I'm not really a brewery guy (although kudos to ALL our local breweries for, well, brewing locally). But I find myself happily returning here for live music on Sundays, particularly the Zydeco Zippers (Cajun) (historical fact: I saw them at their first public performance, way back in the 1980s) and Kalinka (klezmer). Nice atmosphere: old brick building with that brewing-of-beer fragrance. Long tree-plank tables within, or sidewalk/patio tables for observing passing humanity without. Smiling staff. Stopped in on a Friday afternoon as a treat for a long morning of walking the entire length of State Street. Hubby was looking for a local brewery and so glad we found this one. Bartender was friendly and nice to talk to. He shared a couple of the experimental beers with us and as a non-beer drinker, I was impressed with the flavor profiles. Hubby enjoyed the beer he had as well. They seem to know what they are doing! Conveniently located on the main State St drag, this brewery is worth your time to swing into. Great décor vibe and dog friendly - there was a happy doggo sunning himself under a skylight which brought a smile to my face and instantly put me in relax mode. A fire pit, live music, delicious beer, and sales that support an eco-friendly, sustainable cause? Fantastic! This was the line on loop in my head a few nights ago at Night Lizard. After several visits to this State Street brewery, I can easily say it's one of my tops. Staff are friendly, beers are tasty, and the vibe--whether sitting indoors or out--is neat. Gotta love all those hanging plants. Among beers tried are the Gnatcatcher IPA, Tiger Salamander Saison, and Monkeyflower Double White Ale. All are solid brews. I have yet to sample the food menu from Yona Redz, but look forward to it. There's usually room to sit on the outdoor patio, a Covid-safer option that offers great people-watching. I love holding a tulip glass of a tasty beverage, seeing folks passing by and eying the place. Thinking at them 'yes, you do want to stop here!' I smile a bit when someone does. read more

Was walking on State street in downtown SB and came across this place that advertised $5 beers to celebrate the independent brewer's 5-year anniversary! I got their seltzer and it was surprisingly pleasant! It was definitely on the sweeter side (think fruit-like sweetness) but it wasn't overbearingly sweet. I thought it was a well balanced seltzer and something I recommend if you're into that style. read more

Where do I start... okay. So. They claim to be the only brewery in SB, but at the end of the day no one cares where the shit is made. Get me drunk, make me swallow, and get my taste buds tingling.... It's not science. The bartenders were hot low key but they wore these dirty shirts and (BASKETBALL SHORTS!)??? No " dprint"??? Vile. The beer was great actually and they had amazing service! They're very charitable and so kind. The quality of the drinks and level of service was Micheline. However... basketball shorts? No! I smelt that thang and it was nasty. Good guys and nice place. Stopped in here before dinner, husband had a Hazy IPA and I had their hard kombucha. My drink was delicious and beautiful! Loved the black tea flavor. Loved the look inside, tons of greenery and a dimly lit tasting room. Lots of seating indoors and outdoors, we took a table on their shaded patio, a perfect place for people watching. Good beers and kid-friendly! I couldn't ask for more. They have solid IPA's (my favorite), but something for everyone (my husband likes stouts/porters). They also had some really interesting experimental beers and mixes, which I would probably get around to trying if I lived nearby and could come again. They have a big selection of games and books. Although we couldn't sit inside due to the times it looked nice. Nicely lighted, brick lined walls, various seating, and with a high ceiling. I did a sampler with four beers for a great price. All were great! The lager and the ale were my favorites of the four. We came here twice during our Santa Barbara getaway in early October. I'm an IPA fan, and I found their Live Forever IPA to be most excellent -- it just had the perfect balance of flavors to me. I also had a pint of their their Gnatcatcher hazy IPA, which I thoroughly enjoyed as well....but for me the Live Forever was my fave. My wife is a lager fan, and said their Night Lizard Lager is probably the best lager she's ever had....and she ain't no rookie when it comes to lagers. Everyone who worked there was uber friendly. A good spot for people watching if you sit outside. And if you sit inside, they had a gargantuan TV playing football. As for the Covid setup, they did a FANTASTIC job. They basically have four areas. Inside they have a designated social distanced area for ordering, with a separate one-person table in the corner that one can have a sample of a beer if they can't decide between a couple of them. The second area is the their indoor seating area: all the tables are very well spaced apart, and there is plenty of airflow through there as well. Third spot is a covered patio with tables spaced well apart from one another. Then, on the other side of the sidewalk they have built a temporary patio on State Street itself (this portion of State St is closed to vehicles during Covid to give restaurants room to expand outdoor seating); the tables here had umbrellas to provide shade, and they were well spaced apart. You have to buy food during covid (CA regulations), but a single taco split between the two of us for $4 was enough to satisfy the California regulation. read more

Pretty good beers with a great environment inside the brewery. They have a little bit for everyone inside and it's not over done. They have a few TVs for sports fans, bar seating, high chair group seating for people to play board games, and even lounge area seating. The have a good variety of beers, the s'mores stouts was my favorite. They have a food menu from a near by restaurant that they take orders for. Stopped in for a couple beers early one week, along with my toddler and pregnant wife. The staff were friendly and helpful. I liked the outdoorsy vibe. My wife and I were staying in Carpinteria for the month of January in 2022 and we took the 20 minute bus ride up to Santa Barbara and we had one last beer before we went back home. I ordered an IPA and the bartender was super nice and we took our beer and enjoyed it out on the State Street Patio. It was great absorbing the Vitamin D after being from Minnesota and I ordered a second IPA and they were both solid beers. We used their clean restrooms before we left and were glad we visited.
