and they never seem to be too busy. Thus, I would expect an employee to be thrilled to be able to help someone, but that doesn't happen. This store is great if you know what you want and don't have many questions. Although it takes a little bit before this store can help you at the printing center, it is much easier for me to get to than the other Amazon locations. read more

Employees basically ignore customers here until they're approached. I came in to look for something and didn't really find what I wanted, but did see they had a headphone and to iPhone adapter that I've been meaning to get so I picked one up. The cashier didn't speak to me except ask if I had Staples Rewards, and ask if it was cash or card. She handed me my receipt, but not my item, so I reached across the counter to get it while she went back to whatever she was doing before. I am a customer at the Staples,Inc 4610 N.Clark St,Chicago,IL 60640 I needed a photo printed that was in my email. Mikey, who is a Print and Marketing associate did the job for me. At first he directed me to go to a printer and do it myself, but seeing that I was not able to do it myself, He took my phone,downloaded the picture and printed it on an 8X10 sheet of paper for me. Making the most of a tough situation the crew here maintain a level of professionalism and service in the face of a rapidly dimming flame that was once the retail sector. Managers, advisors, are tremendous, and a fateful conversation about the ridiculous nature of man crates being a perfect dad gift, made me wish "missed connections" was still a thing. The store is spacious, prices...unideal, but you can demo keyboards, sit in chairs, and even if you spin once or twice, they'll pretend they didn't notice. If you can't make money with these folks you shouldn't be in the money making business. read more

This Staples location is fast, easy in & out professional. I was greeted at the door and escorted directly to the correct aisle for postage scales. It doesn't have a lot of employees running around, but when i need something the people working there are always around to help. It is hard to expect of office store to have 20 people working with customers when there us not very busy, so I really don't understand previous reviewers how they can complain about the service. The manager at this location scooped me up right away and helped me with EVERYTHING. I was looking to create a small portfolio of my selected works and she definitely hooked me up. She talked me in to going a more creative and colorful route (the job is in education) and I actually got complimented on the bright look of my portfolio by the interviewer. I have been using them for years, but the last few years I've experienced a dismaying decline in the quality of the printing services. I distribute a specialized calendar for friends and family each year. This year the quality was so inferior that the clerk didn't even charge me (knowing how poor the product was that I had been given). This, after my third trip to the facility, after rejecting their first two "attempts" to reproduce my calendar. Twelve pages (yes, a calendar), eleven of which were black and white, one in color. My originals were very distinct, but black on my originals came back but a warm grey from Staples. Clarity was particularly poor across the board. I will never understand how a company with such advanced equipment can deliver me a product that I can better execute on my $60 home printer. They have lost my business! As I told my friends: if you can't join them, beat them! It's shameful after over 20 years, I am in a position to quit Staples. They need to take a good look at the weaknesses of what is a primary part of their business. read more

This is my neighborhood staples and the staff there are really helpful. Aris is the best staff member I've interacted with at any staples location - I was returning an item and the customer in front of me was being incredibly rude to Aris, who was working the returns and was simply doing his job. Aris maintained grace and equanimity during the unpleasant encounter, and then continued to be incredibly congenial to the rest of the customers in line. read more

If I had make a Top Five Chicago Businesses list, the Print Center would be included, without a doubt. Wide range of available services, competent and professional staff, rapid turnaround time, reasonable prices. They've helped me with with business cards, laminations, corporate banners, and even test printings for a book. In all these cases the staff patiently helped me achieve the result I needed. I have a small printing shop in my house. I have a lack of materials and I have a new customer. So I dropped by here and bought everything I needed. I like this place since I bought some of my materials here. And I got a discount if I bought a bundle. Their inventory was messy already. There are some products that are in the section. I grab a cart and start to choose my needs. I purchased 2 boxes of bond paper. It does not fit in my counter so I ask some staff to put it near the counter so I will pay for it later after I purchase everything I need. I also purchased ink for my printer. I spend hours choosing materials. After that I went to the counter to pay. After I paid for it , I asked some staff to put it in my car. After he put it on I gave him a tip. It's New Year's Eve and I needed an office chair. Like today. Not only was the woman who helped me responsive and knowledgeable, they agreed to assemble the chair before they close tonight. A few hours later I got a call that it was done. The guy who assembled it was helpful and quick. All of them went above and beyond, and on New Year's Eve nonetheless! Very poor customer service they are not welling to help at all especially that short hair blonde lady. I got helped by customers and not from staff also the other colored printer was jammed and no one paid attention to even fix the problem and it's their responsibility to do so! I am a teacher in a preschool and I need school and art materials to make a visual for my students. I don't have a printer so I need to buy one. I came here yesterday since I have no class. I went straight to the printer station and bought one. There are a lot of brands and I bought Brother Printer. Then I went to other sections to buy coupon bonds, colored bonds, tape, scissors, coloring art and many more. The bad thing here is there are a lot of spaces and empty spaces on their inventory. They should fill it. Some products I needed were already empty. I don't know if it sold out or they didn't fill it. I spent an hour here and went to the counter. read more

I hate to do this but..... This place is seriously poorly managed. I used them to fix my broken cell phone screen. Sure they come to you but after a menial check and the all good, I get my phone back and it doesn't work. The screen is not responding the way it should. So I take it in, and the manager says "oh yeah I've heard of this happening before". Let me get it I think it was Square IQ on the phone. 10 minutes later the manager comes out and says I think they're really busy right now. I say OK I'll leave my name and number and call me back when you know what the next steps should be. No call, nothing! Now I don't know about you, but if I were the manager of the store and I have a customer that didn't get what they paid for, I would make sure that before the end of my shift I at least reached out to this person and let them know that hey I didn't forget about you and I'm doing all I can to get this rectified. This is the third time I've had a problem with this store in one year. The first time I had a problem because they refused to help me print something; they just laughed and pointed to the printer. I called the store later and the management apologized and said they would improve their staff training. The second time their staff agreed to help, but read the contents of my files (medical files), laughed with some staff, and then joked about copying my private files (between themselves, not with me, but it was audible). This last time (and it will be my last time attempting to do productive business here) I tried printing out a document. They all came out with shrunken centered text, 2 inches by 2 inches, in the center of page. I didn't change any of the default settings. They changed me $7. This was an important time-sensitive job, as I only had 3 minutes to get out the door and 7 minutes to deliver it. When I brought the problem to the attention of their staff, they assumed that the document wasn't formatted correctly, despite the fact I had just printed it out (black and white) at the office (but I needed color documents and I was out of color cartridges; I would have picked them up while I was printing, but I no longer want to give Staples any of my business). So, instead of apologizing and checking the machine the staff wanted to print it out themselves, taking up more of my time. I tried to mention the issue to management, and he seemed understanding and even tried to hand me some coupons (I'm never using a Staples again, so I turned them down), but my problem was with the fact their first instinct wasn't to check the printer or to respect their customers schedules, it was to blame the customer and argue with them. As a result, an event was canceled simply because we couldn't get the prototype fliers in the right hands at the time. This resulted in a loss for an improvement project in the neighborhood (related to a local community college and a Human Rights organization). So the lack of Staples efficiency is actually harming the neighborhoods they do business in. They also refused to refund the print job, instead offering me in-store-use only coupons. In fact, their only real concern was convincing me to spend more money paying for more print jobs. As a result of this I am buying all of ink cartridges online and resolving to handle all of my friends, family, co-workers and neighbors printing needs for free just to stick it to Staples. read more

Yeah it's Staples. It's fine. But I will tell you this. Some associates are great. Others are not. I went in to get a new computer. One man took tons of time explaining things up me, helping me choose, selling all the add-ons ( you need to buy Excel, etc). Anyway, I went back a few days later to pick it up. The man helping me took personal calls as he made sure my computer was ready. Ignored me to play jokes on other associates. And when I asked him if I made a good decision buying this computer, he shrugged. RETURNED IT. They lost $1000+ sale because the closer didn't close. His horrible service made me uneasy. Went to Staples today to buy copy paper. They had a sale with a $5 rebate. I asked the girl at the register how the rebate works and she said just go online and put the number in and I get a visa card with $5 on it. I get home and put in every single number on the receipt and no number works. I call their store and I'm hung up on. I call back and I'm hung up on then I call again and I'm hung up on. Before I get in my car to drive over and really make a scene I get someone on the phone. I complain about being hung up on and he says "I just got here". The employee tells me to put in a number that doesn't work. Finally transfers me to technical support who also tells me a number that doesn't work. Finally tells me to put in a number a the bottom of the receipt by the bar code that does finally work. To get a $5 rebate I had to call 4 times and not even get the correct information. When I complained to the tech support guy he said "well we've been busy?" Really? Horrible service and not worth the hassle. I know companies count on people not doing the rebates but this is ridiculous. read more

If you need to go to a staples, do NOT go to this one! Last November, I bought a Kindle at a Staples in Michigan. I bought a warranty for it after the salesgirl said if there were any problems with it, the warranty would assure a quick and complete exchange. After having a lot of problems with it, I brought it in after they FINALLY had them in stock. I went in and had to wait five minutes for the manager to even come to help me. After I explained the situation, he told me to call the number on my receipt. I explained again how I was assured a Staples would honor my warranty and let me do an exchange, he told me to sort it out on my own! I was SO mad, so I went away and called the number. The lady on the phone said there wasn't anything SHE could to either. Finally, 20 minutes later, I got a different manager to sort it out for me - the first one was no where to be seen. They were so disrespectful, considering I'm a paying customer. When I told him the Kindle just started acting up, I hadn't even dropped it, he just looked at the Kindle, looked at me and said "Well it LOOKS like it's been dropped..." Aside from the short walking distance, this store would get a better rating for their print center. Overall I've had a good experience with them when getting a variety of documents printed and bounded. They are all relatively friendly and very helpful. As for the retail portion, the help tends to be sporadic. One day I'll have 3-4 employees ask if I need help. The next month's visit may result in no help being found. Recently, I needed to purchase a new office chair and after about 30 minutes of trying out various chairs, I was ready to buy and asked a guy to bring the chair up to the checkout area for me. He was friendly and quickly got the chair upfront for me. On my way to checkout, the guy stopped me and handed me a printout stating that he "marked down the price for me to $89.99 and said that he'd hook me up with 3 year warranty at $50.00" Damn... a $60 discount but a $50 warranty for a chair??? Skeptical I quickly checked prices online and found that the chair had actually been marked down to $89.99 on Staples.com. C'mon man!!! Don't pretend to get me a discount and then try to tack on a $50 3-year warranty. read more

I've started abusing my Rewards number more than I care to admit and become a Staples regular. The copy and print center does a good job when you need something made. Order it up online and pick it up at the store. Easy peasy. It can be a bit pricier that way, but you can have your stuff in your hands within a short time, rather than wait for days. Coming from a print industry background, I was impressed with the quality of the finished product. Ahh, digital technology. If Tatyana is working at the counter, you're in luck because you'll get super friendly service. Almost everyone here, actually, is friendly and helpful. There are a few Staples brand things I've purchased from here that I haven't been satisfied with, but that's not this store's fault. Just use caution when considering something that requires a Staples.com template. Ack, never again. The location is easy to get to by car (it has a decent, well-lit parking lot) or CTA. Good thing, because multiple trips wouldn't be pleasant unless I could get there and home fairly easily. Bonus for lack of headache production. Watch for me on my return trip. I'll be easy to spot: look for the small fire created by my overuse of my Rewards card. read more

This staples is a prime example of why this business has had to close so many stores. We waited in line for close to 20 minutes just to enlarge a picture. Apparently, they only have one person in the entire store who is trained to do this, and she is unable to properly handle a line of customers. An elderly woman in front of us was trying to make a decision on which of several cards she wanted. The cashier printed two disks worth of copies, and rather than handling the next person in line as this woman decided, she just stood there. After 20 minutes, we left. It would be faster to hand draw whatever you need copied than to go to this place. read more

There is a reason Staples has bad reviews. They are a bad company. Ordered a printer. When I went to pick up, staff tried to upsell me to buy extra warranty. I said I wanted to try the printer first. Sales told me not to worry and that I had 30 days to return. Printer was too slow for my needs. Brought it back under the 30 days only to find out that he gave me bad info- 14 days for 'technology'. They take no responsibility for their bad employee training and will screw their customers instead. This company should go out of business. They are terrible and have no integrity at all. read more
