The environment is really fun. This would be a 5-star review, but the prices are a little high and there are many extra/hidden fees. Had excellent service, got a great table, super nice wait staff (2), really good fresh lime margaritas (very good!!) rimmed as per our request with salt and sugar. Heavy on the ice, but the waitress brought us lime and sugar sauce to soak it up with. I'd ask for less ice next time. The ceasar with chicken left something to be desired. I am not sure if they pre dressed it or not, but we needed more dressing, but it was not appetising (and I LOVE ceasar salad) so we hardly touched it. Perfect dinner for 2 tonight. Got the Ahi tostadas and half rack of ribs and both were delicious! Also had Fig Mountain danish red on tap (my fav) and a decent Chardonnay (could be better wine choices here!). Also got a salad which was very good - lots of tasty blue cheese crumbles on it! Jack's is truly a hidden gem in Templeton. Like just about everything in Templeton Jacks looks like it's been there forever with western charm. Busy Thursday night during Graduation season and we got the last available table inside. The large parties were being seated on the outside patio with heaters. The cocktail menu was a good start to the evening and I went with the server's recommendation. Service was excellent and friendly. We both ordered the Bbq Pork Sandwiches with the Ranch beans and coleslaw. Coleslaw comes on the sandwich as well just as i like it. Hardy portions so we both had enough to take home. We find the small town smoke house to have delicious food & fantastic service! Liz took great care of us while we sat at the bar & ate Trash Can Nachos and a Tri Tip dinner. Everything was cooked perfectly! The drinks Liz made were smooth & delicious!! Our favorite dessert is the Drunken Apple Crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!! Often we come here just for that! I've always thought that jack was going to be so oberpriced that I have avoided it until now. The prices come out to about 20 pp if you stick to a sandwich or l burger. They have more expensive options as well and you can make upgrades to your sides as well. I always enjoy the music they are playing which is mostly stuff I listened to in the 90s. There are outdoor seating with heaters or indoor seating. All the staff has been super great each time we go. It's definitely now on my rotation of places to go eat. read more

I'm just going to say this. I went for my birthday.. My kids took me and I'd rather have gone anywhere else. My dinner was fine. I had ribs. My son's on the other hand was awful.. The waitress never once offered to refire or redo or even get something else.. I had to wait all this time because I was so angry, I'm not even sure what to call the service. It was abysmal.. The waitress was so rude.. Arguing with my son about his meal.. Honestly, I was just sorry. Sorry that after exploring what was available, this is the place I decided on.. This was almost 2 weeks ago. I'm still disappointed.. I really wanted to go and have a good meal, some nice conversations. Not to mention that they barely had a table large enough for 5. I really felt like I was asking a lot for a table we could all fit.. I understood that it was a nice place, we were going to have a decent dinner.. Very wrong.. It was miserable.. It's unfortunate that I have to write this review, but given the terrible food and even worse customer service we experienced last night, I feel it's important to share so others can decide whether they want to spend their money elsewhere--especially in this economy. Last night, my family went to Jack's to celebrate an important family occasion and also to celebrate the fact that I was finally feeling better after recently recovering from food poisoning from a different local restaurant. Jack's has always been our "safe" place. We have been loyal customers for years, frequenting both the Templeton and Paso Robles locations. My mom has dementia, and Jack's is one of the few places where she feels comfortable and happy, which makes this experience even more upsetting. There were six of us at dinner. I ordered a burger, and halfway through eating it, I pulled a long strand of hair out of my mouth that had been cooked into the burger. Everyone at the table was horrified. The entire table stopped eating immediately--no one could continue after seeing that. I informed our waitress, who rushed past our table saying she was sorry and would get the manager and comp the burger. She didn't stop to apologize or speak with us, but she was new and in training, so we gave her grace. Another waitress later came by and said the burger would be remade. At that point, I had zero interest in eating it, but we waited anyway while everyone sat there disgusted and no one touched their food. When the bill arrived, I was shocked to see that I was charged for the burger. We asked to speak with the manager, Jessica, who told us that because the burger was remade, they were going to charge me for it. That is completely unacceptable. At a minimum, the burger should have been comped--and frankly, the entire meal should have been comped since no one enjoyed their food and the entire experience was ruined. Jessica argued with me and said it was their policy to charge for remade food. She also said she would not comp the meal. I explained that I had just recovered from food poisoning and this was my first meal out, and she responded by saying it wasn't her fault I had food poisoning--which entirely missed the point. I then asked that she contact the owners. After some time, she returned and said the owners agreed to comp the meal but also said that if I didn't like the customer service, I didn't have to come back. Jessica then walked away while I was mid-sentence, which was incredibly disrespectful. Four out of the six people at our table have worked (or currently work) in customer service. Several of us have worked in food service. Charging a customer for food that had to be remade due to the restaurant's mistake is unacceptable. Arguing with a customer after serving food contaminated with hair is unacceptable. Walking away while a customer is speaking is unacceptable. The appropriate response should have been sincere apologies, immediate comping of the meal, and a genuine effort to make things right. Jessica did none of that. She was rude, dismissive, and argumentative. We will not be returning to Jack's unless the restaurant reaches out with a sincere apology and a genuine effort to address how this situation was handled. This was a deeply disappointing experience from a place my family once trusted. read more

Jack's has been my go to for sometime when I go out to eat, which is not often. A colleague came in for training so I treated them to lunch. I ordered my usually Rueben - theirs is the best as it was always STACKED with meat on perfectly toasted Rye spilling out the edges with the sauerkraut and melted cheese. It always appeared to be a challenge to work for that first bite! What a disappointment.. the entire sandwich was thinner than the meat alone that used to come on it.. the bread was a little soggy. Last time I was in town I had the privilege of having Liz as my bartender... She made me a killer Bloody Mary with all the fixings and was very talkative and nice to me...She's fun & was laughing & everybody around her was talking to her like if they known her forever, she has a lot of customers I could see that gravitate to her... She brought out some fries I ordered then it was good so I ordered... a vegan burger and it was awesome. I will definitely be returning!!! My partner and I love coming here for a good burger & tri tip sandwich. Ever since we've moved to SLO county, eating here or ordering take out has always been a bliss. The staff is always super kind and very attentive- both for dining in and take out- they make sure we're well taken cared for. The restaurant has their own parking lot and also plenty of curbside parking, just be sure to come when it's not rush hour- it might be difficult to find parking then. There's options to eat either inside or outside- either are great options! OKAY THE FOOD: Every time we visit, we ALWAYS get an order of Alphie Fries - they're super yummy and best fresh! My boyfriend loves their tri tip sandwich and always gets sweet potato fries on the side. For this trip, I got an order of the BBQ wings which were a little too saucy for me, but totally delicious! Typically, I'll get their BBQ burger which is HUGE and VERY filling (I usually end up having to take home the rest of it). So, across the street I look -- and it's got people! Vibe, bring it. I sat at the nice bar. Nice bartender. Nice man next to me to chat with. Real nice. The menu has lots of great options (ie. Burgers), but when I see a Pulled Pork sammy, I gotta do it. Served with a choice of fries, beans, or slaw. Well, wow. It was so delicious. I got the beans, housemade, but a little bland. Located on the main drag, is Jack's Bar & Grill. It's small town, country, restaurant/bar. You can park on the street, side street, or their small to medium sized lot. You first walk through the outdoor dinning to get to the main door. There you are welcomed and usually wait a couple of mins for a table. Today the server (Iveth, what the receipt said) was on point. She was very attentive and delivered awesome service. I ordered the Pretzel & Cheese, Onion Rings, and the Classic Burger (substituted with Beyond Patty) w/ Sidewinders. The pretzels came in 3 like bread sticks, with a house made cheese. The pretzel was fluffy, salty, with slight hardened shell. It was good. The cheese was an awesome, melty, smokey, deep cheese flavor, with a little kick and spice, Delicious. The Onion Rings were good, but wish they had a little heavier batter/crunch. The Classic Burger (Substitute Beyond Patty) was good. The fresh onion, lettuce, and tomato brought a garden freshness to it. The brioche bun was toasted on the outside and fluffy/airy in the middle. The Beyond patty had a nice grilled char and juicy, meaty taste. The Cheddar Cheese brought that sharpe, fatty, melted deliciousness. The Sidewinders.....the sidewinders.... Well, they had a nice fast food fries spiciness, but I could taste fish. Obviously, same oil has the fish & chips. Due to the thickness, I think it absorbed more of the oil, compared to the skinny fries. They had a nice cooked, fluffy, potato middle, but the outside could've had a better crisp. We are staying in our RV down the street and called Jack's for a to-go order, last night. The staff was so sweet the offered utensils. The food was AMAZING! Wow best mash potatoes I've ever had. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and the tritip sandwich was to die for. Thank you staff!! read more

STAY CLEAR of this Restaurant- So disappointed in the quality of food! Tasteless calamari. Plus this restaurant had numerous flies all over the restaurant.. flying into your face and eyes, and they have the audacity to charge an operational fee?? Feel as if I want my money back! So, just to start off, we weren't given silverware or a napkin. We ended up having to go track it down our self because the staff was talking behind the bar the full meal. After I finished eating, I went to wait for the bathroom because someone was using it. After a while, I heard the toilet flush, and the door immediately opened (no handwashing took place) and the guy went into the kitchen!!!! He was a cook!!! I was incredibly disgusted. Not that it matters what he was doing in the bathroom, but it stunk, and I can guarantee he didn't wash his hands in the bathroom. When Jack's is good, it's really good and when it's bad ... it's awful. It's a total crap shoot which you get. Tonight was in the awful category. Picked up a Tri-tip sandwich and fries. Should have gone to Albertsons and picked up a bag of frozen fries and their deli Tri-tip. The sandwich from Jack's was not the thick, juicy, med-rare cuts on a grilled French role as seen in many of the photos here. It was thin slices, dry, tough, and one notch above jerky. It wasn't even sliced across the grain - it was sliced with the grain making it even tougher. Rookie mistake. The role was plain and buttered, definitely not grilled. The fries tasted like they were made yesterday, refrigerated overnight and reheated - dried out and chewy. Even the cole slaw was wilty. I so want to like this place. Their other restaurants are consistently good and some of my favs, but not this one. They really have a quality issue at Jack's in Templeton and it's been a problem for at least a couple of years now. I used to take all our friends here and got take out all the time. Love this place. Went on a work trip and this restaurant was highly recommended. I was highly satisfied. I am picky. I ordered the ribeye medium and it was cooked to perfection! Chefs kiss. The veggies were green beans and broccoli cooked to perfection as well. Still crunchy with flavor. Cheese toast could have been a bit more toasty for me but it was still very delicious. And the house salad was wonderful the ratio of veggies and mix with bleu cheese crumbles so delicious. I also ordered a margarita with mezcal. Wow so delicious I ordered a second. The waiters name was Lalo I believe I'm so sorry if I butchered that. He was very kind and read a person very well. Checked on me just enough and not too pushy. Also recommended a delicious mezcal.
