First, you line up at the entrance, then you ring the doorbell, but only once as the sign warns. You are greeted through a peekaboo window in the door where they ask your party size. You are then taken in groups of three or less to a vestibule where they lock down your phones so you can't take any pictures and then you are seated in the dark and moody atmosphere. They don't split checks, so be ready to order as a group. There's a 90 minute time limit as well, so don't dawdle. Highlights of our order included the Butter Pecan Old Fashioned (so good!) and the Banana Daiquiri. We stayed for the full 90 minutes and when we left there was a long line waiting to get in. Go early if you want to get one of the few seats inside or be prepared to wait. We loved our experience.

We ended up checking in at the restaurant next door and they told us where to find it and to let them know that we had a reservation. (Not sure if everyone has to do this extra step or if you can just go here) We let the gentleman working know that we had a reservation when he popped out from the peep hole. We first went into a very small room full of books and he explained the process and locked our phones in a bag. They take this seriously. You were not going to have access to your phone. I'm sure the material was made to protect it from getting anything sneaky through. They do, however, tell you to keep the phone with you so it is always in your posession. The inside was quite beautiful. It felt like a speakeasy, quiet and through magical doors where you are not meant to be found. We were seated at the bar and were immediately given water. I first started with a raspberry mojito. I forgot what my husband got the first time. For his second drink he tried their version of the Grasshopper which claimed to taste just like mint and chip ice cream. He was absolutely blown away and said "Wow!" every time he took a sip. I tried it and it was spot on! I didn't want another alcoholic beverage so I got their mocktail version of an Orange Julius and it was delicious! We told the bartender (I forgot his name) how amazing the drinks were and especially the Grasshopper and he got into it and told us how it is made and what processes they go through. It actually has milk but you would never know by looking at it. Service was great. When we left we had to hand the bartenders our bagged phones so they could use a machine to unlock it. I told them this felt like Fort Knox. Too funny.

The bar lounge wasn't overly large but they did their best to accommodate their patrons. Before we finished our drinks. some new patrons walked in and they had to be turned away since the lounge area was already filled. We kept our visit short so they could accommodate more patrons. I'm sure the food they offered would have been delicious but we had already eaten dinner. The sticky toffee pudding sounded like it would have been wonderful! Perhaps we'll be able to stop for dinner or a casual bite to eat next time we're in Paso Robles! I hope others enjoy their visit with Sara and the other staff at Pony Club too!

We had spent the afternoon wine tasting and originally planned to head back out after returning to the hotel. Let's just say after several tastings, those plans quickly changed. We decided room service was the much better idea and ordered food from Esperanza instead. We ordered the chips and guacamole, a shrimp taco and flautas, and everything was SO flavorful. Even through room service, the chips arrived perfectly crisp and crunchy, and the guacamole had great flavor. The shrimp taco was probably one of my favorites. It was flavorful with a slightly smoky taste and just enough spice. I believe we ordered the flautas with shredded beef, and those were delicious as well. What also impressed us was how quickly everything arrived. We were expecting to wait a while, but the service was surprisingly fast and the food arrived tasting fresh. For food that we enjoyed from the comfort of our hotel room after an afternoon of wine tasting, Esperanza definitely made an impression. We kept saying that if the food is this good through room service, we need to experience the restaurant itself. So next time we're in Paso Robles, Esperanza is officially on the list. As soon as you walk in, you can smell the wood burning, smells great. The inside is small but not cramped, it's modern and cozy. They have a nice bar, it seems cute for a date night or to grab cocktails with a few friends. Pretty simple menu, they specialize in wood-fired pizzas and cocktails. We got the seasonal salad, which was solid. This rotates based on what's in season - it had nectarines, tomato, burrata - nice and clean, but the portion was pretty small. We also got the chicken cutlet, which came covered in a salad-type mixture. The salad topping was actually great, I would've eaten this as a salad by itself, but the chicken cutlet didn't have much flavor or seasoning. The sun-dried tomatoes in the topping helped add flavor, but on its own, the chicken was very thick and bland. We also got 2 pizzas, Girl Crush and Chicago Fire. These were thin crust pizzas, and while the dough and the toppings were good, there was WAY too much cheese on them. I say this as a cheese lover, but the pizzas were weighed down so heavily by the cheese that it was very difficult to pull slices apart. The ratios just seemed off. Flavor wise, we preferred the Girl Crush. The lemon fragrance is pretty strong on the Chicago Fire, so it overpowered the other flavors. Lastly, we ended with the classic tiramisu, which was good - nice and light, not too sweet. Food was just okay, our server Adam was great!!
