Loading Chute has been on our list since our last visit to Paso from many recommendations from locals. Definitely worth the 20-30 minute drive. Ride share will be hard to get for pick up so I'd recommended driving yourself. The staff were friendly and very large inside and beautiful outside area. Unfortunately no pictures! We had a clam chowder, order of ribs, and took advantage of the 20 oz bone in ribeye special! It was a lot of food!! Everything was cooked to perfection, large portions, fresh, and delicious! Back again May 24, 2026. Celebrating 3 family birthdays. Reservation for 6 people. Our table was waiting as requested on the patio and had been set up for service. The good. We had a great new waiter who was a young g male with dark hair, tall thin and had the popular "Lama" young men's hair style. He was very accommodating as I laid out my requests. Based on past errors from the female waiters I knew what I needed to specifically ask for. As usual they were understaffed. I feel so bad for the staff here. Management shorts staffing to boost profits. It makes dining here stressful and definitely not a relaxed dining experience. Staff other best but they almost literally have to run to keep up with demand Usually there's no busboy either or maybe 1 for inside and out. Dishes always pile up More bad. Don't ever order the prime rib if it's not Saturday. We think my daughter's was cooked on Saturday, served at full price on Sunday but leftovers and was dry and tough. It's costly too. She discovers it back this time as she didn't want to wait another hour for something else. The salads are usually great but this evening they were half salads. Like they ran short and skimped on each one. Onion rings are always good. I dip mine in their salsa. Others catsup or ranch. The ribs were not good -- 2 full racks. The meat was very tough like eating dry pork chops not tender and good. My friend happened to be having her husband's 75th birthday party there toward the end of our meal they showed up. An extra table for about 12 had been added on the grass area at the end of outside the patio. With folding metal chairs. They did NOT staff for the extra seating and my friend texted me after we left that they waited a full HOUR to even get waters!! This is not acceptable. I don't feel that anything will improve until some time that this restaurant is sold and has new management. I just wish that someone would open another steakhouse in North County and provide good service. Apparently we will never see adequate staffing at Loading Chute. So until there's another option we keep coming back. I miss McClintocks in downtown Paso. Finally one last note. I'm a sparkling wine drinker and I love the Wycliffe Sparkling they serve. It's not dry and so delicious. Just perfect and inexpensive too. Win win. read more

Unique restaurant away from the down town crowds. Beautiful open space with trees and large area for kids to play. Delicious food we love the seafood skewers and extra meaty smoked ribs. OH MY. About 30 min east of Paso in Creston. Worth the drive, oh my goodness worth drive! If steak is your thing, they can't be beat. We had terrific service, steak and chicken that can't be beat. My son noted that his steak wasn't overly seasoned, that the chef let the meat speak for itself. Darned near melt in your mouth quality. read more

In the Paso Robles area, there are some steakhouses that carry a reputation. We have been to a few, but this establishment had always been on my list. We had rented a beach house in Cayucos for a week in June, so I figured that taking a scenic drive on (41) would be worth it. We were seated outside as we selected and it still wasn't dark. The staff was nice and attentive and we enjoyed the ambiance. We took our time reviewing the menu and chowing down the bread & butter baskets. When our food arrived, I was eager to jump right in. The Shrimp went down quickly and the Ribeye was next. To be honest, I was disappointed and the other nine in our group generated ZERO wows! This 45-minute trek each way could have been avoided. We usually order the Filet Mignon. And everything have tried at the Loading Chute has been wonderfull. Until this weekend when we thought we would try the Ribeye steak. It was terrible. The worst I have ever had. I usually really like Ribeye, have had very good ones. There was only maybe 1/3 of the meat that was eatable. And only few bites that I would say were good. It was literly all fat and gristle. I wanted to say something when we were there but she is one of the people that get embarrassed to say anything if the food is bad. I am sure I will go back at some point and order anything but the Ribeye. It is going to take me a while to want to go back. read more

Pro tip: Skip this place's lunch menu entirely, and go for dinner. Always, always, always ask for sauces on the side. Ambiance is cool- lovely patio with cats running around, a big grassy event space, and heaters. Indoors is comfortable with booths and tables. For dinner last week, we had the jalapeno poppers (ugly and phenomenally delicious- would recommend every time), I had a half rack of ribs ($30), and my husband had a pepperoni pizza with added hot honey. My side salad arrived so drowned in dressing that it could have been soup- I'd expected it to be on the side, but alas, that apparently isn't a thing. The bread and butter service, though, my god- fluffy, flavorful, and with perfectly salter whipped butter. A dream. My ribs were absolutely massive and the meatiest baby-backs that I have ever seen- well worth the cost, absolutely delicious, and I brought most of those home. The veg was fine. The steak fries were under-seasoned and dry, so don't bother- I'd recommend any other side. Looking at other tables, people seemed to prefer the baked potato. The service was mostly "on it". Least appreciated was a pretty intense laugh at my husband's diet coke refill from our teenaged-ish server (his second, which doesn't seem unreasonable to me- our app was fast to arrive, we arrived thirsty, and the entree took 30 minutes from the app leaving the table) that was a little bit interesting, while he'd sat with an empty glass since the app plate left the table. It's a good thing that my husband is a HUGE sweet guy, because someone had taken out every ounce of aggression in their body on that bottle of hot honey, and his entire pizza was just soaked and doused in what had to be a half-cup of the stuff. You could have poured it off of the plate. The pizza was soggy with it. I would never have served this to a customer in a million years, having worked in restaurants for years, but he somehow didn't completely hate it despite the initial shock of "oh, wow, that's a gallon of hot honey", so hey. Lunch experience: We sat outside, and service was a lot more staggered. The California Spritz cocktail was awesome. Refreshing, delicious, yum. Service was slower- our fault, we sat outside. The crispy chicken sandwich is made of pre-fab tenders, an actually really darn nice french roll, super mealy/pale tomatoes, good lettuce, and cheddar. It's fine. Needed a sauce- really dry. Shrimp and calamari needs salt, very meh, do not recommend. Good horseradish on the cocktail sauce, though. The special bacon and blue cheese burger was burned on one side, way overcooked all of the way through, and served with no sauce at all- completely bone-dry (and boy, did it taste that way- what a struggle), and had zero seasoning. There is no salt on the tables, so you'll need to ask for everything that you need- ketchup for fries, etc. Once your food arrives, though, they won't stop by again until they're dropping off your check... to a table across the dining room. (Thankfully, those folks exclaimed their confusion) Good news: The lunch fries are different and better than the gnarly, dry steak fries at dinner. Not great, but fine. Bad news: Lunch is "technically, we're open". Don't do it- the lot is empty for a reason at lunch, and full at dinner for a reason. Follow the crowd of motorcycles and classic cars to the biker bar up the road. read more

It was a very long wait but worth every minute. When I am on vacation I guess I have all the time In thr world. I keep hearing people saying how good the food is, i drove over an hour for this place. When you get there it is a small town with few street, I think this place is the town's main economy. Food is great, wait time is long and I should knock a star down but given the resraurant is the trip and one of the best steak I had. This is a 5 out of 5. read more

Dropped by for a late lunch on the way back to Clovis. Locals know the Loading Chute, serving great food for many years and it hasn't changed. My husband and I both ordered the daily special: a prime rib sandwich with onions, mushrooms and cheese. Our sides were a salad and sweet potato fries. (Note: there is a small charge for these sides. Other sides have no extra charge. ) For dessert, a berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Everything was 10 out of 10! Excellent and friendly service. Bathrooms are clean. Located this gem during a rambling road trip. In the tiny town of Creston. Great Steakhouse/Country decor. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. Special Thanks to Becca our server. Ribs and chicken combo dinner was outstanding with a Delicious baked potato. I struggle finding a chicken breast that isn't too dense or dry (being a thigh and leg kinda gal). This chicken breast was moist and prepared just right. With the tender and tasty ribs, we were both very happy with our meals. We will be returning to try out some of their other options. read more

I've heard much about the Loading Chute, so my party of 4 were on for the adventure. We headed to the little town of Creston, filled with wineries, ranches, and open spaces. A rustic diner is the feel. Packed, wall to wall with peeps. Definitely a great vibe. It has a great menu, too, filled with all kinds of BBQ, burgers (tons more available for lunch), sandwiches, pizza, prime rib, and seafood. The wine menu by the glass is unimpressive, so I settled for a draft of Cali Squeeze -- no problem for the settling! I ordered the grilled pork chop, 12 oz, bone-in. Well, it was just okay. Cooked nicely, but under-seasoned and uneventful. $30, 3.5 stars. Our table generally liked, but not loved, the food. We finished with sharing a Mud Pie, and wow, it was awesome. Everything tasted amazing! Service was great. Originally came here for the steaks but I guess they do not really serve the steaks til after 4pm. I was able to get the rib eye sandwich without the bread. It tasted awesome and cooked at the right temp. Medium rare just how I like it. The clam chowder was amazing! Super chunky, lots of large clams, and not watery at all. Chicken strips were also good. Not too bready. I do not like Cole slaw so much but this one was excellent. Not really impressed. Was in Paso for 5 days. Decided to give this place a try since we have been hearing about it for years. Got served pretty quickly. Enjoyed looking at the decor. I searched for steak houses around Paso Robles, and this place came up - around 15 minutes out of town. Hmmmm. We wanted to make sure we'd get a seat, so we called ahead since we were planning to dine on a Saturday night. Good call, and they seated us as we got in the door. Once we were seated, we were provided with a nice loaf of sliced bread with a very nice salted butter, and our drink orders were taken. The best way to describe this place is cowboy classic. It's got that western motif going for it, as well as a couple of TVs so you can watch sports - today it was soccer. If you are lucky enough to sit on the right side of the restaurant, you can see their large charcoal grill in the corner, and a large grate grill next to that. The place smelled good as we walked up. The menu offers steak, chicken, ribs and other good stuff. I had their 12 ounce sirloin, which was incredibly thick and juicy. I didn't need to season it one bit. My wife had their shrimp and sirloin special. Again, the sirloin was a large nugget. We ask for a baked potato (which you can get with butter, sour cream and chives if you want) with our steaks which were cooked to order. They also came with some fresh veggies. I wish we hadn't had such a filling day - we weren't able to order dessert, but watched as some LARGE desserts went to other tables. read more

Ok, I usually do not give a 5 star for most restaurants around here, as in So Cal there are so many good ones. I cannot believe I've never been here, it opened the same year my husband and I moved up here. My hair dresser told me about it. So I made reservations via phone. To get there from the. 101 its a winding road, harder to go get there but easier to get back. Our server was Jennifer, she was so nice informative and friendly. We were given some nice warm bread. Many places now you have to pay for bread, Jennifer told us we could split a dinner, but my husband and I like leftovers. It was a very reasonable fee. We both had the larger prime rib dinner, mine was medium, with garlic mash potatoes, I changed from a bake potato. My husband's was rare and he had rice pilaf. We both had vegetables and salads. Normally I skip desert but the Lemon cake with berries called to me. Since I had leftovers I now also have desert. I was hoping for an open bar, but since they didn't have mixed drinks, I got a wine spritzer. It was probably better for me light and refreshing, my husband got a Modelo on draft. We've been coming here for years, but somehow only ever visited in the colder months when it was already pitch dark outside. We always thought of it as a fairly small place that was kind of rustic, but had NO idea that there was an entire outdoor dining area until we started looking for dog-friendly restaurants that served steak. And when we showed up in the early evening, we were shocked to find how large and pretty the outdoor space was. Food has always been consistently good, service is friendly, and prices are reasonable. I got the ribeye this time (have gotten the prime rib in the past) and it was very good, just a bit under-seasoned, which was fine, since there was salt on the table. I got a baked potato with it, and was bummed to find that there was a huge rotten chunk. I caught a bite with part of the rotten part in it not noticing right away, but the moldy flavor stood out immediately and I spit it out. I'd eaten half the potato already at that point, so I just cut the rest of the bad part away and continued eating. So glad to have a nice place to eat with our sweet pup when we visit Paso/Creston. We'll continue coming back as long as they continue being good! read more

Had an opportunity to stop in at the Loading Chute in Creston the other day for lunch. Nice little local steak house off the beaten path. We had burgers, salad and a couple beers. Very relaxing atmosphere and the food was great. Top of the line burgers and the onion rings were fantastic. I saw a couple next to us get their steaks and they looked and smelled incredible. We love the Loading Chute! Occasionally we take the back way to Pismo Beach and stop by. You'll experience the feel of walking back in time.....cowboy hats included. Never disappoints. Go for the steak. If they give you the rare option of a side of garlic mashed potatoes...say yes to that. Every cup of soup I've tried is epic. Corkage fee is only $10 - so bring a bottle or two to drink with your scrumptious American meal. Ask to see the dessert menu - just trust me on this. On Sundays they do brunch starting at 9 am that is classic and always delicious. Pricing is more than fair. read more

The steaks are SO GOOD !!!! We got the prime rib and ribeye and they both practically melted in your mouth. They also have an open grill where they cook the steaks so that was cool. We're from LA area and I think this was one of the BEST steaks we've ever had. Plus great prices. Was here last month and the service was great! This time it took 20 minutes for drinks, and an hour for food. We really wanted more bread cause we were starving but our waitress never asked or came around, only to drop off food. They have great bread. The food was good although it arrived warm, not hot. For the high prices you'd expect great service and hot food, also Loading Chute is out there! read more
