    Alambre de Camaron

If you're looking for that hole in the wall Mexican restaurant, then look no further! El Zarape is the place to dine at if you're craving abuelita's home style cooked food. They offer daily specials such as caldo de res or pollo, mole rojo de pollo, menudo, pozole rojo, Carne de puerco and much more that are ready to serve. Each day is different though, so be sure to check out their IG Page: el_zarape_sb On my most recent visit I had their chicken enchiladas. I wasn't expecting 4 enchiladas, but I was happy to get my money's worth! I paid around $12 for my meal and that is a deal compared to other places in town. I was a little disappointed though with the lack of chicken inside the enchiladas. Despite that issue, they were still good. The nachos are a must here! You get a very generous serving and they are delicious. The tacos are piled with meat or seafood depending on your preference and everything is made to order. My son enjoyed his shrimp alambres. They are cooked with red and green bell peppers, onion and cheese. Now for the bad news! They have no salsa bar nor do they offer a decent tasting salsa or variety for that matter. I find this to be very odd for a Mexican restaurant that serves up good food! There is a very watered down salsa that looks like a pinkish juice and the other is too spicy. I had to go across the street to Super Cucas to get their salsa because they didn't have any on the day I came here. How bizarre! Overall, the food is great here and the prices are reasonable, but you might just need to bring your own salsa if you can't live without it lol.

This was some pretty amazing Mexican food. You know I had to get my favorite carne asada tacos and they just so happened to be cooked just the way I like. These tacos are currently ranking in the top 3 best tacos I've ever eaten. The chile verde also happened to be top notch. If I were to choose between the fancy Mexican outdoor patio restaurant down the street and this little hole in the wall, I would choose El Zarape all day!

    Cockroaches

Don't go to this nasty place!!! It got me sick the time I ate there. You'll see cockroaches running around. You can see employees in the back placing containers with food right on their very dirty floor in the back. The place and equipment are very old and one of the workers there mentioned that the owner is very cheap. I contacted the city and this shit got inspected and the city inspector notified me that they did find cockroaches. The only reason they even get one star is because there's no other option. Stay away from this shithole!! If you want good authentic Mexican food there are much better tasting options and super clean like Taqueria Cuernavaca and Taqueria Santa Barbara.

    2 asada 1 al pastor

I'm happy to have found this place. There are so many places in SB to get tacos and I'm still looking for my go-to place. I ordered 2 asada and 1 al pastor. Not bad. I would come back. I loved how affordable and simple the tacos were. The only downside is that it was my first time so I guess I thought they'd put some salsa, a lime slice, napkins in the to-go bag but they didn't. I got home and realized they didn't provide any of that so I'm bummed about that. Lesson learned, though. Will definitely ask next time for salsa and lime or they could've instructed me to visit their salsa bar if they had one.

    Pasilla Breakfast Burrito Week Special
    Jema H.

I had the Pasilla Breakfast Burrito (special for burrito week) and thought it was pretty good although a little on the plain side flavor wise. But, they have some decently spicy and tasty salsa that took care of that and I am satisfied for sure. It was quite hearty too as I had more than half left for a second breakfast in a few hours. And, it seemed like the ingredients were fresh and I was left feeling great and satisfied. I will be back for sure to try some other menu items and update.

Los Agaves On De Lavina St. -- A Rare Review from Someone Who Hates Writing Reviews…read moreI spent 25 years owning a business. I know what good service looks like, and I know what entitled looks like. I never write reviews -- I watched Yelp destroy good people over bad nights, and I swore I'd stay out of it. Tonight changed that. I sat at the bar. It took the bartender over five minutes to acknowledge I existed. Another five to ten to deliver a Coke. I ordered dinner and waited forty minutes -- which I might have forgiven, except getting his attention was nearly impossible the entire night. No eye contact. Body language that made clear I was an inconvenience, not a guest. Every interaction felt like I was interrupting something more important. When I finally got him to check on my order, he went to the computer and discovered he'd never placed it. I walked out. I noticed the people around me weren't faring much better. The slowness wasn't just my experience -- it was the room. Los Agaves appears to be a popular place, and maybe on another night with another bartender it earns that reputation. But entitlement has a way of spreading when nobody checks it. I hope management is paying attention -- because a beautiful restaurant dies one invisible guest at a time.

There was a line of people waiting. Took us a little over 30 minutes from getting in line, to ordering and receiving the food later. CASH ONLY. Their specials menu seems to change every day or so. We ordered a taco de hongo (sautéed mushrooms with epazote in a light cream sauce w/ 2 homemade corn tortillas), enchiladas de plaza (chicken breast, potato mushroom, red chile sauce, topped with cheese, chile pasilla strips, cream sauce, avocado and radish), a tamal norteño de puerco (pork tamal), #16 súper-rica especial (pork on 3 tortillas, a modelo, and a piña pepino agua fresca. All for around $63 without tip. They had a tomato salsa, salsa rojo, and salsa verde options. All were delicious. All of the food was excellent and super flavorful. I would say my favorite was definitely the tamal. So savory and the masa was the perfect texture. The pork tacos and mushroom taco were close behind, also delicious. The enchiladas were my least favorite. Still good but I just don't think I can be an enchiladas fan no matter how hard I try!! I just am not a fan of the texture of the tortillas when sauced up. Nevertheless, everything was finished up and nothing left behind. The agua fresca was also super good and refreshing. Very sweet and a little thick so we thinned it out a bit with some water. They have limited outdoor seating but a lot inside. A single bathroom right by the parking lot entrance. Nice and cute spot with hard workers. Would definitely come again!

I can't speak to the other menu items, but I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, the Gambas al Ajillo. The prawns were cooked perfectly, and they came with a couple of crusty pieces of bread that were ideal for soaking up the delicious sauce. Despite how much I enjoyed it, the portion was small, and I didn't feel full afterward. I paired my meal with two small glasses of wine, which were also overpriced, though the wines themselves were excellent. I appreciated the opportunity to sample a few varieties before making my selection. The service was outstanding. My waiter was attentive and brought both my food and drinks promptly, so I never had to wait long. Overall, while the food and service were very good, I believe I could find similar dishes elsewhere at a better value. I'm also not particularly fond of the location. He gave us some great advice on what to order and we enjoyed every bit of it! There was also another gentleman that brought out the umbrella for us since it was getting sunny. We had a couple workers walk by without asking, but he was so kind enough to make us comfortable. The drinks we ordered were so refreshing. We ordered the Costa Blanca, De Aqui, and the Bengala de Granada. The drinks were so crisp that it almost felt like a palette cleanser. The yellowtail crudo was perfectly balanced between sweet and citrusy. The oysters looked spicy but were pleasantly mild! The octopus was tender and soft. The paella was flavorful and nicely garlicky. Loquita is small and cute. It's a little packed inside once it gets busy, so it was a relief we got seated outside.
