The reviews on this place were an interesting read - most recently the seeming downtrend. We went to try it out anyway. I needed a good steak and this place had good steak. Not a far stretch, it was around 7 blocks away from our hotel. The front is adorned in BOLD LETTERS - STEAKHOUSE. I saw it as we drove by, and I knew we'd be going there. The current place has a kind of "cowboy" theme. It isn't too in your face, very subtle. We sat down and water and a nice loaf of bread with salted butter were quickly provided. The bread was very good, nice crust, nice and warm, and the salted butter (salt on top of the butter) was very tasty. The waiter offered a bottle of wine which wasn't on the wine list - a Jordan Cabernet (in PASO???? Jordan is a Napa Valley winery - ZOUNDS!) from 2021, so I jumped at the chance for that! My wife and I both ordered their 7 ounce filet, medium rare, she with the Broccolini and myself with the carrots. After dinner, I ordered a chocolate tort, which was very tasty. This review is just for the bar, we came in for a drink before the New Year's Eve bonfire across the street and snagged a spot at the bar. They had a great wine list featuring a ton of local wineries as well as some European and other California options. The cocktail list was fairly small, but they had one cocktail featuring each of the main liquors. I didn't see them listed on the menu, but they also had a barrel aged negroni and one other in a barrel. I opted for an espresso martini, perfect to keep the night going since we had a dinner reservation a little bit later. After the espresso tini my boyfriend and I shared another cocktail and also got a side of broccolini to snack on, because what says bar snack like broccolini? We keep hearing how amazing the prime rib is so we gave you a try tonight. Maybe bad timing as it is graduation night. Steak was overcooked. Salmon was overcooked. People next to us sent their overcooked steak back to the kitchen. Mashed potatoes tasted like instant. Ordered a mocktail, served a cocktail. Server tried to offer me alcohol 4 times, maybe just not paying attention to my comments that I do not drink alcohol. We were seated at 750pm. Food arrived at 8:50pm, overcooked. Was a bit discouraged to see the low, or average rating on The Steakhouse. In nearly 5 years I've lived here, we had never visited this establishment, right off Spring Street, across from the square. I had a coworker in from SF, who wanted to buy me a steak dinner for my retirement. He had done his homework and wanted to check out The Steakhouse. We started upstairs with drinks and had made reservations but the crowd on a Tuesday at 6pm was very light. However, going anywhere in Paso, you should make reservations. We were quickly seated after walking downstairs and greeted immediately by our service who took our drink orders. The busboy delivered us fresh bread and butter while we were provided the specials of the day, moments later. Much like upstairs at the bar, the decor and ambience was similar. Very western and cowboy-like but that was to be expected. The dining room was divided into a few different areas, all the windows seating was taken and we ended up at a booth. Overall the dining area was quiet and we enjoyed our table. We were given time to look over the menu and spent more time talking than deciding on dinner. However, the third time the waiter came back we placed our orders. We each ordered the 7 oz. filet mignon, my buddy got the Brandy Peppercorn sauce and a side of garlic mashed potatoes. I paired my fillet with mac & cheese, with no sauce and was not disappointed. The steaks were finished to our liking, mine medium-rare, his medium. Full of flavor and really nice making our dinner very enjoyable. We even got more bread and butter! The potatoes and mac & cheese were excellent as well. After dinner we got a few glasses of bubbly and were presented with a slice of chocolate cake to help celebrate my retirement, courtesy of The Steakhouse. Attending a birthday party down the street, we didn't have reservations on a Friday evening. They were able to easily accommodate our party of 8. Visit on 9/21/2025 @ 5pm - WOW! Based on the mixed reviews here and on Google, I wasn't sure what to expect. I am a local but have not dined at the Steakhouse in about 10 years. I was looking for a nice place to take a work colleague who was visiting our area. My friend had dined here a couple weeks ago and said it was great so I rolled the dice. I was impressed with the lobby and the dining room in general. It is has a nice, warm feeling. I asked for a booth which had a pleasant view of the garden. We were greeted by Sean our server who was an absolute delight! He was funny, charming and put everyone at ease right away. I had a feeling we were off to a good start when the bread arrived...it was a sliced sourdough? loaf and was warm and delicious! The butter was whipped and so soft...just wonderful. We order the Classic Ceasar and split it three ways, as Sean mentioned it was a big salad...and it was. The dressing was just right. For our main courses we chose the Harissa Shrimp, the 7oz Filet Mignon and the Smoked Pecan Crusted Salmon. My husband got the shrimp and he was moping up the sauce with the bread! He said it had a bit of a kick and he really enjoyed it. I got the salmon and I was delighted. The squash puree with the pecan crust was just perfect...it was so good! My colleague ordered the filet and said it was a bit "done" but said it tasted wonderful. We also ordered the loaded baked potatoes and while some of the reviews mentioned the toppings were skimpy, ours were not. My colleague really enjoyed the variety they offered. We were to full for dessert but look forward to trying those next time! I took off a star because the sides are all separate and that is annoying, and expensive. $11 for a baked potato? The hostess was just ok, not rude just not as welcoming as I would have expected but it was 5pm and they had just opened so maybe she hadn't warmed up yet. Overall, we will be back! read more

It's been awhile since we had dinner at the steakhouse but we were amazed at the excellent service and extraordinary dinner we enjoyed the ribeye steak with a side of mushrooms and garlic potatoes and the smoked pecan crusted salmon with squash puree. Looking forward to a ribeye and when we got here, the regular menu was not available... only the Christmas Day menu... day after Christmas and yet this was limited to just this menu. Such a great historical spot on the central coast. Stopped in this time for Mothers Day Brunch. Huge selection of items, delicious desserts and all the prime rib you could eat. Witnessed on mans rude and entitled demands to the Matre'd spouting if he didn't get his way he would leave a bad review...disgusting how people act today... We had not been to this Steakhouse in a number of years. Since we had been, it's been remodeled beautifully. Our server Ashley was so nice and friendly. She had a big party in one of the rooms and people outside, but still made sure we were ok. I had 2) Old Fashions and my husband had 2) Bombay sapphires on the rocks, both excellent. Good bread came prior to dinner. That was nice as some restaurants now charge you. I had Filet mignon, baby carrots, and these fantastic potatoes. Some of the items on the menu have changed, and are not as good as they once were. One example is the iceberg wedge salad. It used to have a variety of vegetables, such as onions and tomatoes and maybe some nuts, as well as chopped bacon. The salad dressing was either blue cheese or ranch. Now the salad consists of three items: the lettuce, one slice of bacon-not chopped, and a big hunk of blue cheese. It was drenched in Green Goddess dressing. I miss the old recipe! On another note, there was a cocktail called Marilyn's Kiss. I can't remember the exact ingredients, but I believe it included 7-Up, grenadine syrup, and vodka. It too, has changed. We went on a Sunday night and instead of one thick steak, we were served 3 tiny, overcooked, overpriced pieces of steak. In addition, my child ordered linguine pasta with Parmesan cheese and butter and got shells and tons of butter. When we asked the waiter, he looked at the child's menu and said there must be a typo. On Saturday 10/25/25 around 7-8pm One of the bartenders actually asked for a tip before providing any service and made it clear we wouldn't be helped otherwise or to ask his coworkers ( the one with dark longer hair - nice guy). So empty.... they charged us $900 for 2 nights. Room was dirty, they don't offer water, the AC does not work, and the bed is uncomfortable. Restaurant was empty but they still require a reservation. Cup of coffee was $13. Pool is very small and you can't play music. Looks big in pictures but it's tiny. Service is terrible. Don't look back. Steak is like leather. Too tough to even chew. Don't be fooled by pictures of the cabanas by the pool. The pool is tiny and full of little kids. And, they advertise a free wine tasting.... but it's a joke. We came here as a family of 4. They have a good kids menu with plenty of options. My husband ordered their signature prime rib and I ordered a Cesar salad. The presentation of the food was as expected and the chimichurri sauce paired well with the rib. I also liked how nicely the mashed potatoes were presented. We visited the bar at the Paso Robles Inn and the same thing happend to me when I was staying at the hotel in 2022: This time we only stayed at the bar for drinks, our bill was including tips $44.24, however returning from the weekend I check ny credit card and there is a charge of $50.10! Birthday dinner became go find another restaurant that is open late and has takeout bc we had no other option but to eat in our room with chopsticks. Went there for Mother's Day Brunch - manager was terrible and rude!!! Served in the military for over 30 years and this manager would not even try to sort out a reservation that booked incorrectly. They were in a warm goat cheese fondue and cooked in a house made vinaigrette and absolutely delicious!! This place was an easy stop for our lunch/brunch time, since it wasn't too busy and our waitress was super nice, I think our only grievance was the hotel guests who kept gathering in the walkway and shouting and impairing our view of the koi pond, which isn't the restaurants fault, that's on the family who brought their dog and stopped in front of people trying to eat so they could have a not so quick conversation. read more

We received great service from the moment we were greeted at the reservation desk. The servers were outstanding. We asked to split our meal and they accommodated without any drama or hassle. Six with dinner reservations took 45 minutes to get our meal after ordering upon arrival. Ironically, the waiter was good but the kitchen was astoundingly slow. The last time I ate here the steaks were terribly overcooked. This time, when dinner finally arrived, the steaks were very good as were the shrimp, though the mushrooms were smothered in far too much butter. However, this time the bill was troublesome. It was quite high and an itemized receipt was not provided. I did not have time to request one to review as everyone had already begun to exit. I'm left to wonder if a service or "living wage" was included but the receipt I was provided merely requested a tip which I provided. In the end, I've read too many critical reviews that coupled with my recent experiences neither compels me to return nor make a recommendation that others should, too. read more

The issue though was a few of us had to wait for our waters to be refilled, and eventually had to ask the busser. Ambiance inside was ok. The best part through was walking the outside grounds while it was still daylight and seeing the koi pond and outdoor area for the hotel. The food is where we were disappointed. A few of us ordered the $70 14oz rib eye and it was way too thin, only 1/2 to maybe 2/3 inches thick. The meat itself was also very lean and almost no cap. I ordered it medium rare but it came out medium (probably because it was so thin). Seasoning was good, but for the price it was a major disappointment. Another one of us ordered the prime rib and that also was very lean. I'd say all the steaks were at or below choice, and that's being generous. The Steakhouse is the restaurant at the Paso Robles Inn. I've eaten there many times over the years. The ambiance is casual but elegant. Tables and booths are spaced to give a feeling of privacy. The staff are professional and friendly. Service is always great. They have a full bar and a compact but very good locally sourced wine list. The menu is compact but offers something for all tastes, even those who didn't come for a steak... Prices are reasonable. This time, I was determined to have their molten lava cake to make sure it really is as decadently delicious as I remembered, so we had cocktails up in the lounge since there was a cold wind blowing. The Steakhouse has its roots in early Paso Robles. El Paso de Robles, or "Pass of the Oaks" was originally part of a 25,000-acre Spanish land grant. It was a rest stop for travelers on the Camino Real Trail and was known for its mineral hot springs. After local railroad service started in 1886, the area began getting more visitors, and in 1889, Paso Robles was incorporated as a city. The Steakhouse has been here since the beginning and once you try their food you'll understand why. If you're a bit picky about your salad dressing anount ask for it on the side. If you get a to go box have your steak and potato left overs in 1 box and the rest in another. With their generous portions Im dure you will have leftovers. read more

Food was ok although service was good. We expected more from the Steak Bites which were more like a salad with pieces of steak and toast. Chicken schnitzel was ok although it could have been pounded thinner. On the plus side corkage was waived because we brought in a local wine. We wanted a more upscale experience and this sounded like it would work but we'll opt to dine more casually next time if our top choices (Dellas and The Hatch) are not open. read more
