We did family style and ordered the following: - pan con tomato -- the bread is so crispy and the tomato spread is soooo good! It was perfect with the jamon - papatas brava -- crispy potatoes fried so well with a yummy aioli sauce - tortilla espanola -- this one was my favorite ! A fluffy omelette with leek and potatoes; I was so pleasantly surprised with how tasty this one was - pulpo -- the octopus was a little softer in texture but with the puree and pickled onions; it was a great balance - mariscos paella -- crispy squid ink rice with lots of seafood! My dining experience at Loquito was nice enough, but not memorable. We started with the croqueta de seta ($17 for 3). These are deep fried, filled with porcini + truffle, and served with saffron aioli. I liked the mushroom filling - it tasted earthy and settled nicely with the saffron aioli. Since we were a party of two with slight appetites, we shared two mains: -champiñones ($19): king trumpet mushrooms, mojo verde, crispy leeks + px sherry -gammas al ajillo ($25): jumbo prawns, garlic, guindilla pepper, paprika, ciabatta But were fine, but very ordinary. There were a lot of muted flavors and nothing really stood out from either one of the dishes. My friends and I were really excited to try this place due to all the great reviews. We were most excited for their famous paella! Of note, their paella takes ~30-40mins so do be prepared to wait a bit. In the meantime, we got some appetizers. We got their potatoes, octopus, a salad, & their prawns. Our highlights were the potatoes & paella. The other dishes were quite mid, with the octopus being the worst dish. The paella was good but definitely not something worth waiting for. The service was also quite mid. It was difficult to get the attention of the servers. Our server only checked up on us a total of 3 times. One for taking our order, one for the check, and one for water refills. We had asked for some extra napkins and he forgot so we had to ask a busser instead. Overall, I would not come back. From start to finish, our visit to Loquita was smooth and wonderful. Our server was so knowledgeable about the food, which we appreciated and ensured we always had full glasses whether it was water or another round. Loquita is classy, chic and great for a night out for couples, friends or family. We ordered both mocktails and couldn't decide which one was our favorite. The horchata was SO good, perfectly sweet and smooth. The Bengala was a refreshing surprise but more on the zesty side. We decided to split six tapas between the two of us and we were stuffed by the end. My personal favorites were the broccolini and the crudo, but all of them were fantastic! Everything was delicious! We were lucky to get seating, it was jampacked and we did not have a reservations. We were wondering why the line out the door was so long and we looked up some yelp reviews and decided we were going to try our luck. My husband and I lurked around the bar, hoping for two seats to open up for us. It took about 30 to 45 minutes, but it was so worth it, we weren't that hungry because we had had a late lunch and this was the perfect place to have tapas style dining. It had been such a long time since I've had iberico ham. They are kind of hard to come by or I'm just not looking very well lol but the ham was delicious and I don't mean to state the obvious, but it literally melts in your mouth and it's not as salty as other cure meats that I've had in the past. The bread I was a little bit suspicious because the jam or spread that was on it is super pink and unnatural looking.... but it was delicious if I could describe it I would probably say it's toasted bread with a tomato jam???? but not as sweet because it taste like it's fresh tomatoes and not really preserved tomatoes. I did not have a cocktail, but my husband ordered about three of their drinks that I don't even remember the name of of, but I know for sure that it had yellow Chartreuse, with a very light, citrusy fruit, not sure if it was grapefruit, lime, or lemon. I finally tried his drink because it was his third, to see what all of the fuss was about, and it was so refreshing! From my understanding Chartreuse it's very herbal and in my mind I imagine it to be like cough syrup, but no, it was so delicious and I don't know if it's the citrus that cuts that herbal taste because I could not even taste it. Any who, it was a really amazing anniversary treat, we are really glad we stumble upon this place and we cannot wait to go back and get a proper reservation and try actual food instead of appetizers and drinks, I'm really looking forward to trying their paellas! If you've never been to Spain and want to experience the closest thing to it without leaving Santa Barbara, then you NEED to add Loquita to your list! I've been to Loquita for a few events now and the ambiance, food and hospitality is always a 10/10. They know how to throw a great party, so while you'd be lucky to dine at their restaurant, it's even better if you can make one of their annual celebrations like we did for their Old Spanish Days Fiesta. The sangria never stopped flowing, endless tapas paraded themselves around the patio, paella was being served up, and the whole afternoon was filled with authentic flamenco inspired dance performances that made you feel like you had been transported straight to Spain. Between the music, dancing, food, drinks and the absolute energy of everyone there, this was easily one of those events where you look around and think, "Okayyy, THIS is how you do a summer fiesta!" Some of my favorite bites of the day here were their paella, octopus and mushrooms croquets. Absolutely amazing and every bite had so much flavor. Their house made sangrias were also so refreshing and tasty. After a very disappointing meal the day before, I knew EXACTLY where I needed to go to redeem my experience and I was absolutely blown away by Loquita. Every single dish was an absolute banger. The flavors, the textures, the ambience, and every single part was crafted so carefully. The pulpo was so tender it had me smacking the table and everyone around needed to order it bc "they'll have what he's having!". The paella was the gift that kept on giving and I was like a coal miner after his shift the way I left absolutely no grain of rice untouched by the end. The fish complete with ikura and citrus on top had every combination of refreshing but nourishing and delicious--I was absolutely spellbound. Finally, we enjoyed the creme brûlée and I wanted to cry. Mediterranean European cuisines are my favorites and my diet. I don't get to eat Spanish food often so we had to come in for an early dinner. We were seated at the beautiful back patio but it was a bit too hot & sunny for me. The patio was very cozy and relaxing though. We started off with sparkling water and pitcher of sangria to cool down on a hot day. For food we had beef carpaccio, broccolini, octopus, tortilla espanola (Spanish omelet) and whole branzino. Highly recommend reservations for any day. The crudo dish was great. Sauce and presentation was excellent. Cons: The fusion styled sauce and misc ingredients added to the beef carpaccio dish was over the top. Keep it simple. The Pulpo dish did not have a sufficient portion of octopus. Only two and half small pieces for $29. Ridiculous. Bar/cocktail service was an extremely long wait. All nearby tables also waited an extremely long time for drinks. My boss and fellow foodie listed Loquita as one of his recommendations and I've been meaning to try it. I only go to Santa Barbara once a year for Fiesta and I finally was able to try them. Everything I ate was delicious! I started out with the Bengala de Granada, which was a mocktail of pentire coastal spritz, pomegranate, ginger, lime, cinnamon, and clove. It was so refreshing on a hot Fiesta day. Under the Bocaditos menu, we ordered the denia (confit tomato, cured bluefin tuna) and the croquetas de seta (porcini and truffle with a saffron aioli). The denia set the tone for dinner with the bright acidity of the tomato with the salty tuna. The croquetas were rich of umami flavor with an undertone of truffle that paired well with the brightness of the saffron. Under the charcuterie menu, we got the jamón tasting that included pan con tomate. The tomatoes were bright and paired well with the different salty hams, which were serrano, ibérico, and iberico chorizo. For the tapas, we got the tortilla española, patatas bravas, broccolini, and the ensalada mediterránea. It was a good balance of light and heavy dishes. The broccolini and salad were the light dishes. The broccolini was nicely seared and the romesco sauce added a nutty flavor. The Mediterranean salad was herbaceous with pops of richness from the manchego cheese. The rest were on the heavier side. Though, the eggs of the tortilla española were incredibly fluffy. It was like biting into a cloud. The potatoes were also soft. It was a comforting dish. And then there were the patatas bravas, my favorite tapa! They were slightly crisp with a bit of heat from their house sauce and garlic aioli. Each bite was as satisfying as the next. And then the star of the show came right when we finished most of the tapas - the chorizo and chicken paella. The rice was pressed against the pan so every bite had that prized soccarat. The char of the soccarat harmonized with the depthness of the tomato and other aromatics in the rice. It was luxurious. And the chicken was juicy and had a wonderful smoky flavor. The portions of chicken, chorizo, and mushrooms were generous! It can definitely feed a family of six, so we were able to have leftovers as we were a family of three. And it was even better the next day! No matter how full we are, we always have dessert to share. We ordered the crema catalana, and it was the perfect way to end the meal. It was silky smooth and the caramel flavor went so well with the sweet and slightly tart Santa Barbara strawberries. I imagine this restaurant is always busy, but it was even more so during Fiesta. It's loud inside and out, but it's adds to the festive vibes. Service was excellent! I very much appreciated that our waiter confirmed our allergies. He even put the romesco sauce on the side just in case since it had almonds. Luckily, my nut allergy is contained to only pine nuts because I enjoyed the sauce very much. I recommend eating outside to enjoy their patio space. Since they only open for dinner, the heat isn't as bad since it gets cooler around the time they open. Loquita is at the start of the Funk Zone. So parking is extremely limited. Best to walk or ride-share there. I don't think I can wait for the next Fiesta to dine here again. I hope to be back sooner. read more

For a 3-day wknd we deliberately researched a culinary range of SB's best. That included both of its Michelin Bib Gourmand venues - Loquita and Sama Sama. We made 7pm reservations more than a month in advance for our Sunday evening dinner which netted us a nice window seat facing out to State Street. And good thing we had those reservations as the hostess was advising walk-ins of 20-30 minute waits. We had done some wine tastings earlier in the day so passed on drinks despite some very delectable listings. We wanted to sample beef-to-seafood and in between, so for appetizers we got the Carpaccio de Carne ($27) and Champinones ($19). The beef is essentially raw (ever so slightly seared on its outside before being thinly shaved and layered as 2x3 inch slices on a plate). With its truffled manchego and delicate lettuce leaves it was tender and delicious. The sliced and sauteed trumpet mushrooms were unique, tasty, and filling, though about a 1/4 of the slices could have been cooked about a minute longer (perhaps owing to not actually touching the sauce pan's direct heat, as most of the rest appeared to have). For our entree we ordered the mariscos paella ($70) - amply loaded with squid, clams, and shrimp over a thin bed of black (squid-inked) rice and definitely enough to feed two people! All seafood proteins were tender and not at all overcooked (key!). We didn't have room for dessert but had eyed their Bosque-style cheesecake ($14). So, naturally, we got it to go... and a beautiful job of boxing they did. We delved later that evening back at the hotel and the membrillo sauce and fresh berries really dressed up the flavors nicely. This was definitely worthy of the Bib accolade! read more

Absolutely do not get the "tempura" cauliflower. It legitimately might be the worst fried dish I've ever had. The batter was extremely extremely thick and almost undercooked. The mariscos paella was the highlught but for $70 that's really not saying much and even for that much it was overpriced. They used to put mussels in it based on the photos but have since switch to (much cheaper) squid steak. During our 1.5 hour dinner our server came by ~4 times and we had empty glasses galore. They also need to get rid of the 2 tops between the larger tables. It's not an enjoyable dining experience being constantly bumped by waitstaff. Once again the SB food scene dissapoints. read more

I ordered the prawns, patatas bravas and salad. It was so delicious my wife and I have been talking about it for 5 years. Today I came back and ordered the prawns again, only to find a subpar replacement. Broth was so diluted, extremely spicy and somehow lacking flavor -- needed way more acidity and salt. Understanding you all have to update your menu, it was sad to find the replacements were completely lacking. I hope you bring back the rich, flavorful prawns with thick tomato sauce. Truly was exquisite. To add to this, everything else we tried was also terrible. The ahi tuna crudo was sliced extremely thick and also lacked flavor. Then to top it off the branzino was strangely in a creme sauce with roe? A bizarre combination. Loved our server though! And for that, I'll give you 2 stars. We happened to come for dinner and were luckily seated without a reservation (highly recommend making a reservation if you plan on coming). We were seated at the bar style seating where you get to see the kitchen, which I actually prefer since you get to see everyone work. // DRINKS // Ooo Mami: lalo tequila, mezcal, lemon, passionfruit, agave, orange bitters, umami. A little on the sweeter side, but pretty well balanced and fruit forward. 4/5 // FOOD // Patatas Bravas: yukon gold potatoes, pimentón emulsion, brava sauce, garlic aioli. This appetizer didn't stand out. It's your typical patatas bravas, but it wasn't as flavorful as I've had elsewhere. 3/5 Ensalada Invierno: roasted kale, baby beets, marcona almonds, orange supreme, coca bread, manchego foam. Very smoky! I was surprised how much the kale took on the smoke of the grill, but it was very different. 2/5 Mariscos: bomba rice, manila clams, jumbo prawns, grilled squid, squid ink, green peas, garlic aioli. The star of the show and absolutely delicious. It was so flavorful and the grilled squid was so tender and melt in your mouth delicious. 5/5 Overall, even though the starters were a miss for me, I would definitely come back for the paella and drinks again, and also to try a few of the other dishes. read more

Truly unbelievable meal at Loquita! Impossible to choose my favorite bite, but the paella was out of this world good. And the weather was perfect for an evening on the patio. Such a beautiful space. Service was wonderful from the entire team. I would eat here once a week if I were locals. read more

Been wanting to try this spot for quite some time! Food and ambience are great. We ordered the patatas bravas, piquillos ahumados, pan con tomate with jamon serrano and the pollo y chorizo paella. Food was great and the right amount of food for table of 3. I absolutely loved the paella and the chicken was cooked to perfection. Just a tad bit on the salty side overall but still very tasty. Service was lacking just a bit. Wish the waiter checked in a little more often. Also took a bit of time for hostess to seat us despite having a reservation and seeing multiple tables ready and open on our walk over to our seats. Definitely would recommend this spot and would love to come back. read more
