My son and I stopped at Golden State Bagel in Carlsbad after a long weekend in San Diego, and it was a convenient find right near Costco and just off the freeway. The shop is small, located in a strip mall, but you can smell the fresh, house-made bagels as soon as you walk in, which is always a good sign. The menu is simple but has everything you'd want: fresh bagels, toppings, and hearty bagel sandwiches. They even feature a bagel of the week. I went with the cheese jalapeño bagel and ordered "The Notch" (lox, cream cheese, tomato, onion, and capers). I asked for mine open-faced, which was an extra $2.50 on top of the $18 price, but that's about what I usually pay at home, so it felt fair. The portion was generous with plenty of cream cheese, thick slices of tomato and onion, and a healthy serving of lox. The bagel itself was very fresh, though I was expecting a stronger jalapeño and cheese flavor--it leaned more bready than bold. The toppings definitely carried the flavor. Hopefully, that was just an off day for the bagel itself. One downside: some of the toppings are displayed openly in a case, and we did notice a couple of flies, which took away from the otherwise fresh, clean feel. The shop has a few small tables and a casual setup with a drink case and coffee bar. Staff was quick, efficient, and helpful, though not overly conversational. Overall, Golden State Bagel is a convenient stop for a fresh bagel sandwich, and while I wasn't blown away by the bagel itself, the toppings were excellent and the location is very handy.

Small, quick friendly service, great bagels and affordable! What else could you ask for? I had an egg and cheese everything bagel, it was done within 5mins and tasted amazing! Perfect quick breakfast option!

This small bagel shop offers a delightful variety of bagel options, each freshly baked and perfectly chewy. From classic favorites like sesame and everything to more unique choices, there's something for every taste. I really enjoyed my French toast bagel The atmosphere is cozy, with friendly service that makes the experience even better. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or enjoying a leisurely breakfast, it's a great spot to satisfy your bagel cravings.

Just came here on Monday since it's close to us. We really really liked it. We had an onion bagel and also a meat one. Our favorite was the blueberry bagel!! The blueberry cream cheese was the best thing I've ever had! It's was sweet but not to sweet and excellent pair with the blueberry bagel. Will definitely eat that again. Only reason why I don't give four stars there's not really a place to sit. Bummer. It's definitely more of a grab and go place.

My day job is delivery of propane to various restaurants and quick stops from Carlsbad to Delmar... I've been doing this for about a year and a half and over this time I've gone to many different places for breakfast sandwiches.... This place hands-down has the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had... And the people that worked there are perfect. Very nice.... A perfect place for a bagel or a breakfast sandwich bagel.

No veggies in the cream cheese.

I used to get bagels frequently but haven't been for a long time. I went a month ago and the bagel was dry and stale. There was no way it was baked that day. I decided to try it again thinking that was a one off. Well, again this bagel was so stale. I had to throw it away. Bagels should have a soft interior, not dry. Also, there were no veggies in the "veggie" cream cheese besides a few tiny orange specs.

Staff is so nice and patient. I ordered the pizza bagel on an everything bagel and it was super delicous!!!! I love that they have chocolate chip and super cinnamon. Those are usually my favorite. It's crazy to think even panera doesnt have a chocolate chip bagel and they're a big chain company. This Ma and Pa shop is truely amazing. It's located close to carlsbad shopping outlets so if you wanted to grab a quick bite, Garden State Bagel is your place. Also if you get the pizza bagel in the super early morning, there might be a slight wait for the oven to warm up, but trust it's totally worth the wait. If your ever in the area, I would highly recommend this bagel shop. Here's a recent menu just incase.

We put ourselves on their online waitlist but was sat immediately when we arrived. I really liked the vibes around this place. It feels like you're really at home. I browsed through the menu and decided to try the spinach and mushroom hash and added a side of bacon. I also order the iced caramel apple matcha. The drink came out first and was absolutely delicious! The caramel apple paired well with the matcha flavor. Our food took about 10 minutes even though for the restaurant being really crowded! I took a bite of the bacon and it was super crispy and warm. It was delicious! The bacon here is definitely a must try! I then had the homemade jam with my English muffin and that was delicious as well! Now for the hash... that was absolutely delicious! Paired with the crispy bacon, it was warm on a small skillet bowl and would definitely get it again if I come by around the area! Overall my meal was around $35 which included the hash, side of bacon and the drink which was a fair price for what came out. I had to ask two or three times for my water to be refilled, and the last time it never even got refilled. Overall, the service was mediocre and the food was really disappointing. It's such a fantastic, family-friendly location with a lively atmosphere and great local energy. The service was wonderfully attentive and made us feel right at home. For my main meal, I went with a veggie omelet and added hot links. I initially thought adding the hot links might be a bit too much, but it turned out to be the perfect combination! Next time, I'll just make a mental note to ask for no mushrooms, and the tomatoes were a bit heavy for my preference, but overall it was delicious. I also grabbed a side of bacon, which was cooked just right. Now for the highlight of the meal: the omelet usually comes with a side of toast, and I was torn between that and their famous coffee cake. I originally ordered the toast, but as soon as our server stepped away, I had a change of heart and asked to swap it for the coffee cake. I am so glad I did! It came out with an amazing warm crust, wonderful texture, and delicious frosting. If you aren't a big fan of heavy sweets, the frosting might be a little rich, but for a treat, it was incredible! Tips: When you pull up and park, keep in mind that the main entrance isn't right where you park--it's actually located on the other side near the street light corner. If you're debating between toast or the coffee cake, go for the coffee cake! You can always ask for the frosting on the side if you prefer it a bit less sweet. Atelier Manna was…read morecreated by Michelin-rated Chef Andrew Bachelier and his wife Larah as a creative workshop where food, art, wellness and community all come together. - Located in Leucadia, Atelier Manna is definitely not your typical brunch spot. It feels part restaurant, part art studio, part wellness experiment, and I mean that in the best way. The space is intimate and eclectic, with cookbooks, ceramics, artwork, salvaged materials and little pieces collected from the owners' travels throughout the space. You can tell there was a lot of thought put into making it feel personal rather than overly polished. Parking is do-able across the street by train , or on the street or surrounding neighborhoods. Best time to come when its not busy is W or TH morning! And then there's the food. We started with the Turkish eggs, soft poached eggs sitting over herbed yogurt, chili garlic butter and herbs with toast. The combination of the cool, tangy yogurt with the garlicky, slightly spicy butter was SO good. The toast is basically mandatory because you're going to want to swipe up every last bit of that sauce. P.S. dish comes with two eggs but you can order an extra egg if you have more people. The steak & tortilla was another standout. Snake River Farms zabuton steak with Spanish tortilla, black garlic romesco and Jimmy Nardello peppers. The steak was tender and cooked beautifully, but what really made the dish for me was the black garlic romesco. Rich, savory and slightly sweet, it tied everything together. And then came the torrija, Spanish-style French toast. This is not your basic brunch French toast. It's made with thick-cut sourdough, saffron vanilla, peach leaf oil, stone fruit and whipped labneh. The outside had that delicious caramelized/crispy texture while the inside was soft and custardy. The labneh was also such a good addition because it gave the dish a little tang to balance out the sweetness. Definitely a dish I'd order again. But we can't forget the drinks because Atelier Manna takes their non-alcoholic beverage program VERY seriously. Their "vitality tonics" are basically zero-proof cocktails with a wellness twist, and they are way more interesting than your standard juice or mocktail. I got the Mentawai: coconut, cold-infused green tea, lime leaf, pandan and astragalus, force carbonated. Light, refreshing and slightly tropical with enough acidity to keep it from tasting like straight coconut water. My friend got the Goldenrod, made with clarified cucumber, turmeric, honey and long pepper. Very refreshing and earthy with a little sweetness. Another friend went with the cold brew, which was smooth and fruity with a creamy body. I really appreciated that the drinks weren't just an afterthought. They actually felt like part of the experience. Overall, Atelier Manna is one of those places where you can tell the people behind it genuinely care about the details. The menu is creative without feeling like it's trying too hard, the space is unique and inviting, and the food manages to be indulgent while still incorporating a lot of fresh, thoughtful ingredients. Definitely a brunch spot worth the drive up to Leucadia, especially if you want something a little different from the usual eggs + mimosa situation.
