Burgers are good- French fries taste like cardboard, shakes are just ok. I feel that they are overhyped.

Been here multiple times and had an okay experience with takeout. Considering the time of day the service was extremely slow. I got the double double protein style with fries and enjoyed it per-usual! Still my number one fast food restaurant! Overall, food was delicious but service was TOO SLOW!! I prepared two weeks in advance for my first In-N-Out Burger. I even took a day off of work. I had only an apple and a protein bar for breakfast, and I had planned a five hour hike through Provo Canyon to work up an appetite. I arrived at the restaurant at 3:30 to avoid the crowds. I was famished. It started off poorly. No Bacon Cheeseburgers? No bacon in the house at all? Really? OK... so I settled for a Cheeseburger Combo meal. Then, I decided to order a Double Double to top it off. I bit into the Cheeseburger. I enjoyed the flavor overall. I like buns like these that sort of melt in the burger as you eat it. I noticed how much I prefer shredded lettuce to the whole leaves that they serve. I had to ask for mustard. Still, a really good burger. But it would have been better with bacon. I gnawed into the Double Double.The sauce really is just like thousand island dressing. But it was still tasty. I got an extra packet of the stuff and spooged some on every bite. The toppings were fresh, but I had to special order my pickles. In the end, It all actually came together quite nicely. I'd even say the Double Double qualifies as a great burger. But it would have been better with bacon. I had a major problem with the fries. There is no contrast in texture. Great fries have a crunch to the exterior and a softness inside. These were the same soft blandness from start to finish. No character. And no fry sauce. They did have my beloved Minute Maid Lemonade at a self-serve fountain. That's always a plus. The whole idea and execution of their "secret menu" is really annoying. I'd like to know all my options before I order. My overall experience at In-N-Out can be summed up as follows:. I love In-N-Out Burger. I love their simple menu. Their french fries are the best! I also love to put the yellow chilis in my burger - sometimes I can do 6 in one burger... I know I'm crazy and I love spicy. Before my discovery of the chilis (you use to have to ask because they kept them behind the counter) I still loved my In-N-Out burger, but now I LOVE IT!!!! Having grown up in the Northwest, In-N-Out was something I was only able to enjoy while on vacation in California. Now that I've discovered it's only minutes away from my new apartment, I'm quite happy! The food is tasty, for fast food. You can't go in thinking it's going to be some amazing, gourmet burger for a few bucks. It's fast food, but it's some of the best tasting fast food out there, in my opinion! The ingredients are fresh, and as a result don't leave me with that "ugh, why did I just eat this" feeling. The prices are comparable, if not cheaper than other fast food chains, and the service at this locations was fast and friendly. Why is there so much hype? There's no In-n-Out on the east coast, so I was excited to finally try this place. Their burgers, while cheap, were mediocre at best. The beef patty was thin and small, the buns were like any other bun. Maybe it was the appeal of their "not-so-secret" menu? Their fries were fresh, but were greasy (I know fries are supposed to be greasy, but this one didn't taste like the right kind of grease). It was neat we could order a neapolitan milkshake with vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate together, but the basics of a burger joint just did not live up to the hype. I have no idea why people love In-N-Out. I don't even get why they like it better than other fast food chains, other than maybe the price. I'd rather go to Wendy's than In-N-Out, and that's saying something. Then you throw in places like Five Guys and it's really no contest. Anyway, I digress. The burgers are mediocre at best. The animal style fries were enjoyable for sure, and of course the service is friendly. But it's dang sure not fast, either. We went through the drive-through one time on the way to the airport and sat at the window for twenty minutes. I am not even exaggerating. And there wasn't even a line, that's what blew my mind. We were already running late but our passenger catching the plane needed a quick bite - hence the stop at In-N-Out. thought it would be zippy, but it was one of the slowest drive-thru experiences I've ever had anywhere. Nobody likes panicking about missing a flight while waiting a restaurant industry eternity to receive food from a place whose alleged dedication to speed is right there in their name. I'm borderline on giving In-N-Out two or three stars. I think Utahns are bigger fanatics about this place than Californians are - maybe because I'm from Northern California and we're less enthused about it. I appreciate that they attempt to have fresh products. The menu is simple (if you don't know about the secret menu - then it becomes a circus of options) and the prices decent. I love watching the guy designated as the "potato slicer" go crazy with the french fry cutter. That being said, In-N-Out is no where close to the best burger ever. If you think so, I think you're an idiot. Please experience more of the world. Go to Copper Onion in Salt Lake. Or if you want an excellent "fast food" burger, go to Shake Shack in New York. I can name many more options that are much better. Their fries suck. Once again, I love and appreciate that they cut them fresh and you can watch them from start to finish. But - they taste terrible. I feel like I'm being left out of a nationwide joke, where everyone is pretending In N Out is really good, and that it's not just a half step above McDonald's, and that it's not even in the same league as Five Guys or even Smash Burger. I tried to find out why people like it so much by eating there several times (maybe I'd just come on an off-day?) and trying everything on their limited menu (maybe I just ordered the wrong thing?) and even ordering off the "secret menu" (ironic to be known for something supposedly secret). But after it all, I'm still just confused. The burgers aren't bad, they just aren't anything special. The fries are fine, but still just mediocre. Great staff and food!

For the first time I was disappointed. The burger was bland, the fries were cold and hard, and I waited at least 10 minutes at the drive up window .. after paying... to get my food. In addition a message to corporate via their website went unanswered. Even the God's of Burgers can fail I guess. UPDATE: Corporate took a while, but they sent a letter of apology and vouchers for a new meal. The vouchers didn't quite replace what we had ordered, but close enough. I'm happy with the response at least. Let's hope they don't fall flat again. I'm sure it was an anomaly. read more

For years I've met west coasters who raved and raved about this place like it was the god of burger joints. When they heard they we're going to be building some location in Utah they were ecstatic. All I have to say is that they're putting something in the water on the West coast, either it's making the burgers better there or it's brainwashing the people who eat them. I've been curious what all the hype is about so I parked myself in line at the drive through to make an order. I say parked because if you've driven past these places they're packed and the driveup window is backed up all the way across the parking lot. 25 minutes later I was finally eating my burger, proving that the franchise's name is a misnomer. Although in their defense they were incredibly fast, the line was just so damn long. The burgers are definitely better than McD's, Burger King, and Wendy's (Carl's doesn't make burgers they make slop). But not as good as the small town independently run burger bars you come across in small towns on vacation or a road trip. And I still think Apollo Burger is my favorite of the local semi-franchised burger joints. Still for their size and reach In-N-Out is pretty good, just not worth the wait. There isn't really any selection, the menu is only about 4 basic hamburgers; and the price was very cheap. People talk about how much better the fries are since they're "not frozen" but I found them incredibly stale tasting. If you're curious like me and not in a hurry try them out and get it out of your system. And someday if their line ever dies down it would be a great alternative to a cheapo place like McDonalds. read more

Look, you either love In-N-Out burger or you haven't eaten there. The secret menu is not so secret anymore, but I'll give you a few tips. 1) Animal Style. It takes an "OK" burger and makes it intensely craveable. That mustard grilled into the patties and the extra spread / pickles...mmf. I personally like to spice it up a bit by adding chopped chiles, but that's a personal preference. 2) Fries. If there's one big weakness, it's the fries. They're kinda undercooked, usually, and deeply plain. So how do we fix that? First thing you do is order them "Well done", which makes them MUCH crispier and adds flavor. Then, assuming you aren't driving...you order the FRIES Animal Style. What happens then? They melt cheese all over the fries, add a bunch of spread, and drop some grilled onions in there too. It's an unholy mess and the cheese will turn into a brick about 30 seconds after the order hits your table, but as long as you have a fork, you'll do just fine. 3) Shakes. A lot of people know you can get a "Neopolitan" shake that combines strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla, but I'm actually a much bigger fan of a "Black and White", which gives you half chocolate, half vanilla. Order it large, you'll be happy. 4) Grilled Cheese. You can order it, and it's awesome. I like to have them add a whole slice of grilled onion while I'm at it. I would give it a five stars because it is in fact as good as it gets for fast food. One way to qualify as fast food is to have the a drive thru. The food quality is great, it is still independently owned. When I first ate at this specific In n Out a year ago I thought it tasted different from California but I think that is just my California exceptionalism talking. It is always clean, always a great snack at any random moment. Burgers and shakes are great and I avoid the fries. The menu is simple and the secret menu is easy to learn. I get why people like this better than other fast food joints, but I'll never understand those who think these burgers are the best around. They're above average but basic, fast food-quality hamburgers. Nothing more, nothing less. I'd much rather pay $10 at a restaurant for a higher-quality. But for fast food, sure, these work. However, would I drive all the way down to St. George to get some of these, like some of my old college buddies did before In N Out hit Orem? Never, even if you paid me. That's what I don't get. I've met and heard of people going far, far out of their way for one of these (Provo to St. George. Provo to Las Vegas). Why? If going out of your way means driving an extra five miles past a Wendy's, a BK, and two McD's, I get it. If going out of your way means anything more . . . meh. I love In-N-Out! While I've had a few unfavorable experiences at this location in the past, I've been very impressed by the management's subsequent and timely responses to my concerns. The fact they are actively listening to customers and immediately responding is great! During my last few visits I've been particularly impressed by the great customer service. For example, I recently went through the drive-thru with my 4-year-old daughter and I was about to ask the cashier for stickers for her when the cashier asked me if I'd like stickers for my daughter. Needless to say, this made my daughter VERY happy. With as many young kids as there are in Utah County I think it's very cool that they have it stickers. This particular location is often very busy but they do a great job of moving the lines quickly without compromising service and quality. Not many companies can do that! read more

Obviously people do not know the difference between fresh ingredients and processed crap if they think the In N Out burger tastes the same as Mcdonalds/wendys/ or any other fast food burger places here in Utah. In N Out is far superior, the vegetables are crisp, fresh, and flavorful. Potatoes are prepared and cut and fried in store. The beef tastes real and is absolutely delicious. The buns are made fresh and I have yet to find a comparable one. Not to mention the excellent customer service. At most places I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall, I'm glad to see that a company takes pride in the employees they hire. Beyond being cheap, fast and tasty In-N-Out Burger is incredibly consistent--their burgers and fries are always top-notch and I've never been disappointed by a meal here. I love the double double cheeseburger with ketchup, fries, and a chocolate milkshake. Strawberry shakes are also good. Fabulous. We hit up this In-N-Out after I ran the Utah Valley Marathon this past weekend. I don't eat much red meat these days, but since the opportunity to eat a double double only comes about 1-2 times a year for us, we took full advantage! In-N-Out Burger reminds me of Cane's Chicken in that they focus on one thing only. Where Cane's focuses on chicken tenders and fries, In-N-Out thrives on cooking burgers and fries. The burgers aren't huge, but they are prepared perfectly. Fries are wonderful and the whole meal is great! Superior service and associates seem to enjoy their time working. Ok we all know that In-N-Out is God's gift to man and this place nails it every time they have never got an order wrong and it's always cooked to perfection. A great place to stop for a brake and enjoy a good American burger. It's usually very crowded during late weekend hours. It's the go-to hang out for local youth specially teens-so if you want to feel awkward and irrelevant and love sociology, anthropology and evolution this is your place on weekends. FYI check your burgers when your number is called; Once my burger had a bite but the customer service was great and delivered a perfectly cooked replacement burger all the way to my table. read more

When I eat here I'm usually salivating at the greasy goodness I see presented to me. By the time I'm finished, though my hunger has been satisfied it didn't make up for the emptiness and regret. I like the flavor of the meat and cheese. What brings it down in my eyes are the fries don't taste like anything to me, and the bread isn't anything special (and I like special bread on my burgers). To sum it up In-N-Out is a cheap hamburger joint. I remember going here as a kid and loved it. I recently stopped in (mainly to please my husbands craving) I had forgot, if you don't eat beef, there isn't much for you. I got a cheese sandwich, which consisted of American cheese melted between two buns. It wasn't all that bad. I also got the fries which were good, not the best fries ever but tasty. If you are a vegetarian or don't eat beef like myself and find your self in an In-N-Out I recommend asking for some fries animal style and also a burger animal style minus the meat.
