Cheeseboard
Stephanie O.

Came here for brunch! Loved it. It was a super cute spot in a plaza with lots of parking. We got the cava and shared a cheeseboard and pork empanadas. The portions were big and we were filled up with these. The cava was refreshing and delicious. The cheeseboard we got had pate, Brie, pickled onions, and some toasted bread. So good The empanadas came with four pieces -- wish we could mix and match but the aioli sauce was delish to dip in! Had a little kick to it. Our waitress and the owner Nick were so friendly, gave us amazing recommendations for wine tasting and things to do in Paso! Loved it and will definitely be back.

This spot is a hidden gem! My friend found it on Google and we are so glad he did! I will say though, it was super pricey! We split all the tapas we ordered. The wagyu and pork lollipops were some of the tables favorites. However, they all came with the same little side salad with vinaigrette dressing. It would have been nice to taste something different. We loved the empanadas too! We had to try all the desserts, but the churros were by far our fave. It was quite loud in there and the food took quite a bit. The server was nice and overall good experience.

Food: everything we tried here was absolutely delicious (Wagyu, potatoes, paella, lamb, empanada). One after the other I figured there would be one thing I didn't like, but no, everything was flavorful. Service: Outstanding. Friendly, kind, and attentive. Ambiance: The layout of the seating was spaced out well and convenient. It was low/moderately loud and the lighting is towards the dimmer side but not dark.

Came on a winemaker night. Fun concept! They invite a winemaker over for a tasting of their wine that's paired with dishes. $25 for the 3 wine pours, but the food wasn't included. - house special nut mix: I forgot the actual name but the description sounded tasty! It... was on the stale side. -patatas bravas: standard. The sauce was tasty, especially with the wagyu. I preferred it dipped in this vs the chimmichurri. - wagyu: perfectly cooked! Absolutely order this! The tomatoes in the salad were very tasty. - junction fideua: yummy! I need to come back and try it with the paella. - chocolate mousse: paired with one of the wines, it was actually pretty good. The mousse was a bit chunky though, not sure if that was on purpose.

Loved this place!!! We were looking for a nice restaurant our last night in Paso Robles and found this on Open Table. We were seated at the bar. I don't like goat cheese or beets, but their Ensalada de Romolaca salad was absolutely incredible. I didn't take a picture because I didn't plan on trying it until my wife forced me to. That was followed by chicken and mushroom empanadas. The chicken was our favorite. Next were the Lamb Lollipops. Now I am not a fan of lamb but I would order these 1,000 more times. So much flavor. Not gamey at all. We finished it off with seafood paella, that was super fresh and tasty. The night before I had been telling my wife that I would love to find a good paella place after the one in Fresno closed a decade ago. While we were sitting at the bar, Ingrid, one of the owners came up to cut fruit and told us about how this restaurant came to fruition. She introduced us to her husband and head chef, Nick. Just a really nice couple. Hearing the backstories brings heart to the food. BTW - Next time one of you idiots decide that you want to leave a bad review, just keep in mind that small business owners deserve some grace because they are competing with big fish. A bad review could hurt their wellbeing where it won't affect a big nationwide restaurant. And that's my two cents. Go check this place out!!!!

We had our reservations here as we love Spanish tapas. We arrived a bit early & were vreeted by a wonderful, welcoming hostess - our table was ready so we got seated right away. They were very busy on Saturday evening so it took a while to get our food order in but the hostess was helping out throughout the restaurant and brought us the wine. We ordered mushroom empanadas, patatas bravas, octopus two way and pork iberico. Food was delicious. Octopus & pork portions were small for the price charged. We shared basque cheesecake - it was good but a bit too dense for my liking.

Maga Tempranillo

This was a great restaurant! Our waiter Luke was super friendly, and made the experience fun by letting us try some new Spanish wines i hadn't tried before (they all tasted amazing!)! We ordered beef empanadas and brazas which were incredible!! Super relaxing atmosphere and amazing food.

Patatas bravas. Wow! The hidden sauce under the parada's is not to be overlooked.

We were greeted Luke. Great persona or, welcoming. The inside of the restaurant of has an artistic flare to it. Beautiful art work. Now to the food. We ordered all the classics: patatas bravas, empanadas de puerco, camarones, Wagyu skirt steak. Every dish was vibing its own flavors. There was literally a party in my mouth. So Luke is also a mixologist. I was mesmerized to see him make my sangria from scratch. I was skeptical, but once I took that first sip I was mesmerized by how the flavors all balanced out to make the most delicious red sangria I had had. Would definitely recommend this gastro experience.

The food is amazing authentic tic Spanish tapas, paella and great wines. The bar is casual and relaxed, the space is cozy and comfortable. The Chef Nicholas and his wife are wonderful hosts as well. Their team is friendly and warm, service is great.

I was so tempted to write a horrible review to a prior visit. The experience was not so welcoming and inviting, but this made up for it.... Fast forward to now, made reservations a couple hours prior and got a table. There's a few options that we were able to choose from with seating. They have an outdoor patio as well. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived so we opted for a drink at the bar. By the time we looking at the menu and getting to get a drink, the table was ready. The menu does offer some amazing things. It's tapas so obviously meant for sharing and trying a few dishes. Drink were great as they did have a good selection of item. Some sound amazing but one or two was just like, not. Started off with the empanadas which came 4 to an order, nice. The filling was amazing and the crust was perfectly flakey. Ended up getting two orders. Also the mushrooms with baguette was great. The chorizo was ok with crostini bread. But as we were here, had to go for the paella. The seafood version was are with pasta versus rice. It was good but to be quite honest, I would have rather had it with rice. But quite good though. The outstanding dish was the steak and chimichurri. We never mentioned how we wanted it cooked but when it came out, it was perfect. Paired with the sauce, outstanding . Food was excellent, service was great. It does get busy. Compared to the first visit, this time takes the cake and will definitely be back whenever we're in town.

A great find in Paso! Food was solid. We made reservations ahead of time and got a seat on the patio. They are also dog friendly! Service was good as well. Would definitely come back! What we ordered: Octopus Papas bravas Empanadas Junction paella Red wine sangria Wagyu bistek

Not impressed. I've enjoyed small plate tapas throughout Spain. If you're expecting authentic, Spanish style tapas you will be extremely disappointed. Grilled octopus looked great but was tasteless. Lamb popsicles were presented beautifully, but when you bite into them they were like biting into course ground pepper. Watery and tasteless dressing on the wedge salad. I saw a couple of 2 star reviews on Yelp, but there were so many good reviews that I thought I would still give this place a try. High expectations. Execution, not so good. The place was otherwise busy and other tables seemed to enjoying themselves. Not sure what I was missing. In my opinion it was a total waste of $140. Everyone has different tastes. Maybe we just didn't order the right things on the menu. If you go, hopefully you'll have a better experience. FYI: I just received a response from the owner - which you can read below. I just wanted to clarify, your Yelp page says, "Spanish" Tapas Bars, Tapas/Small Plates. I obviously misinterpreted that. Now I understand that they are Spanish tapas... not authentic Spanish tapas. My mistake.

Great ambiance, service ,and food! Can't ask for anything else. The Paella & mini churros were bomb!

Spanish tapas anchor the menu, but the atmosphere leans more toward relaxed wine-country café than formal dining room. It's contemporary, welcoming, and comfortable in a way that encourages you to stay a little longer than planned. The room strikes a thoughtful balance between upbeat and easygoing. It's a great spot for friends catching up, small meetings that turn social, casual gatherings, or celebrations that don't need fuss to feel special. Conversations flow easily, the pace never feels rushed, and the space carries that rare sense of being lively without feeling loud. It already feels like a local favorite rather than a brand-new arrival. Drinks set the tone right away. The old fashioned was clean, balanced, and confidently made--no distractions, just good structure and depth. The Spanish wine list is clearly curated with care. These are not run-of-the-mill selections; they show nuance, texture, and real personality. The food reflects the same philosophy: simple ingredients, handled with intention. The red peppers stuffed with goat cheese were a standout for their restraint. Fresh peppers, silky olive oil, and a firm, beautifully integrated goat cheese that held together rather than crumbling. Nothing flashy, just clean flavors and excellent balance--the kind of dish that quietly wins you over. The mushroom croquettes followed with comfort and finesse. Four crisp, golden bites filled with finely chopped mushrooms and herbs, tender inside and lightly crisp outside. Paired with a Spanish-style cream, they were rich without heaviness and disappeared quickly, which is always a good sign. One of the most enjoyable dishes was the tomato preparation served with toasted bread broken into small, shareable pieces. The tomatoes were bright and juicy, simply seasoned, and meant to be scooped rather than plated formally. It encouraged interaction at the table--passing, sharing, tasting together--and fit perfectly with the tapas spirit of the restaurant. The potatoes were another highlight. Small, skin-on, lightly smashed and roasted until tender with just the right bite. Finished with aioli, they felt hearty but never heavy, seasoned at the right moment and cooked with care. Comforting, well-executed, and surprisingly satisfying. What truly elevates S'Aranella, though, is the service culture. Sitting near the bar and service station turned into part of the experience. Sydney, our bartender, was friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to talk with, and other members of the team joined conversations naturally--even when they weren't directly serving us. They shared stories about what they enjoy cooking, why they like working there, and how the restaurant fits into the larger Paso Robles community. There was genuine pride in the way they spoke about the space, the ownership, and their coworkers. That openness created a sense of connection that's hard to fake. You don't feel like a customer passing through--you feel welcomed into something that's being built with care. S'Aranella feels less like a restaurant you try once and more like the beginning of a relationship. Thoughtful food, warm service, and an atmosphere that invites conversation and return visits. Spanish tapas done with heart, confidence, and a clear sense of place--right where Paso Robles gathers.

First of all, it was a Saturday night and the place was full on a hot spring day. It was by far the noisiest place I've been in especially with glass doors shut for ac I guess. As it turned darker, the doors were opened and the noise level improved. Now for the foods: We ordered the bone in rib eye, proudly boasted as the house specialty at $4 per oz. Our portion came at $96 (24 oz), pretty pricey so better be something right? Well, it was a disappointment - some parts were tough, chewy and fatty - the gravy sauce and mushrooms were good. The charred Ceasar came with two Spanish anchovies - was ok, interesting taste but not noteworthy. The Lamb stuffed peppers were also ok, nothing special - the ground lamb tasted dry. We also had Papas bravas, commonly called Patatas bravas, one of my fave tapas. I had tasted the best in Barcelona. Well, their papas were basically fried skin on baby potatoes slightly smothered with lioli on top that didn't resemble nor taste like authentic brava sauce which is primarily made with paprika. Their sauce was nothing special but a simple, very common alioli, mayonnaise and ketchup combined. It came pretty dry that I had to ask for extra "brava" sauce - mayo and ketchup - charged me additional $2, really?! Having known a real good Spanish restaurant in San Francisco as well as having been to Spain, I can't say that this place is good enough nor recommendable for authentic Spanish cuisine. That night would be our first and last visit. The service was ok but seems like the regulars get more attention than the "newbies." Last but not least, dessert - their crema catalana, aka creme brulee, supposedly infused with orange was bland with not even a hint of orange or citrus taste to it. The whole experience was truly disappointing :(

The intimacy of the setting made it special right away--small group, shared experience, and a level of attention you just don't get in a traditional dining environment. Each course was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented, but more importantly, it delivered. The food was the clear star--clean, intentional, and incredibly well-executed. Every dish felt like it had a purpose. The steak and mushrooms were a standout, and dessert was right there with it. The wine pairings introduced us to bottles we wouldn't normally find or order ourselves, which added to the experience. If anything, I would've loved even more storytelling around the pairings--how and why each wine was chosen to complement the dish--but that's a small note in an otherwise incredible night. What really elevated the evening was the host's passion. You can feel it in how the food is prepared, how the evening flows, and how guests are brought into the experience. It's not just dinner--it's connection, storytelling, and craftsmanship all rolled into one. If you're looking for something beyond a typical night out--something more curated, more personal--this is absolutely worth it. A memorable night all around.

In fact in the patio dining area I saw three plates of food (including our peppers) delivered to tables in the hour we had been sitting there. Interestingly the wait staff all seemed very busy and moved around the restaurant but not much appeared to get done. Having worked in hospitality previously I have a lot of empathy for the staff as they seemed to lack direction and management support. My husband ordered the mushroom and scallop pasta. It was okay. Overpriced, but was tasty. I ordered the chile relleno and steak. The chile relleno was filled with a large amount of corn that tasted freezer burnt. My steak was thin and grey and overcooked. It was nearly all grey inside with a couple spots of pink. It wasn't seasoned either. The sauces on the plate were good. Our server was polite and did take it off the menu. However, no manager ever came by to check on us or any other table on the patio in the time we were there. I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews.
