Cattlemen's is upstairs at the Paso Robles Inn (and above the Steakhouse), is a a lovely western-themed bar with long bar, fireplace with sofas, and outdoor balcony seating. * They have beers on tap, wines by the glass, and a lovely amount of cocktails. * The menu is small. A handful of apps ($9-23), a few steaks ($40-60), a burger ($24), and a fried chicken biscuit ($18). I had the Steak Au Poivre (new york strip), and it was just fair. * The staff is dressed cute as cowboy and cowgirls. Commonplace for Texas and Oklahoma, but notsomuch around these parts. Any questions made the server seemingly glitch, as though he couldnt comprehend the questions (can I have some salt and pepper? Do you have a dessert menu?). It took him an long time to come to our table to take our order- despite him simply standing off to the side watching us. We told him we did not like spicy food, and he did not warn us that the chips had a kick. Its odd that they have no BBQ sauce available. The food was eh, not worth the price imo. My ride took me to a place once again where I've wanted to have dinner. They're downstairs at the fancy Steakhouse, I'm in the bar upstairs, seat at the bar counter. I'm driving tonight so it's a bar burger for me. Technically a Stockman Burger, with cheese and bacon. I asked for some fries to go with it. Basketball on the screen, bartender was polite and professional with the occasional chuckle. My beverage a tall bottle of "sparkling" water. The menu is limited in offering, the expanded menu would be downstairs in the main dining room. There were a few items on the bar menu (see photos) that I'd try but not tonight. The burger was out within a reasonable time and looking good Mortimer. I cut the burger in half, perfect medium. Fries looked fresh cut & cooked, nice. I tried to pace myself but I gobbled that f'er up right quick. Delicious, I was happy with my choice and my tummy agreed. We visited the Cattlemen's Bar twice over a period of 6 weeks hoping the service and food would improve. Sadly, they did not. Both times on Burger Monday and both times the person who ordered the burger had to wait up to 10 minutes to receive their food after the rest of us had been served; ironically very rare instead of medium as ordered. The server never came by to ask how our food was although she was standing about near our table. Upon our last visit, Mr. Palmer conducted an impromptu staff meeting at the end of the bar where we heard a variety of complaints lodged at the staff peppered with more than a few f-bombs. We found this quite unprofessional for a seasoned business person and if this is how the staff is treated, I'm assuming neither the service nor food will improve with time. read more

Apparently, they renovated and have a new concept. The service could be a bit more attentive/ observant. While nice, most customers were ignored by the staff. It also was kind of confusing who was serving which section. Our server went on break but we weren't told and no one was told to check up on us. I saw a group sit down and leave because no one approached them for quite a bit. I saw another group walk in and ask for a menu but the music was probably so loud that they were acknowledged but request ignored. - La Panza Pie: I thought I'd be getting a pot pie, it was actually a hand pie. The pickled beet chutney was amazing. I loved the crust too. With the amount of chutney provided and the price, I'd have expected 2 hand pies or 1 pot pie. - Pulled Pork Croquettes: Yum! Perfectly crispy on the outside, a surprisingly good amount of meat in the middle and well seasoned. I highly recommend this appetizer. - The Stockman Burger: This was just ok. Meat and cheese were good quality but the bacon was chewy and hard. It wasn't too exciting. This also came with potato chips but I saw other tables with fries. If I had known that was an option, I definitely would have picked fries. Some of my chips were also rubbery because the middle wasn't fried crisp. - Hot Honey Chicken Biscuit: The biscuit was good but VERY soggy where it touched the chicken, to the point where it was gummy. They probably need to toast the biscuit inside before putting the chicken in. There was no heat in the hot honey and pickles were forgotten but can be left out, they weren't good. The coating on the chicken was interestingly crisp but they may need to check their oil temp before frying, there was just so much oil. All in all, I'd come back for the appetizers and cocktails. Had a good friend drive down from SF to spend 3 days in Paso to celebrate my retirement, as we had been coworkers for 19 years. I had told him about all the great restaurants and lounges in Paso, not to mention the hundreds of wineries. I do believe he left the city as a huge fan of just want the Central Coast holds. On his second night there, we decided to start at Cattlemen's Lounge, upstairs from the restaurant. Mind you, we are comfortable with SF pricing when it comes to drinks and small, limited menu at the bar, but we also had the option to take dinner up there as well. Since we had reservations at 6pm, we decided on a few drinks to get the evening started. Two rounds, consisting of martinis and sidecars. Both drinks were well mixed and tasted great. We did look at the menu and considered something to snack on but decided against it. The bar was about two-thirds full, what appeared to be a hotel crowd, not locals. The bar was upstairs from the restaurant with a motif that supported its name, 'Cattlemen's Lounge.' Lot's off western and cowboy decoration. The bartenders were attentive and welcoming, providing options and asking if you wanted dinner at the bar. Would I go back? Yeah, I sure would. We had a wonderful and relaxing time, talking and throwing back a few drinks ahead of dinner. Not as unique as some of the other establishments around town but enjoyable. read more

Seeing this historic gem revamped twice now has been interesting, to say the least. The wifey and I were pumped to try the "new and improved" lounge. Keep in mind that prior to Martin Resorts selling it to a larger corporation, it had already been redone--and let's just say it was giving Marriott hotel bar vibes. Clean, sure, but about as sterile as my vasectomy has made me for the last 13 years. We approached the stairs and noticed that "the Duke," as I like to refer to the cowboy statue, was gone. This staple, human-like figure startled the masses as you approached the bar for years. It always made you wonder: am I drunk-drunk, or is that a real human? All that to say... he's apparently in storage. What? Why? You wanted to revamp the bar and give it the Paso vibe, so you removed that and instead have servers wearing cowboy hats? Not sure that math adds up, but then again, we teach kids "new math" now which is retarded (yes I said retarded) so who knows . The look of the space is waaay better, and it was busy, so that's a great sign. We ordered the hibiscus margarita since we're planning to drink plenty of tequila this month in preparation for our trip to Mexico City. It felt fitting. When the server took our drink order, we asked for it to be served up. He scoffed and said, "I'll see if we can do that." I was confused. You work at a bar and don't know how simple it is to serve a cocktail up? That's not really his fault--that's management's fault. He came back with the cocktail in a martini glass... with ice in it. Both of us have been bartenders before, and this was not what it was supposed to look like. Kind of like when you reluctantly order clothes online because the model makes them look amazing, then you try them on and realize you're just a fat ass who needs to work out more if you want that fit to actually be drippin'. Then the hostess came over and asked if we could scooooch over because she needed to seat four people at the two-top next to us (we were also at a two-top). I asked, "Where should we put our food then if we're now sharing this small space?" Again--training and management. Let them wait like all the other locals and tourists who go out to enjoy an evening. It's pretty common these days to wait for a table, especially on a Friday. Lord knows the all-mighty hostesses in Paso hold onto the glory of their role like they hold their precious energy stones--while gripping their cell phones and TikToking about sourdough starters, commenting things like, "I love that journey for you." The wait time between drinks and food was a tad longer than normal, but again, they were busy and likely working out the kinks. Once the food arrived, we were pleased. The Grassy Bar oysters (the server didn't know where they came from--again, training and management) were epic as always, and the steak frites were tasty. The wife asked for some salt, and after about 15 long minutes, he reluctantly brought it over, explaining that the chef really doesn't like salt on the tables. Look, I don't normally add salt to dishes when I go out, but the wife does--and if she wants salt, let her have salt, bruh. I wasn't sure if the staff was getting beaten in the back based on his reluctance, but c'mon guys... it's a bar. A lounge. A small hotel hang space. Not LPC. Again, I'm not saying don't go, because I'll definitely be back--unless they 86 my ass for this review. What probably needs to happen is some solid staff training on the menu and the bar program... and maybe someone should spend a little time getting the Duke out of storage. He didn't do anything wrong, and nobody should be putting Baby in the corner. The low stars are mainly towards management and the fact that you're keeping the duke hidden and in the dark. Shame. I have given this place three tries now since they redid it. To say the least, it is absolutely not worth your time. Service is slow, drinks are expensive for something basic, food is inconsistent. We waited about 20 minutes for our drinks to even get to the table. We then order the oysters and they were terrible. All watery and tasted like ocean water. It is such a bummer because it is a beautiful spot with great views and great history but just not worth your time or money. However the staff is very friendly. But I would say that is the only redeeming quality about it. read more

4 of us came here to have a cocktail and appetizers before heading over to Music in the Park. The cocktails were ok. A glass of red wine was $19. We ordered several appetizers and none of them were edible. All way too spicy. Even our calamari was too hot to eat. What happened to the brussel sprouts and steak bites that were always favorites. We were told there was a new Chef and he liked spicy. Interesting! He is suppose to be cooking for his customers not himself. We left everything on the table. They were also way too high priced. This used to be a favorite place to come. It looks like we will go to Street Side from now on. The only good thing was our server/bartender. He did take a couple things off of our bill. We came here around 9:30 since the steakhouse was closed. The server we had was super nice. The food we got was really good. My fiancé got a mojito since they only had Hennessy for cognac and I got one of their signature cocktails. I don't remember the exact name but it was like the J.h something. It had a smoky flavor and was sweet so if you like those combinations it would be perfect for you. The spinach and artichoke dip was amazing and honestly the best one I ever had. This is my 2nd (breakfast) visit to the lounge. The first the family was coming out of camping at the lake. The hot coffee and chicken fried steak was revitalizing. Im a yuge CFS fan so that meal was memorable. Onto visit number two, it was like I was bucked of my pony. I told me wife I rated it a B, as in I wont Be Back. She said her eggs Benedict was a C, perhaps wont C ya later. Service was fine, friendly but not seasoned. " Was everything OK?" Very cool hotel bar at the Paso Robles Inn. The ambience is so nice. A quartz bar that's lit from underneath. Our bartender Kristen (not sure how to spell it) was very attentive and knowledgeable about the area. The bar back, Colby was also knowledgeable and very nice. We had house made tater tots with a spicy aioli. They were really good. My martini was mixed to perfection and they have several beers on tap, most local. What happened to the "bar" menu? They have totally changed their menu. They no longer have their delicious prime rib dip, grilled artichoke or chili and cornbread, in other words their bar food is gone. You can buy a steak for $62 though. You also used to be able to order off of the bar menu or the restaurant menu but now you can only order off of their bar menu. You walk upstairs to order a drink at the steak house and you are stone cold, sober and they cut you off and refused to serve a drink. The restaurant is adjacent to the Paso Robles Inn. After checking into the hotel, we made a dinner reservation, got ourselves settled in our room then headed down. We were greeted and seated immediately at a table for two, away from the larger tables, so ours was a more intimate experience. We were moderately hungry but it was a bit late, so we decided to eat a little lighter. A small loaf of warm bread was brought to our table, served with whipped butter, olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip, and a romesco sauce. We ordered two glasses of the Sangiovese and the roasted parsnip, carrot, kale, and watermelon radish salad with a balsamic vinaigrette from their March Special menu. It was fresh, light and nicely plated. We ate at a leisurely pace. Eventually our server brought our main. We chose to split the ribeye steak with the Chef's choice of vegetables (sauteed chard) and mash. Our food was well seasoned and prepared, the steak medium rare as ordered with a nice char on it. Both of the side portions were generous. Our server, Jacob, was friendly and attentive and made sure everything was cleared/served in a timely manner. What started off as a tired, older couple getting a bite to eat ended up being a romantic dinner for two. The only thing that would have made it perfect would have been a candle at the table. It's such a cleaned up atmosphere since they remodeled. Great seating, nice decor. The best patio seating downtown without a doubt. The bar menu is amazing. Highly recommend the steak bites, artichoke and tots. Not your ordinary tots, almost a mashed potato exploding with flavor. The dipping sauces are delicious. Then you've got the bar. Outstanding cocktails and always made perfect. The bartenders are the wizards of spirits! We have our favorite waitress as well. She's got a tremendous personality and will be the reason you come back to this spot. Elliana is quick with your order and quick with her wit. It's to the point now that if we don't get her as our waitress there's a small bit of disappointment. Whatever they are paying Elliana, it's not enough. We were so excited to try this place after great recommendations from locals. Unfortunately it was a terrible experience. We sat at the bar for a long time with no one taking our order. I flagged down someone and he took our two drink orders. We wait 15 more minutes. Nothing. I flag him down and he says sorry and drinks come in a while. I ask for the bill because we are now running late for dinner and when it comes the receipt actually says "DON'T MAKE!!!" When I asked about it the waiter crumbled the receipt in front of me, tossed it in the trash and gave some ridiculous explanation which made no sense. We will never return. Our first time at this amazing lounge was a great experience. We made our way upstairs and were greeted by a sweetheart of a waitress named Ella. There was a great modern/country ambiance. We stayed at the Paso Robles inn last month and a perk of our hotel stay was two free glasses of wine at the cattlemen's lounge, or drinks at another place in town that was closed that day. We stopped in before we had reservations somewhere else for dinner to redeem our free glasses of wine and were disappointed after we ordered a glass of Prosecco and a Cab and were given our bill to find that our deal was only good for " house wine" that equated to $6 each glass ( $12 credit total)That was honestly insulting being in wine country, full of good wine and being offered $6 dollar glasses of low quality wine. We looked on their menu and not one single glass on it was $6 so honestly it just felt tacky and lame that the hotel and the restaurant even included that as part of their hotel package.
