This is probably one of the handful of things in Eugene that doesn't completely suck. The food is actually really good. Whenever I was there I would have a chicken burger and onion rings. The fries and onion rings were extremely delicious and crispy. Also, if you are looking for a place to have a few drinks and play a few games this is the place. Upstairs you will find two pool tables, a few small tv's, and plenty of pinball and bar games (if I remember correctly - big buck hunter, golf, and bowling). There are a lot of bars in Eugene. My roommate and I choose to go to this one more often than not. Whether that says something about the Jackalope, or about us, remains to be seen. I've actually never eaten food at the Jackalope, although after reading some of the reviews here, I should probably give it a try. Mostly I come here for the excellent (rotating) selection of beers on tap and the laid-back, quintessentially Eugene vibe - a little dirty, a little hippie, but never pretentious. Too big to be cozy, but not big enough that you can get lost in it. Pool tables upstairs, jukebox, even a cigarette machine (seriously, wtf! who has those??). Only a single bar, but the place really isn't THAT big, and the beer selection is pretty decent, as is the hard liquor. And... yes... did I mention it's cheap? Maybe I'm too used to LA prices, but four drinks plus tip cost me barely twenty bucks. The Stoli and cranberry was even in a pint glass, not a little cocktail glass. It's lunch time and two hours to kill before my train's supposed to arrive and whisk me away to Portland. As if there's any doubt what I'm going to do in those two hours. To the Jackalope! It's been my thing, my personal little tradition, to spend my two hours wait at the Jackalope knocking back one deliciously strong drink after another and enjoying half of a bacon blue cheese burger, saving the other half for when I wake up hungry on the train. This bar had it all: bartenders who got creative with their drinks, making them stiff yet delicious; bartenders who liked to get to know you, make you feel at home and make you laugh; lots of pool tables, darts, lots of seating to enjoy their delicious food. Seriously, Country (the cook) makes a mean burger. Because my favorite bartender switched out of the Jackalope to work at McShanes (both owned by the same person) myself and a few other regulars had switched watering holes. However, the Jackalope is one bar where you will guaranteed have a fun time whether alone or with friends. Depending on when you go, it can get pretty loud what with karaoke night or the end of finals week. Maybe it's the age range, but something about the clientele just isn't ideal to me as a woman in her late 20s. I wish I had had a better experience at the Lope. I went for my first time recently after hearing great things. In fact, after using yelp to find the most delicious bloody mary in town, we specifically went to jackalope for it. And unofrtunately, it was gross. Three out of five people didn't finish their drinks, and we are NOT people to waste alcohol. It was so salty that our faces twisted into scrunchy weirdness. I think the whole thing could have been avoided if the bar tender had asked us if we wanted a salted rim or not, because the abundance of salt was too much. Because we went specifically for the bloody mary, that is why there are three stars here. I did enjoy the bacon with my biscuits and gravy, that was cooked great. BEST. FRIES. EVER! Jackalope food rules and the kitchen's open til shortly before the bar closes. I'm a huge fan of their burgers. They have a number of nicely designed burger offerings on the menu and cheerfully write down substitutions like "pepper jack instead of cheddar." Real Cheese. Yeah! And the FRIES! OMG! THE FRIES! LOL... Curly fries. "Regular" fries (better than you've ever had). Deep fried Tator Tots. The Onions Rings are also tempting, for a couple bucks extra. Decisions, decisions! You'll just have to come back to try them all. The Smoked Prime Rib dinner on Saturday nights is always served at perfect temperature and comes with a mountain of home-style smashed potatoes and perfectly grilled vegetables. This place isn't too bad...located right next to the train station. We stopped by here Saturday night to play some pool and join the Halloween crowd. The drinks were good, we didn't eat (even though we were starving) and we had a good time. Service was quick and kind, never had to wait one time to get a drink. Pool tables are in good shape, felts are good, sticks are pretty straight for the most part, only a few crooked cues. They have video poker as well, I think only 2 machines from what I seen. There wasn't too many younger folks hanging around here. I was a little surprised that they didn't have much for specials on a night like Halloween...I mean hell, it wouldn't have hurt to knock a buck off wells and taps... The downstairs section is pretty tight quartered...upstairs is a bit more open, but with a crowd of people the upstairs gets a little crowded too. One thing I did like about being upstairs was that they have windows that open and allow fresh air in. That was a plus!! I was pretty warm so it was nice having the cool breeze blowing through. Great bar, the kind that belongs right by train tracks and rain puddles in Eugene, Ore. Well, it looks like the owners put it in the right place. The owners have managed to trap a bunch of elusive beasts and mount their heads on the walls, where they belong. In addition to the stuffed varmints, the lounge has pool, solid bar food, stiff drinks and, usually, a place to sit and BS with your pals. I look back at my Oregon years, and this is one of the quintessential Eugene swill taverns, along with the likes of Max's, The Cooler and The Horsehead. Its off the beaten path by the train station but that thankfully keeps out a lot of that college riff raff and keeps a nice trickle in and out all night. So happy to have the opportunity to visit the Jackalope again. It doesn't seem to matter what I order, it is always delicious! Today I went with the special "Hell Boy" sandwich as a wrap. Spicy and flavorful without being TOO spicy. And the tots are always perfectly cooked. Again, all staff and patrons I interacted with were friendly and helpful. Delicious blue cheese bacon burger on brioche, fries decent (frozen, not fresh, a tad too salty), friendly and service oriented chef/cook, attentive and courteous bartender, solid draft beer selection - lil sumpin sumpin plus Agrarian Saison - tasty, Blazers on the tele, pretty prices etc. On the sour side: the overwhelming scent in the joint was piss and urinal cake, old beer saturated floor - a nasty nose for anyone accustomed to fresh air; gross halos for my nose rings. I write this in the hope that someone makes the executive decision to tidy up, because that burger was yummy and shouldn't have to compete with that repellant miasma emanating from the potty. Went here around lunch time for some drinks and relax. TV's everywhere so sports games are easy to view. My girlfriend is very picky about her old fashioned so when she said this is really good I knew this was a good spot. Pool tables upstairs & food smelled good but we had eaten previously. Purely in it for the drinks . Clean bathroom and good lighting up stairs with the more dive bar lighting down stairs. Crowd was friendly with not tooooo many undesirable patrons. Interesting bar with actually pretty good food options. Came during prime rib day for a party and was actually surprised by it being pretty good for bar food. Nice medium rare served with horseradish and au jus. Good beer selection which included a variety of oregon brews and a few domestics. Lots of activities in the bar to choose from including pool, darts, arcade games, as well as sports tv. So if you are looking for a bar with a pretty laid back feel with quality food and drinks I would say give this place a try and you may find a new hangout. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go. Good food, pool tables, great location. There is one exception: the service seems to have a pretty terrible attitude. The latest example: I clearly asked for a "Blue Cheese Burger" and was given blue cheese fries by an already impatient bartender (the one with blonde hair). After I sent them back she came outside, rudely stated that it was my fault, and demanded $5 from me.. I was somewhat put off by her attitude and don't enjoy complaining about my favorite bar in town... So they get only 4 stars. This is my favorite bar in Eugene, especially for Duck games. They have a daily selected beer for $10 pitchers. Great atmosphere, mostly mature crowd, you don't get a lot of the young college kids coming in here. Great for playing pool and darts with your friends.
