We love going to McPhee's when we visit the area, so we went back once again. I love the halibut, but when it's not in season they use salmon which I was really upset about - but I loved it just as much and the leftovers the next day cold were amazing!!! I will definitely do that again! Lamb is a small portion, but delicious. The service is impeccable and usually offered by the same cheerful people who always take good care to making sure everything is just to your liking. We love sitting next to the cooks area where the meat is cooked to watch them in action on the grills. Thanks for a great meal!

Service was fabulous! I didn't get to take a picture of the kung fu pork baby back ribs because i ate them so fast but those might have been my favorite of the night! Another stand out were the mashed potatoes which were perfect. I got the porterhouse special which was $120 and came with au gratin potatoes and vegetables, very delicious! There was also a halibut special and a salad special which i also got - arugula strawberries beets and feta. I enjoyed being able to see into the kitchen and watch the chefs cooking. Lots of delicious looking dessert options, my friend loved her salmon. I would definitely come back, it was very cute inside too like upscale hick!

We had a big birthday dinner at McPhees and we were very impressed by the service. Our waitress was very friendly and everything was efficient. The ambiance of the restaurant is so nice. Low lights, quiet music, very relaxing. Because we called ahead to schedule our party, we had a nice private room tucked away from the rest of the restaurant. The food was overall good. The garlic feta dip starter was INCREDIBLE. I could've devoured all of it. I had duck for my main dish and it wasn't my favorite, but it was fine. We would definitely return!

New Years Eve dinner was excellent. Haven't been here for quite some time so we decide to treat ourselves to the best steakhouse in the Central Coast. It did not disappoint. The filet was cooked perfectly to a medium and the sauce was very flavorful. The bread was delicious but that ended up being a problem when I couldn't finish my steak. Had to take it home. We finished the night with a 4 layer carrot cake with coffee. It was super moist and delicious. We force ourselves to finish it off. We rolled out of here. The ambience was festive and the servers here were very nice and attentive. They even liked my Bob's burgers shirt :-)

McPhee's Grill is located in a refurbished saloon in the small town of Templeton. This casual upscale restaurant serves dinner everyday, except Monday and Tuesday. McPhee's specializes in taste bud tingling wood-grilled steaks, seafood and other gourmet offerings. McPhee's offers an extensive selection of fine wines, including their own vintages, as well as adult libations from their full bar. The atmosphere is casual upscale. Service was attentive. Their warm goat cheese and roasted garlic appetizer was a nice start to a relaxing meal. We ordered the Macadamia Nut and Panko Crusted King Salmon and their Aged Ribeye "Double R Ranch" as our entrées. The King salmon was delicate yet firm and flavorful. Expertly prepared, it was served with plain rice and Asian slaw. It has been a popular staple on the menu for years. Served with a large goat cheese & corn stuffed poblano chile, and jalapeño cheese mashed potatoes, the 14 oz. ribeye was served covered with 3 salsas. I was a bit disappointed as I ordered with the salsas on the side. Smothering the steak with acidity does not improve its flavor, it hinders it. I've ordered their steaks many times off their lunch menu many years ago when they were serving in the afternoons. Their steaks have always been outstanding.

Large portions that pack the flavor! We were greeted warmly and seated right away. The restaurant gives off old country charm and the large cowboy sized portions match that! We enjoyed our meal, walked out stuffed and happy we stopped in for dinner!

Just a quick update. I almost gave McPhee's a four. I made reservations and I asked for a booth and we got that. But then we sat and no server etc. came by for 10+ minutes. So the hostess came by and my husband asked her who's our server. We found out somebody called in sick and I guess the information did not get passed down to the right people to cover us. So Leslie stepped in. She was excellent friendly got us water, bread and a relish tray. I asked for a taste of the Albarino and she brought it to me and it was very good so I got a glass. My husband got an 805 but it was different and he liked it. We both had the halibut as it just came back on the menu. It was a generous piece with some rice and slaw. Love the decor and it's not too noisy.

While visiting the Central California coast line, we were looking for a steak house. And through both word of mouth and Help, we dame across McPhee's Grill. Located in the heart of the Central CA wine country, this steak house has something to fulfill the pickiest of eaters. Everything from the breads, salads, steaks, and seafood are excellent, in fact beyond excellent. The servers are very attentive and polite, just making your dining experience all the better. There's nothing better than being appreciated by the staff that you're taking the time to dine there. The dining room is well decorated and dimly lit for those wanting a romantic meal. Aside from the atmosphere, the comprehensive wine list and knowledge from the staff about the wines are phenomenal. Thank you for the amazing meal and excellent service.

It's been about 4-5 years since our last visit to McPhee's. I think we went once post-COVID, and to be honest, it didn't quite hit the mark that time--but we decided to give it another shot, and I'm glad we did. Coming from the LA area, I really appreciate the small-town charm and welcoming atmosphere they've got going here. It feels like a true family-owned steakhouse, and when we went in January, it felt like we were the only out-of-towners in the place. We ordered half a rack of ribs for the kiddo, and my wife and I shared the porterhouse. The ribs were solid, but the porterhouse? Incredible. I haven't had one that good in years--probably not since the last time we were here back in 2019. McPhee's easily ranks as one of the best steakhouses on the Central Coast. If you're anywhere nearby, or even just passing through, do yourself a favor and drop in.

Disappointing the second time around. We were staying in Templeton and wanted a nice dinner out, we had 7 people plus baby. We raved about this place to our friends... turned out it's just ok now. There's no more 750ml Austin Hope wine anymore... dang it. Only the magnum. So We got one of the recs from our server and turned out the wine was not good. Our bad, should have chosen our selves. Then we got the tempura shrimps to share. It was huge and tasty but not worth the $. I got a Caesar salad as well. For entrees I got the rack of NZ lamb, my husband got the ribs. His ribs were pretty cold and my lamb was warm at most. Nothing seemed to be hot. Even my other friend's dishes. I think maybe the party size was too big? There were multiple other large parties too. Took long to come out so we just ate it. Dessert is still good- the multiple layer carrot cake. Meh... maybe next time we'll keep it to 4 and under...

I wish I knew more about the history of the building, which this wonderful resto has now become. Our friendly server told us she only started working there for a few months but did share what she has heard through the grapevine. LOL! I won't share that here in my review, so you'll just have to go check this place out if you wanna know! ;)) We had a wonderful dining experience here! The bread service came out right away, and we enjoyed the plate of pickled veggies! Their portions are massive but most of all, delicious! Ordered the BB'Q Pork Baby-back Ribs, which was super tender and saucy...yum! The hubz and sis both ordered the American Prime Kobe Burger, which was juicy and overflowing with goodness! The special that night was a Bone-in NY Steak, which our buddy ordered and enjoyed (medium rare) and cooked perfectly (thanks, chef!). For dessert, the Key lime pie (special), June's famous crème brûlée, and Vanilla bean ice cream sundae surely did not disappoint! All in all, we left there with happy hearts and full bellies! Thank you McPhee's, we're looking forward to coming back again! Cheers and happy eating till next time!

Outdoor tasting area consisted of a few picnic tables surrounded by plants and string lights. Not a bad place to drink wine if you're not at the vineyard. Sadly, I quickly realized that biodynmic wines are not for me, nor were they for most of us in the group. A few of us ended up dumping multiple of the tastings. It was a cool idea to try a wine product that was as natural as it was, but there's a reason that sulfates are added into wine and that was learned here. The tasting menu had an orange wine on it which was pretty exciting, but still not enough to warrant a re-visit by me. Cool vibes and service, just not my glass of wine.

One fine Saturday, after having finished shopping at the wonderful Templeton Farmers Market just a few blocks away, I decided at random to drive down Main St. to see if anything was interesting. Our eyes where caught by the pop-market & plants in front of this warehouse-like building and we stopped to look. As we literally wandered into the main shop past all the plants outside, I spied this interesting wood paneled nook with a full bar & bottles in the corner. It had a serene look and this nice lady greeted me. It turns out that she was one of the owners. I was curious about at first the olive oil and then when she pointed out their wines & ciders, I was even more interested. I tasted the oil & I think two brews. The Olive Oil was herbaceous & good, but I had already bought three Gold Award winning local EVOO's from local farms and another Templeton winner was at the Farmers Market. One can only use so much EVOO before it gets old. While they had bottled EVOO in a nice bottle with a cork, they also had a big tank of it, to fill your own bottle which I liked. While their brews tend to be on the dry side per the owner, there was one that was to my taste and I bought a bottle. During the conversation, I heard all kinds of nice things about organic, but since alcohol is inherently not that great for you, I only listened causally..until the term Biodynamic came up. I had no clue as to what it was, but it sounded healthy at the time. When I finally came home to look it up at home on Google, I found out that it was kind of a takeoff on pseudo-science, namely, the more well know Homeopathy. As far as I can tell, this was sort of the same thing, but for farming and first thought of in the 1920's, which was in a time when the older pseudoscience, Homeopathy [late 1800's] saw a resurgence in the US. Let us think that in these eras, we did not have a clue about alot of things, especially in medical science. In those days, if your equivalent of a PCP wanted to give you turpentine to drink and you then threw up, I am sure you would possibly latch onto basically magic potion with almost nothing or nothing in it. The placebo effect is naturally so strong that you can have lots of benefit from even blessed water, or even quite a few side effects, like nausea & vomiting. People are terrible test subjects even when the later rigorous formulation of double-blinded Placebo controlled studies became the standard. How do I know? I used to help run some of these studies on some blockbuster medications in Hawaii. Since Hawaii had all kinds of interesting cross-cultural themes, I also found out that the most popular Chemotherapy drug in Japan was sold at doctor's offices [where they made a profit] and it was a placebo....& there was nothing "Homeopathic" about it. It was a culturally specific thing that involved confidence in their doctor, that invoked a placebo response, but ultimately they still typically died from cancer all the same...except for rare spontaneous remissions which do happen regardless of treatment. Oddly enough, I used to buy wine from another vineyard that used crystals to enhance their crops. While I thought it another myth, they still made excellent tasting wine, and I did not have to join a cult to drink it. While the Biodynamic stuff and some other stuff on their website is IMHO rather out there, they do a very nice job of caring for what they do, and creating stuff that has less junk, that one does not need, or can have a reaction to Sulfites. On the other hand, some things can give one pause, like statements like they use natural yeast, and let things sit around for awhile.....or use Clay Amphoras sometimes or Oak Barrels at other times. As someone who is a retired science researcher & has a hobby of making DIY Cider, Probiotic Veges, Natto, and much more, I tend to be really careful with how I make stuff & have had all kinds of run ins with stuff which grows, where I do not want it to. The air contains countless spores or active bacteria, fungus, mold, viruses, etc...and quite a few times they decide to grow where I do not want them. In many cases, the short-term natural preservative is either the rampant growth of your culture or a byproduct like Lactic Acid....or to some degree, the yeast/alcohol mix itself. Longer preservation times involve more complex efforts like canning. In any case, if you want products that have less interventions and still feel comfortable with their techniques, it is worth a try. If you have health conditions that involve the GI or immune system, maybe consult an MD before using such products, since some may contain active cultures for all I know.
