This hole in the wall in the middle of Old Town Goleta has a great carnitas burrito. The carnitas is as good as the carnitas Rubio's used to have. At this point in my food journey, that's worth 5 stars. And it's not one of those half beans burritos. It does have some high quality beans, but also a small medley of well-seasoned veggie type ingredients. There is also no need to even consider the jumbo unless you brought a wagon to wheel that thing home - and you probably want to eat it at home or Goleta Beach because there isn't any seating thanks to Covid. Even when the dining room was open, it never seemed like there were that many people in there. That said, the couple who runs the place is very nice, the prices are downright cheap, and if you haven't heard, they have a great carnitas burrito. read more

Came here for the first time today and I'm sorry to say I won't be coming back! I ordered carne asada nachos. Who serves nachos with no beans?? I told the lady had I known my nachos didn't come with beans then I would have asked for them. She kindly gave me a small bowl of beans on the side but they weren't refried or smashed more like straight from a can! True Mexicans like me love beans come on now. My friend also ordered nachos and she asked him if he wanted rice on his nachos, we both thought that was kinda weird and she didn't even ask if I wanted any rice but that was ok because I've never had nachos with rice either. The menu is average with your staple Mexican dishes such as burritos, tacos, and enchiladas but it is affordable. The food here is very mediocre and there's nothing special about it. I'm sure anyone could have whipped up a better dish at home! Save your money and go to one of the other places next door. read more

I loved this place so much the first time I went I decided to come back again (within a week). I got really excited when I saw a sign in the window that said Chile Rellenos (my favorite) but when I asked about them the lady said they were out. I was disappointed because it was only noon, how could they be out. At any rate, I ordered a tostada with carnitas again which was just as yummy as the first time. I also ordered a taco with Al Pastor. This is not my usual choice of meat but I have to say it was absolutely delicious!! It was so good I had to get a 2nd one. This is definitely going to be one of my lunch spots. Only drawback is parking. Both times had to park a block away. I should probably ask if there is any parking in the back. read more

Well, hello there! I am back on my tour of Old Town Goleta taquerias. Del Valle Grill has a very unassuming facade. In fact, there's currently no signage at all. But it's right out there on Hollister, and Old Town is not big. Inside is bright and tidy. Order at the counter, serve your own free chips and salsa and they'll bring the food out to you. Tacos are $1.85 each. I got al pastor. For $5.85, my friend got the two taco platter, with shrimp. Getting shrimp over other fillings did not seem to affect the price. Beans are not refried, they are simply cooked pinto beans. The food was simple and unpretentious. We enjoyed it a lot. My ceviche tostada was not overwhelmed with citric acid. In fact, it had a very smooth and creamy taste, from the ample slices of avocado and the thin layer of mayonnaise over the tostada shell. Not too drippy either. $3.00 for the tostada. My taco was inexpensive and the filling was sufficient. I did not have to pick off half the meat in order to roll it and get it in my mouth. I did not feel like my gut had been busted. We were both happy and our meals were about $5 each. Ambience is rather stark and the woman behind the counter was super friendly. Just come here for the food. My husband and I walked to old town to eat at a local restaurant. The one where we planned to eat, was closed when we arrived so we walked on a few blocks peaking in at other places to eat. Then we came to Del Valle Grill. The outside sidewalk was cleaner than any of the others we passed by, the windows and glass door were clean and the tables and chairs were spaced apart and everything looked inviting. They have a nice patio outside too. When we walked up to the counter to order, my husband said we should order to take home. When we got home, several blocks away, we sat down to eat and were delighted that the tacos and beans were still hot and very delicious. Great, casual restaurant, reasonably priced Mexican food favorites in good'ole Old Town Goleta. This is one of our favorite Goodland local spots. Bottom Line: in a word - legit Im always looking for a place I havent been before and I saw this place on the map and realized that I probably walked past this place maybe 100 times and never stopped in for food. I saw a pic of their Fajita burrito and I was sold. Walked over there for my lunch break and ordered one. Free chips and yummy pico? Yes thank you. Came to this place because my kids wanted tacos and we're not from the area so just happened to drive by and decided to stop. price wasn't bad, food was decent only problem was right after we finished eating, like literally took my last bite that I look on the floor and see a ROACH walking across the floor, I pointed it out to the cashier and she went over stepped on it wiped it up and told me it's from the place next door. Well if you know anything about roaches is that if there's one there's more and sharing a wall with another place that has them means you have them too. There is a home-y feel to this place. The owners are very friendly and are diligent about asking whether or not you'd like something else to make your dish taste even more delicious. The Diablo Shrimp are suuuuuper good and their guac is up to standard. The only downside to this little place is their carne asada. My mother loves carne asada and by going there with two other family members craving the same thing was setting the standard high. They use very thin meat--not the typical Ranchera carne-- and it makes it less filling and flavorful. Aside from that, it's a good place to get authentic Mexican food by humble people while still maintaining your budget. read more

Definitely tied with Lilly's Taqueria as THE taco spot on my list in the Goleta area. I usually go here for lunch with my coworkers since it's only a 5-minute drive away from our office. Parking can get scarce during the day so be prepared to park on the street or in the tight alley in the back. Since Lilly's doesn't serve carnitas tacos, I always get them here with rice and beans. The tacos come with onions, cilantro, and salsa verde, but I ask for extra onions only because I like my tacos with a lot of onions. The rice and beans are nothing spectacular, but they're solid and help keep me full until the end of the work day. I've had their ceviche tostada too, and I would recommend them to someone who's eating here for the first time, but I wouldn't get it every time. They also have horchata and cantaloupe/melon agua fresca available, which really hit the spot on a hot day. If you're in the Goleta area and craving carnitas tacos and some horchata, go here! Let me start be saying I'm a vegetarian. And a serous bean and cheese burrito seeker. I got the cheese enchiladas. The beans were whole not refried. The rice was watery and flavorless. I hate to say it, but being in this part of town reminds me of being back at home in the East Bay, more specifically, New-aaark! oh yeah. Flat top houses and people walking around outside chilling, even more so, the hole in the wall mexican place. Although it's pretty "hole-in-the-wall" it was a pretty clean "h-i-t-w" place. The food was good, even better than (*gasp!) Los Gallos in Newark! We ordered: the 2 taco plate with grilled chicken, 1 wet super chicken burrito and 2 horchata drinks. Total was $18.35 with tip. There is a self serve chip and salsa bar. We ate there and watched some futbol on fox en espagnol en vivo! The service was nice and the food authentic, cept they don't serve refried beans, they serve boiled pintos which isn't too bad. I would def. go back when i feel some homesickness coming on... I got the giant meat quesadilla and it was great! You can choose a kind of meat out of a big list with all the same price. Good combination of guac, sour cream and just a right amount of cheese. With the warm SB weather, I'm always craving seafood. I was thinking of going to the Goleta Sushi house, but saw that this place has ceviche so I went in. It's pretty good! The ceviche felt fresh. Sadly they changed the recipe during the year and while they're less buttery and delicious, they're probably healthier (boo). There's not that typical flavor explosion in your mouth like you'd expect when eating Mexican food, but it was good enough to satisfy my taste buds! I was not a fan at all of their verde salsa... Way too watered down and overly lemony 'cause I didn't taste a single tomatillo pepper in it. I appreciated the free chips and the rojo salsa was good with the perfect amount of spice. For the price, there's not much to fret about!
