This place is a local favorite. The montecito location is on the corner of Salinas and Cacque right by the liquor mart. My friend and I split the chorizo breakfast burrito on a Sunday morning. There wasn't a line and it was prepared fresh to order quickly. It was huge so glad we split it! It comes with refried beans fyi. The flavors were delicious and authentic, my other friend got two carne asada tacos. She also really enjoyed them, had lots of onions and cilantro. Staff was super nice. This is a simple, small restaurant at one end of a two-business "strip mall." They have a range of menu selections but mostly they seem to specialize in burritos/tortas and street (soft) tacos. If you want a "typical" Mexican combination, with sides of rice and/or beans you can add them as side orders. For dinner, we tried the Nachos and the Brocheta de Pollo (grilled chicken with bell peppers, onion and mushrooms). VERY good! Next time, I would order an extra set of four warm corn tortillas with the Pollo--they're a perfect match. The Nachos are impressive. It's a large serving--enough for 3-4 people. They use chopped carne asada steak. Then they load-on fresh pico de gallo, cheese, sour cream and lots of sliced avocado. For breakfast, we tried the chorizo, potato and egg burrito. They specifically call-out that they add beans, which is a little unusual for a gringo like me. I figured, "When in Rome . . ." The burrito was good, not great. The beans don't work as well for me and their chorizo is kind of bland. So the next day, we asked for no beans and extra potatoes. To add some creaminess, we got a side order of sour cream. We got the Chorizo burrito again--and the Bacon, potato and egg (more like Canadian bacon). The Bacon burrito had more flavor. That's a keeper for us. They provide salsas and pico de gallo (super-fresh) at a salsa bar. Nice counter staff and a nice little outdoor patio dining area. No indoor seating. read more

Returned to El Sitio after years of not going there, since last time I saw them kick out a homeless man who was PAID for his food, was clean, and not bothering anyone. Anyways, I stopped by today and got an asada burrito to go, when I got opened the burrito there was a hair literally in the middle of it, I thought that maybe was mine (burrito smelled pretty darn good) and decided to take a bite, then I saw a SECOND hair! I was so disgusted, I opened the entire burrito and found More hair. A burrito is severely overpriced almost at $13 when all it is just meat, rice and beans. After paying I told them no rice, I'd prefer grilled onion inside my burrito as a substitute and I was told it would cost extra, so I angrily said I wasn't going to pay more for their already overpriced expensive burrito. I was asked if I still didn't want rice and I asked them if it cost less if I get it without rice? They said no, so I told them to keep the rice in my burrito since I was going to be charged for it no matter what. Solid. It's located in the heart of a very Mexican part of Santa Barbara. Being from Santa Maria, this area reminds me of home. It truly is a hole-in-the-wall kind of place and yes I don't think they speak a whole lot of English but that's ok. It's Mexican food and that's probably more of an encouraging sign if anything. Place is busy at lunch with tradesmen getting to-go orders. Very few gringos here, a good sign. Takes a few minutes to get the food, but it's fresh and hot! Yeah, some of the help does not speak English. But look where you are, this is the Latino side of town. Use your Spanglish and figure it out. There are only 6 plastic tables, 3 inside and 3 outside, this is a true hole in the wall that does mostly take-out. Cash-n-carry. Calling in a to-go order? Ain't gonna happen. It's prob not quite as "gourmet" as some of the competition and definitely not fancy, but the food is very very tasty. I think they have settled into a COVID groove of food to go, even if you eat it there. They have several locations throughout southern SB county and every one of them are always consistently good. Consider splitting it - or not because you will want to eat the whole thing. Great green chili pork verde with rice and beans. Tender pork and just the right amount of heat. Although I would eliminate the rice next time - just a personal choice. They have a small salsa bar with red and green salsas and pico de gallo. Small simple place that seems to cater to burritos, tortas and tacos in a variety of meats - you name it, they got it. This monster was about $6.50 and worth every penny.
