    NY & Hawaiian slices
    Pat P.

Went here for dinner a couple nights ago. Awesome casual pizza spot with reasonable prices and good NY style pizza. Order and pick up at counter. Note that because it's by-the-slice, they make a bunch of cheese pizzas then add toppings to order and reheat the slice. The base pizza itself is quite excellent, extremely thin & crispy, but I found the toppings were a distraction. They were generous with the toppings which is a plus if you really need something on your pizza, but you can tell that they are just sitting on top instead of being baked in. This isn't necessarily a con, as it allows you to have more freedom/choices with toppings, I just didn't like how the flavors blended with this technique. I will definitely be coming back for some plain cheese slices! They often have meal deals (right now it's a free soda with any 2 slices), which you may as well take advantage of.

I am still coming for the real New York pizza in California! I am a true New Yorker lost in California, born and raised in Manhattan NYC. I've been searching since I moved here, and I stumbled on iSlice by accident. I had parked out front to run an errand, but the smell of pizza stopped me in my tracks. I went in--and completely forgot what I came to do. The atmosphere feels like stepping into a true New York City pizzeria, complete with fun NYC-style decorations and friendly energy. There's even outdoor seating, and inside it's bright, clean, and welcoming. The pizza is everything you hope for: golden, crisp edges with the thin dough in the center that perfectly holds the exact cheese and sauce ratio. The sauce tastes like it's made from fresh Italian purée sweet in a natural way, not sugary, like ripe tomatoes straight from a garden. Every bite has the right balance of cheese and sauce, the kind of combination that makes you close your eyes and smile. The staff is warm and makes you feel at home. Their daily special is unbeatable: two huge slices and a can of soda for $10. The slices are so big you could easily share with a friend (if you really wanted to!) not me New Yorkers don't share!!!! Even the bathroom was spotless--bright, clean, and spacious. Parking is generous and right in front, which is a big plus. I see many more iSlice pizza runs in my future. If you miss true New York pizza, this is the spot. Once you try it, you'll be hooked!

Got my pizza and it was all burnt really disappointed. Waited almost 40 min and had to cook instead waisted money and time.

    Supreme Calzone

I went here on a Friday night, it wasn't busy so it was perfect timing and decided to try out their calzones from the menu. I ordered the supreme calzone and it was a big portion I can tell you that. Especially dipping in the marinara sauce, it was delicious. I'd come back and try out their pizza slices. Street Parking is free, and tables are displayed outside for sitting.

Solid family-owned, NY-style pizza joint. If that doesn't draw you in, the scent of fresh-baked pizza honestly will. Every time we walk by their shop on Solano, my bf and I always look at each other and debate heavily if eating pizza midday is worth the afternoon crash. Well, one day, it finally was................. For COVID safety purposes, staff/patrons must wear masks, and hand sanitizer is provided. Their store is small, cramped even-- the way their tables and storage are oriented feel extremely claustrophobic. I'd recommend taking to-go. MUSHROOM PIZZA: Excellent thin crust and cheese-topping ratio. Minimal sauce, but the toppings speak for themselves. VEGGIE PIZZA: Ditto. Super fresh! CANNOLI: Lowkey...... Disappointing.............. Both the shell and ricotta are way too dense, and the filling tastes stale. And doesn't meet at the center (literally empty in the middle). Not great. Very reasonable prices, and the family running the shop is always so sweet.

Pretty good pizza. We went for a walk at point Isabelle and took my 8 year old and his friend. We wanted some pizza but I didn't want to take them inside anywhere. So we stopped at Islice. The boys both got a slice, chips and a soda. I got the meat combo slice and my husband got the Brooklyn and the New York. The cheese is local and the pizza is thin and crispy. Being able to pick up a slice and eat it outside on solan and people watch was nice. Reasonable prices and everyone left happy. Solid stream of people.

I bought a slice but didn't leave a tip. I took a couple bites and there was hair in the pizza. Not going back. Ick

Pretty solid New York style pizza in the Bay Area at a reasonable price. They even sell by the slice, for when you just need a quick bite.

We stopped in early on a Friday evening and were seated right away. The space has a great, casual vibe with plenty of indoor seating and some outdoor tables for nicer weather. Our server was friendly and checked in to see if we had any questions (we didn't), and we got drinks started right away--a local beer from Faction and a Black Basil cocktail. Both came out quickly and were solid. For food, I went with one of their signature pies--the All-Star deep dish. It's loaded with bacon, meatballs, sausage, pepperoni, and cheese... and it's massive. I always go for the 12" because it easily turns into 4-5 meals (no regrets there). My wife built her own gluten-free pizza with a thin crust and really enjoyed it. One thing I appreciated: even though deep dish takes longer to cook, both pizzas came out at the same time, which isn't always easy to do. They also offer a good variety of salads, starters, and sandwiches, which all sounded great--but I was here for the pizza. Overall, great service, excellent food, and a relaxed atmosphere. The meatball is sliced so the sandwich is on the thin side. Overall, the nice gooey cheese, grilled garlic roll and meatball created a pretty good sandwich. They have a good menu with pizzas, sandwiches and salads. I plan to drop in again but will try the pizza and see if it is as good as the sandwiches. Spinaci has just enough garlic that works perfectly with the mild spinach. The star of Julian is the near crunchy kale complemented by pops of sausage. Beware that parking may be hard to find as it's right off the street although there is a lot just down the road. The inside is very bare bones, which in this case is a good sign. The smell of the oven and dough just hits you once you step in and it's fantastic. Ordering was quick and easy and the slices are priced a bit high but for the quality of pizza we'd say it was worth it. We got some classic slices and also their fungi slice. From ordering to eating it took about 5-10 minutes despite a few people ahead of us so it was relatively quick. And now time to try it... man was it good. It's clearly a good representation of NY style. The crust is firm and crunchy but the pizza has a nice flop to it. The cheese is tasty with a good sauce under it too. The fungi also popped with flavor from the mushrooms, parsley, and olive oil; just a great series of slices. The best place to eat it is probably the bench seating they have outside but it may be full as a heads up. As far as we see it, GIOIA is a must stop in Berkeley. It came very highly recommended and was devoured in less than 5 minutes. We almost wish we didn't have plans to eat later that day because we could've eaten 2 more slices each then and there. This is as close to true NYC style pizza as you can get outside of NYC.

The staff were incredibly courteous, welcoming, and helpful throughout the visit. I actually arrived about 30 minutes earlier than my reservation time, and they were kind enough to seat us early, which was a really nice touch. One thing I really like about this place is that they update their dishes a few times a year, so every visit can feel a little different and exciting. The menu has great variety, especially when it comes to pizza styles as you can choose from New York, Sicilian, Detroit, and Grandma-style pizzas, and the pricing is very straightforward for all the sizes they serve. The pizza was perfectly cooked and tasted great. They also allow you to customize your pizza by adding or removing ingredients, which makes it very convenient for everyone to choose based on their liking. And they add toppings with open-heart. The pasta was also excellent. We ordered the Peperoncino pasta, and it tasted amazing. The garlic flavor and breadcrumbs were really the highlight and brought out the authentic character of the spaghetti. Another big plus is that they have plenty of vegetarian options, making it easy for different dietary preferences. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable for what they serve. Food arrived quickly, and the service from the servers and staff was great throughout the visit. The restaurant also has plenty of space and handles reservations well. The atmosphere is lively with lots of people around and students from the nearby university, which adds to the downtown Berkeley energy. It absolutely delivered. This is Neo-Neapolitan pizza done right: bright, fresh tomato sauce, creamy mozzarella, torn basil, and a beautifully balanced crust with a perfectly thin base, nicely charred underside, and those airy, leopard-spotted edges that make wood-fired pizza so satisfying. Simple, restrained, and incredibly well executed. It was an unusually warm evening, so I opted to sit outside. My only real complaint is that the tables closest to the street sit noticeably on a slant, making it a bit of a challenge to keep plates and glasses from slowly sliding downhill throughout the meal. A small detail, but worth noting. That said, the staff were genuinely lovely and welcoming, and the overall experience was exactly what I was hoping for. The takeout experience is mostly good, but a few things could be better. I'd like the option to remove onions from my takeout pizza. And: Lately the chopped salad has been presented in a plastic takeout box with the ingredients separated into other plastic containers. This leaves the customer to basically create the salad from the ingredients, then deal with a bunch of plastic waste. Better to go back to the old method: compostable box with the ingredients tossed by Benchmark, giving the customer the option to have Benchmark toss the dressing or do it themselves. When I order an expensive salad, I expect a salad, not a collection of separate ingredients for me to mix myself. And the plastic detracts from the experience and adds waste to the environment.
