We stopped here on our first dinner in Santa Barbara for a "nice" dinner. The location is great, right on the beach, but also because it is right on the beach, parking can be a little bit of a challenge since you're competing with all the beach-goers. I was a bit disappointed when we got there as the vibe is more "beachy" than classy/upscale in my opinion, so that's good to know what to expect. I got the macadamia crusted halibut ($36.95), my wife got the boathouse seafood pasta ($44.95), and the kiddo got fish and chips ($11.95, no upcharge for substituting fruit for chips). The fish was good but rather plain- it certainly didn't look like it was crusted with macadamia nuts to me- just looked like a grilled halibut. Wife's seafood pasta was tasty. Overall, I felt expensive for what we got and also the fact that I was expecting a more upscale atmosphere.

Fabulous customer service from the start, who doesn't love a smiling, welcoming face first thing in the morning, especially at the beach? The view is spectacular, I do wish they would keep the windows closed or place screens on them, flies are a nuisance while eating. I ordered the iced latte, perfection. Also ordered the Santa Barbara omelet, filled with delicious fresh crisp vegetables, cheese and covered with a delicious non salty egg, big win! Home potatoes, also very good. My English muffin was toasted perfectly, butter and orange marmalade, so good. Hubby ordered the traditional breakfast which was great and an orange juice. Once again table service was very attentive and polite, rare to find these days. Much appreciated. Highly recommended. We hadn't been in years, so glad we returned while in town.

Went to the beach to watch the sunrise for a friend's birthday. We found this spot right by where we were and decided to give it a try. The outside patio had an amazing view. I got the breakfast burrito, and it was pretty good for what it was; I'd say it was worth the price. We had Juan as our server, and he made our experience really fun by constantly egging on our birthday boy to try the traditional birthday shot this restaurant offers (he gave in).

Pretty solid place - especially with a view of the ocean like it has. Ordered the SHRIMP CEVICHE to start, followed by the PAN SEARED SCALLOPS as my main. It's sad you only get four little scallops for nearly $45. At that point I could have taken four steps to the ocean and caught my own. But overall, flavors were good.

Anyone in the Santa Barbara area should stop here for a meal! The views are amazing, especially at sunset. Huge outside patio to enjoy the beach. Great staff on top of everything. The food is excellent! First stop on our honeymoon to grab dinner before getting to Cambria. We both got a cup of New England clam chowder, and shared a shrimp cocktail. The clam chowder was great, and the shrimp cocktail was very good. The cocktail sauce was one of the best I've had. She got the grilled salmon and I got the macadamia crusted halibut. The salmon was grilled perfectly, very juicy and flavorful with beautiful grill marks on the outside. It came with a white wine butter sauce that went so well with the whole dish. The veggies were delicious as well. My halibut was so good with a pineapple butter sauce on top, a cheesy potato pancake, and grilled veggies. Such a great dish! Next time we come by this way we'll plan another stop here!

Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service. The only problem is the parking. Especially on a weekend. They don't take reservations so could be a wait. I love going for a swim afterwards and then showering after on the back side of the restaurant

We came to Boathouse for a late lunch on Saturday (around 2p) thinking we missed the crowd, but it was pretty full. Ended up on a high top table on the back of the deck which was still fine as we had a decent view of the ocean. Servers did a very good job and lunch was pretty tasty overall. Can never go wrong with the clam chowder to start. I had shrimp tacos that were quite filling. My wife had a BLT which was average, however, the seasoned fries were tasty. Overall a good visit on a beautiful day here on the coast!

We didn't get our table for about two hours as they let another guest party of the same name in in our place but once we eventually got our food it was AMAZING. I never order salmon and this was the best I've tried

We stopped by on a whim to grab lunch with my parents. I was actually shocked at the low wait time! (Just 30 minutes on Memorial Day) The hostess (dark hair) was really friendly and helpful! It felt like a very warm welcome. We were seated in the beach front seating, and it was so beautiful. My parents loved sitting and watching the beach while the food was coming out. The food was amazing! We ordered an insane amount of food, but they were able to finish almost everything because of how tasty it was. They can't wait to come back~

A favorite spot when visiting Santa Barbara. My breakfast? Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, orange juice, and a Cappuccino. Delicious, as was the expansive view of the Pacific ...

The Boathouse at Hendry's Beach is a well established, immensely popular seafood place right above the beach offering standard dockside fare at competitive prices with excellent views. We came on Mother's Day, checking in with a wait time of 2 hours (they take no reservations). It ended up being about 90 minutes, not unreasonable for how busy they were. Staff was friendly and accommodating, nothing exceptional, and understandably busy. We got the fish and chips ($21) which were good, but not exceptional, with the fries well seasoned and the perfect mix of soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. We also got the lobster roll ($33) which was okay, although the lobster was more of a salad consistency than the large pieces I'm accustomed to for this sandwich. Our kids had reasonably priced kids meals of pasta and fish and chips ($11 each). As the photos suggest the location is beautiful, right on the beach, and carries a clean, breezy vibe. Waiting 90 minutes was not problematic at all given we could kick our feet up and rest in the sand. Prices, above, are actually quite reasonable for a restaurant as busy as this one is in a very expensive town in what could be a quite expensive location. Well priced with a beautiful location and fair food, the Boathouse is an easy, satisfying choice for whoever is near the coast and don't mind a wait. The best seat in town! You come here for one of the only restaurants on the beach in Santa Barbara but you stay for the hospitality and people you meet while you're here. Yes there can be a long wait for large parties when the weather is perfect. And it's almost always perfect. Yes you can put your name in for a table, grab a to-go drink from the bar, and get your feet sandy while you wait. You can get food to-go too which is perfect for a picnic on the beach. No dogs are allowed in the Boathouse but this is a dog friendly beach. There is a doggie tiki hut providing shade for but please quiet your barking one. We're all trying to enjoy ourselves. Yes sunsets are beautiful and set over the water in the winter and the cliffs throughout the summer. Oh and parking is free! But don't honk. We're all trying to make the loop and besides it's a dead giveaway you're from out of town. For the food it's all good and I've had pretty much everything on the menu. Tuna Melt Signature Breakfast House Cured Salmon Plate Shack Burger Clam Chowder Local Hope Ranch Mussels Seared Ahi Tuna Poke These are a few of my favorite things. The Boathouse is filled with good times, good friends, and good food. Come join me at the bar and find out for yourself.

This restaurant is beautiful and spacious. The service was great, friendly and attentive. We ordered Salmon Benedict and Crabcake Benedict. They were delicious. I also like the quality of the mimosa. My husbans ordered a latte and he loved it. Overall, it's a good place to relax and enjoy quality breakfast with an ocean view. We didn't have a problem finding a parking. Highly recommended.

Boathouse at Hendry's Beach Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Boathouse at Hendry's Beach

How do I access the off leash dog beach near Hendry's bosthouse?

It's right there. Just park in the lot and go left. It is not fenced off

    Do they take reservations?

No, just the list when you arrive

    Is this business dog-friendly?

Not in the resturant but there is a area in The front for dogs.

During what hours is breakfast served?

Can you accommodate a party of 10 for a walk in?

Yes, if you wait your turn, no reservations available

Is kids allowed in the happy hour section?

    They are!

Hi do you allow dog in your outdoor sitting area thanks?

They have a sign posted at the entrance that says no dogs allowed but I recently saw a table with a dog at the outmost dining area. It may be an even longer wait to get one of those tables. The sign clearly states No Pets with the exception of…

How crowded would it get on a Friday evening? Trying to sit outside too!

We went on a Wednesday around 3pm or 4pm it was only crowd in the happy hour section the majority of the restaurant had a few open tables because only a very small portion of the restaurant was for happy hour which we found to be strange. I'm sure…

Anyone recommend a time that is less busy, since they do not take reservations?

Go in the morning! They offer great brunch!

    Do they take cash?

I can't say for 100% but pretty sure that is a safe bet. It is a full service restaurant. And I think I have seen a register at the bar. They're open now to call and confirm if you need.

Is this place pet friendly for out door seating?

Yes outside perimeter seating allows pets

    Is there parking?

Yes, there's a decent sized parking lot that is also shared with the public beach so it is often full. Just keep your fingers crossed that you get lucky with a spot.

Do they offer gift cards, if so how do you get one?

yes! I purchased 3 for my close friends over the holidays ( they also have cute sweaters and t-shirts for all sizes and shapes).…

Are you taking reservations for Easter?

The Boathouse strictly never accepts reservations (unfortunately) any day of the year.

Can I bring my dog with me on the patio?

Yes, there was a dog or two present when I visited.

    Do you take reservations?

Unfortunately, they do not take reservations. Tables are a first-come, first-serve basis where you put your name down and they give you a buzzes to hang on to. The wait can be long depending on the day so hang out on the beach while you wait.

    Do you take reservations?

The Boathouse does not accept reservations.

Are you taking reservations for 2?

Unfortunately they do not take any reservations.

What time does breakfast end on Saturday?

They serve brunch til 1 pm

What time is Breakfast served until?

The last time I was there (about 2 weeks ago), breakfast was served until 1pm.

We shared the avocado toast with egg and bacon added, plus a side of potatoes. The avocado smash was good and the egg was cooked perfectly, but the bread was a little dense for me. Nuzz really enjoyed the bacon. The POTATOES though!! So good. Thinly sliced, thicker than a potato chip, perfectly salted and super crispy. The side portion was generous too. Our total was about $53 for the avocado toast with add-ons, potatoes, cold brew, water and tip. I'm glad we shared because that felt pretty steep for one breakfast! And for my IBS friends Two separate, private all-gender bathrooms with actual doors. No stalls. We love to see it. Overall, cute place, good food and a different brunch experience. Nothing was bad at all, but for the price, I probably wouldn't rush back.

I really like the concept of hyper-local where even the fisherman gets a shoutout by name on the menu, but I think the presentation and execution fell flat. The other dishes were very underwhelming, and it was really tough to get the attention of my server. When it came time to pay, they offered me a pen which didn't work, then when I asked for another one, it didn't work, and finally I asked a bus boy who gave me 5 pens which 4/5 didn't work. **An Unforgettable Anniversary at Barbareno!**…read more Wow, what a night! My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Barbareno, and it was nothing short of spectacular. He had reserved a table weeks in advance, and even though we ran a few minutes late due to the fiesta madness and Uber challenges, the staff was incredibly kind and understanding. Seriously, they turned what could have been a stressful situation into a smooth entry! Our server, Sierra, was an absolute gem--probably the best server I've encountered in ages! She kicked off the evening by walking us through the menu and setting the tone for our culinary adventure. Talk about being in good hands! To toast our special day, she even surprised us with complimentary champagne. Cheers to that! Now, let's dive into the food! We started with the **bread and butter**--trust me, don't skip it! Next up was the **bacon date preserve**, which was nothing short of incredible. Then came the acorn tagliatelle, made with wild mushrooms and acorn flour. I've never tasted anything quite like it! Unique and delicious! But the real star of the show was the **Santa Maria barbecue tri-tip**. Juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor--it's hands down the best tri-tip I've ever had. I'm still dreaming about it! To wrap up our meal, we indulged in the **dessert wine flight**--a must for anyone visiting! Each sip was a delightful surprise, and we finished with the **avocado mousse**, a light and unique dessert that felt like a perfect ending after a rich meal. As a dessert lover, I was thrilled to find something so indulgent yet refreshing! As if the evening couldn't get any better, the chef himself came to our table to check in. He was humble and genuinely cared about the experience he was providing. It's no wonder Barbareno is Michelin-rated! We can't wait to come back and bring the kids next time. She was about 9 years old and shaking while she poured us water, which made us feel badly for her and not really understand why a child was working at this upscale restaurant but watching the only server/owner running around on the floor it seemed necessary to have this child working the host stand. I understand they were busy or understaffed, but we had a variety of issues throughout our visit that went unaddressed with what resulted in a very odd outburst. The wait for drinks was 20+ minutes, and the wait for a food order exceeded an hour. One drink came out incorrectly. 30+ minutes after ordering our bread came out cold and without butter, and of our party of 3, one guest's entree took an additional 10 minutes to come out without any acknowledgement from staff. Overall the service was really disappointing and there was no apology at any point throughout our meal even though it seemed clear the service was lacking throughout our visit. When the server/owner came to drop our check he asked how our experience was. I truly tried to be as polite as possible while explaining our frustrations. In addition to the long wait times, we had a drink come out the wrong flavor, a rude bartender, and one crepe came out without the Brie as described, which I didn't get a chance to explain. I also mentioned having a child greet us was unexpected to which he told us he was teaching his child responsibility and that's why she was working. He seemed set off by the feedback I was trying to give and he then threw my credit card onto the table and he told me he didn't want my money. I didn't want a free meal, I wanted to give feedback into our experience which I would classify as the worst restaurant service I have ever had. I keep replaying the whole experience trying to figure out what I could have done differently to have had a positive experience but as a long time server in Santa Barbara I'm having a hard time reconciling this crazy experience.

Go somewhere else…read more Most atrocious service I've ever had. Restaurant was empty, hostess has never smiled in her life, maybe outside of work. Server walking back and forth till we pulled him to our table to take our order, mind you the place was empty (now I know why!). Plopped himself next to us, no introduction, no questions, just stone faced. We ordered, he didn't write a thing down, very confident. Placed a simple order. Food came, wrong order. He takes it from in front of me and leaves without a word. I wait and wait, eventually ask if my food is still coming, did he place the wrong order? "Yeah, your food is coming, yes wrong order". There was no "sorry if this isn't your order, there was a mixup" or something, ANYTHING. Food eventually comes, suddenly we have a different server, again no explanation. Food is mid at best. Dessert as an apology or something is out of the question, they've never heard of such a thing. Safe to say I regret wasting my money here, and it makes total sense why it's empty all the time. Don't bother, take your money somewhere else, there are so many great restaurants in Lower Village Montecito, this one is definitely a Must Miss!

The food was great. Fish and chips were solid. Be sure, if you're gluten-free, to say so. The menu…read morecalls the fish and chips GF but it uses wheat beer unless you specify. The brussels were great. One note: all of our food (the fish, the brussels, and the street corn) came at the same time, which meant our small table was both very crowded and things got cold. Wish they had staggered it a bit. Still a great experience and would recommend.

We asked to be sat inside this time and were quickly greeted by Nicholas our waiter. Nicholas was extremely knowledgeable and gracious to our table. He told us about their special for the evening and helped my wife pick out a glass of wine. He was there when you needed him and not hovering over us when he wasn't needed. Just the perfect amount of world class service. We also had the manager check-in on us to see if everything was okay and he was very pleasant to talk to as well. We started off with the escargot which is so amazing every time we order it. For our main entrees my wife ordered the wagyu ribeye, and I ordered the venison loin. Both of these entrees had such amazing flavor. I'm not a truffle oil person and they left that out of the risotto which made this meal amazing to say the least. My eight year old son doesn't eat hardly anything and he was fighting for my wife's wagyu ribeye which was so flavorful. We ended the night with several desserts and a decaf-cappuccino. Everything from start to finish was simply perfect. We thanked the chief and everyone on the way out and chatted with the owner for a few minutes. This place was wonderful and I'm happy to be able to update our last lackluster experience with this updated perfect dining experience. Thanks Bouchon for having us, we will definitely be back.

We had a reservation but arrived earlier , were seated right away , the order taken right away. We ordered crab cakes ( which was from real crab and were amazing and ended up being the highest item on the check lol - $70 ) I ordered rack of lamb and every bite was like heaven. Tender meat , perhaps the freshest meat , excellent dance of flavors. My husband got a venison on a risotto and I took a bite - excellent! Both meat and rice. I finished that with lemon upside down cake Was perfect as well, perfect combination of sweet and sour complemented by ice cream. Special thank to David- our waiter, very nice and genuine gentleman made our evening perfect. The service was excellent all throughout. If you have a special occasion- this is the place to pick. Thank you so much for experience we had!
