Despite being locals, this was our first dinner at BL Brasserie on Friday night, and it did not disappoint. All the food was excellent. I had the striped bass special with bour-blanc sauce, and their almost rattatouille-like sliced & baked veggies. The wife had the duck special, in a red sauce. We were suggested a bottle of wine that would pair with these entrees, and it did; a delicious local 2022 Paso Robles Pinot with grapes from Santa Rita Hills. They also had several wines by the glass, listed on their chalkboard, and half-bottles, etc.. Service was top-notch, and pricing was fair. The space had very nice lighting and ambiance, with French touches. Even the bathroom was beautiful. I do recommend making your reservation in advance. I only called an hour ahead, and we were offered the patio (heated and covered), which we took, and were then upgraded to the dining room when they had a no-show. You'll still enjoy the food and drink on the patio, but the ambiance is much better in the dining room. They also have a small bar in the dining room. Overall, we had a great date-night at BLB and will definitely be back, to try their other tasty food and wines! read more

Another fabulous night of feasting at the quaint BL Brasserie. We were met by the lovely hostess Heather as we entered the restaurant; she offered to hang my coat and seated us at a comfortable corner table. We started our dinner with a delicious Champagne rose brut; crisp and beautifully balanced. For our appetizers, we ordered the charcuterie platter, which was mélange of saucisson, pate de campagne (adored this pâte) I believe jamon de Bayonne or a similar cured ham, and delicious crouts. A truly tasty platter! We also ordered the crab croquettes, which were crunchy and savory with a delicious béchamel crab filling. We always ordered the salade Lyonnaise, we love every aspect of this salad, the shallots dressing is so wonderful and piquant! For our entree we ordered the duck breast with a sweet and savory blueberry reduction; wow! Amazing! Cooked perfectly medium rare and so tender; paired with an elegant red from Burgundy. This has potential to be a great French brasserie. It's a nice space with very good service. The only downside was that the food was rather bland. Started with the escargots, which were quite good. Came in a traditional garlic/parsley sauce that was sopped up by the roll (the roll was just OK). The hanger steak was a good piece of meat and well-cooked. The peppercorn sauce, though, needed more oomph. Same with the special of black cod. It was a large piece of fish, but the buerre blanc was buerre boring. It needed at minimum some salt and acid (lemon). The frites were also boring, and not the shoestring crisp fries common with steak frites. Finally, the asparagus was fresh but it too just lacked any interesting depth of flavor. The red Burgundy was quite nice. Charge an extra 3% for using any card - even a debit card. read more

Overall, we had a great experience! The service was amazing, the place is modest but cozy the food was definitely good. The escargot was delicious--I could've easily had a couple more orders of those yummy little things. Pretty disappointing in my opinion. We came here after some wine tasting in paso, and everything was just very 'meh.' We tried all of the hot takes from the menu, but nothing stood out as amazing. The corkage is $50, which I thought was a lot for wine country. They add on a surprising 3% fee if if you pay by credit card, that everyone does. The steak that we got was overcooked compared to how it was requested. One interesting thing was that the escargot surprisingly had 2 snails in every shell, so I'm not sure how authentic they were. We had plenty of escargot in France, and never were there 2 snails in a shell. The service was mediocre, and they struggled with getting the heaters to work on a cold night. I really was not very impressed with BL Brasserie, and am surprised that they are still in business. I don't think that I'll be returning. read more

I was very excited to try the this restaraunt based off online recommendations. I was greeted by a new waitress, and luckily a seasoned waitress stepped in and assisted us with our order, then it was downhill from there from a food perspective. I ordered the filet with pom frites and my wife ordered the lamb rack with scalloped potatoes. Both sounded delicious, but the execution was poor. This could be a 5/5 restaraunt but the food just had no follow through. It was either lacking salt or flavor. This restaraunt could be supreme with a bit of retrospective. read more

My boyfriend and I came across this restaurant while walking downtown, and I'm glad we stopped in! We came in pretty late (almost 9pm), but the staff was kind and still seated us. Overall the food was great. We ordered a half dozen oysters and crab croquettes, my boyfriend ordered the Filet Mignon with peppercorn sauce and potatoes au gratin, and I ordered the roasted duck special with potatoes and blueberry sauce. The oysters were of decent size and alone had pretty good flavor; however, the sauce was not my cup of tea as it was quite vinegary / sour. The crab croquettes were nice and crispy, but the filling was more creamy and less crabby (both in flavor and in crab meat texture) than I had anticipated. My boyfriend said his filet was one of the best he's had in a restaurant in a long time. It was a perfect medium rare and the peppercorn sauce was delicious! It definitely had a peppery kick but a nice creamy balance. The potatoes were also rich with cream, cheese and garlic! My duck was also amazing--it was tender and the fatty flavor was complimented by the sweeter blueberry sauce. I could've done without my potato pancake as it was kind of bland and didn't add much to the dish (I could've just shared my boyfriend's au gratin dish since those were so good). We also enjoyed the crème brûlée, which had a thick layer of carmelized sugar / crisp on top. The beignets were big, warm and fluffy but didn't have a ton of flavor, so I could've done without those. Overall, I think the food quality was on par with the price point. The wait staff was very friendly, and despite being later in the evening we weren't rushed to get out. The restaurant itself was on the higher end but not pretentious or overly fancy. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an nicer date night spot downtown! read more

We felt transported to Paris the minute we walked in. There were huge French ad posters lining the walls and an air of sophistication as a tall, stoic, professional gentleman led us to our table. The menu was classic French fare. We started with the tasty escargot in the shell (garlicky and chewy); a bottle of superb Chateauneuf du Pape (our attentive gentleman decanted it for us); traditional French onion soup (done just right); I ordered an excellent hangar steak in red wine (an exquisite, flavorful blend of juicy, tender meat and reduction sauce). Our party loved all their dishes: the special pumpkin with seafood; the shrimp; fluffy omelet; leek soup. Our creme brulee was once again, done in classic style and very delicious. This was an amazing restaurant. The food was amazing. So French and so yummy. I had the French onion soup and the chicken dish. Now this isn't just an ordinary chicken, this is French chicken with the amazing buttery crispy skin and juicy tender meat. I don't know how they make chicken taste so good. My husband had the steak frites and he was impressed. I would come back here again in a heartbeat. By the way, this was recommended to us by one of the wine makers at a local winery who said this was a very good place to go out for great food in Paso Robles. read more

So disappointed in the food from this charming little restaurant. The service was great but the serving size for the risotto was very small and tasteless. I think they didn't include ingredients that were described in the menu. The serving size was small about 2 tablespoons . The risotto was fried into a patty which made it crunchy and dry. Was it leftover risotto they decided to just fry up? My friend asked me "where's the risotto?" Expensive and I would have left hungry if didn't have bread. Good bread and nice salad. Came here with some friends without a reservation and the waiter was able to seat us quickly on the outdoor patio. They were very direct about needing the table for another party, so we ordered quickly. Despite knowing the time limit, we didn't feel rushed which was fantastic. The crew were awesome about keeping our drinks replenished which was great because it was a scorcher of a day. The French onion soup was very flavorful. Not having been before, we were uncertain about where the entrance was, but dutifully followed the sign indicating it was around the corner to the right, which led us to the entrance of a lush courtyard. Still not certain we were in the right spot, I attempted to get the assistance of two individuals walking by inside of the courtyard and, dare I say, in what has been oft-said to be true French fashion, was completely ignored by both. Not easily deterred, however, and after venturing further inside, we finally found the restaurant's little doorway to the left. Our gracious host seated us promptly, after which we took a few moments to admire the interior decor. Just then our host (the same older gentleman who'd so deftly ignored me outside) welcomed us and asked if we'd like to start with champagne. Determining after a few moment's silence it to be far better to hold onto glasses of bubbly rather than a pique, we accepted. The sparkling champagne, warm bread and creamy butter provided the prelude to our meal. Thereafter, our jeune serveur brought us their beet salad, which was delicious. The French onion soup was nicely done, and the ribeye and side of asparagus were also quite fine, but fell short of being splendid. The check was rather higher than anticipated, but not outrageously so. Will we return? The quail appetizer was amazing and so was the French onion soup. I wish they had a full bar to enjoy a cocktail beforehand but oh well. Will definitely come back for a special occasion. Celebrating a birthday, my love took me to BL Brasserie. It was on our bucket list when we had something special, and she surprised me with here. I was so excited. The outside patio dining needs an upgrade, and no one was dining on either of there 2 patios on a Thursday night. Inside, a small bar (6-ish) and 20 or so white-clothed tables. Adorned with vintage French posters, the colors, the feel -- I was in France. So cool. For the moment, I was transported. Nice service by the hostess and team, we decided to get the bread (free), our entrees, and dessert...rather than apps, salad, etc. We did have glasses of wine, and mine was delish. For my entree, I got the 8 oz Filet with a side of potatoes au gratin -- both were delish and perfect. Three choices of sauce, I chose the mustard (peppercorn and red wine are the others). Although it was brown and not mustardy yellowish, it was so good I didn't leave a drop. The steak was perfect, one of the best I've ever had. [$58, 5.0 stars] My sweet petite got the fresh fish of the day, Grouper (great, she loved), with a side of pomme frites. Well, they said they are made fresh, but it tasted like frozen from Albertsons. Give me fresh shoestring, not medium-cut fries any day. For dessert, we shared a creme brulee (with a lit candle atop). An amazing experience at BL Brasserie! We had just arrived in Paso Robles after a long drive from Healdsburg--and needless to say, I was hangry. We wandered around downtown Paso looking for something that sounded good, but nothing was hitting the mark. On our way back to the car, feeling a little defeated, we passed by BL Brasserie, glanced at the menu, and kept walking. But the smells coming from the restaurant literally stopped me in my tracks--they drew me back in. We were seated immediately and warmly greeted by multiple people. It feels like they work as a team rather than assigning one specific server, which made the service feel seamless and attentive. Marc is an absolute gem--his lovely French accent made it feel like we were dining in a charming Parisian bistro. He offered thoughtful recommendations, and everything we tried was spot on. The burrata salad was fresh, and the burrata itself was outstanding. The salad was a bit overdressed, but that didn't stop us from devouring it. I ordered the crispy risotto with crab and shrimp--so good! My husband had the gnocchi and thoroughly enjoyed it. And the beignets--oh my. We already love beignets, but these were next level with a surprise apple crème filling. The soft pastry and light cream inside made every bite a delightful surprise. We've been coming to this restaurant every time we visit Paso Robles and it never fails to be the best meal of the trip! Indoor and outdoor ambience are both amazing, while I recommend sitting outside in the courtyard. We've recently had the roasted salmon, crispy crab risotto, rack of lamb, and steak tartare along with the escargots as an appetizer and it was all delicious. My first time dining here for lunch! The downtown Paso Robles area usually isn't too packed during weekdays. Parking first 2 hours are free. At the BL Brasserie, you may be able to grab a seat at the outdoor patio if you don't have reservations. Lobster Bisque || $11 Very tasty, creamy soup. I was hoping for a bit more lobster, but there were still a few pieces to make the bisque very warm and well rounded. Tart with Caramelized Onions and Duck || $16 This was a pretty neat dish! I'm glad I tried it. The duck was savory and delicious against the light tart crust and caramelized onions. I've also been here before previously for dinner and had a great experience then with their rack of lamb. Would recommend that as well. read more

The wife has been wanting to try this eatery in Paso for a while now. So on our latest Paso excursion we decided to stop in for lunch on a Thursday. It was fairly late in the day so the restaurant wasn't crowded and we were able to get seated immediately. The decor of the place definitely feels like a little slice of Paris with the brick walls and the old-timey European paintings on the walls. The servers wear crisp white shirts and black pants. I'm a sucker for French Onion soup so I of course started with a cup of that. When the soup arrived it was still bubbling. I tried to wait for it to cool down but I just had to taste it so I took a bite too early and ended up burning my mouth a bit but it was worth it. Gooey cheese, super sweet onions with a succulent broth. For the entree I went with the Beef Sandwich. No, not a French Dip. Just a simple sandwich with sliced beef, cheese, tomato and onion. Also very good. We finished off the meal with a berry tart sort of dessert. Overall BL Brasserie is a great place for a meal. The food and service were both very good. read more
