Thanksgiving left overs with an almond, sesame loaf.

We decided to treat ourselves to an evening at Simms kitchen. I believe there were about 16 folks in total. This private dining event with wine parings is quite the unique experience. Ian really shared his passion for bringing people together through delicious dishes and wine pairings. There were several bottles I had never heard of before, the food though was truly the star of the show. Great portions and just very clean dishes. I wish we heard a little more about how the wines paired/highlighted the dishes or perhaps what else might pair well with the wine if you were opening at home. I wish I had a better description to share with the attached photos of the food. Everything was prepared with such care. It was hard to pick a favorite dish of the evening but it'd have to be a toss up between dessert and the steak and mushrooms. Thank you Ian for sharing your passion with us, it was truly a memorable evening.

November 28, 2025 Ian does an amazing job of teaching us about wine, and feeding us and sharing wonderful wine with us! It is always a great time! Not like a typical wine dinner. He pairs the food to the wine instead of pairing the wine with the food. Only 16 seats per night. You have to book in even numbers because each pair shares the plate of food. He puts so much thought into each dish. Some of the food prep is done days ahead of time. He gets a lot of food on his travels and shares it with his patrons. Thanks again Ian for another fantastic night full of wonderful wine, food, and memories!

Ian has created a unique experience that brings food, wine and strangers together in a way that's authentic, genuine and noteworthy. Ian's incredible story and adventures adds a taste to this ensemble that leaves you inspired, curious and satisfied. Everyone, including myself, is in the relentless pursuit of chasing that fleeting food dragon (i.e best food experience). This place will relieve that itch. Somm's Kitchen introduces amazing wine, delicious food, an interesting, well traveled host that happens to be the chef, the server, the owner and a humble wine genius. You will not be disappointed and you'll leave with a new friend or maybe friends...that will continue to celebrate after the food & Wine high. Ian, thanks for your incredible hospitality. My son Nico had a blast!

We made reservations for Valentine's Day knowing that this would be a very special dinner. Ian did not disappoint. The Champagne and wines served with our meal were perfect pairings. We were there for approximately 2 1/2hrs of wonderfulness. Ian is such a fabulous Chef and his knowledge of wine is incredible. I am posting pictures of some of the items we were served, but I was enjoying the food so much, I missed getting a couple of pictures. Ian's food is very different, delicious and fabulous. Everyone shares a plate for two. We try to go back as often as we can. Some of the events are a bit pricey for us, so going to Somm's Kitchen is always a special dinner. I would definitely recommend taking the time to have dinner with Ian. It is so worth it!!

If you get the chance Somm's Kitchen is a dining experience. Slow food paired exquisitely with global disparate varietals. The nuances in flavors textures of the dishes as well as the education about their productions leads to a dining experience you wont forget. T

What an amazing experience we had visiting Somm's Kitchen ! We drove up from Los Angeles and encountered some pretty hefty holiday traffic and fog. Needles to say , we were going to be late for our lunch reservation. Ian who runs the business kept in touch with us prior to our arrival inquiring about any specific food allergies that we may have. We notified him we were running late. He was so kind and offered to host us the following day instead, which worked out well. Our options for wine were different, as we had reservations for CA reds. The wine options the next day were different. Ian included some champagne which I truly enjoyed. The accompanying dishes he prepared for us were delectable ! My favorite was the tomato soup and prior to this , I hated tomato soup. I'm so glad I tried Ian's version of tomato soup. It was so creamy, yet he doesn't use cream. It is a speedy outing, but I feel it is 100 % worth it. Reservations are tough to come by , and now I know why. Planning in advanced is the key. Hoping to return soon.

I won't be able to capture the fullness of this experience in written form, but here is a shot. You feel something different from the moment you walk in. How many restaurants have you been to where the chef greets you as you walk in, is rolling his own playlist, and then you sit in the round and watch the plating? The most incredible part of this place is how personal Chef Ian makes every dish and every pour. You should head to Somms Kitchen if you really love food and the process. This isn't a place for those who just do it for the 'gram. There is no menu but here is just a small sample of some of the great dishes we had: - Peppers sous vide for 72 hrs with beans from calabria - Blumenkasse cheese steeped in French onion soup - A 'day at the beach' featuring Brittany lobster stock - 'Creamy' tomato soup with no cream And then, of course, there is the wine. My technical vocabulary is going to be insufficient here but let's say that I've never had better pairings. The benefit of this format is Chef Ian crafts the food and wine together instead of adding a wine program on top of a menu. Can't say enough good things. Best of luck to Chef Ian.

My girlfriend treated me with a wonderful experience at Somms hosted by Ian in an exclusive group that benefits of his undivided attention, history, provenance and recipe of each course, paired by different choices of wine from the popular one to some sophisticated choices that are hard to find rare gems. His knowledge is right on and the hospitality in his wonderful setting brings everything and every guest in a convivial atmosphere, anticipating the next course with excitement, as his passion for food is shared with his us like he is is our personal chef for the evening. From the fusions of exotic lands to the hearty terroirs of classic European style, his love for food is transformed in a great plate with flavors that are bringing us to appreciate the life, the diversity of the world and reminds us of what brings us together.

Our first stop when we arrived in Paso. We've been to so many wineries, this would be one of our top 10. The spice pairing is unique but pairs so well with the wine. Buy 3 bottles to waive the fee. Since it's more of boutique, the bottles are quite pricey, mostly ranging near the 100s. But it was our favorite the whole weekend we went there. And we bought 6 bottles. We loved the spell and got 3 bottles of that! It's a Syrah cab blend. Has the Paso flavor that we love. It's not a vineyard, just a tasting room but worth a visit. We met the wine maker too. Our "guide" for today was Nyoka, and she was fabulous. I don't know if she was solely helping us or not; however, it sure seemed like it. She was really sweet, was so informative and just a pleasure to talk to. We did the tasting, and we also did the optional spice tasting for an additional $15. I would strongly encourage you to add in the spice tasting. It is definitely well worth it, and it goes with the wine tasting so well. Nyoka was very good at not only telling us about the wines; however, also telling us about the spices, history, growing conditions, the owners, and even the geography -- along with a map as a visual. She was truly a pleasure. We did end up buying three bottles to take home. These bottles are a little bit pricier than ones we usually buy. We usually fall in the $50 range and these were definitely in the $75 to $90 range for most of them; however, they were definitely good and likely premium. We had an excellent time, and would return again in the future.
