I've had zachary's about half a dozen times now (maybe a dozen), and it's safe to say this is my favorite pizza spot in the entire bay area. The crust is perfectly charred with an airy, blistering rim, offering a loud, satisfying crunch. A surplus of a vibrant red, tangy tomato sauce that balances the savory, rich cheese. A savory, mouthwatering masterpiece that is impossible to resist. The aesthetic is one that is both abstract, yet elegant and homey. The service is attentive and consistent. Come to Zachary's if you need your life changed.

Zachary's is a true East Bay gem. I always take out-of-towners here, including those who have lived in Chicago and they always have great things to say about it. I always wind up parking a few blocks away but it's not too much trouble. They make everything to order and they do warn you that the deep dish pizzas will take time to bake. So don't come here expecting fast food. Service is always great, the server has always plated up our first slices for us. They do get busy, so be patient! This time, we got the chicken special and everything was super good! Nice and cheesy, you get a great cheese pull from this pizza. Will always return!

I came to this iconic location of Zachary's Chicago Pizza after visiting the original location on College Ave in Oakland. I didn't think I could eat Zachary's pizza two times in one day, so I waited a couple of days. This location at the top of Solano Ave is the second location to open, back in the 80's, so it's been here a long time. Like the Oakland location, parking is a bit of a pain in the area. Don't even think about parking at the grocery store across the street, they have a guy watching the parking lot and where you go. One trick with Zachary's, is if you're ordering deep dish pizza, call it in advance and then get in line. There's usually a wait for a table here as the inside is quite a bit smaller than the Oakland location. They take 45 min to prep and cook and you may not be the first person in line, so be patient, it's well worth it. The deep dish is the same at all the locations with that yummy flaky crust and fillings. Go for the stuffed option, where you get another thing crust layer on top and that is covered with sauce and cheese. The servers are very experienced with serving the first pieces to the guests. It's best to let them do the first piece and then the other pieces are easier to serve. We got the Zach Classic again, I love that combo. I'd like to try the half baked option sometime and then finish the cook at home whenever I wanna eat.

First time ordering half baked pizza. First time ever having Zachary's Chicago pizza. My manager would not stfu about this place. He was talking about it for weeks prior and today, this sweet sweet special day it came to fruition. It wasn't busy and seemed cozy inside. I ordered online and it was given to me as soon as I walked up. When I got home I followed the instructions given and bada bing. An awesome pie laid before me. A tear rolled down my cheek after the first bite, and a slow motion explosion with doves flying was behind me as I ate a slice. Yes, it did happen exactly like that.

Tried Zachary's for the first time and it was also my first time having deep dish, I'm a big fan! There were plenty of vegetarian options. We got the spinach and mushroom pie, and it was delicious with amazing cheese pulls. A small was more than enough for two, possibly three, so it's a great value. The arugula salad was a light, fresh starter. The pizza did take about 30 minutes to come out, but the cozy ambiance and attentive service more than made up for it. Our server checked in often and kept our waters topped off. The restaurant wasn't busy when we went, which made for a relaxed experience. I also really liked the unique wall art! Parking was a bit of a challenge on a Saturday afternoon, metered spots are limited nearby, but there's free residential parking a short distance away. Would definitely come back and recommend it to anyone curious about trying deep dish!

We come here every Saturday. It's great food, friendly service, and family-oriented. The overall quality and taste of the pizza and Caesar salad is excellent. The portions are also very satisfying. Review from my 9-year-old: I liked the consistency of the crust. It was a joy to bite into. Their Caesar salad was top notch and perfect seasoning. The service was extremely fast. The people there were very cautious about what was to our liking.

This little gem in Berkeley or Albany is great. It's it's on a strip of little boutiques that you can walk to while waiting for your pizza there. It's consignment shops and bedazzled shops and luxury rug, shops and all kinds of shops and the service was really good you can sit and our takeout and we decided to take out got home and we got the deep dish pizza. It was so good. Oh my gosh, perfect cheese Just good. The Ambiance you can go on a date there a first date will be great. There are somewhere to take the kids a solo day. I suggest you to check it out.

Zachary's Chicago Pizza, yum to the max! The Solano location has been home to many celebrations throughout life ~ birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, date nights, and family gatherings. One of my favorite things is grabbing a slice on-the-go, and Zachary's has an awesome lunch special available from 11a-3p that includes a slice of choice (usually cheese, pepp, veggie, or sausage) with a side Caesar salad and drink (iced tea or fountain) for $12.50! Slices at $6.50 a pop! Service is always quick, efficient, and friendly ~ as much as I enjoy getting deep dish with friends..our fam typically does the traditional thin-crust! Love the cornmeal crust, it's truly to me what sets Zach's apart from other local pizza spots. Hearty toppings, chunky tomatoes, amazing ranch. The way to my heart! The Zachary's Special (cheese, Italian sausage, mushroom, onion, green pepper) is a go-to and don't sleep on the Barbecue Chicken, so fire! Love the old school Zachary's merch sold and the pizza posters that adorn the brick walls of the restaurant. I think you can create-your-own artwork for the chance to be featured on the walls! Looks like the website has more info if there's an artist in ya!

Tired of the normal pan crust or thin crust pizza? Want something more filling? Try some Deep Dish Pizza at Zachary's! We've been coming here for years, and their pizzas have been consistently awesome. We usually get their Stuffed Spinach and Mushroom pizza to go. As soon as we got home, we went to town. By the time I realized I forgot to take a picture of the pizza, it was too late haha. Just know the pizza taste very fresh. It doesn't leave that heavy icky feel like other pizzas would. If you want to eat it there, they have plenty of tables and seating. I ordered online, walked up to the pickup area, gave them my name and she gave me my pizza. Quick and easy. There are haters that say it's not true Chicago Style Pizza. Well, we're in California and this is awesome Stuffed Deep Dish Pizza, no matter what style it is haha.

Ask the Community - Zachary's Chicago Pizza

Did the Solano Ave location close down temporarily or permanently? It seems to have vanished from the website listings, DoorDash, etc, and upon calling there's an impossible to hear voicemail message that is completely butchered by static.

They are temporarily closed because of a power outage from the storm. I can confirm the power was out last night, 3/21/23 at the top of Solano.

What are the ingredients in the gluten free crust?

How long does it take to bake "half-baked" pizzas?

It depends on what type of pizza you orderedreg or deep dish but you can call and they will give you the answer.

What are the meatballs made of?

Hello, our meatballs are made with a blend of pork and beef. Thanks!

Are gluten free pies made in the same oven as regular crust pies?

Yes, they are. They are cooked on a separate sheet, but in the same oven. While we try our absolute best, our kitchen is not gluten free, so we cannot guarantee 100% against cross contamination. Thank you!

Can I order a Vegan deep dish?

Yes! Our wheat crust is vegan and we offer vegan cheese. Make sure you specify you want your pizza made vegan and we will use our vegan margarine too.

Does your lunch special include a gluten free option? Thank you!

Yes they have gluten free and vegan options

Most recently I finally was able to give them a try. So glad we did! We came around lunch time and sat at a booth. There were other worker bees grabbing a quick lunch. The service was quick, efficient and friendly, and we ordered the French onion soup to start, and split the fried chicken sandwich and Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The sandwiches come with a side, so one plate we did fries with a house-made aioli and the other plate, their quinoa kale salad. Delicious. Such hearty portions! The bread is so fresh, the meat juicy and ample, and flavors just right. We also ordered beer on tap, shoutout to Oakland United, and tried their house-made hot sauce that they also sell by the bottle. Would love to come back to try brunch here too. I also saw a patron ordering the quinoa kale salad with fried chicken, and yes, that's the vibe! Pricing is fair for the quality and quantity, and street parking available (although the restaurant is located at the bottom of Solano where it tends to be a bit more busy). A true hidden gem right at the bottom of Solano Ave in Albany!…read more I'm embarrassed to admit that Picnic has been around for about 5 years in the east bay and I've just tried it for the first time this week. But I'm so glad I was finally introduced to it. The staff greet you promptly when you enter and you can even watch them work effortlessly together in the open prep-station behind the counter. They have a gorgeous display of deli items, wines, cheeses, cold sides, and even some cute candles & house made croutons. They've got everything you would need for an elevated picnic or even a barbecue with the family. They have an intriguing selection of house made sausages-- the Chicken Tikka Masala sausage caught my eye and I can't wait to try it. They also sell whole smoked quail that are seasoned heavily yet each bite has just the right amount of smokiness, spices, and salt. Their hot food items and sandwiches are perfect for a quick lunch during your break from work or on your way home. There are also a few counter seats if you want to enjoy your meal there. So far I've tried the smoked quail, the Muffaletta sandwich, and their green lentil soup with chicken + veg. The sandwich was filled to the brim and each bite was a flavor bomb. The lentil soup was very comforting & paired well with the smoked quail. I'm looking forward to trying everything they have to offer.

They were very happy with their arugula salads. I ordered the mac n cheese which was okay. Even though I grew up in El Cerrito, I sometimes feel like my NorCal green card has expired. I've lost touch with my small batch, organic self. (Although I have never liked arugula) This store is adorable and just the kind of independent neighborhood place that should be frequented and appreciated. Unfortunately I also had to use the bathroom and they don't have one for customers. So they recommended walking a block away to the BevMo. So I guess that added some negative feelings.

At the 22 min mark, the two groups of two behind me got their food before I did, so I went up to the worker behind the bar and asked if my order was ready and I was told mine would be next. All in all- took 32 mins. So again, if you have somewhere to be- order ahead! Food was good. Could definitely tell it was made fresh to order - not only because it took some time but because my friend cauliflower came out PIPING hot. Lots of oil drippings, so if that isn't your thing, may not be for you, but I will say that it was my fav bite. This was a good restaurant- I would say 4 stars for the food alone. BUT if you're in a pinch, either order online or maybe save this spot for when you have more time. Also- I know that good quality food is pricey, this place is no exception.
