Strawberry matcha, Peanut Butter & Jelly, chocolate sprinkle, Browned butter, and Everything Bagel
Leslie S.

My friends recommended Hook and Press donuts to me and I'm so glad they did because they have delicious donuts! I did a to-go order. I ordered the browned butter, strawberry matcha, pb& j, chocolate sprinkle, and everything bagel. Every donut tasted fresh and high quality. The everything bagel was not a sweet donut which was unique and tasty. I loved all the other flavors and would get them again. The breakfast menu looked awesome so I would love to come back and have their breakfast. This isn't your normal mom and pop cheap donut shop. You can tell it's more gourmet and higher quality. The donuts are less greasy and more decadent. So good! We will definitely come back to Hook and Press Donuts!

Hook & Press is a popular spot on State Street due to their gourmet and artisanal donuts. After grabbing lunch, wifey and I knew we had to stop by and stuff our mouths with some goodness. They have a lot of unique flavors to choose from, but we ended up going with the Peach Cobbler Donut and it did not disappoint!

Hook and Press is a cute little breakfast/lunch spot in downtown SB. They have really fun donut flavors ranging from chocolate sprinkle which is what we got to one with rice crispy treats on top! Definitely the most unique donuts in the area. The space felt a little crowded, but the service was quick. I would love to go back and try their coffee drinks.

I love doughnuts and whoa! These doughnuts are definitely different from anything I've ever had. The texture is thicker and fluffier. I can taste the high quality ingredients in every bite. The only plain doughnuts available were the donut holes. Everything else was a specialty unique creation. With plenty of customers, they are well staffed and organized. I thought the wait would be long, but I was able to place my order in a timely matter. I took my order to go, but there was plenty of seating. I love the high ceilings and chandelier, such cute decor. They even had some merchandise for sale.

We stopped by this place to grab some donuts and drinks. Pictured with names are all the four donuts we got. My personal favorite was that chocolate berry old fashioned donut, super flavorful. All of the donuts overall were really good, and they keep coming out! I had the strawberry matcha iced latte and my husband had a cappuccino. They were both really really tasty. They had other breakfast items too, among other drinks. It's a nice place to grab something quickly or dine in indoor or outdoor! I definitely recommend giving it a try. We've been twice and both times were very consistent with getting things out quickly. Everyone's also super nice here!

Came here for their soft opening three years ago and am tremendously pleased to see it's just as tasty as then! That everything bagel donut? Chefs kiss. Perfect mix of sweet and savory. Also tried their basic glazed. Soft. Fluffy. Not overly sweet but still nice and sweet. These donuts are a tad more expensive than regular donuts as they are specialty donuts but once you bite into it you'll totally understand why. Will continue to come here for tasty donuts and will always recommend! Service was fast and there were a lot of seating options in which many people were working. Please note we walked here so I cannot comment on parking.

Most delicious donut that I have ever tried! Lots of options, even at 10am. Thankful that they carry regular glazed donut holes for my toddler. I got the rice crispy donut and have zero regrets. It's absolutely amazing. The donuts are more dense than flakey but they make up for it in the topping. This one has marshmallow fluff and rice crispy pieces. Service was quick at 10am on a weekday and there were plenty of places to sit. Parking next to building.

The donuts are okay. The flavours are unique and hit or miss... I really liked some but others were not that great.. I also tried the iced strawberry matcha latte, and it was okay. Nothing amazing. The prices are pretty pricey too for donuts. Each one was from $4.50-$5.50... the service is good. The inside was very spacious and cute. Nice place for studying. They have free wifi.

tl;dr the delicious upscale donuts are worth the premium price; the hardest part is settling on just a few flavors Santa Barbara may not have the same rabid donut obsession as Los Angeles, but that hasn't stopped Hook & Press Donuts from being a Central Coast favorite. This bakery-cafe is best known for its rotating lineup of sophisticated, made-from-scratch donut offerings. It has been rated the Best Donut Shop in Santa Barbara by the Santa Barbara Independent's Annual Readers' Poll since 2019, and it's included in Food Network's list of Best Restaurants in Santa Barbara. Hook & Press is located at the tip of an artsy alley just off State St. The off-white walls are decorated with abstract-minimalist murals. Industrial-chic accents include the wide-pane windows, polished concrete floors, and pockets of exposed brick. Load-supporting columns reach up to the soaring slate-toned ceilings. A carefully manicured rainbow of donuts is displayed to the right. To the left, upscale patio furniture separates the kitchen from the coffee bar. Beach-y contemporary tunes echo around the space. My partner and I visited late on a weekend morning, and nearly every table was occupied. The line stretched to the door, but the staff members efficiently whipped through orders. We opted to share two donuts: the Everything Bagel and the Passionfruit Orange Guava. The former masterfully resembled an upscale everything bagel in its savory-salty flavor; the light, buttery donut was an otherwise ambitious twist. The latter paired a tart, unmistakably passionfruit-y frosting with a custardy, pastelito-esque filling. Our bill totalled just under $10, but the flavors were spot-on, and portion sizes felt generous. I can see why Hook & Press is a local favorite, and I definitely would be game to work my way through their donut lineup in the future.

Cute cute spot! The donuts are soft and tasty. First donut we tried was the vanilla bean sprinkle and it did not taste plain at all. The ricotta scramble tartine was a standout with the fluffy scrambled eggs with ricotta topped with Parmesan and chili salt over toasted bread. Chef's kiss! Coffee is smooth, golden milk latte has great turmeric and ginger flavor. Service is friendly. Patio has umbrellas and an awning for shade and is dog friendly. We also bought a dog donut for our pup and she loved playing with it. She's a picky eater so I wouldn't take her opinion seriously.

Love the donuts at this place! They always taste so fresh and the flavors are unique and complimentary. Vegan Dubai Chocolate- 8/10 love the crunch and the fluffiness of the donut. Would love to taste a stronger pistachio flavor. Brown Butter - 10/10 my favorite flavor that I must get everytime I come The space is great - lots of seating and the staff is very friendly. Super dog friendly as they gave my dog some treats!!

The Scrambler + sausage patty

*Donuts? Pretty darn good, I can see why it's a popular spot *Cappuccino? Better than most places my husband has tried (he doesn't impress very much with most coffee shops) *Sandwich? Decent, the tanginess of the sauce throws you off but after a few bites it's quite tasty - we added the sausage patty *Matcha? I love matcha and I drink one almost every day but this is one of the worst ones I've ever had!! I could not even finish it I say skip it in my opinion

I've been to hook and press to be a lookie loo a few times but today I was committed to actually buying something! Lol. My friends know I don't have the biggest sweet tooth so when I've come in before I've just admired the donuts from afar and purchased drinks. However today I was wanting to reward myself for a weekend of fitness activities and a beautiful donut from hook and press seemed like the best way to do it. My friend and I came in at 1:30pm which was pretty good timing as there was no line for the donuts. The selection of donuts was still plentiful and we looked around. I ended up ordering a few strawberry matcha donuts and their key lim pie donut. Honestly it's always so hard to choose what to get because everything here looks amazing. I found that the prices seemed actually pretty reasonable for how unique and gourmet these donuts are, not a bad deal. I also appreciate that they have a clear menu behind the counter on pricing and drinks. When you order at the donut counter you do pickup your drinks across the room at a different counter which made sense so that everyone isn't crowding around the most busy counter. Smart. Shout out to the staff Katie for being an absolute gem. She was so patient and helpful as I picked out my donuts and drinks. I really appreciated that she was kind and didn't give me any pushback when I asked for my donuts individually boxed as I was giving out some as gifts. She was just lovely and provided A+ customer experience. Will lookout for her again next time I come for sure! Thanks Katie :) Overall I loved my drink and donuts, scoring below: 4/5 stars: Key Lime Pie Donut - visually stunning and surprisingly mild in flavor. The key like cream center was delicious and the outside frosting wasn't overdone. A good pick. 5/5 stars: Strawberry Matcha Donut - my favorite for sure! I'm a sucker for anything strawberry matcha and they don't disappoint here. Loved the custard matcha filling, heavenly and I'll definitely always get this one when they have it. 5/5 stars: Tropical Ombré Lemonade - yes yes yes! Always get this! As someone who doesn't love coffee I can always appreciate an effort made forwards a fun and unique drink. When I read ombré lemonade I knew I was sold and Katie assured me it would be pretty, and that it was! Can't go wrong with a lemonade tea combo and of course it was refreshing and tasty. A little sweet which I loved and just what I needed on this hot Santa Barbara day.

They add a 3% surcharge if you use a credit card. There is a window for to-go orders, but if you're dining in, you place your order with the gal at the podium. I have to say, although there were two staff working on drinks, my latte took a while. Luckily, it came before the food. There was a staff member waiting at the counter and delivering just drinks. Once I got my latte, it tasted good. Strong. I felt the caffeine. The avocado toast was good, too. It was served in a shallow metal dish. Thick, high quality, Artisan bread. I enjoyed the toasted pumpkin seeds. I would definitely order it again, but open to ordering something else on the menu next time. Staff are friendly, welcoming, and efficient. There was another gentleman standing in the back, immediately clearing tables. It's better if you come earlier on the weekends. There was a line of people when I was leaving. There's plenty of free street parking. I parked across the street.

Don't think you can sub salad for fries but no worries, as the breakfast potatoes were amazing. Many places offer breakfast potatoes but something seemingly simple is actually hard to make well. My friend's Bratwurst Sausage with Eggs, her favorite, was hearty and filling. A lot of indoor seating but we enjoyed our table outside, watching pedestrians on State St. and enjoying the beautiful scenery and architecture. We expected to wait to be seated but surprisingly it wasn't that busy. Order at counter and the food is brought to your table. As we waited, employee kindly gave us two free pastry samples, both delicious. All the baked goods I got to go I want again. Their scones are fabulous-slightly crunchy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. Their tea service which comes with champagne is pricey, I believe $75 per person. But interior is a perfect colorful and relaxed setting for tea. My tastebuds dream of coming back. Will be thrilled when I next indulge on their pastries and quiche.

There was only one person in line and 4 staff members behind the counter standing around talking to each other. Nobody greeted us or asked for our bakery order. When I said excuse me to a dirty blond girl she replied "WHAT!" and continued to joke with a co worker. When the cashier finished with their customer they walked away and even though they saw we were waiting to be helped. I looked around and saw nobody helping seated customers or us at the bakery counter. Finally, the dirty blonde ask what we need and my response was "WHAT" ?! At this point we should have left and gone to Lilac Patisserie however we proceeded to give her our order. I told another customer behind us that rudeness seems to be the norm, and she agreed. I paid for our bakery items and asked an older woman scrolling on her phone if we could have a bag for all of our boxed treats. She grabbed a handful of bags and threw them at me from across the counter. We were appalled and left. We found a place to sit on State street to eat our treats and my daughter said she didn't want her Meringue because the dirty blonde girl used the back of her ungloved hand to repeatedly wipe her nose. We threw all $50 worth of baked goods in the trash. Yes, I should have gone back and complained I'm had everything refunded but it was Mother's Day and we didn't want anything more to do with this establishment. It was also an epiphany that they don't treat everyone this way. It could be you next time. Please go somewhere else. We will never go to anywhere but Lilac Patisserie which is to the left as you exit Andersons, past the stop light. You will definitely get your money's worth and the staff is friendly, professional, and greet you immediately as you reach the counter.
