Came here Friday afternoon for lunch. Quick service at the counter. We ordered the steakhouse burger, the pig iron and onion rings. We were given a buzzer and were told to come to the pick up area once our buzzer goes off. We sat in the bar area since it was the quietest since we were with our 4 month old, Restaurant is super cute with western themed items throughout the place. The steakhouse burger was very good! Decent size burger and very buttery (in a good way) and the pig iron was delicious! Pulled pork was nice and tender with just the right amount of bbq sauce on there. The original Pig Iron was out of our price range. Their new service plan fits our budget perfectly. The pulled pork is so incredibly flavorful it doesn't need bbq sauce. That stated, the pulled pork sandwich is my favorite. If pork is your go-to, Pig Iron or Jeffry's in Paso are your best choices. read more

It's Pig Iron like the name says folks!! The pig iron sandwich is absolutely the best pulled pork I've had in San Luis Obispo county! Maybe it is because we are watching "Yellowstone" on TV, but I was craving the flavor of the Old West, which can still be found in many places around SLO. We returned to Pig Iron Restaurant in Templeton, where we had dined about three years ago when they very first opened up! it was kind of bare and spacious our first time there. It was great to see how they have added to the space and now have room for multiple functions! There's a huge outdoor dining patio with a coffee pick up bar. There's a an indoor dining area where you order your food at a counter. There's also the Club Car Bar with its own separate room. I remembered that Pig Iron sando was good. My husband ordered the Pig Iron. I went for two smoked chicken, Cowboy Tacos, and our friend got a burger. We topped it all off with onion rings. It's the kind of place that you order at a counter in the Merchandise room, then take a buzzer to your table. We commandeered a large booth in the fairly small dining room. It has maybe eight or 10 tables. There is are a couple lounge chairs by the fireplace, which is very cozy on a cool day. By the time our food was ready, the dining room was full. That Pig Iron pulled pork sando is worth the trip! The meat is super tender, and the sauce is piquant and not too spicy. Topped with cole slaw, it is a perfect lunchtime meal. Burger was also nicely done kind of a smashed burger. The tacos were aptly named Cowboy Tacos, as I felt that they were gringo tacos. They were bland, since they didn't have sauce on them and the chicken was in tiny chunks and not shredded. The onion rings were crispy and fun to dunk in the Ranch dressing. We hunkered down cowboy style and enjoyed our meal, talking about about outer space and the moon trip while enjoying our food in the cozy ambience of an evocative historic setting! read more

The burger cravings hit, so found ourselves downtown Templeton at Pig Iron. The place reminds you of a old town cowboy saloon. When you walk in there's a counter with the menu on the wall. You place your order there, and they give you a buzzer that will alert when your food is ready. If want a cocktail you have to go to the indoor or outdoor bar. The service was kool, but it's a self serve type of spot. But if you go to the bar area, the bartender was good. The food was awsome. My wife had the Pig Iron with bacon, and I chose the End of the line Burger. We shared the half fries and Onion Rings. I went to the bar and grabbed a paper plane and and Old Fashion. The burgers were really tasty. They had the right amount of meat to bun ratio. Fresh produce and condiments, for the perfect bite. Additionally, the bacon they used was really nice. We really appreciated their style of fries. I've never had fries cut in this style before. They where crispy but yet soft at the same time. The onion rings where also spot on. The perfect crisp and a sweet onion center. For dessert my wife had a chocolate shake, which was underwhelming. She loves chocolate milkshakes, but would not order one from here again. read more

The staff lacked knowledge about the cuisine, but are very friendly and kind. - My breakfast sandwich was absolutely delicious! The brioche bun was phenomenal! My bacon, egg and aïoli sauce all brought the sandwich together. It was delectable and filling. - I don't think you need to add the arugula to the sandwich. It gets wet and kind of limp. Great food and atmosphere.. we stumbled on this place by accident. A happy accident because Aliyah's across the street closed before their posed closing time. Everything was yummy. Wow! What a cool place in the cute city it Templeton! It's rustic and a little like the town of Julian, another rustic city in CA. There are old wooden floors and a fireplace. Taxidermied heads surround the interior. There are two bars, I wish I wasn't here sk early in the day. This seems like a great place for cocktails. I got the regular burger and it is good. I "mmmmm"d when I ate it. That doesn't always happen. The burgers don't come with fries so you order them separately. We got half sweet potato and half potato fries. Visited twice in April 2025 :) Pig Iron was a great spot for burgers and salads- I really enjoyed their Cowboy Chop Salad and the service here was nice! For those who have not been here yet, you'd walk in and order your meal, be given a pager, and you are free to choose your own seating. There are three areas to sit: near the bar, their second indoor area, and their outdoor patio area. It's practically a self serve place, and the prices are more affordable. OKAY THE FOOD: * Cowboy Chop + Tri Tip: I usually get their half size salads as the half size is a pretty loaded salad itself. I highly recommend adding tri tip or grilled chicken to your salad, but I believe you can get pretty full with just the salad alone * Tri Tip Torta: Pretty dang tasty and VERY filling. Stopped by Pig Iron while in Templeton and had an OK overall experience. The place has a laid-back, easygoing vibe that makes it a good spot to hang out and grab a bite. Inside it seems really busy with ALL the trinkets and items that they have for sale or on display. If it was me I would cut those items by half so people can actually walk around and look at them. Right now it is just really busy or set up a room just for that not put them where you are trying to order. The beer and wine selection was OK, a decent mix with enough options to find something you'll like, even if nothing really stood out as memorable. Service was also OK. Staff where we were ordering was extremely soft spoken didn't explain much about the food and when we were asking about the beers and wine don't think they knew much about it... Food was OK, everything tasted OK and came out quickly, but nothing really stood out as something I'd go out of my way for. The outdoor bar was closed that was a bit disappointing since we really wanted to drink some mixed drinks but couldn't get them. Overall, a decent experience. Today my family and my infant child went to visit your establishment and this was our second time there. The first time was pleasant and was during your grand opening (we are not locals, so even though we occasionally visit family in Atascadero we finally had a chance to come back.) We walked in around 4 to get a drink and walked to the bar area to sit at a big round booth since it was not very busy. While we were waiting for the bartender to come back and as I was talking to my family amongst ourselves wondering where the bartender was, someone at the bar said "You cant sit at that booth because it was reserved" and said a specific time range and says of the week it was reserved. A few minutes later the bartender shows up and I ask him where we could sit and he says "Anywhere you'd like!" I told the bartender that the man at the bar said we couldn't sit at the booth we asked about and the bartender said to ignore him because he worked there. Both the bartender and the man at the bar that was supposedly an employee off duty were visibly drunk. The bartender was very friendly at least. I would think that even if you are an employee off duty you would either ignore customers or be courteous at least. There was another employee interacting with the rude off duty employee as well so I can only assume. I felt extremely uncomfortable especially since after that interaction I saw a sign that said family was welcomed throughout the restaurant. I feel that this was unprofessional... if this was just a joke this was unacceptable from the bartender. read more

We just happened to stop by this little spot on our way to Paso. What a great find in a small, quaint town! The food was tasty and reasonably priced. I had the fried chicken sandwich and the chipotle sauce combined with the pickles was delicious. My boyfriend had the tri tip torta and that was yummy too. We are so happy we stopped. read more

This unique bar and restaurant in the small town of Templeton serves up burgers, salads and sandwiches at very reasonable prices under the watchful eyes of a herd of taxidermy horned creatures! If that creeps you out this will not be the place for you. There is a beautiful vintage bar, a small sundries store, and a walk up counter to order your food. We ordered the Verde Burgers (come with large green chiles) and fries to share. We were finishing our burgers when an employee came by to ask us if there's anything he could get us like ketchup! The burgers were tasty and not overcooked. The flat fries were excellent with good seasoning. We were there at 5 o'clock on a Saturday and there were only two or three other customers. Husband and I had lunch at Templeton Mercantile yesterday. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside on the patio and watched the world go by. He had a hamburger and an order of ranch beans and I ordered the breakfast burrito. He said his hamburger was the best he's had in a long time and the beans were perfect. I never have great expectations for a breakfast burrito-my experience is they are usually stuffed with potatoes and underdone bacon. This breakfast burrito was a Home. Run. Stuffed with scrambled eggs, well done bacon, cheddar/jack cheese, grilled potatoes, avocado & crema. The flour tortilla was grilled really well, not put on the grill for a few seconds then stuffed. It was enough for two and would be good to split. It was served with delicious salsa and I wish I had one right now. If you're looking for a sit down and be served place this is not for you. You order at the counter and are given a pager to notify you when your order is ready. The outside patio is a wonderful place to sit, but there are a number of great indoor places to sit also. Having watched prices in our area go up and then up again, this menu is very reasonably priced. Do yourself a favor and give it a try - we will be back. read more

Was checking out Templeton on a Monday and a lot of places were closed. I decided since I had come all that way I should at least have lunch somewhere. I chose the Pig Iron, and boy was that the right choice!! I loved their cheeseburger and the fries are amazing, really thin steak fries with a little bit of seasoning. Just perfect, hit the spot. Free refills on sodas as well, so I got to take a refill to drink on the drive home. People were so friendly. There was a huge party going on in the main inside dining area, but there was a little corner spot for me. It was so nice to see a large happy family. Reminded me of my family get-togethers and wanting to get one of my own together soon!! I will definitely be back here the next tie I am in Templeton. read more

I haven't been here in quite awhile. That being said I was disappointed that this restaurant has now become "cafeteria style". The bartender didn't start until 3, we were there at 1. We brought people from out of the area .. if I knew of these changes I would have gone to Jacks across the street. Every table outside was dirty and needed to be either cleaned or cleared. One person ordered a well done burger and it was far from it... more than pink. Another person ordered the Chicken Sandwich it was literally entirely burned. Nothing came with fries or onion rings so that was disappointing. You had to ask for extra ketchup and ranch... tiny containers... then the person behind the counter made a comment " you guys like ketchup... that was way off base.. we ordered large fries and large onion rings. We sat on the patio because we had 7 people we asked for two tables put together... they put us in the sun with an umbrella that didn't cover everyone so we squeezed into one table under the canopy... it was not busy and we were the only people sitting outside. Stopped in on a whim for my travels selling my beloved e-bikes. Decided to ride my bike over to find something to eat and glad I did. This restaurant is setup to where you order first and come and pick up your food. They don't intend on waiting tables but we did have our drinks brought to us because I think it was less busy. The food was good. The chicken in my chicken and waffle dish was delicious but I only got one piece. The waffle and hot honey were meh. I ate it but would have preferred syrup (I should have asked). My fiancé enjoyed his burger. The onion rings were good, but sold separate. Tri tip hash looked really good, my friend said she liked it. Overall very spacious, old timey vibe. Drinks were good. Don't know if anyone is familiar with Good Stuff Burgers in Santa Monica/West LA area but this is the BEST bomb Garden Burger I've had since I've moved up north & had Good Stuff Burgers. (Sadly Good Stuff now does their veggie burgers w Impossible meat.) Pig Iron GardenBurgers are made w Grains & veggies the way they're supposed to be! I'm mostly a vegetarian and I hate Impossible & Beyond Meat version "veggie burgers" so many restaurants got sold into using. Had lunch here recently. Great attitude and service and the food is delicious and reasonably priced. The patio is very cozy on a cool fall afternoon. Although we live nearby in SLO we hadn't noticed this place until a few months ago. Last time we visited was when we lived in West LA and visited Templeton, which was our base for wine tasting-when wine tasting was free! We had eaten at both the Iron Horse and AJ Spurs and imbibed at the bar all of which inhabited the building at various times through the 1980s and maybe '90s(?). Not to be missed is the Club Car Bar. I just ate the best burger I've had in a very long time! I got the End of The Line burger and it did not disappoint. Super crispy bacon, perfectly spicy jalapeño, crunchy onion rings, sweet bbq ( but just a little- not all over the place) - it was perfect I took a couple of the onion rings off at first to try on their own and they were perfect alone as well. The fries were thin and perfectly cooked and seasoned. I'm pregnant so was kind of feeling like the pregnancy was why things tasted so insanely good but my husband confirmed it was crazy good and also happened to cost less than getting coffee and pastries at our local slo coffee shop I could see us coming back at night- the outside area was super cute and had a fire pit- the bar area looked fun. And the inside even was decorated super cute! We had the dogs so couldn't sit inside but would love to next time. It can be hard to find favorite spots in the area- this one is one of them.
