Had an amazing experience at Guest House Grill in Atascadero. The BBQ burger was absolutely delicious -- perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with flavor. We also ordered the caprese appetizer and it was just as good, super fresh and really well done. Quin was our server and she was phenomenal. She was incredibly attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. You can tell she genuinely cares about the guest experience, and it really made our meal even better. Quin is amazing at what she does. Overall, a great experience all around. Cozy interior with a nice covered patio + extended outdoor patio facing Chalk Mountain Golf Course + Rocky Canyon. My wife really enjoyed her bacon and goat cheese sandwich with the seasoned tomatoes on side. I loved my California Benedict. Only knock was the service was a little slow with only one server for most the covered patio. Well executed establishment that's equal parts classy, cozy, and still casual. We've eaten here numerous times over the years. The food is always great and until recently so has been the service. We ate here a month ago and again this week. Service both times was very poor. We rarely saw our server the entire meal. This time once we were given the check she didn't come back. We had to go to the bar to find her in order to pay. read more

This impromptu lunch was so pleasant! The ambiance at Christmas is really amazing. They go all out with the decorations. Teddy bears galore! We began with an appetizer, the artichoke - smokey, grilled and charred perfectly - served with a grilled half of a lemon. We also had the brussel sprouts appetizer - served with an amazing sauce. Not quite a bbq sauce but not spicy either. We shared a plate of orzo with asparagus and salmon. This was so buttery and flavorful. Salmon portion was good for sharing and that orzo...I could have bathed in that sauce!! A few cocktails shared and the sweet bartender brought us a special drink called the chocolate covered elf. Lovely service, it was a Friday night and they accommodated our larger party straight away. We got the jalapeño rings and calamari for appetizers and both get great. Not too greasy and right spice in the jalapeno. Ambience was fine, Atascadero is a small town, so don't expect anything too lively but it's good for a quiet meal. Went in at 7:30 for my reservation, at 8:00 water finally came to the table, at 8:30 our bread came to the table, I was hoping the food was worth the wait when it came at 9 - my potatoes were wayyyy overcooked and chalky but my steak was raw and purple. In addition, thank you for accommodating my dairy free requests. - I have very little feedback. The restaurant was well laid out and the restrooms were very clean. The price point reflects the large portion sizes and the high-quality service. I also appreciate their willingness to fill my reusable cup and provide my to go order in environmentally friendly cardboard containers. We went back for lunch this week on Thursday. My daughter and I took the grandsons after visiting the zoo. We had great coffee with real half and half. Goodrich but not bitter coffee. The boys had hot cocoa. It was raining outside and we needed to warm up. The boys shared a spaghetti kids lunch and Caden always eats it all and says it's delicious Amber and I were trying to eat low carb so we both ordered fish tacos. I think this item needs a make over. Pickled cabbage would be great. Pickled red onions were slippery and slimy texture. Not appetizing. Fish didn't smell great. I ate must of one taco. My daughter couldn't do it. I got the manager and he comped our whole lunch. Our server an older woman was not very pleasant. She snapped at me a few times when we were first interacting with her and I was shocked. She also didn't know they served hot cocoa. She should know to add more milk to kids drinks so we had to cook them down using all of the coffee creamer. She was really slow to take our food orders initially and I had to insist she get the orders in. When you have hungry little kids they can get bratty if food isn't coming out quick enough. Another thing a good waitress would be attentive to. The manager says he was district manager and this location is without a manager currently and he is trying to make it better. This was a stormy day. And my mother in law's 90th. My brother in law came down for the week & we spent a week of eating out. She didn't want a big party. She just wanted to spend time with her sons. Decided to give Guesthouse a try...in spite of some negative reviews. I'm glad we did!! Lunch was amazing... We started with bottled sparkling water service... then a Raspberry Lemondrop (so fresh and bright) and a Handshake Old Fashion (smooth and bold). The fire-roasted artichoke came out perfectly tender... then the entrées stole the show... a bacon onion jam burger that hit every note... the special sandwich... and a Philly cheesesteak made with prime rib that was out of this world. Dessert was the dream finish... crème brûlée with that perfect crackle... and creamy gelato that sealed the deal. But the real highlight was our server Quin... absolutely a pro... warm, attentive, and made the whole experience unforgettable. Definitely give this place a try! read more

My last two visits to Guest House have been truly awful. Last visit we arrived at 5:30 pm. Ordering took a while, and the food didn't get to the table until 6:45 pm. The water didn't get refilled all night after the original carafe. The 20% gratuity is added on to the ticket with an ask for more. Checking out took a long time and was exacerbated by the server not knowing how to use the new POS technology. The previous time was even worse if possible. That time I had the distinct impression that the server didn't care about the service given because the gratuity was automatic. Guest House Grill used to be one of my go to places. It has become one of my have to places and I only go if the group I'm in wants to go. I wonder if their take out orders are overwhelming the kitchen? read more

Best live music on a weeknight. We came in on a Tuesday and heard Laura sing; it was lovely and the atmosphere so fun. We sat at the bar with Devon as our bartender and he is amazing. I selected the Cobb Salad, with grilled chicken. The salad arrived and looked impressive. Beneath the pile of freshly fried onion strings was blue cheese, a sliced hard cooked egg, sliced cherry tomatoes, crumbled bacon, fresh avocado, and sliced grilled chicken. It usually has black olives, but I'm not a fan. The accompanying dressing was the perfect amount to coat the salad and not drown the assorted toppings. The restaurant offers a full bar with beers on tap. The menu is extensive and has options for all appetites. My ticket was a complete disaster. I was charged an extra $20 for beers i didn't order. Greens were nice and fresh but the salmon smelled very fishy and had a dark under layer that should have been removed in the kitchen. There was feta on the salad, which is an odd mix with salmon. The feta was sour and salty, it would be so much better if they sourced for a different supplier, it doesn't need to taste like that. Little tomato's were not the best, but I get it, it's winter. First time ever I've had an iced tea that was undrinkable. Literally tasted like coffee. Wondering if coffee and tea share that same brewer? I preface my review with the knowing what the locals feel. They are honest and I'm sure it was offensive for them to experience let alone write about a not so good visit to The Guest House Grill. My 2nd star is for our waitress. Nuff said but wait! You need to hear/read about my experience. I wanted to support the local establishments of Acascadero and GHG was open on a Sunday night. I did read the reviews prior to making a decision and after selecting GHG, I reminded myself of my tag line "I will try anything once". We were seated 1 hour prior to their closing time. Our food was delivered in mach time. My dining partner ordered the fish and chips which according to him, the fish was great (snapper I'm told). I ordered the surf and turf and anyone who knows me will attest that I am a carnivore snob. I ordered my steak 'MEDIUM RARE", I get it rare and the meat had so many strings of fat inside of it that I struggled cutting the meat. The lobster was done medium rare. Fortunately, I can eat raw fish so I ate the lobster and left the steak. The broccolini was not cleaned; the outside skin was on and tough. As a rule and with regard to my steak, I'll cut into it smack center. What a mess. Raw; not even Rare.... So, I called this to our waitress' attention who said in this order 1- I can have the kitchen put the steak back on the grill (anyone in food knows you cannot re fire a steak) and I pointed this out to her 2- She offered a new steak to which I declined as by now it was up to their closing hour and I'm sure the kitchen would not want to fire up a new steak for me 3- She said she will speak to the manager who rightfully removed the entire meal from the bill. I sent everything back almost untouched (with the exception of the lobster) She came back to say the manager removed my order from the bill. Kudos to our waitress for trying so hard to please. Oh by the way, the employees were off the clock I assume as they were sitting on the bar ending their night. Loud if I may say and very unprofessional. I hope the management and/or owner reads my review because I am an honest reviewer not out to hurt anyone but to help. Maybe they can make an effort to improve on the front and back of the house. If I can rate this restaurant more than five stars, I would've already done it. To begin with, the service is AMAZING. Right when we walked in, ALL staffs were so nice already. They were VERY attentive even with asking for water. I'm from the bay, so I love a good service with really polite staff. The ambiance of this restaurant is also very rustic vibes. The wait staff was amazing. Nice complimentary bread and pesto to start. It was Prime Rib night but they ran out by the time we arrived at 5:45. You might want to call ahead if that is what you are going there for. My husband liked his Ahi Tacos but my Western Salad was a disappointment with only an about a tablespoon of each item on a bowl of greens . Tablespoon of black beans, tablespoon of cheese, tablespoon of tomatoes. You get the picture. Very stingy serving size for an entree salad. This salad used to be a favorite but it has really changed.
