Dookbaeki might just be my default local spot for soups. With a large seating space, we were seated immediately (came just after 8 on a Thursday evening with a party of 6) though they can get busy! The rice crisped up on the dolsot at the bottom and provided a nice texture. The kimchi banchan was delicious so was the fish cake banchan. I recently saw a few foodies post about this spot so I assume they're going to get pretty busy soon. I will try and get a group of friends next time so we can try more things. Fried chicken and fries were crispy and delicious. Salad and radish were nicely made. I had fried chicken with Yangnyeom sauce it was pretty good. Chicken was coated in a thin batter and the sauce was flavorful and yummy. I better go here instead of going to Chicko next time. Portion and the price were pretty reasonable. The gook bab was still a bit spicy for me even though I ordered less spicy but the flavor is absolutely amazing. The booth is meaty and savory. The Kimbab was a yummy as well. It's much lighter than the gook bab. And my favorite out of all, is the soup that they provide for FREE. Hands down the best free soup ever. Food is yummy, portion is generous, service is great. My favourite has to be the tuna kimbap! Always a classic and can never go wrong Cold noodles are also such a treat in the hot weather we're having in Vancouver right now. However, I have to admit that this cold noodle was not as good as I thought it would be . I have also had the tteokbokki and chicken. It sounded so good I had to order it despite ordering it before and not liking it . They give a large portion so it's a good food to share with a party of friends! This is probably personal preference but the tteokbokki was a bit too soft and overcooked for my taste. I also think I prefer to have fried chicken and dip it into the tteokbokki instead so overall this dish was not my favourite.

Tofu pockets (yubu chobap) are basically seasoned fried tofu skin with rice and other toppings. We tried each flavour they had and my fave was the bulgogi. I would probably go back to order the same or try their rice bowls or Korean toast. It seems that they rebranded and changed their menu. From looking at reviews, the previous restaurant there was called Kim's Table but the owner seems to be the same. My only comment was that I was expecting the sauce to have little pieces of pork in it, and I personally did not detect any, which translated to a bit of a superfluous sauce. Afterwards I checked the menu, and it does say that there is minced pork in the sauce, so I'm not sure... This was more than enough food for 2 people (we got leftovers to take home), and I think the perfect amount of food for 3. I appreciate good portion sizes. (It was my daughter's dish mainly but I wanted to try it, and she's fine with eating vegetarian foods even though she does still eat meat.) It was a really yummy Omurice and I think we may have just found a new favourite of ours on the North Shore! I ordered the same vegetarian Jab Chae Rice that I ordered last time and it was just as good as I remembered it. It really puzzles me though that this dish is listed under the Rice section. It does come with a bowl of white rice but it's a freakin huge platter of noodles and the noodles are really the main star of the dish...not the rice! Grandma ordered the Sam Sun Stir Fried Rice which is supposed to be a Seafood fried rice with vegetables and pork in black bean sauce, topped with a fried egg. I walked quite a bit from downtown Robson and arrived, but there were quite a few customers inside the store. The most popular online Tteokbokki is sweet and salty, with an addictive taste. Kimbab was quite voluminous and I could only eat half of it. The cold noodles were no soup and had a lot of vegetables in the them. There are many other things I want to try, so I definitely want to come back here.
