Crab Cake burger
Kristina M.

Love the ambiance inside and out - love music on the outdoor patio area, pink walls with delicate decor and antique art on the inside; and the pastries looked so delicious that I'll definitely need to come back for more. Loved my crab cake burger special and tasting the smoked salmon breakfast. A very nice brunch spot that I would take my parents or someone visiting from out of town. One day I'll make it for the 2:30 Happy Hour

I am glad we stopped by Andersen's during our last visit in Santa Barbara. We were looking around for some afternoon coffee and pastries so we popped in! The selection of pastries was impressive, full of holiday festive decor, Danish specialties, hard to decide. Lots of Kringle variety: raspberry, marzipan, cinnamon, cranberry and so on. Cute X-mas cookies, an amazing looking apple strudel, cinnamon buns, cinnamon custard pastries, marzipan ones. Hard to decide. The young nice lady behind the counter offered us sample from their cinnamon custard pastries and she convinced us, they were that good. We also opted for a slice of marzipan pastry slice and got 2 Macchiato-s. It was nice to sit outside and enjoy the State Street life on a sunny December afternoon while listening to a street artist playing a Spanish tune on his guitar. The cinnamon custard pastry was rich, full of flavors, lost of cinnamon, outstanding! Service was very nice and attentive, staff was young, pleasant, kind, well trained. We had such a nice experience that we stopped by again next morning for breakfast. We went with the cinnamon custard pastry again (it was that good) and tried their Grandma's cinnamon roll Kringle which is really nice, has that Old World look and flavor, some dessert that your grandma could have made for you back in the day, homey with lots of good ingredients. Tried their cappuccino-s with 2 espresso shots and they were decent. We wish they would make coffee-s in bigger cups, but that's a tiny complaint. Nice breakfast place. Water from the house (there's a jug inside and cups), clean restrooms. Great place to eat at and buy some nice holiday pastries to go! I am glad we tried Andersen's again and had better experiences. It's a SB institution so I am glad I can update and upgrade my review for the better!

This is a very cute danish bakery. I liked that it feels like home when you are there. The servers were very nice and friendly. I really really enjoyed the grilled salmon omelet. Inside it had grilled salmon bites, spinach, onions, and tomatos. It really hit the spot. The pastries were also good. I liked the chocolate Carmel cake!!

We loved the cozy, truly family-run feel of The Andersen in Santa Barbara. The service was warm, and the place has a charming local vibe. We ordered from the happy hour menu the crab cakes and the vegetarian puff pastry, both beautifully presented. One small note: the flavors were surprisingly sweet, almost as if someone mixed up salt with sugar in the kitchen. It made the dishes a bit dessert-like when we weren't expecting it! Still, the experience was pleasant overall, and we appreciate the care the family puts into their restaurant.

Crab cake Benedict

The crab cake was actually super yummy!! It was super well seasoned, the crab tasted fresh and there was a decent amount inside. And there wasn't any over powering fishy taste that is sometimes present in crab cakes. The biscuits threw me off though because they are very crispy and fried and flaky, which would be great if you want a slightly sweet flaky biscuit like that but I prefer a softer biscuit or just an English muffin with mine. It's super cute inside, looks like an old time doll house for tea and pastries. Service was fine its order at the front a then they bring it to your table. No complaints there. Overall pretty good!

Outdoor seating is nice! Service was ok! Food was delicious

Lovely little bakery in Santa Barbara!! Anything on the menu is delicious! Must try the "Sarah Bernhardt's"!!!!

The Andersen on State Street in Santa Barbara is a cute Danish bakery-café. Sandwiches, soups, and salads are popular on the menu. The restaurant is very casual, on a cozy tree lined pedestrian only street -so the restaurant tends to be quiet even on the street. The service is really nice and the restaurant owner is super sweet and kind. I ordered the burger. It was really delicious. It was graduation weekend in SB so I can understand why the food took a little bit to come out the restaurant owner gave us a bunch of the pastries that didn't so earlier that morning. Overall, it was really great dining experience.

Egg Benedict Napoleon
Mai Sweet C.

Egg Benedict Napoleon - perfect creamy hollandaise sauce win poached eggs and ham, on top of a flaky muffin, abs side of roasted and well seasoned potatoes. The Andersen's croissant French Toast was soft on the outside and slight crunchy insides. Not too sweet. Tentative service. Relaxing and low key hangout place.'

The best strudel in Santa Barbara!!! This is one of my stops whenever I'm craving a delicious apple strudel!! I've even brought these in to work...and within minutes they're gone!! Andersen's Bakery has been around for decades...I'm a fan of this place and I'm pretty sure you'll be too! The ambiance is great...with many places to sit! I recommend sitting outside and enjoying your pastry over some coffee!

More pastries!

Stopped by for a brunch/snack as it looked so good when we walked by. There's a bunch of pastries in the case on the left when you walk in, and you can place your order at the counter before you find a seat inside or out. We ordered the Santa Barbara Croissant Sandwich (subbed turkey for ham) and a slice of pumpkin Kringle. My friend also ordered a house coffee. The service here stresses me out, and I don't even work there. The lady who I assume is the owner just seems so confused all the time. She was putting my order in the computer and I saw that she was charging me for a vanilla latte when I told her multiple times that I ordered a house coffee. Just watching her interactions with the staff stressed me out too. She told me that they were short handed that day, which probably explained why she seemed so all over the place, and that it would take a while for the food to come out, but it all came out pretty quick. The croissant sandwich was really good, but the potatoes it came with looked really seasoned, but were bland and needed salt. The pumpkin Kringle was great, and I think they are known for their Kringle as several customers were walking out with whole Kringles to go. Enjoy the food, but don't expect good service here.

Cute place! The nice tall young man with short hair offered us a pastry sample when we walked by. I told him that he reeled us in because we were trying to decide where to eat. As someone who grew up in SB, I don't know how I hadn't been here yet! The blonde girl with a ponytail and bangs taking orders inside was really nice too. We will be back. Cute tables outside to people watch. I saw SO many cute dogs walking by

High tea
Jessica O.

I booked the high tea for a party of 4 via telephone about 3.5 weeks prior to our reservation date. They charge your credit card in full at the time of reservation. The website says $55.95 a person, with no mention of tax so I was surprised when I was charged higher per person. It's fine; just wish it would've mentioned tax so I didn't think I was incorrectly charged Also, I was told the tea was done in pairs so parties of 3 are not possible. You are charged for a party of 4 regardless if you only have 3 people. They just wrap the 4th tea to-go. I found that incredibly odd And because of that, when we arrived, I was told that I requested my entire high tea to-go. I explained that I did not request that and wanted to have the high tea at the restaurant. After some confusion; we were offered a table Service was very slow, despite the restaurant not having very many customers for a Saturday afternoon. I recognize there was some confusion but service was very, very slow. It took a while to get our tea, which was disappointing in itself. I've done high tea in many places and was bummed to see that instead of loose leaf; you get a tea bag from Stash The food took about 50 minutes to come out. We had 2 different kind of sandwiches (a cucumber and cheese & a salmon - each person got 1 of each), along with 1 scone each, and various pastries (an apple strudel, chocolate eclair, cookies, and 2 petit fours). The food was very good but for how simple the sandwiches were; I am not sure why we had such a long wait. I'm sure the pastries were already made and taken from the bakery side of the restaurant Overall, would I come back? Most likely not. This was such a strange experience and not worth the cost. There are better high tea's in the surrounding areas (Los Angeles and NorCal) so save your money for that

Our total came to just under $200, and we were happy with the quality of the meal. When the bill arrived, there was a large QR code printed on the receipt instructing guests to pay by phone. We used that option and completed the payment before leaving. We also lingered at the table for a bit afterward -- I was putting on my coat and we were in no rush -- and at no point were we given any indication that there was an issue with the payment. However, as we were walking to our car, the waiter and busser came outside looking for us, believing we had not paid. From the parking lot, I could see them searching and had my husband walk back to clarify. The situation was resolved quickly and the server apologized, but it was uncomfortable and embarrassing. Especially after using the payment method they provided. I understand that technical delays can happen, but I would recommend verifying payment status internally before approaching guests in that way. It unfortunately put a damper on an our dining experience and the rest of the night...

We stopped in several shops, and then decided to stay for lunch, and decided since we were in Solvang, we ought to try to find a place that offered some authentic foods from the old country. After a bit of wandering, we came across The Bit O'Denmark, and it seemed to be just what we were looking for. I've lived overseas in Germany for a few years, and when I walked in I have to say the overall feel of the place was very European. Low, beamed ceilings, small tables with authentic feeling tablecloths, and divided into a couple of different dining rooms, it felt like I'd stepped across the Atlantic. The menu was straightforward, and offered a few things most americans would find familiar and appetizing. And then...there was a section specifically noted as authentic Danish dishes. Winning! I had the "Flaeskesteg," a roast pork stuffed with prunes, brown sauce, and apple sauce. It was accompanied by a sweet and sour red cabbage, cucumber salad, and roasted potatoes. It was wonderful. My palate was in heaven. I ate everything on the plate. They only had two beer choices, so I had the "Hoppy Poppy," an IPA, to go with it. The only way I could have been happier would have been some European import options. My beautiful lady had the "Bit O'Platter," which is three open-faced sandwiches: the Frikadeller, the Roast Pork, and the Danish Cheese. This turned out to be a wonderful choice; like three sandwiches in one! We were both splendidly surprised at the diversity and deliciousness of each one. And as luck would have it, we happened to be dining next to a mother and daughter who were speaking in a language I only understood about every 12th word of, due to my familiarity with German. I asked, and they said they were from Denmark. I asked about how authentic they found the meals to their home country, and they verified everything was quite authentic, although in their opinion, some of the pairings were a little odd. Well there you have it. If you're looking for something original, authentic, delicious, and memorable, put The Bit O'Denmark on your "Want to try," list. You'll thank me.

From the moment we walked in, it felt less like a restaurant and more like being invited into someone's passion project. The intimacy of the setting made it special right away--small group, shared experience, and a level of attention you just don't get in a traditional dining environment. Each course was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented, but more importantly, it delivered. The food was the clear star--clean, intentional, and incredibly well-executed. Every dish felt like it had a purpose. The steak and mushrooms were a standout, and dessert was right there with it. The wine pairings introduced us to bottles we wouldn't normally find or order ourselves, which added to the experience. If anything, I would've loved even more storytelling around the pairings--how and why each wine was chosen to complement the dish--but that's a small note in an otherwise incredible night. What really elevated the evening was the host's passion. You can feel it in how the food is prepared, how the evening flows, and how guests are brought into the experience. It's not just dinner--it's connection, storytelling, and craftsmanship all rolled into one. If you're looking for something beyond a typical night out--something more curated, more personal--this is absolutely worth it. A memorable night all around.

The cake was first brought out with a candle, then taken to the back, sliced, and returned piled on top of each other, placed on the table with tongs for us to serve ourselves. For a paid birthday event, this felt careless and unprofessional. There was a clear lack of food and service. The salads and meat were cleared by 10:30 PM, leaving our table bare, and the beef BBQ was so dry I could barely bite into it. We were told to expect a DJ and live music, but there was no DJ. The live music did not even start until 8:30 PM. Between the few live songs, elevator-style background music was played, which you couldn't dance to. Most of the time you were just sitting and waiting for the next song. In total, there were only a handful of songs the entire night, from about 8:30 PM until 11:30 PM. Then all music was completely shut down by 12:00 AM while there were still guests in attendance. This felt extremely unprofessional and cut our celebration short. The alcohol service was handled very poorly as well. I personally supplied the alcohol to the restaurant, yet only two bottles were placed on our table initially. The rest was kept to the side, and throughout the night the men at our table were asking for alcohol and felt they were expected to tip servers just to have their shots refilled. (Over $250 in tips server collected from my guests) This was uncomfortable and completely inappropriate. For the price I paid, the lack of food, lack of service, and especially the poor handling of music and alcohol made this a very poor experience. I even asked the venue employee would music be back on and they said oh yes long as there are guests music doesn't stop! But it clearly did. I would not recommend this venue for an important celebration. Party ended at 12am on a Friday night.
