A couple weeks late on this review but this is one of my new favorite restaurants in Paso! Usually when I got out to eat at a restaurant there are some good and not so good elements ... like the appetizer was just okay but the entree was delicious or vice versa. Everything we ordered from grace and rose was a hit!!! They did not miss from the cheese board to the appetizer to the entree and the dessert. It was all delicious. The Brie cheese specifically on the cheese board won my heart. The most buttery delicious Brie I have ever encountered in my life lol. To top it off all of this delicious food is enjoyed in a super cute restored farmhouse. All the staff were super pleasant. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service at Grace & Rose! We loved being able to send a round of drinks to the kitchen!! Every independent restaurant should have this on their menu! The sourdough was worth every calorie! The potatoes had the perfect crisp on them and complimented the chicken dish well! Our server Jackeline described the gravy so well, I knew precisely what to expect, and she sure nailed it! I love it when the servers know the menu! Our only note (hence the missing star) is when it's that hot out, there was no breeze on the side of the house, and it was not pleasant. Beautiful restaurant in a restored farmhouse. It's a bit off the main downtown area so nice and quiet. There are tables outside on the spacious porch, but it was a cool, windy night and we chose to eat indoors. Nice music was playing in the background at the right volume to be non-intrusive. We chose a couple of wines by the glass from the small but well curated wine list. Shared the goat cheese stuffed dates (fabulous), and also the roasted beets salad and whole branzino, both of which were excellent. Service was perfunctory and a bit cold. read more

Dinner at this restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip to Paso Robles. It's a cute farmhouse style located in a residential neighborhood. If we didn't already have plans to dine there, we probably would have missed seeing it. Sitting on their porch for dinner was so peaceful. Everything that we ordered was excellent. We were told that their menu changes with the seasons. We shared a beet salad to start, and it was so fresh and delicious. I had a pasta dish that was surprisingly good. The food was outstanding. The goat cheese stuffed dates were a perfect sweet and savory starter, the pork chop was juicy and flavorful, the branzino was cooked to perfection, and we finished with the incredible Gateau Basque cake for dessert. Grace and Rose sits plunk in the middle of a neighborhood. It once was a residence, which explains its casual charm. One may opt to sit inside or on the wraparound porch. A plethora of talkative staff work together to meet diner's needs. The menu is small but contains intriguing choices. We decided to share the pork chop and roasted carrots. Small menus seem to indicate finesse and complex flavors. The chef concocted a delicious sauce placed beneath the chop and included cannellini beans, pancetta, and leeks. ($44) The roasted carrots were dressed with ricotta, pesto, and pistachios. ($16) I ordered my first nonalcoholic drink-a refreshing ginger lemon mocktail. Overall, the atmosphere and the food were absolutely delightful. Great service we had the stuffed fix the heirloom tomatoes. I had steak and my partner had chicken. Every bit of the food was absolutely scrumptious. We are not wine drinkers so unfortunately, we could not partake in that but they all looked fabulous. Music played in the background so the ambience was nice. Great evening in Paso. My only comment would be is the owner came over to basically tell if someone was waiting on our table. I'm pretty much kicked us out. I felt that could've been done in a much more professional nicer way and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. For that, I could not give it five stars. read more

Last night was date night for my wife and me. As locals, we usually try to make reservations, especially on a holiday weekend, but we failed and had to take the very risky chance of not getting a table. Just one of my many first-world problems. We used to go to Wine Merchant for the Grassy Bar oysters as often as we could, so we were very excited to hear about the new spot, Grace and Rose. The newly remodeled farmhouse is nestled away from the busy downtown square, which, for a local, is a plus on some nights. It's not far from downtown, but lucky for us, we know how to drive. We were greeted by the owner, who has always been gracious with us, and let her know we had failed at getting a reservation. She was kind enough to let us sit at the bar so we could be seated right away. This already felt right. Not only was I incredibly happy to be there with my wife -- who looked stunning, by the way -- but I was also impressed with the remodel of the home. The revamping of this old house was done in such a unique way, staying true to the historical architecture while adding modern details and touches that somehow sexified the place in a completely consensual way, of course. Christina, who I believe runs the wine program, was absolutely incredible -- fun, engaging, and genuinely happy to serve us on our date night. She guided us through the menu, made some suggestions, and let the races begin. We started with a half bottle of Taittinger bubbles paired with our favorite Grassy Bar oysters. We ordered the goat cheese stuffed dates drizzled with a hot honey glaze. F me in the goat ass, that shit was fire. I may or may not still be thinking about those little bastards. How I would totally adopt them, raise them as my own, give them my last name, and keep them out of foster care for as long as possible. Say what you want about kale, but this kale and fennel salad had me rethinking my entire existence. Should I just go vegan? Because this shit had me turnt. The acidity of the lemon complemented the delicious Parmesan that hugged the salad like a great auntie who really loves her nieces and nephews. Some delicious bread and whipped butter arrived shortly thereafter. The butter was so easily spreadable and luxurious it could make any dominatrix pay to be whipped instead. We ended up sharing the roasted carrots, which were laid over a delicious tangy base, along with the steak, which was cooked slightly under medium rare -- but honestly, I didn't mind. I was ready to get dirty. The steak fries appeared to be made in-house: perfectly crispy, just soft enough inside, and kissed with exactly the right amount of salt. The evening led us to a glass of rosé followed by a delicious red, all suggestions made by the wonderful and impeccable Christina. The farmhouse was packed, but not in a way that felt loud or overwhelming. We could still carry a conversation. It felt like an actual home filled with people eating family-style food that was elevated and thoughtfully executed. My appreciation for service stems from having worked in the service industry myself. We recognize the hard work owners put into their food, as well as the efficiency, dedication, and commitment their staff brings to customer service. All of those things were achieved last night and then some. The mix of locals and tourists all under one roof, in one family home, eating their own specific dishes and drinking their own specific wines, made this place feel like more than just another crowded restaurant. It felt romantic, intimate, and somehow like a well-attended family gathering all at once. Thank you, Grace and Rose, for continuing to provide a unique space where people can come together to enjoy thoughtfully curated food and good company -- especially for the rest of us heathens who just want to get out of the house and not cook dinner on a Friday night. My girlfriend and I had an amazing dinner here. Late July, booked a reservation for the patio at 8PM. The weather had finally cooled off and we were so comfortable out there. The patio and the inside of the restaurant itself were so cute. We were greeted quickly by multiple people but ultimately we had a great server, who I believe was named Nick. We ordered a bottle of Albariño and the woman that opened it was also wonderful. Between our server and the woman who opened our wine, we literally never poured the wine ourselves. We had the kale salad, the carrots, and the pasta. All of these dishes were fantastic. Each dish was fresh, textural, and balanced. We were just in town for a few days, but if we lived in Paso, this place would be on the regular rotation. Food was excellent, service was even better (if that's even possible!). We sat outside on the patio, which got a bit toasty since it was a hot day but wanted the experience. Next time might opt for AC indoors. We finally got to go to Grace & Rose for my birthday and I had the best time!! To start, the host was super nice and accommodating (even gave us her own chair to sit us at the wine bar since we walked in with no reservation) and the service from Kristina at the bar was delightful. We ordered all their apps and I was obsessed with the dates and goat cheese, and their bread was yummy as well!! This might be a bold statement, but I think this is the best restaurant in SLO County! From the moment we walked up the stairs to the beautifully renovated house with its massive porch, we knew we were in for something special. We were seated outside, where the evening was warm and perfectly lit. The wine list immediately set the tone--Clos Solène, Tablas Creek, Law, Booker, and more. One of my pet peeves is when SLO County restaurants don't showcase the incredible wines made here, so this was a standout right away. We started with a bottle of Clos Solène sparkling rosé, paired with a dozen Morro Bay oysters and a kale salad--absolutely perfect. Next came the Etto pasta and corn chowder, both flawless. By then we were already blown away, but we couldn't resist continuing: a Clos Solène Pinot (spectacular), filet medallions with fries, and a sea bass with basil cream sauce. Every single dish was a 10. The service was just as impressive. Our waitress Jackie was outstanding, hostess Jen and the rest of the staff were warm and attentive, and meeting the chef and his wife sealed the deal--we left wanting to support them even more. We were seated upon arrival. We really liked the atmosphere. The restaurant is located in a residential neighborhood and it feels as if you are in someone's home and being treated to a delicious home-cooked meal. Our server was terrific. He was knowledgeable, prompt, and a delightful person. Hubby had the beet salad which was outstanding. I had the mussel chowder which is something I haven't tasted before. I've had plenty of chowders, but none had mussels. It was everything I imagined a mussel chowder should taste like. It wasn't too creamy or salty. It had the right amount of both without being overloaded with potatoes or heavy cream like some chowders hide behind. I absolutely loved the grilled branzino. The skin was crispy and the flesh was flaky and bursting with flavor. Even though I was getting full, I had to finish it because it was so delectable. Hubby said his pork chop was flavorful, but it was quite tough and difficult to chew. The food was seasoned well, but we wanted fresh cracked pepper. It was never offered to us and we had to ask. These are the reasons for 4 stars as opposed to 5. We def plan to return and try other items on their farm-to-table menu. read more

Grace ane Rose is an amazing addition to our Paso Robles restaurants. Justin and Julie are ultimate hosts and we enjoyed learning about the beautiful history of country home built in from 1915. We started with the skrimshaw beer and Poggio Costa persecco paired well with the burrata with tomato and fresh basil app. For entrees we had the sea bass paired with the Donnaclah St Rita hills Chard and the tomato mushroom and Calabria chili pasta with the cote de Rhone blend yum yum. Loved Paso Wine Merchant and been meaning to try out this spot. But after finding out their corkage fee is $40 had to reconsider. Ended up going to Novo in SLO. Don't regret it at all! And above that, only a $20 corkage fee. Wine industry is suffering and a $40 corkage isn't helping, specially in wine country. Wineries sell you wine that is marked up compared to grocery stores, and an excessive corkage fee?? Double whammy. Don't make sense considering they want you to drink local wine. read more

This was our first time here, and the experience was sublime. So many GF options! We sat on the covered patio, which was lovely as the heat of the day was receding. Excellent and knowledgable service that steered to me to the many GF options. I had the pork chop, which was perfectly cooked. I also sampled my husband's brick chicken. Tried this new restaurant with a friend tonight. It is in a restored 110 year old farmhouse just a few blocks from downtown Paso. The restaurant profiles a farm to table style menu. The exterior has all the charm you'd expect from an old farmhouse. The interior is in a classic farmhouse chic style with ample tables on the wrap around deck. The outside seating appears to come with a throw blanket per each seat, a nice touch. I wished that our table had been on the patio, because I found it distractingly loud at our inside table....not the place for an intimate dinner. If you want that, ask for the patio. The beverage options are quite limited, unless of course you want wine. We were asked no fewer than 3 times about our wine choice, even though my friend doesn't drink and I opted not to. So, there are no hot (black) tea options and only a few non-alcoholic options. Glasses of wine start at $15 and up, even for a non-alcoholic sparkling wine. I think the price point is a bit high by the glass (as a local with wine club memberships that afford me discounts on my favorite local bottles, some of which do not cost much more than a glass does here). The corkage is pretty high at $40 per bottle (with 2 bottle minimum) and if you bring a bottle of wine they sell there, it is not eligible for corkage. My friend liked the chickpea soup and green bean special well enough. I ordered the brick chicken entree. The chicken itself was moist, tender and well flavored. Do not expect much in the way of sides for your entrees, as the menu infers these are to be ordered separately (smashed potatoes, brussel sprouts and one other option). My chicken came only with some odd greens and fennel, which seemed to be more like an edible garnish. That was fine for me, as I am a protein gal and the chicken itself was enough to satisfy me. But those with more robust appetites who want an entree with actual sides might be disappointed at the dish's price point of $36. I decided to try their only dessert, a basque cake that was supposed to be served with a maple & cider curd and honey whipped cream. The cake was a little dry, as another review stated. It came with a white liquid on one side and an amber liquid on the other. The white stuff (if this was the honey whipped cream) tasted tart and curdled. But apparently this was honey yogurt, instead of the whipped cream mentioned in their menu. The amber stuff was the curd, but it did not taste like maple or cider to me. I wish I'd passed on the dessert honestly. Our main server provided impeccable service. The staff covering water left our glasses empty too long, on too many occasions. I wish we'd been left a carafe of our own water, especially since that was our only beverage. I will likely try coming here again, but will ask for the patio and skip dessert. read more
