Hubby was craving tacos so stopped at Lilly's, on our way home from Solvang, based on some trusty yelp reviews. Located in a plaza so parking was easy and restaurant easy to find. Menu was really easy, no crazy amount of options - just tacos and you pick the meat. I ordered carne asada tacos and hubby got pork tacos. Tacos had a ton of meat, not fatty and there were many salsa options which were really good. You have to pay extra for grilled onions and jalapeño but it was worth it because it was such a great compliment to the tacos. They serve one item - small street tacos. The taco's come with a basic small corn tortilla, and it's on you to top it at their bar which basically only includes cilantro, onions, radish, and 3 choices of hot sauce. If that's what you want, you're in luck, but they were a bit expensive for what you received, and I'd rather have a fat flour tortilla burrito or authentic crunchy taco with cheese. Stopped by on the way up north at 2pm and it was packed. Extra bonus was they had tv's and they had the World Cup game on. Food is served quickly, because they already have some meat cooked on the grill. However, the con to this is that my meat often tends to be a bit dry from sitting out on the grill longer than needed and just getting slightly overcooked. We were in the SB area when a local who claimed to be from the area for over 25 years said we HAD to go try Lilly's Tacos. We took that seriously and made it our dinner plans right after lol. There were 2 locations in the area, we opted for the Goleta once since it was more convenient for our plans. Upon arriving (Saturday around dinner), there was a line out the door! The line moves QUICKLY and ordering was a breeze. I only had their tacos, and tried a few of their meats: the tripe, asada, adobada, and lengua. All of the meats were packed with the flavor and the tacos weren't too soggy even after getting them for takeout / a long car ride. The tripe and asada were okay IMO, I probably wouldn't order them again since they were a bit dried out. The reeeeal star of the show to me was the lengua. SO delicious and tender! I'd go back just for the lengua. We had a large party and order and our tacos still came out probably within 10 minutes or less which was impressive. I'd definitely recommend! My go to is the lengua and the tripas which they only have in Fridays and the weekend. There is always a huge line at lunch so get there early or off peak hours. A server from a restaurant recommended this place and well here we go. It was a pretty big space with lots of tables and the concept is easy and fast. You order Tacos and then enjoy the Tacos. Their meat selection is great and right after you order you get them like 2 min after they call out your number. They have a small space to serve yourself salsa, radishes and cilantro and onions. Their salsas are very flavorful and they have a kick so taste before you add to your tacos. Their best meat for me was their Lengua my goodness prolly the best I've ever had. Their asada was great as well. Over all amazing tacos and when we come back to this area we def have to come back but if you're in the area I def recommend this place. This is the place for tacos. It is the absolute best for Tripas and Lengua. It has a big open cafeteria-style seating and a big taco bar in the center with salsas and onions, radishes, and Limes. The line was pretty long when I got there but the service was super quick. Staff was really kind and everyone smiled at me which was super sweet. Took literally 5 minutes for me to get to the front of the line, and only another 5 to get my food! FLAVOR: I got 2 asada and 2 adobada tacos. So delicious! The asada was very flavorful and tender. I would say it was just slightly dry but the toppings made it perfect. The adobada was the star of this meal though. Super delicious and full of umami flavor! The meat was juicy and wasn't too salty. Lilly's has a topping bar with chopped onions and cilantro, limes, radishes, and 3 salsas. I tried all three salsas and covered my tacos with cilantro and onions, there's no other way! My fav salsa was the spicy one (second hottest.) it was slightly chunky and had a nice heat and flavor. I recommend adding lime especially to the adobada. Coming from the Bay Area, I have a set expectation on what I want in my tacos. Mission District never misses! Lilly's was definitely tasty and I think everyone should stop by!
