Came here on a Saturday afternoon after hearing my friend rave about this place and I was not disappointed! I ordered the Yona Deluxe because I wanted some variety and all the items were great. I definitely got my birria fix after consuming three birria items. My favorite was probably the mulita! There is plenty of consome that comes piping hot with the food and the salsa bar had a good selection of salsas that paired well with my meal. I also ordered a jamaica to drink and it was yummy! My friends and I stumbled upon this restaurant while walking around state street. We got drawn in by their birria sign and we are so glad that we came in to give this place a try! You first order at the counter. The lady at the counter was really nice and gave us some complimentary chips with our order. There was a nice selection of sauces/ salsas on the side for people to take. We ordered the birria taco set and some other tacos. We really enjoyed the birria. It was super flavorful and meat was tender. The consome was delicious. It was definitely missing the cheese so we ended up ordering some quesabirria tacos. I had been hearing about this place since COVID and never tried. Even followed them on social media. So when I had the opportunity to be in Santa Barbara, I had to stop here. It was a Saturday at 1030 pm with a mixed crowd. Some families and some people who had clearly come to have their post bar drinking grub. Since they're known for their birria, I just had to try the quesotaco and then the vampiro intrigued me so I ordered asada. It definitely hit the spot. Very flavorful! All the salsas were fresh. And they offered radishes too which I love! The hot salsa is very hot so use caution. My friend loved the fresh horchata and I thought it was a great touch they served them in cantaritos. My husband placed an online order on Sunday. Order and payment were accepted, online hours said they were open. He arrived to pick up his order and the restaurant was closed. Understandable that things may come up forcing a restaurant to have to close for the day. Unacceptable that they would not turn off their online ordering system on a day they were closed. The demonstrates to me a lack of concern for their customers time and finances. Bonus that they have not been reachable by phone any time I've tried to call since then. Had to open a dispute with the credit card company for a refund. Really liked this place when the first opened at their original location, but price has gone up and quality of food and service has diminished over the years. Was walking down State St. looking for a late lunch when I spotted their sign claiming best Birria Taco and had to try it for myself. Since it was a Saturday, they were offering the Yona Special made with Goat which is the traditional meat to have in Birria Tacos. We both got 2 goat and 1 beef for our Yona Special and oddly one came out almost 10 minutes earlier than the other. The staff were very attentive and kept checking on the second order for us and kept us updated. They did apologize for the delay which we did appreciate. The Birria tacos themselves were pretty good. At first, I was a little nervous with how much cheese there seemed to be but after biting into it I saw there was a decent amount of meat too. Taste was great and I honestly couldn't really tell which was goat or beef. I think what would have made this 5 stars was if the tortillas weren't so greasy, since they were falling apart as we were eating them. Initially, she was coughing into her elbow but then proceeded to cough directly into her hand. We didn't notice her washing her hands before bringing our food over to us. Afterwards, she was playing with a dog that someone brought into the restaurant, and again, we didn't see her washing her hands afterwards. My shrimp taco had only one shrimp in it, and my fish taco only had a tiny piece of fried fish in it. Both tacos were filled with mostly chopped lettuce and tomatoes. The two burritos we also ordered came with a strange cheese that tasted like cheese used for fondue, absolutely nothing like Mexican cheeses typically used for such dishes, like queso fresco or cotija. During an overnight excursion in Santa Barbara my wife and I spotted an ad on the back of a bus for Yona Redz. The tacos in that ad looked incredible and we made a mental note. We made a stop at a local game store and when we walked out Yona Redz was directly across the street, as if fate was telling us to have Birria Queso Tacos! I don't know about you but I always listen to fate especially when Birria Tacos are involved. My wife and I ordered three tacos each. We didn't get the consume which for some might be blasphemy but I chose to dunk my tacos in their Chile de Arbol. The creamy, perfectly melted cheese, tender Birria and spice blended together perfectly. Before I get a head of myself and forget the staff was super friendly. Went in today to get five tacos. After ordering we went to go and sit down to wait for our food. We waited for about 45 minutes and still had not received anything we ordered, but I saw the staff running around and chatting. There was no other customers at that point or any time that we had been there. I went up to the front and asked how much longer it was going to take. She checked, and told me that they hadn't even started on the food yet. I requested a refund because we had to get going for a show, and I was told she wasn't able to issue one and to come back a different day. What a scam. $40 dollars for tacos, a massive waste of time, no food, and no refund. We started going here years ago when they were at their old location, and followed them to the new spot. We live hours away but would make a point to stop here whenever in town, and a few times took a separate road trip just to eat here. Sad to say I won't be back. read more

The food is amazing. The place is clean and the salsa bar is just what you need to dress up your tacos. Overall 5 stars- but they lose 2 stars for charging a 4% fee when paying with a credit card (this practice is illegal in California as of July 1, 2024 per Senate Bill 478 and also per CA civil code section 1748.1). They frame it as a "4% cash discount" but that's also covered in SB478 and is also technically illegal. The only exception provided in the bill is for gas stations. Really wish I could have given them 5 stars. The food is worth it. I'll be back too. The illegal 4% fee won't keep me away, the food is that good. Just saying- credit card fees are a cost of doing business. There's nothing stopping them from refusing Amex which a lot of small businesses do to save cc fees but instead they are knowingly breaking the law by charging more for customers who pay with a credit card. read more

The consommé was bomb!! Done to perfection with herbs and all types of "I love you ingredients " ( I wish I could enlighten you with actual names, but mexi cuisine is still new to me) Wasn't much salt.. But when your seasons and herbs are working together Salt is just a distraction... The temp was really hot.. And this side item was very filling Ok the Birria burger... I wasn't expecting it to be actual chunks of beef. Like tender stew beef.. This dish was super yummy.. Happy biting into each opportunity of this burger I felt like my choice of this was place was a homerun Straight out the park.. Going, going gone.... I guess I was supposed to dunk the burger in Consommé....‍‍ While that wouldve been natural for some to do.. Came in for SB's Burger Week to try the famous birria burger with consume. Wow. The creativity! They were prepared quite quickly and didn't wait too long. At first thought, this kind of reminds me of a pambazo. The burger comes with lots of meat, onion, cilantro, and a layer of melted/toasted cheese! So good. The consume was also very delicious and had great flavor. I used the spoon to put the consume onto the burger to make every bite even more delicious. This is the first time I try this restaurant's food and I did enjoy the burger and recommend it! I didn't really care for the salsas I grabbed from the salsa cart. Waited nearly 10 minutes just to place an order and when I do start to order the cashier stops taking my order to talk to a random customer who walks up. Rude! Overall rating: 4.5 Food: I stay craving the birria and consomé from here! I usually get the Yona Deluxe to get a bit of every style available. Soft and flavorful meat is what makes this so good. The consomé is just the cherry on top so make sure you get one if it doesn't come with your order. If you dine in, you get chips and salsa (salsa/condiment bar at your disposal). Very good salsas to pair with your meal. Another highlight, their michelada! Make sure you try one. You'll love the taste, spicy tamarindo candy straw, and mini taco it's served with. I personally was not too fond of the carne asada (too many fatty pieces for my liking) so I'd definitely stick to the birria. The burrito with birria meat inside was okay nothing stood out but it was a decent burrito. This place is located on state street in a good area. Here in Santa Barbara for the fabulous weekend. This restaurant was conveniently located near our hotel. My hubby was hungry and wanted a burrito. So we decided to come here and order one for him to go. First off it wasn't too crowded. But the prices are pricey but that is to be expected for Santa Barbara on State Street. We placed our order and they gave us small containers so that we can put our hot sauce in. Then we were seated and waited for our to go order.They have a flat screen television that was showing soccer silently as delightful latin music filled the air. WARNING DO NOT WORK WITH Yona Redz Catering. Avoid Yona Redz catering!! These Crooks destroyed all of our careful planning for our special day. There was no bar when guests arrived. No Water on tables, no wine on tables all of which were promised in the contract. We were promised 8 servers and only 3 appeared for 151 people. Food and drink that we paid for never appeared. No wine, the tacos were small and dried out, not what we had been served at our tasting. Yona Redz never responded to us after numerous attempts to try and resolve this or at least get some compensation for their breach of contract, overpriced underdelivered services. Avoid Yona Redz catering, they are crooks! They ruined out wedding day. read more

If you've never tried Birria, you're in for a feat of culinary meat! Birria: Noun. A magical meat stew (of beef, goat or lamb typically) originating in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The meat is marinated in an adobo made of vinegar, dried chiles, garlic, and spices and cooked in broth. For Birria tacos, they heat up the tortilla and dip it in the broth before adding the meat and serving it with onion, cilantro, salsa and lime. The stew is fabled to provide relief for those with a hefty hangover. Located along the fabulous State Street Promenade, the atmosphere at Yona Redz is welcoming, with everything one needs to become an expert in Birria Queso Tacos. (There are many other delectable treats for consumption but I recommend one start with their Birria) Large portions are served in each taco, so two were quite filling. Stopped by for their Tuesday special ($2 birria tacos). Service was quick and friendly. I got two Birria tacos (not used to them coming with soft corn tortillas, but that's alright).
