Outdoor patio, and entrance. Te restaurant is behind Milpas Liquor store.

A real hole in the wall hidden gem, I've been to a fair amount of Mexican restaurants in the Santa Barbara area and as far as tacos go I think this is my new favorite place out here. They use fresh hand made tortillas and really good sauce. When we got here the inside of the restaurant reminded me of the street taco restaurants out Ensenada, they have an outdoor patio with some extra tables and a tv. Inside has about 3 tables and a tv as well. We actually came here on accident, we found the address for the Mexican restaurant next door to Milpas Liquor and once we parked and walked through the back we thought this was the spot. Thankfully it was a happy accident because Milpas Taqueria is way better than the other spot in the front.

This is costillas de puerco en salsa verde que son deliciosas

Milpas Taqueria has been open for 4 months under new mangement and is the best place I have ever been in. It is family friendly and has homemade mexican food that everyone will enjoy. The waiters and cashier are very nice and make sure you have everything you'll need. The service is great and its the best place to go when you have a lunch break and if your in a hurry you can call and order and then come and pick it up.

Food was good....the tacos were very home-y...the hotdog was by far my favorite. Kinda hard to find and even when u do it's def a hole in the wall that your like should we or shouldn't we....glad we took a chance

The atmosphere was lively and casual with such a fun music selection playing in the background while eating. The service was great here as well with each server checking in on us throughout the night. We ordered the following entrees for our first time here, which included the enchilada Guadalajara with both red and green salsa, Sea & Earth Molcajete, and Chile Poblano Campestre. Each dish brought something different to the table and nice to try a variety of things on the menu. The enchilada was rich and savory, with two delicious sauces that brought all the flavors together. The Chile Poblano Campestre was a standout, with the roasted poblano adding a wonderful depth of flavor. The molcajete was another highlight, where each bite was so savory and protein packed. Also, got a bloody orange margarita and margarita picante, which both were strong and good! We finished dinner with the filled churros for dessert! They were the perfect sweet treat to end the meal and a great way to satisfy our dessert cravings after all the savory dishes. Definitely a spot I'd recommend. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu when I visit Santa Barbara again!

This time I went to the Milpas Street location. I was lucky enough to get a parking spot in their small lot, although there was a substantial line inside. The restaurant itself was nice, and I found a good place to sit, so I was hopeful that the food might be better this time. Unfortunately, that's where things went downhill. I ordered the al pastor burrito. Within the first three bites, I encountered large, gristly pieces of pork that I had to spit out. At that point, I opened up the burrito to see exactly what I was eating. It was mostly rice, with some cheese, a little bit of beans, a tiny amount of guacamole, and a relatively small amount of cubed pork. The pork was dry and had no flavor. I kept trying pieces, hoping I would eventually get a decent bite, but the quality was so bad that I eventually gave up. The photo shows what I left on my plate. I barely ate the burrito and actually left still hungry. Even at the $9 Burrito Week price, I felt like I didn't get my money's worth because so little of it was actually edible or enjoyable. This was my final attempt to give Lo Agave another chance. Unfortunately, I have to say this was one of the worst burritos I've ever had. I won't be coming back.

I posted online asking for some recommendations, and a few people recommended Flor De Maiz. We arrived and were seated promptly outdoors, which was our preference. The patio is beautiful! They brought over chips and two delicious salsas. We were very intrigued by the green one, it almost had a cheesy flavor. Both were very good but I think the green was our favorite. I typically try to eat pretty light and healthy at Mexican restaurants but since it was a special occasion, I treated myself to the enchiladas verdes. They were the best enchiladas I've ever had, and they were so big I couldn't finish my meal! The verde sauce was so flavorful and the cheese was also very good. My boyfriend ordered fish tacos and he enjoyed them! We took a bite of each other's food and both loved everything. I'm not huge on rice, but the green rice was good, I only had a few bites though. I'm so sad this restaurant isn't out by us. I will be going back to Santa Barbara in May with my mom, and we are for sure going to eat here! I can't wait to introduce her to it.

That said, the service experience really brought things down. We arrived at 3:00 for our reservation but weren't seated until 3:20. Once we were seated, it took a while to get settled -- some guests in our own party were slow to get moving and had clearly had a lot to drink, so there was a strong smell of alcohol at our table for a bit, which added to the chaos of getting everyone situated. On top of that, the staff seemed overwhelmed the whole time. There was a fiesta event going on, so the whole restaurant was using plastic cups instead of glassware, which felt a little unfestive for a place at this price point. The music was also very loud, which made it even harder to flag anyone down for service. Despite it being clear the staff were short-staffed and stretched thin, no one offered any acknowledgment, apology, or gesture of care for the wait or the overall experience. The food quality (minus the steak) makes me want to come back, but the service needs real improvement, especially during busy events. The steak in particular didn't match its price -- it tasted more like a $35 steak than what we were charged.

The space smelled delicious and the girl taking my order was very nice and patient while I figured out what to get. I ended up getting a carne asada taco and a grilled fish taco. I also got their pomegranate mint drink. They have two rooms. We stayed in the one by the entrance where we ordered as the other room has a step down instead of a ramp. My child was sleeping in his stroller so logistically it made it easier to just stay in the first space. When I first got the items I staired at my Carne asada in confusion as it was just a sad pile of dry looking meat next to a very beautiful fish taco. My tired self didn't see the generous salsa bar filled with wonderful toppings. Alas it was like putting lipstick on a pig, as the meat almost was at jerky level. The fish taco while it looked amazing and the fish was fresh tasting, lacked the flavor explosion I was expecting. I appreciated the taste of the drink I got however it ran a bit sweet for my taste. Overall in an area with an amazing food scene it fell short for me, but at least filled me up.

As soon as we walked in, the woman working the register seemed visibly annoyed that we had come in before closing and rolled her eyes at us. She immediately said, "Umm, we're closing, so you want to take it to go?" We were already planning on taking our food to go, so the attitude felt completely unnecessary. While we were waiting for our order, another customer walked up to ask her a question, and she continued staring down at her phone and completely ignored her. The woman actually had to say, "Excuse me?" just to get her attention. I completely understand wanting to wrap things up at the end of a shift, but if a business is still open, customers shouldn't be made to feel unwelcome for coming in during posted business hours. We specifically chose this place because of the great reviews, so this was a really disappointing first impression.
