I love a good New York bagel it's really hard to find legitimate bagels but not here! This is the second time I tried this place the first time I just got a bagel with cream cheese and it was wonderful but this time we ordered breakfast sandwiches which were awesome! Unfortunately I scarfed mine down so fast that I didn't get a chance to take a picture but we ordered a number one which is ham egg and Swiss and butter on a sesame bagel it's called the schmuck it was delicious. My husband ordered a number two which was egg bacon cheddar tomato and aïoli on a jalapeño bagel. Both bagels were just massive we were only able to eat half of them and finish them off the next day they were still delicious. Pro tip sign up for their birthday club they will send you an email for free bagels or a buy one get one free bagel sandwich and also send you one on your half birthday. Service was friendly and fast not a ton of ambience but it does have a couple tables to sit outside and enjoy your food. read more

My friends and I got the #31 zaftig, #18 schtick, #34 plumke. The #31 was good and very filling, probably able to split it with a friend. The #18 was delicious and I would definitely buy it again for a tuna sandwich fix. The #34 was "absolutely fire", the onions and pepper were a little sweet but the latke and cheese were salty. June 2018. Dana and I are in New York for the graduations of @angeline1112 and @xjoey74. We're in the mood for a bagel, so we stop at a completely nondescript location. This place wasn't a destination location or famous (it was just close to our hotel) so expectations weren't high. Having said that our bagels were unbelievably good. Outrageously good, in fact. How could this be? We asked the locals and they claimed that the key was the New York water. We had no other plausible explanation, so we accepted their attestations as truth. Despite all of our travels since then, we've never encountered another bagel to rival such greatness...until now. "Inglourious Bagels" takes honoring its heritage very seriously. So seriously in fact that their name is an homage to the brave Jewish American heroes of World War II who participated in "Operation Greenup." (For those of you seeking bonus points on this assignment, name the famous movie based upon this mission in the comments section below.) But what's in name, really? It should be about more than naming rights, don't you think? Well we had the benefit of meeting with one of the owners and to them their whole mission is about much more than just the name. Andrew Brewer explained to us that there really is something to this whole "New York water" thing and he and his partners set out to replicate the authenticity of a NY deli here in San Diego. So much so that they hired a chemist to assay the water in NY so that they could formulate a process to recreate it here. The water they use may be their opening salvo, but that is followed by the ongoing ordinances of initially baking their bagels on burlap covered cedar planks followed by completing the baking process over hot stones. These baking maneuvers necessitate the unilateral surrender of your taste buds. (Yeah, don't bother trying to convince me that these people aren't serious about their bagel "mission.") While not foundational to this bagel experience, we enjoyed the 80's Rock music they were playing during our visit, including the Beastie Boys (in my opinion @beastieboys are a musical genre unto themselves). I enjoyed the variety of offerings at Inglorious Bagels, but nothing else was outstanding to me. I got a muenster bagel with chive cream cheese, not toasted so I could really tell how fresh the bagel was along with its texture. I love muenster cheese and cheese bagels, but I've never had (or seen) a muenster bagel before. Muenster is a mild cheese so I'd prefer a cheddar or maybe asiago bagel, but I liked the unique offerings. If I were to return, I'd definitely want to try the fig schmear. Instead, I was feeling a more savory element so I tried the chive schmear. It was flavorful with an oniony herb taste, but I was disappointed in the quantity. I love it when bagels have cream cheese piled on to the point where I consider scraping some off, because then I know I've gotten my money's worth. This bagel not only wasn't drowning in schmear, but it was lacking in it. The bagel itself was also flatter than I expected. The bottom had a crust so crunchy I thought my bagel was accidentally toasted, which was off-putting. The muenster cheese was still soft rather than completely broiled on top, leaving the bagel oily and soggy. The oiliness isn't uncommon for a cheese bagel, but I was disappointed that the top of the bagel wasn't more solidified with a firm crust underneath and around the cheese. Inglorious Bagels isn't located very close to me, so it's not likely I'll return. If I were in the area, I would go again and try a bagel sandwich, which seemed to be popular amongst other customers while I was there. The shop has a small bar seating area inside and some patio tables and chairs outside. The shop is pet-friendly, as I saw multiple dogs come inside with their owners and then spend time outside as well. The staff was friendly and kind, and my order didn't take too long considering it was busy on a weekend morning. However, the quality of the one bagel I tried just didn't impress me enough to think more highly of the store. read more

Great bagels. Little pricey but worth it. The only downside is that they're not on Uber Eats and rarely answer the phone when you call to place an order for pickup. Very disappointed. Got there on a Wednesday at 11:45 they were out of many of the bagels. I ordered a Bialy and an Everything Bagel. The bagel dough was not quite right and the Bialy was dry. They charged me $1.50 each extra to scoop out and toast. I will not be going back. read more

The best bagels around! No one else makes bagels where both sides have the same amount of ingredients. If we are cutting them in half and sharing, one person usually has to take the top, with lots of good stuff and the other takes the bottom, lacking taste. There is no top and bottom here! I love this place!! Very hard to find turkey that isn't that slimy deli turkey full of nitrates. This is freshly roasted, sliced turkey breast and a generous portion. I could have eaten two of these. Great marketing, cute bagel shop. I appreciate the home-made cream cheeses and different unique flavor bagels & customization for sandwiches. Unfortunately their bagels we're just ok. I didn't feel they had a chew or texture of a delicious bagel. Maybe it's just personal preference but I do not care for their base bagel recipe. I look for crust & chew. I wonder if these bagels are boiled. Service was not memorable. Would recommend giving this place a try, different strokes for different folks. read more

10/10 bagel. Actually 11/10. The bagel was absolutely perfect. I got a #29, avocado, lox, red onions, garlic schmear, chives on an everything bagel. They make their bagels right! Latte was fine, raw espresso tasted good. (The coffee isnt the highlight here) Also all their sausage bagels have pork so beware if you're keeping it kosh or halal dont get those! Absolutely the best bagels shop I have tried in So Cal! Bagels are made fresh daily, and the service is excellent. They also have a great drink selection and are the only place I know that carry Dr. Browns soda. It has become a weekly venture for sure! Food was good and fast. Saw this place in AAA Westways Magazine which happened to be a short drive from the hotel we were staying at. I was expecting lines or for them to be out of certain bagels. Second time at IB. Ordered a Shlimazel sandwich, which included sausage and fried egg on a pumpernickel bagel. Had them hold the cheese. The bagel was the lightest pumpernickel I've ever seen, but made for a tasty rye bagel. The "fried egg" was what we used to call an omelette. I'm sure there was milk in it, which I try to avoid. Both the sausage and the egg were served at a luke-warm temperature. So much for made to order. My wife is in love with their egg salad sandwich, so I'm sure I'll find myself back here ordering something else. read more

As a former east-coaster, I've been searching for great bagels in San Diego for several years, ever since Top of the Bagel closed in Solana Beach. (They were good - not great.) I've tried them all (Nomad, Solomon, Golden State, Milton's, etc.) and have been disappointed. I've had to order bagels from New York or bring them back from San Francisco. I discovered Inglourious a couple of months ago and can say they are excellent - the best in San Diego. They are chewy and crusty with a generous amount of topping. They have a great selection, as well. As someone that has been raised on bagels from New York and Boston, these are in the same league. My only request is to find a replacement for corn meal as my wife is allergic to corn. (So she eats the tops and I get the bottoms.) The only problem I have is I'm unable to return home without eating a bagel on the way. read more
