Came here back in April when my cousin was visiting from Chicago and we had such a good time! The food was delicious, the margaritas were great, and we even tried the oyster shots, which were definitely interesting but actually really good. We sat outside and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The seating was nice, the service was great, and overall it was just a really good vibe. I definitely see myself coming back and bringing other people here. We were not disappointed!
I was really surprised by Brophy Bros. The quality of the food was excellent, and having such a beautiful oceanfront location with reasonable prices made the experience even better. We ordered the New York Steak, and the seasoning was done really well. The steak had great flavor and was cooked nicely. The Seabass was also excellent and another highlight of our meal. We also ordered two cups of clam chowder to go along with our dishes, and it was a nice addition to the meal. Our server Michael was very friendly and funny, which made our dining experience even more enjoyable. Since this restaurant is right by the ocean, parking can be a little challenging, and the restaurant can get quite crowded and noisy. But the beautiful ocean view and the quality of the food made it worth the visit. We would definitely come back again if we have the chance to visit Santa Barbara.
Going to Brophy Bros is pure nostalgia for me. Dunking that sourdough bread into their clam chowder made me just as happy now as it did when I was younger. Yes, you're going to have to wait, but once you put your name down, you can walk around the harbor. Once you're seated, they are pretty efficient with getting drinks and delivering complimentary bread and butter (something that's getting increasingly rare). I love that their entrees come with either soup or salad, instead of costing extra. The food is probably closer to a four, but it's better than I expected, considering the setting. Definitely sit outside if you can so you can enjoy the view of the harbor - inside is a bit noisy. I got the swordfish and my husband ordered the seafood pasta. Portions are generous. In retrospect, we could have split the pasta and ordered another cup of clam chowder as there was so much food. Service is friendly. Brophy's is definitely one of Santa Barbara's classic restaurants!
We waited 30 minutes for a table but it was definitely worth it. Our table was outside overlooking the marina, what a perfect day to enjoy all the yummy food. Everything was amazing from the calamari, clam chowder (the best) and our main entrees. We will come back again when we visit SB.
5 out of 5 stars. This place has the best fish & chips that I've ever tasted. This goes with the calamari appetizer and the clam chowder. I will definitely be coming back to this place. I'm a huge fan of seafood and this place ranks #1 in my books. I'm from SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA and I tell ya, I would be willing to drive up here just to eat the food. Be mindful there is a wait. We arrived and were put on a waitlist. They said 30 minute wait and it ended up being 15 minutes or so. This place is BUSY. Tight quarters. Kids are welcomed but please make sure they are tame and are able to sit still because waiters will be walking around in a fast paced environment with little room to move.
You can't beat the view. Food was great, and the service was great too. The fish was as good as you would expect it to be. Sides were tasty also. Service was prompt, and they were on top of it despite being busy. I mean, every single table in the whole spot was full. We got great service, and had a great time. I'd go back.
We were down on the harbor at lunchtime and I wanted to find a place to eat where we didn't have to battle for a table/picnic bench in the shade on a hot day, so we ended up a Brophy's. We walked upstairs and were pleased to be able to snag one of the last tables before the waitlist began at lunch hour. It's a casual spot so I didn't expect much but I was pleasantly surprised. My wife and I both got the sesame salmon salad and the kiddo got the Brophy Burger. The salad was delicious- a big and nicely cooked salmon filet on top of an Asian salad that was really tasty! The burger was big, came with a good amount of fries, and some slaw. Service was pretty good, I'd definitely come back again!
Wow, this restaurant has it all. Great service, food and view. The clam chowder was excellent along with the complimentary bread. The fish and clams were ordered were also great. Aisha our server was simply awesome, friendly and attentive. Overall, we had a great experience.
We showed up around 7 p.m. and the place was packed. We put our name in for a table for two, and Katie, the hostess, apologetically told us it would be about a 45-minute wait. She was clearly slammed, so we headed downstairs to wait. When we got the text that our table was ready, Katie was still incredibly busy, but she was just as kind and welcoming as when we first arrived. We asked her how her night was going, and she shared that people had been exceptionally rude to her that evening. It wasn't said as a complaint--it was just one of those little human moments where you actually stop and ask someone how they're doing. The food was absolutely amazing and definitely worth the wait, but my biggest shout-out goes to Katie. Despite a packed restaurant and a difficult night, she was warm, patient, and genuinely kind to us. Katie, I hope your manager sees this. You were the best part of an already fantastic experience. And for the rest of us: be nice to your hostess. She's a human being doing her best to get you a table!
Surprised by how delicate the batter is on their beer battered fish and chips, New England style clam chowder was very solid too and not cloying. Fresh oysters were shucked expertly and cleanly. Lovely small tables on the balcony with great view. Had a bit of wait but went really fast. Service was fast and attentive with water refills and checks.
staff is incredibly nice, we had Tatyana, I didn't get the hostess name but being new parents we had to bring our stroller everywhere and we found out they don't have access. It is a very crowded place, but the staff offered to carry our stroller and store it to the side. it's a bit packed and the staircase is narrow, but the vibes were different there I believe at the countertop its self seating. we got the fish and chips, chicken sandwich, oysters, and the hot combo. Fish and chips were great, batter was nice and crispy not too oily the fries were less than mid. Fried chicken sandwich was OK not the best but not the worst we've had. The hot combo was good. I think I would've preferred something else. I didn't really care for the shrimp and you couldn't switch it out.
7/28/26 Four star view and service three star food. After a long wait to get in we were seated on the outside deck on a beautiful day just looking out at the boats and harbor made the wait worth it. Our server who was knowledgeable and very sweet took our order of GBCs - garlic baled clams and clam chowder. The food arrived in a timely manner and we began to eat. Garlic Baked Clams first, there were six large whole clams topped with a breadcrumb mixture, they were good but not too garlicky. The New England style clam chowder was the stand out. A large bowl of creamy chowder filled with clams and potatoes just as it should be served with bread it was a filling meal. This was a great stopover for us as we headed towards LA. Brophy Bros. is one of the best seafood restaurants in Santa Barbara hands down! My friend and I were there last in 2022. Couldn't miss the opportunity to go this trip, we went for lunch right when it opened. We hate waiting in lines. We sat at the bar. The bar and outside patio seating filled up quickly shortly after we arrived and we were there on a Wednesday for lunch. It seem like a lot of locals/regulars showed up as the bartender and shellfish shucker seemed to know them. My friend loves their Bloody Marys, so he ordered one and I had a beer. We had 1/2 dozen Oysters and Cherry Stone Clams, along with Garlic Baked Clams and a bowl of New England Clam Chowder. The seafood was amazing, the gentlemen that was shucking the oysters and clams was phonomenal ... not one piece of shell, so clean, so fresh. The baked clams and chowder are also amazing. Atmosphere: great on the dock restaurant feel with great views. Food: excellent. Service: excellent. read more
I can go on and on about this place. You know it's a major establishment when you have your locals always coming in. This location is at the Santa Barbara Harbor. There's another location in Ventura Harbor but this is my favorite. Even before they open, there's always a line forming. People rush in for the bar seating that looks out to the waterfront. There's patio section along the side but it's more for smaller groups and it's narrow. A decent size restaurant inside with more tables as well as the tables outside. They don't seat you till your whole party is here. Also some seating downstairs. I think bar counter is first come. Service is alway great and the staffs are alway so sweet and friendly. Menu, petty much seafood as it should be. There's also a full bar. If it just two of us, we love the bar seating but if it's a group, a table is better. Easier to communicate. Food wise, alway the hot platter which consist of both bake oysters and claims. Then you have the steam mussels, clams and peel and eat shrimp in a nice wine broth. Is worth it. Of course you have to have the clam chowder. Small cup size but better to get the bowl to share. Also comes in a bread bowl option. Then there's the poke salad in a bed of mixed greens with fried wonton chips and a heaping of fresh tuna. Easy eat both for a meal or sharing. The two main dish that we never skip out on, the seafood pasta and ciopinno. Pasta, linguine with nice big chunks of shrimp and scallops with tomatoes and cheese. Simple but so good. It's a must and then you have the ciopinno. First off, the price is amazing. A nice big bowl of broth with loads of seafood and then topped with loads of cheese. It's definitely a MUST. There's other dishes that we do get but we have our regulars that is always a must. The food is alway amazing and very filling. They also bring out sourdough when you sit down but save the stomach for the main attraction. Come early and wait in line. Right when the door opens, the restaurant is in full swing. read more
We had the fresh sea bass and the salmon with clam chowder and it was good. We sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive and friendly. However the VIEW is the star here! We had some nice wine and watched the boats go in and out and we enjoyed it all. We will be going back. read more

Brophy's is a stop I can never pass up when driving down this way...even if it adds a couple hours to the trip. Worth it. My go to is a cup of clam chowder and the hot seafood sampler. Specially if you like a little bit of everything. I gotta say though the topping on the oysters tasted different this time and not a fan but the baked clams were still amazing and the broth is soooo goood. I wish they would have yummier bread, that isn't so hard, cold, and dry , but its free bread service so 1st world problems. Mom's fish and chips were pretty dang good. Very light, airy-crispy batter and a good amount. Prices are pretty fair-not too crazy. Service fast and friendly. Limited seating so sometimes there can be a wait, but I usually get there right when it opens. Good stuff. read more
We came here for dinner. It was extremely busy. We were put on a waitlist, but we do get a message when the table is ready. Meanwhile, we walked along the Harbor as we waited for the message. We got a seat on the outside to enjoy the views and breeze. I ordered the Seafood Pasta with the clam chowder. I was stuffed by the time I was finished. It was a good place with good food to enjoy with good friends. Only issue I had was that the server doesn't come by enough. They can just take a quick walk to see if anything is needed. It took a while for the check to come and for me to pay. I had to go up to someone else to take care of the check. read more

After a short wait, we were seated at the bar. We immediately were given our drink of choice and ordered our dinner. Our first thing we Always order is one GBC's garlic baked clams! Absolutely the best tartar sauce and fish & chips for me. First had maybe a dozen or 15 years ago and haven't had in a while since too many things to eat in SB. But in Feb, we ate the Brophy Bros in Ventura and it instantly became my favorite seafood place! In March, we hit both SB lunch one day and Ventura dinner the next, lol. Always crowded at SB location of course, but wanted to sit down upstairs since haven't done so in so long. Long wait, but was lucky enough to get bar seating that opened up! Super hard working bar area servers for sure. Hustling buckets of something maybe ice, not sure, while serving folks at the bar nonstop. Tall woman had awesome awareness of the bar eaters, water got topped off before even asking, just awesome hustling workers. I've wanted to try the fish of the day sandwich when ate dinner at Ventura the month before, and this was the perfect chance for lunch. Fish was ahi, which I usually don't go for since I don't care much for the usual ahi that's seared. But wanted to try the sandwich so got it anyway to see. To my surprise, it was a cooked through ahi, even better! A nice thick cut of ahi, I was impressed! But we know how a cooked thru ahi can be dry. Not here! As I was noticing since Ventura dinner, Brophy Bros knows how to cook fish perfectly, without being overcooked, just perfect! Great fish + tartar sauce in a sandwich? I love it! Only way to improve their fish sandwich is maybe with an improved bread over the generic sliced bread. But then maybe that's by design, as you are not distracted by the bread and enjoying the incredible piece of fish & tartar! Shared sandwich with wife while kid at his usual and best fish n chips. Wife was even shocked at how good the ahi sandwich was. Seriously, def getting fish sandwich any time in SB or Ventura for lunch. For dinner it'll be more difficult since swordfish and the seabass are so incredible. Either way, Brophy Bro is now a must get for me for any SB trip! read more

Family day in Santa Barbara and we finally got around to Brophy Bros. The location is really something, right in the harbor with that perfect coastal vibe. The space is intimate and cozy, and if you have time to wait for a spot on the upstairs patio it's well worth it. I had the Fried Cauliflower Sandwich which was great, the roasted garlic sriracha really complemented it well. Fries were good. The coleslaw on the other hand was dry and flavorless, easily the low point of the meal. Service was also lacking, our server was stretched way too thin and it showed. I get that it was busy but that's a staffing issue that shouldn't fall on the customers. The views and the food mostly made up for it though. Brophy Bros is still a solid stop in Santa Barbara. read more
The food here is really delicious. Had the ciopino and the blackened salmon salad, with a glass of wine and a maitai. Atmosphere is very busy on a Friday evening. Very loud. We were seated quickly. Error was made on my friend's order and they fixed it quickly. read more
This was our first stop in Santa Barbara per a recommendation. We were able to grab a seat on the upstairs outdoor deck which was an awesome view of the harbor. We ordered the fish and chips, fish sandwich, clam chowder, 6 raw oysters, garlic clams, and burger. The garlic clams, fish and chips, and fish sandwich were the biggest hits. Overall consensus was not a huge fan of the poppy seeds that came in the coleslaw of the fish and chips, burger, and fish sandwich though. I liked the clam chowder, however, my husband found it to be slightly sweet - we are from New England, so we're a tough crowd. read more

The fried seafood is amazing, light and crispy batter. The craft cheeseburger was juicy and charbroiled. No wait downstairs at the bar with a limited menu, was able to eat at the outdoor counter so we could people watch and look at the harbor. read more
Great service, friendly and efficient. We ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer and loved it! I had to try a cup of clam chowder, it was very good - not the very best I've had, but very good. I also had the fish and chips. The fish was delicious- perfectly fried on the outside, tender and light on the inside. The coleslaw was excellent too. I was so full that I couldn't finish my fish, and never even got to the fries! Glad we tried Brophy Bros. Would definitely recommend! read more
Stopped by this place just as I was about to leave from Santa Barbara. I wish there was a way to give 3.5 stars but there's not. SERVICE We didn't have reservations but came here with a group of 5 and were able to immediately get seated. FOOD Fried clams 5/5 Oysters Rockefeller 4/5 2 Hot combos good 3/5 1/2 dozen oysters w/ cucumber lime relish 2/5 Favorite of all the dishes was oysters Rockefeller New England clam chowder & house salad combo with bowl 3.5/5 for clam chowder ( had to add pepper and salt to season it) and 3/5 for salad. A lovely meal with a lovely view of the ocean! We have dined at several similar restaurants across OC and this one by far had the best food. I would probably say the scampi was my personal favorite dish of the night -- so buttery with a generous serving of prawns. I got the seafood pasta which was also great, just maybe a little healthier tasting than the scampi, and the scallops in the dish were cooked beautifully. We also tried the salmon with rice pilaf and salad on the side and while it may not have been the best salmon dish ever, it was definitely up there. The bloody mary was pretty standard, and we loved that the side of salad/soup came earlier so we could enjoy it as a sort of appetizer. read more
First time here, it was a nice little stop. The oysters were fresh but you need to add some vinegar to the tray. Oysters Rockefeller were differently prepared then we're used to but delicious. My two girlfriends and I came here for a weekend girls trip for lunch and had a blast! First off be ready for some challenging parking. However, we were quite lucky and was able to find one last spot in their parking lot. From the parking lot, it is a quick three minute walk to this restaurant. We waited for about 10 minutes and got seated. It was quite packed, so do keep that in mind that you may have to wait a while for a table. Service was quick though. I ordered a blackened Seabass, which came with fries. I also ordered half dozen oysters with relish. Both were tasty and I would get them again, especially the oysters with their amazing relish. My friends ordered their clam chowder which they exclaimed was the best they've ever had. This included a girlfriend of mine who lived in the East Coast for four years by Boston. Overall, it was a great spot for lunch right on the pier. It was a perfect way to start our trip in Santa Barbara. read more

This is such a spot. When it's a nice day out, you will find all the locals here. (Even when it's not a nice day out you will. ) This is the best oyster shooter I've ever had. No one else compares. The cocktail mix is the perfect blend of spicy and savory. It's fun to sit at the bar if you can. You often have to wait for a spot, but it's worth it. Just grab a drink in the window and wait. The bartenders are all seasoned and super helpful and cool. Food wise: The shrimp scampi is very generous. The sesame crusted ahi is so delicious and fresh. The sourdough bread they give you is delish. I suggest coming for a Bloody Mary and come clam chowder. That's the move. This is one of the best classic restaurants in SB. read more
This place seems like THE PLACE to visit in Santa Barbara. Table for two walk in, they said about 40 min wait, but it was more like 20 mins... we went to the bar (first come first serve) while we waited to share a clam chowder. Very tasty! At our table we added oyster rockerfeller, which I did not try due to pregnancy - but my partner said they were decent. Now to be fair it wasn't their specialty, unlike the garlic baked clams.... Those were pretty good but again no particularly over the moon for them. Added some peel and eat shrimp - they were smaller pieces, rice pilaf and coleslaw.... I'd say if you've never experience brophy's it's worth a visit but I've tried better seafood places in the area... It's also very busy so it can get quite noisy, and the seats aren't the most comfortable :) read more
My friends and I got to stop by over the weekend and I'm glad we did! The service was great and Layla was welcoming during our visit. Is there a happy hour, if so, what are the hours?
No Happy Hour, but the atmosphere and the food make up for it by a long shot!
Do I need reservations for two or Thursday night?
It probably wouldn't hurt.. It's usually always pretty busy there...
How do I find my restaurant reservations?
They should have emailed you or texted you if you've opted in for both options but if you are looking on Yelp, it should be under 'me' and 'activity' and the first one should be reservations. Or hit the 'more' triple bar and reservations should be…
The restaurant is pet friendly?
If you sit on the bottom floor outside I think you can have your pet there.
Are the stairs the only way inside?
don't recall them having an elevator, but they may. don't know. However, they do have a related restaurant around the corner and one downstairs. slightly different menus but some same items. quieter!
Is there an elevator?
No there is not unfortunately. There are steps both at the front of the house and the back of the house.
Can I bring my dog?
You can bring them to On the Alley downstairs around the corner. Same owners, partial Brophy Menu.
Do you guys have any vegetarian dishes?
They can make their dishes without seafood if you request it!
Does Brophy Bros have a happy hour menu?
it used to be... but after the pandemia No more
Is this place pet friendly for out door seating?
There are some tables downstairs that you can sit at with your pet. To be honest, there are so many people that are walking by and waiting for a table that pets are easily distracted. Lots of little dogs wanting to fight big dogs.
What do I need to do to seat a party of fifteen?
Make a plan where reservations are accepted, sorry...
I have been trying to call the restaurant and all I get is a recorded message. I would like to know if I can make a lunch reservation, party of 4 for this Saturday? I assume it is outdoor dining for safety reasons. Thank you.
Brophy's does not take reservations. It's a first come, first serve, then a wait list. Plenty to do and see while you wait though. Good luck!
