my friend and I were driving around on a Friday night, trying to find a spot to study at and we crashed into this place and I'm absolutely grateful I found it. Amazing decorations as it's traditional but with a beachy touch. The workers were very hard-working, quick and kind. Every time I come here, the cooks are always very quick and have a friendly smile as well as the staff. It definitely felt very homie and the food was absolutely amazing. The food is very cheap for the quantity and quality you are receiving. Everything they have is in-house cooked. My friend and I come here all the time to study and this is definitely our favorite Mexican restaurant in Santa Barbara/Goleta.

Great spot! I'll definitely be back to try more options off of their massive selection of menu items. at his time around I got the Enchiladas de Mole: chicken enchiladas blanketed in a sweet chocolate sauce, with guacamole, sour cream, rice, and beans on the side. D E L I C I O U S ! I'm. huge proponent of sweet and savory combinations, and just absolutely loved the balance of flavors in this dish. So good. Honestly I might come back just to order the same thing because WOW. Other than that, the restaurant itself is very homey, decorated beautifully, and has a great family vibe. I knocked off a star because it took over half an hour for my food to come, and the chips I got on the side were a bit stale. Otherwise a great establishment!

We ordered take out because there's only three tables available - two of which are half inside/half outside and the last table of which is completely outside - but with no coverings or heat lamps so make sure you dress warmly. Staff was wearing masks, but sanitizer was no where in sight. Based on Yelp Elite reviews, I ordered the Mojarra Frita: deep fried whole tilapia fish (head and all) - it was indeed yummy, but kinda hard to eat through all the bones. Something you'd expect at a Chinese restaurant instead. The fish didn't seem to have much seasoning, sauce, or accompaniment. There was a small portion of lettuce and even smaller sampling of pico de gallo, regular tasting beans and rice. I meticulously separated the meat and made a couple corn tortilla tacos out of it. Again, good and passable, but not what I was expecting for Santa Barbara region mexican faire. Chile Relleno - usually not a fan, but was pleasantly surprised with this one. Fresh green chiles blends really well with the jack cheese - for a $4.50 appetizer, it's hard to pass up. Chicken Mole - tasted a bite. Good for mole fans, sweet, tart and rich. Chicken on the dry side. Taquitos - didn't get to taste but it sounded crunchy but feedback was only average. Chips and Salsa - the brownish/garnet one is hot. Beware. Chips are too saturated with oil - although still crispy, if that makes sense. Horchata - WAY too sweet - water down with extra ice and you're good.

How nice to have a kitchen right out on the renewed and safer Hollister Ave.

Responding to the Goleta #OpenForBusiness campaign, I'm trying to focus all of my eating and shopping in my beloved Old Town, Goleta. This project is already presenting a challenge in that I want to keep coming back to the same places because they are so good. What draws me back to Altamiranos is the outdoor Taco and Quesadilla kitchen. Just last night, I walked across the street from the City-led event and ordered three tacos and a 22 oz (!!) beer. The tacos are great by themselves... AND....they have a wonderful salsa bar that includes fresh onions, cilantro, many types of salsa, and fresh cut limes. Everything is neat and fresh. Due to #ProjectConnect, I expect traffic to move more efficiently but more calmly through this corridor, I hope you notice the nice arches and the taco grill and then find one of the new parking spots to give this wonderful place a go. I'll probably see you there.

I enjoy supporting small family owned businesses and was craving some fried whole fish (bones still inside = more flavor!) and saw that they offered fried tilapia per other Yelpers' photos. The dish was "Mojarra Frita" and came with a really large fried tilapia, seasoned with salt. A side of beans and cotija cheese on top, some pico de gallo and cabbage, a side of Spanish rice, and two limes. Price was $13.50 which was very fair for the amount of food and size of the fish! They also provided us complimentary chips and salsa and I love how the chips were freshly fried. We enjoyed the meal with a M Special - Sabado Tarde (tangerine ale) as a refreshment. It took a while to eat - but we were able to finish and leave really full. Overall would come back for this dish as the value, price, and taste, were all worth it! I don't see any other places offering this type of dish when scrolling through options in the SB area. The employee was very nice as well and the store was practicing social distancing during this time. It's the first restaurant in 3 months that I've physically sat in.

Highly authentic Mexican food, very warm atmosphere; quick service, reasonable prices. (But I just can't go up to 4 stars for a traditional Mexican cantina,....there are so many of them)

We initially ordered the alambre and was going to order more food at Santa Barbara food company, but they were closed. So after trying the alambre we thought it was really good and decided to try round 2 the next day. We ordered (Togo): 5. Enchiladas Rancheras, 4. Taco Altamirano, 5. Sopes, 30. Campechana, 2. Beef Alambre, 3. Soft Tacos, 10. Nachos with Meat. The enchiladas were ok, and I probably wouldn't order it again. It didn't have much sauce on it. The taco altamirano and beef alambre was good and flavorful. Was nice and cheesy, with a good amount of meat. The sopas were good but occasionally I tasted something that tasted off. I liked how it has sour cream, guacamole and the meat tasted like it was stewed. The campechana was warm when we got home so we stuck in the fridge for a while. The sauce tasted like v8. There were a good amount of shrimp, octopus and avacado. The soft taco and nachos were the wife's order so I'll let her comment on it.

This was my first time eating here and I really enjoyed it. First, the service was fantastic. There was one gentleman in the front doing all the service on a Monday afternoon. He was quick, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. As for food, everyone gets a bowl of chips start with for free and we even got a refill. There were 5 different types of salsas that you can scoop yourself. We ordered the nachos with carne asada and beef sopes. The portion sizes were fairly large for the price (especially considering Santa Barbara prices). The nacho chips were crispy and the carne asada was flavorful. The sopes were a little on the study side, but they were jam packed with toppings (meat, guac, beans, lettuce, cheese, etc). Overall, the food itself was nothing amazing, but all the simple ingredients were done well and really tasty. It felt like eating a nice home cooked meal! My only (small) complaint would be that the tables are super sticky that it kind of colored the entire experience. But otherwise, the entire restaurant was well kept and clean.

Veggie burrito and gorditos de frijoles y queso-both good
    Julia T.

This place has great food! It has lots of indoor seating and I had no problem finding street parking on a weeknight. Service is very friendly, and I think they might have given us complimentary horchata. Tried the gorditos de frijoles y queso, the chilaquiles, and the veggie burrito. All were delicious, the gorditos was nice and crispy around the edge, the chilaquiles had a really flavorful sauce, and the veggie burrito was pretty standard, but good. One negative, we saw a little cockroach on the booth while we were sitting there, but not a huge deal to me. Reasonably priced food and good portions. It seems like a nice local spot, and I would come back here if I were staying in the area.

The worst fajitas I have ever eaten.
    Celi R.

Literally the worst fajitas I have ever eaten. I am shocked at how awful the food here is. The fajita meat was so overcooked and tough that it was inedible. My husband's enchiladas were also awful. Undercooked, dry, and horrible flavor. This place is shocking bad. I honestly can't understand the good reviews.

I came here for dinner and got the mole enchiladas, camarones a La Diabla, and some cabeza tacos. Everything was so tasty and amazing! The mole enchiladas & camarones a La diabla came with rice and beans. Both were filling and flavorful. The shrimp was soaked in spicy sauce with actually had a good little spicy kick. The cabeza tacos were juicy and good. I usually get these tacos for my dog as well and he loved the meat. Definitely coming back here!

The line always moves fast and the food comes out quickly too. What compelled me to write this review was because I had a delicious pescado a la diabla, which was a daily special. The fish was a huge portion -- a whole filet with a delicious spicy sauce, perfectly cooked and flaky. The rice and beans are always great, perfectly seasoned and cooked. I also had a passionfruit margarita which was big and well balanced. The salsa bar is very good; the habanero salsa is really tasty but their old version without cream was one of the best salsa I ever had and I'm so sad they don't offer it anymore. It was legitimately spicy. I always love coming here with my friends after a movie so we can discuss the flick over some great mexican food.
