This is a very elegant, fine dining restaurant in Downtown Paso Robles. The service is excellent. The Chef prepared menu delicious. The wine list is full of great choices. For a special evening out or a celebration, or just a great dining experience this is the perfect choice.

Overall, we had a great experience! The service was amazing, the place is modest but cozy the food was definitely good. The escargot was delicious--I could've easily had a couple more orders of those yummy little things. The quail was very good as well, though it came with a sweet, caramel-like sauce that my beau wasn't a fan of. The rabbit was just okay for me, but my beau really enjoyed it. The wine was also solid.

Pretty disappointing in my opinion. We came here after some wine tasting in paso, and everything was just very 'meh.' We tried all of the hot takes from the menu, but nothing stood out as amazing. The corkage is $50, which I thought was a lot for wine country. They add on a surprising 3% fee if if you pay by credit card, that everyone does. The steak that we got was overcooked compared to how it was requested. One interesting thing was that the escargot surprisingly had 2 snails in every shell, so I'm not sure how authentic they were. We had plenty of escargot in France, and never were there 2 snails in a shell. The service was mediocre, and they struggled with getting the heaters to work on a cold night. I really was not very impressed with BL Brasserie, and am surprised that they are still in business. I don't think that I'll be returning.

My boyfriend and I came across this restaurant while walking downtown, and I'm glad we stopped in! We came in pretty late (almost 9pm), but the staff was kind and still seated us. Overall the food was great. We ordered a half dozen oysters and crab croquettes, my boyfriend ordered the Filet Mignon with peppercorn sauce and potatoes au gratin, and I ordered the roasted duck special with potatoes and blueberry sauce. The oysters were of decent size and alone had pretty good flavor; however, the sauce was not my cup of tea as it was quite vinegary / sour. The crab croquettes were nice and crispy, but the filling was more creamy and less crabby (both in flavor and in crab meat texture) than I had anticipated. My boyfriend said his filet was one of the best he's had in a restaurant in a long time. It was a perfect medium rare and the peppercorn sauce was delicious! It definitely had a peppery kick but a nice creamy balance. The potatoes were also rich with cream, cheese and garlic! My duck was also amazing--it was tender and the fatty flavor was complimented by the sweeter blueberry sauce. I could've done without my potato pancake as it was kind of bland and didn't add much to the dish (I could've just shared my boyfriend's au gratin dish since those were so good). We also enjoyed the crème brûlée, which had a thick layer of carmelized sugar / crisp on top. The beignets were big, warm and fluffy but didn't have a ton of flavor, so I could've done without those. Overall, I think the food quality was on par with the price point. The wait staff was very friendly, and despite being later in the evening we weren't rushed to get out. The restaurant itself was on the higher end but not pretentious or overly fancy. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an nicer date night spot downtown!

    Decanting an excellent French wine

We felt transported to Paris the minute we walked in. There were huge French ad posters lining the walls and an air of sophistication as a tall, stoic, professional gentleman led us to our table. The menu was classic French fare. We started with the tasty escargot in the shell (garlicky and chewy); a bottle of superb Chateauneuf du Pape (our attentive gentleman decanted it for us); traditional French onion soup (done just right); I ordered an excellent hangar steak in red wine (an exquisite, flavorful blend of juicy, tender meat and reduction sauce). Our party loved all their dishes: the special pumpkin with seafood; the shrimp; fluffy omelet; leek soup. Our creme brulee was once again, done in classic style and very delicious. This is was a wonderfully memorable experience thanks to first rate service and top-notch food.

Service and food were amazing as always. The ambience is so comfortable and inviting. We brought friends who had never had French food or even oysters, quail or mussels which we ordered for appetizers. We took a big chance considering their limited experience with these dishes. They raved about the meal! They are now looking forward to returning and continuing to experience French food. Kudos to BL Brasserire for delivering on all fronts.

Just us having an awesome meal!

This was an amazing restaurant. The food was amazing. So French and so yummy. I had the French onion soup and the chicken dish. Now this isn't just an ordinary chicken, this is French chicken with the amazing buttery crispy skin and juicy tender meat. I don't know how they make chicken taste so good. My husband had the steak frites and he was impressed. I would come back here again in a heartbeat. By the way, this was recommended to us by one of the wine makers at a local winery who said this was a very good place to go out for great food in Paso Robles.

We have been coming to this restaurant for 30 years. It's always amazing. The food is incredible and the staff is always helpful and knowledgeable. It's a perfect bistro and plenty of seating inside the charming restaurant and great seating outside. If you love French food this is the perfect place to go. I love this restaurant! The only reason why I gave them a 4 is they were quite busy and we had to wait for our check. The food is always a 5

What a wonderful gem in downtown Paso Robles! My daughter and I love French food and she took me to Paso Robles for a birthday weekend. This place is so amazing and so special, they really know what they're doing! Everything we ate was delicious and even more impressive was they timed everything perfectly the chef and the kitchen Actually pay attention to how you pace you're eating and drinking so everything comes out amazing and when you want it. Of course, this all starts with having an impressive waiter who knows what he's doing. The service was impeccable. The place is adorable and quaint, everything you would find in a Parisian brasserie!

Came here with some friends without a reservation and the waiter was able to seat us quickly on the outdoor patio. They were very direct about needing the table for another party, so we ordered quickly. Despite knowing the time limit, we didn't feel rushed which was fantastic. The crew were awesome about keeping our drinks replenished which was great because it was a scorcher of a day. The French onion soup was very flavorful. My salmon was dry, but the lentils that accompanied it were great. Ultimately, the meal was good but I probably wont be back.

Steak and cream sauce is phenomenal. Highly recommended. Ceasar salad was fresh and crispy. Refreshing with the savory steak.

Ask the Community - BL Brasserie

    Is there a dress code?

I have seen people dressed up and casual. Would not go with flip flops and tank tops, but casual button up shirts and shorts on guys and gals are not unheard of.

Does BL still do the multi-course chef wine pairing dinners? This was the absolute BEST culinary experience, when I visited them in 2013.

    They offer it on Thursdays.

Do they allow dogs on the outdoor patio? And is there heating out there?

I don't think this is the kinda place to bring the pooch. Don't recall seeing out door heating ..

I made reservations at Les Petites Canailles (French cuisine) and I am glad I did. The Prix Fixe menu is known as the Chef's "Trust Us" Menu ... $190 for two. Add Wine Pairing for $90 per person. The restaurant had two Sommeliers making the rounds to each table to provide details on the wines. NOTE: Most restaurants do not have a Sommelier on staff, two was our good fortune! FIRST COURSE: Morris Bay Oysters with Lime was chilled and tasty (not slimy as I have had with other raw oysters). Paired with Peter Laurr Riesling, which was well-balanced, not "sweet" like most Rieslings). SECOND COURSE: Asparagus Salad with Honey Truffle dressing. Paired with a German Silvaner wine. It was light and perfect. THIRD COURSE : Bluefin Tuna Crudo with Watermelon Cubes. A chilled carafe of watermelon puree was poured over the dish. Very creative and delicious. This was paired a White Blend from Brookdale Bradbourne of Paarl in South Africa. It was a great choice and something different that I would have overlooked. FOURTH COURSE: Spinach Cavatelli (my favorite of the evening), a Duck and Pork dish in a savory jus and Kale. Paired with an Italian Rose Tenuta del Terre Nere wine. FIFTH COURSE: Grilled Iberico Presa (Wagyu pork shoulder). Paired with red wine Lopez de Heredia. SIXTH COURSE: Rum cake with Bruleed Bananas and Candied Pecans with a Caramel Swirl and a Chocolate Mousse with whipped cream. For the finale, we were served a Port wine, Warre's Otima 10 year Tawny, served chilled. Our wonderful and engaging server was Nikki. The Sommeliers were Dayton and Alex. We were also attended to by Mack who has been at this location for five years and completed culinary school, he is a great addition to the Chef's team. It was 5 stars in every category. It was spectacular to leave it to the "experts" to select the meal and finest wines to accompany each dish. Sincerely, Rosemary

From the moment we walked in, it felt less like a restaurant and more like being invited into someone's passion project. The intimacy of the setting made it special right away--small group, shared experience, and a level of attention you just don't get in a traditional dining environment. Each course was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented, but more importantly, it delivered. The food was the clear star--clean, intentional, and incredibly well-executed. Every dish felt like it had a purpose. The steak and mushrooms were a standout, and dessert was right there with it. The wine pairings introduced us to bottles we wouldn't normally find or order ourselves, which added to the experience. If anything, I would've loved even more storytelling around the pairings--how and why each wine was chosen to complement the dish--but that's a small note in an otherwise incredible night. What really elevated the evening was the host's passion. You can feel it in how the food is prepared, how the evening flows, and how guests are brought into the experience. It's not just dinner--it's connection, storytelling, and craftsmanship all rolled into one. If you're looking for something beyond a typical night out--something more curated, more personal--this is absolutely worth it. A memorable night all around.

Of note, we were never given an option for indoor seating when making our reservation nor when we were seated. After ordering, we received our starter (shishito peppers) within 10 minutes. However once we finished the starter we waited an additional 30-40 minutes for our entrees. There was no communication from the wait staff at all, no refills on water, nothing. In fact in the patio dining area I saw three plates of food (including our peppers) delivered to tables in the hour we had been sitting there. Interestingly the wait staff all seemed very busy and moved around the restaurant but not much appeared to get done. Having worked in hospitality previously I have a lot of empathy for the staff as they seemed to lack direction and management support. My husband ordered the mushroom and scallop pasta. It was okay. Overpriced, but was tasty. I ordered the chile relleno and steak. The chile relleno was filled with a large amount of corn that tasted freezer burnt. My steak was thin and grey and overcooked. It was nearly all grey inside with a couple spots of pink. It wasn't seasoned either. The sauces on the plate were good. Our server was polite and did take it off the menu. However, no manager ever came by to check on us or any other table on the patio in the time we were there. I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews.
