Enjoyed a delightful dinner here! Ordered filet, a Caesar salad baked potato and a side of mushrooms. All items definitely met and exceeded my expectations. My filet was cooked perfectly, rare just as I usually order it and the potato was delicious. The side of mushrooms paired nicely with the filet. Cocktails were great a Manhattan and for desert a Chocolate Martini-

Was a bit discouraged to see the low, or average rating on The Steakhouse. In nearly 5 years I've lived here, we had never visited this establishment, right off Spring Street, across from the square. I had a coworker in from SF, who wanted to buy me a steak dinner for my retirement. He had done his homework and wanted to check out The Steakhouse. We started upstairs with drinks and had made reservations but the crowd on a Tuesday at 6pm was very light. However, going anywhere in Paso, you should make reservations. We were quickly seated after walking downstairs and greeted immediately by our service who took our drink orders. The busboy delivered us fresh bread and butter while we were provided the specials of the day, moments later. Much like upstairs at the bar, the decor and ambience was similar. Very western and cowboy-like but that was to be expected. The dining room was divided into a few different areas, all the windows seating was taken and we ended up at a booth. Overall the dining area was quiet and we enjoyed our table. We were given time to look over the menu and spent more time talking than deciding on dinner. However, the third time the waiter came back we placed our orders. We each ordered the 7 oz. filet mignon, my buddy got the Brandy Peppercorn sauce and a side of garlic mashed potatoes. I paired my fillet with mac & cheese, with no sauce and was not disappointed. The steaks were finished to our liking, mine medium-rare, his medium. Full of flavor and really nice making our dinner very enjoyable. We even got more bread and butter! The potatoes and mac & cheese were excellent as well. After dinner we got a few glasses of bubbly and were presented with a slice of chocolate cake to help celebrate my retirement, courtesy of The Steakhouse. We were both impressed with the quality and price of the meal. Would I return? I sure would, had a great experience and great food.

I've heard not so good things from several locals. Still, I have wanting to try it. Well, sigh, I recently dined here and it was not so good. Attending a birthday party down the street, we didn't have reservations on a Friday evening. They were able to easily accommodate our party of 8. That's certainly great, but just tells you it's not packed. Our server was very nice and competent. The menu small, pricey, but had several things that sounded good to me. I ordered the short rib, and at 7pm on Friday night, they were out of it. Ugh. Well, the next ugh was how long it took once we ordered until they delivered our appetizers and meal. 90 mins. Our group were various degrees out of their minds. Another ugh. I went for the: ============ 1. Hot Oysters Casino (6 of the smallest oysters I've ever had with smoked bacon, garlic butter, charred lemon). They were good, but just too small of bites. [$24, 3.5 stars] 2. Steakhouse Classic Burger (8oz steak blend, cheese, avocado, bacon, onion, brioche bun). It was a quality burger, nice texture, and well presented. [$24, 4.0 stars] Overall, food was decent. Prices are high. Service is not good. 3.5 stars, but rounded down.

2nd time here. Very busy but had reservations and got right in. Our server was Eli and he was truly wonderful!! Great recommendations on the wine. Will ask for him again. Ribeye, loaded potato and wedge salad with a candied bacon an dressing that was soooooo delicious!

Visit on 9/21/2025 @ 5pm - WOW! Based on the mixed reviews here and on Google, I wasn't sure what to expect. I am a local but have not dined at the Steakhouse in about 10 years. I was looking for a nice place to take a work colleague who was visiting our area. My friend had dined here a couple weeks ago and said it was great so I rolled the dice. I was impressed with the lobby and the dining room in general. It is has a nice, warm feeling. I asked for a booth which had a pleasant view of the garden. We were greeted by Sean our server who was an absolute delight! He was funny, charming and put everyone at ease right away. I had a feeling we were off to a good start when the bread arrived...it was a sliced sourdough? loaf and was warm and delicious! The butter was whipped and so soft...just wonderful. We order the Classic Ceasar and split it three ways, as Sean mentioned it was a big salad...and it was. The dressing was just right. For our main courses we chose the Harissa Shrimp, the 7oz Filet Mignon and the Smoked Pecan Crusted Salmon. My husband got the shrimp and he was moping up the sauce with the bread! He said it had a bit of a kick and he really enjoyed it. I got the salmon and I was delighted. The squash puree with the pecan crust was just perfect...it was so good! My colleague ordered the filet and said it was a bit "done" but said it tasted wonderful. We also ordered the loaded baked potatoes and while some of the reviews mentioned the toppings were skimpy, ours were not. My colleague really enjoyed the variety they offered. We were to full for dessert but look forward to trying those next time! I took off a star because the sides are all separate and that is annoying, and expensive. $11 for a baked potato? The hostess was just ok, not rude just not as welcoming as I would have expected but it was 5pm and they had just opened so maybe she hadn't warmed up yet. Overall, we will be back!

It's been awhile since we had dinner at the steakhouse but we were amazed at the excellent service and extraordinary dinner we enjoyed the ribeye steak with a side of mushrooms and garlic potatoes and the smoked pecan crusted salmon with squash puree. The wine list was supportive of our great local wines. We ended our meal with the apple raisin cobbler and it was very good. This is a special place to enjoy an amazing evening out.

Had a wonderful Sunday Brunch in the newly remodeled Steakhouse. The portions were generous, the service was friendly and prompt, and the restaurant itself was comfortable and elegant. Because it was such a beautiful first day of March we elected to sit on the patio out back near the Koi ponds and it was perfect.

So it's been a few years since we were here. Made a reservation through Open Table. Looking forward to a ribeye and when we got here, the regular menu was not available... only the Christmas Day menu... day after Christmas and yet this was limited to just this menu. Hostess as well as our server was quick to blame the Chef. Had I known I was limited I would have made reservations elsewhere. Nevertheless, I didn't want to look for another place. They were out of the empanada appetizer so went with the strawberry spinach salad and pozole. Server, I believe was Anna, was fantastic. She split both the soup and salad at no charge. Pozole was great. The drinks were also very good. Filet was cooked good, but was tough for a filet and truly lacked seasoning. Tried to make the best of our limited choices and our server was also doing the same. Not so happy with our food. Next time I'll go elsewhere.

Thumbs down

Our friends went to the steakhouse on Friday night and raved about their filets. We went on a Sunday night and instead of one thick steak, we were served 3 tiny, overcooked, overpriced pieces of steak. In addition, my child ordered linguine pasta with Parmesan cheese and butter and got shells and tons of butter. When we asked the waiter, he looked at the child's menu and said there must be a typo. A very odd response. Needless to say, our child did not touch the shells. No offer of comping the meal or anything (and we aren't the type to ask) was made. The place looked nice from the outside and the ambiance was what you'd expected, but the quality of the food was not where it should be for the price point.

We had not been to this Steakhouse in a number of years. Since we had been, it's been remodeled beautifully. Our server Ashley was so nice and friendly. She had a big party in one of the rooms and people outside, but still made sure we were ok. I had 2) Old Fashions and my husband had 2) Bombay sapphires on the rocks, both excellent. Good bread came prior to dinner. That was nice as some restaurants now charge you. I had Filet mignon, baby carrots, and these fantastic potatoes. My husband had prime rib, asparagus, and a wild mushroom ragout. Both dinners were great, no room for desert. We loved the both we sat in as they were higher than most for privacy. Definitely will be back, maybe for breakfast.

And I am so embarrassed to have recommended this restaurant to dozens of people. We raved to our friends about this place and this burger in particular. So, when we traveled with them to Paso Robles this week, we took them there on Thursday night. We passed on having the Wagyu 8 oz. burger and fries at In Bloom (Michelin listed) the night before in anticipation of this burger. Service was abysmal. We sat for quite some time with no service. My wife went in and asked where our server was? Finally, a woman showed up and said our waiter would be with us shortly. Sometime later, a friendly waiter arrived. He was obviously new, under-trained, and spread too thin. He was very personable, but our drinks sat on the bar for a long time and my wife had to go in and ask if she could take then. "No, the waiter will bring them out." Meanwhile, our friends were sipping on their drinks. We got our appetizers and then ordered our meals. The food came quickly, maybe too quickly, and I noticed no egg yolk oozing out (it was halved for us in the kitchen) and the burger overall was much thinner than the last time and the arugula was so wet under the patty. So, we ate a couple bites of it and it just did not taste right. I opened it up to find a baked or boiled grey patty with no crispy bacon wrapping. The bacon was soft, I mean boiled soft and was a small lump on top of the burger patty, not even close to crispy. More like a damp towel. The avocado was sliced but not spread out, so stuck on the left side. The egg was hard cooked with a solid yolk. No pepper to be found. I showed the waiter who was stunned. He thought we were kidding. The manger came out, looked at it, asked what we wanted to do. I was a bit surprised given the wreck that this burger was and said I don't know, what do you want to do? He said the chef wasn't there but took the plate back to the kitchen. He came back and said the chef (wait, he wasn't there) was surprised and said it was not right. The chef (if he was there) should have headed straight out to us and apologized. So, the manager took the burger off the bill but left the same horrible burger ($22) on our friend's bill. I should not have to tell a manager how to fix such a mess and disaster of a meal and service. I hope they fix their kitchen, whoever is checking food at the pass, and the service or they will be another casualty to the restaurant business in Paso. Sorry I had to write this as I rarely post negative reviews in order to not hurt a business and their employees.

While the building is historic it's been recently renovated and the rooms are modern and well equipped. We chose a Garden King Room. Connected to the hotel is the wonderful Cattlemen's Bar which is beautifully renovated and has a nice local wine list and makes creative cocktails. The instructions posted on the wall do not match the buttons on the remote. We ended up doing a web search for the unit's instruction manual. That's pretty sad. These things should be more intuitive. We liked having a fridge and microwave in the room. The downside to our room was that it was on the 2nd floor and we had to carry our things up the stairs since there was no elevator. Do ask for a ground floor if you want to avoid walking up stairs. I became more mindful of these details in recent years when husband suffered from shortness of breath and had a challenging time doing stairs. The property looks nice with several different buildings surrounding a center common grassy lawn area with curved walkways & mini bridge next to their herb garden and koi pond. There are little fish and some ginormous ones in their koi pond. There is also a pool at the rear of the property. It was easy to find parking near our room. The grounds look lovely from your room or from a distance. But we noticed dog poop on the grass when we wanted to walk over to one of the sofas in the grassy area. BE CAREFUL when walking on the grassy parts. People who bring pets here are not mindful about cleaning up after their pets. This is in stark contrast to our stay at Cambria Shores Inn during the previous days (a pet friendly hotel with lots of little dogs staying and no dog poop messes in the outdoor common areas). I guess the pet owners who stay at Cambria Shores Inn are more respectful than the ones who stay here at Paso Robles Inn. Another thing about the outdoor seating is that they look great from a distance, but their uncleanliness can be seen once you walk closer. They were dirty and there was even one set of sofas that had poop on them. It's as if the hotel staff does not go around and wipe the cushions down each day (which I have seen hotel staff do at other hotels and it truly makes a difference). It looks like a nice place to sit & relax outside, but doesn't really work out that way in practice. Hotel is conveniently located near shops & restaurants. The one challenge is crossing Spring St. which is way busier than I ever imagined it to be before booking a room here. LOL The downtown area is pleasant, and you don't need to drive anywhere unless you're visiting a nearby winery.
