Prager Bros is one of these sneaky good bakeries that keeps it simple and nails it! We began by buying their sourdough breads which, if you're like me, is just an excuse to eat butter. Ok, PB sourdough stands on it's own AND gives me every excuse to eat some more butter! Toasts up nice no matter what you like from a soft to burnt scale. But the sourdough was the gateway drug for me. It's impossible to go into the Prager Bros bake shops and avoid seeing something even more additive. For me, the almond croissant just sings the perfect duet with a good cup of coffee. They rotate in some scones that are equally tempting. The honey walnut, limited offering, was my favorite until they stopped making it. The seasonal scone (date and coconut) is more than a fine substitution. They serve baguette sandwiches that are crispy crunchy and delicious. Highly recommend them.....the danger is you won't be able to drive by one. Heck, you get hooked enough, when you get in your car your Waze may prompt you with the time and distance to Prager Bros. Could be worse I suppose! You're welcome! read more

This little bakery is located in downtown Encinitas. Parking is rough along the main drag but is free and plentiful at the Coaster station lot nearby. Although I am more familiar with their location in Carlsbad, their baked goods appear to be of the same high quality here. We tried a chocolate croissant that was light, airy, and incredibly fresh and delicious. No seating inside or out but don't let that stop you from visiting this very good bakery. They don't have a huge selection but quality over quantity. read more

My friends recommended me this location of Prager Brothers, which was located in a cute downtown-like area. The bakery itself had a cozy and welcoming vibe, and everything in the display case on a Monday morning looked amazing. They also offered some coffee on the side, which was a nice treat in addition to their pastries. I tried their morning bun and it was great! The bun was perfectly flaky on the outside and soft on the inside, with a light sugar coating that wasn't too sweet. While there was no additional flavoring to the bun (like some citrus fruit, for example), I enjoyed the plain texture of the bun & appreciated the quality of the ingredients. Came and got a loaf and a few croissants. I originally wanted the Olive rosemary sourdough loaf, but they said they couldn't slice it because some people are allergic to olives so I went with the multi-grain sourdough so I could get it sliced. The bread was fresh and had a nice crust. The croissant was light and flakey and buttery and the inside fluffy and airy. Service was nice and quick, they also make soups and sandwiches which I didn't try. Its a small shop that puts out a good product. The bread is fresh and nicely done. Service is friendly and helpful. The products are the best. The sourdough rye with sunflower seeds is beautiful. I have made this bread at home and it is famously difficult. On my recent visit I also got a great almond croissant and a pain au raisin . I've had other breads and pastries and they are always top shelf. There is only bread, no coffee. Notes: there are two other locations in Carlsbad and Hillcrest. For this location walk North to the corner and there is a coffee shop kitty-corner. In Carlsbad it is next door. Both of my kiddos visited over the Thanksgiving holiday and my wife and I were blessed to spend quality time with them. One of them left Saturday and the other one wanted to eat breakfast Sunday morning. Wifey suggested a bakery, so we focused on finding a bakery in Encinitas since we wanted to take our kiddo to another establishment that has some of the best cookies in San Diego, which I'll talk about in another review. We decided on Prager Brothers Artisan Bread, which was a tasty bakery to start our day. There are several Prager Brothers locations throughout San Diego. We visited their Encinitas location, which was me and my kiddo's first visit, but the wifey had visited this location with some of her close friends. The bakery is located in the heart of a charming row of shops and restaurants, specifically on South Coast Highway 101 and in between D and E streets. If you're familiar with where the Encinitas arch sign is, then you're a few steps away from Prager Brothers. It is next to Encinitas Cafe, next to Bliss 101, and across the street from The 101 Diner. There is free parking on either side of the main throughfare. As you enter the shop, you are immediately greeted by a glass case of bread, baked goodies, and sandwiches. They are known for their bread, which you'll see their bread selection on their shelves. There is no seating inside, but there are uncovered table and chairs outside. Inside the shop, they sell bagged product and other baked items. The young man behind the counter was friendly and answered our questions. The display case of baked goods and sandwiches were filled to capacity and were very enticing. The breads on the shelves were hearty and inviting. As I perused their offering, I gravitated to their one and only jalapeño cheddar bagel and I also ordered a Bavarian pretzel. The young man asked if I wanted my bagel toasted and if I wanted cream cheese. I highly recommend that you toast your bagel and have the employees spread the cream cheese on the bagel. That jalapeño cheddar bagel was toasted just right, it was savory, and coupled with the cream cheese, my family and I enjoyed each satisfying bite. One of our close friends who regularly visits Prager Brothers told us that one of her favorite breads is their seeded baguettes. When we got home, we toasted the seeded baguette and she was spot on about that bread. It paired really well with cheese and salami. The Bavarian pretzel was not fresh and a little hard, but I enjoyed the taste. If you want mustard, you have to pay 50 cents and it seemed to be homemade, but it was just okay. We loved spending quality time with our kids during the holiday. Being able to spend more time with one of our kiddos enjoying some tasty baked goods from Prager Brothers made for a great start to our Sunday. read more

Was in the area and wanted to grab lunch to take to the beach. Small shop and pretty busy, but the staff was so friendly! Got a spicy italian sandwich and chocolate croissant. Sandwich was so good, the bread was delicious. We were able to share the sandwich among two people. The croissant was average, the chocolate was cold so it felt like a chocolate bar. Okay, I wanted to love this. I really did. I've tried some breads and pastries from other Prager Brother locations before, but this was my first time at the Encinitas store. I have to say I was seriously underwhelmed and disappointed. I got a pretzel, which looked beautiful and shiny, but was stale and extremely hard. For the price, I have to say I was expecting more. I don't know if it was because it was an old batch or left out too long, but I couldn't even finish it. I know that PB can definitely make good pastries and breads, so I was really disappointed. The store itself is very small, so I think it's more of a grab-and-go kind of establishment. Although there is sometimes a line, the service is fairly quick because everything is already made. Get the breads - amazing - would skip the pastries, they are good but nothing really special or unique. They have the best French loaf, truly!! My friend who lived in Paris said it was better than the bread she had there. I don't personally like sourdough in general but my friends love the sourdough here. One time I got the whole wheat bagels because that's all they had so close to closing and I was truly blown away by how good it was. I still think about those bagels from time to time! read more

This delicious artisan bread restaurant makes several varieties of bread, cookies, pastries, sandwiches and granola. I love the almond croissants which are made of thin layers of decadent pastry engulfing marzipan, topped with thin slices of almond, powdered sugar and perfectly browned. The flat breads that I order have never made it home intact, I have a hard time stopping myself from devouring the entire loaf immediately.
