Entering the Loading Chute, one is welcomed by the very friendly waitstaff into a warm, inviting interior. The service was prompt, and our food delivered in short order. Both of our selections, a Mushroom Cheeseburger and today's special of Prime Rib sandwich, were of good portions and excellent quality. The side salad was a generous portion of crisp & fresh ingredients. Their excellent Ranch dressing is worth the extra calories (I'll run it off later). The onion rings are well worth the upcharge. The interior sports counter seating, booths and tables. In addition, there are outdoor patio dining areas for enjoying a delicious meal or their marvelous desserts. This place is a must, but be patient at dinner time as it gets very busy being popular with us locals. The owners are great, their staff is attentive and the food is amazing! Our go to is the calamari steak, but the ribeyes are great at a very reasonable price. For an appetizer, I highly recommend the brussel sprouts. Even a friend of ours decided to try them knowing he doesn't care for them, but he is now a fan. The ribs, burgers, chicken, fish and seafood pasta dishes are great! Also ask what the dessert special is for the night so you can get one reserved before they run out. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and is reminiscent of the surrounding cattle ranches and farmlands. And, the kitchen grill is right out there on display so you can watch your steaks, etc being grilled. read more

We have been wanting to try this place for a few years now. We went here on a Friday evening. The outside and the inside of the restaurant are super cute and rustic looking. The service was top notch from the time we entered the restaurant till we left. The staff is constantly circulating and making sure you have everything g you need. The quality of the meat was okay. The price for a party of six can't be beat. Overall, the service, ambiance, and price are fantastic. If you want a steak for a great price and great service, this is the place for you. read more

A little off the beaten path, but worth the trip every time. I took the short jaunt from Atascadero on a lazy Saturday afternoon, and was not disappointed. Always pleasant staff, fresh food, ice cold beer, and a great dining experience. I had a Firestone Double Barrel Ale with their Calamari and Shrimp appetizer. The plate arrived with a stack of calamari strips (*no tentacles) and 3 good size shrimp. Accompanying the main course were two dipping options (tarter, cocktail) that tasted like they were made in-house. There is plenty of space for large groups, and their menu has options for all types of appetites. I look forward to experiencing another of their menu options my next visit. read more

We were here for a wedding over the weekend and while waiting for the bride to arrive (who was 45min late) we decided to hang out inside the restaurant bar and have a drink in the air conditioned space. Their drink menu is limited to beer and wine which is fine. I expected their menu to be a bit more elevated since they're right in the middle of wine country. I ordered their dry brut sparkling wine to start but later switched to their rosé which was was much better. The wait staff was decent.. the man who helped us first was amazing but when there was a shift change, the lady's who were helping weren't very friendly or helpful. I felt we might've been an inconvenience to them since we technically weren't there for dinner, but only drinks throughout the wedding. Service was slower than I would expect and service was subpar. 4 stars bc of the open fire pit, air conditioning, and location. I'd probably come back to try their dinner menu at some point.. Can't say enough good things about the best restaurant around. This place is a home away from home and I can always count on them to have amazing food 100% of the time. Seriously, it's a blessing to live close by and always know they are just a quick drive away from a delicious heartwarming meal. Ate there twice this trip. Really good food for reasonable prices. Lunch and dinner menus are different. For lunch try the tri tip sandwich. Cobb salad is also excellent. This is probably the only place in the world that you will see Cowboys walking in to dine carrying their own bottle of wine! A local place in the middle of wine country where all the wine makers, their family and workers dine. It is literally in the middle of no where! But what a treat when you get there. Start off with the wood oven pizza as an appetizer. Then the main menu. Close your eyes and point to anything in the menu, you will love it. All the BBQ is cooked in a charcoal wood burning pit. Last time we were told the cook had been there for 30 plus years! He cooks to your exact order the way you want it done. Rare, Medium or well done. Must try the BBQ Shrimp. It is basically a barn and what makes it even more special it is funded by the locals and residents. (That's what we were told) . The peppercorn sauce was a disappointment, though I may be biased by the way I make it. Fries and veggies were very average & plain, but still good. Quality overall was high in all areas. We were here last month for a dinner date while staying in Paso on a road trip. What a delightful surprise! Right off the bat, our waitress was extremely personable, easy-going and accommodating, and we had a very welcoming and smooth experience with her, (as well as with each person who came by our table to deliver or clear something). Between the two of us we tried the Shrimp cocktail (super fresh), Chicken noodle soup (homemade thick noodles), Side salad (perfect portions), Prime rib (still dreaming about the texture), baked potato, rice pilaf and mixed veggies (each just right). FYI - The optional side of sautéed mushrooms packs a punch of garlic and the homemade bread is to die for. We loved the flavored ice teas and generous beverage size. It's unusual for a meal out for us where every single thing is good, but in this case everything we had was so fresh, delicious, and perfectly cooked, we seriously regretted not saving room for pie. (We envied our table neighbors who were there celebrating their anniversary as their pie was delivered; they smartly had gotten to-go boxes instead of finishing their plates). A highlight of our experience was one of the young bussers named Aiden (sp?). Wow, we were blown away by his maturity and humility, and appreciated how he effortlessly and eagerly catered to our needs. He consistently checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed and was very quick to remedy anything with a smile. He made us feel like guests of the restaurant, not just random people, looking us in the eye and establishing rapport. He gave us some hope and restored faith in the up and coming generation. With amazing manners and a can-do attitude that we rarely rarely see even in older adult employees these days, he has the makings of a future manager/owner! This young man honestly made our night extra special (leveled up from the already fantastic experience with our server and food). Kudos to whomever hired this guy, he's a keeper. We will definitely be back and highly recommend the Loading Chute to anyone passing through Paso, the drive to Creston is worth it! Wifey and I came here for dinner a few weeks ago on a Friday night. The place was pretty packed but there was a spot at the bar, so we were good with waiting. This is a place where most of the folks are locals who know each other. We noticed a few tables actually knew their servers and that was really cool to see. It seemed like several family gatherings. Loading Chute is a casual place, one where you can feel comfortable just relaxing and having a good meal. Ok, the real meat of the review is that - the meat. Wifey had a pork chop and I had a steak. Oh yum - they were seasoned very well and cooked exactly right. My only regret was that by the time I finished dinner I didn't have any room for dessert. But from the ones I saw going to other tables, they looked great. Included was a soup or a salad, since it was cold, we both got the soup which was really good. And, even with some beer and wine, the prices were very reasonable. Will I be back? I'm sure I will when I'm in the area again. read more

Now I have been to Gullivers Tavern in Irvine, I have been to Lawry's in Los Angeles, I have been to the Growers Pub in Salinas, Paso Inn in Paso Robles, Cool Hand Lukes, the Hitching Post in Orcutt, Jockos , etc.... And just to make sure I wasnt crazy I dragged my friend Dave with me all the way out to Creston, who has dined at Lawrys and a few others I mentioned. Hands down the best priced and tasting Prime Rib I and he have had. At this point, I really want to know their secret and where they stash the tasty cows these steaks are coming from! I had promised my wife a special dinner at the restaurant of her choice for nursing me to health after recent surgery and she chose an old favorite of ours, The Loading Chute in Creston. I made reservations for a Thursday because I didn't want to battle the weekend crowds and when we arrived we were immediately greeted with a smile and a 'Hello' by a former student of mine, Gracie. She seated us immediately after asking us whether we preferred indoor or outdoor seating and even allowed us to choose our table. It was a cool, balmy evening so we chose to eat in the outside dining area, which was immaculate. Grace took our drink orders and our server, Kristin, appeared immediately to welcome us and tell us about the 'specials' of the night. We both chose the Prime Rib ( which we had ordered on a previous visit) - an end cut for me and a medium rare for my wife. With the Prime Rib came a baked potato and steamed vegetables and creamy horse radish sauce as well as a fresh salad. The food came in a timely manner just as we finished our salad and was cooked to perfection. Kristin would check on us occasionally to make sure we didn't need anything. We both remarked as to why we didn't visit the great restaurant more often since we only live 20 minutes away and vowed to return on a regular basis and bring our family members when they visit us in Paso Robles. All in all, a great experience and a 'hidden gem' for anyone visiting North San Luis area. You won't regret it. read more

I would not go back to dine there again! We got there before the dinner rush around 4:00pm and no one was there. We asked to be seated on the patio which was empty and we were denied!! After an hour, I walked over to the patio to see if it was full and again NOONE was seated there!! I reported this to the manager, and she really didn't have a good explanation and the Hostess was rude and unsympathetic as well!! I couldn't help to think it was because we were Hispanic that we were treated so poorly!! For this response, I do not recommend anyone to drive out of your way to Creston for dinner!! First visit I had the prime rib and it was phenomenal. Second visit I had the filet mignon and my husband had the sirloin, best we've had yet. Salad always crunchy and fresh. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here tonight celebrating both my daughter's birthday and Father's day together. To our surprise, they were accepting reservations but thankfully we only needed to wait half an hour w/o one this busy night. All four of us loved the food which was excellent, cooked perfectly, and delicious. We had prime rib, steak, chicken, and pork chop. Our waitress was very bushy yet served us well. Dinner was a bit pricey but well worth the cost and much preferable to what we've had at lunchtime. This is our favorite place for special occasion meals. read more

If you haven't been to an authentic country kitchen, then go here first. It will ruin you and you'll never want to go to another. Theo food is supreme but big servings. The steaks are well... kicking butt on the over priced bougee places like Flemings, RC, ETC! Bring a date, your wife, or 10 friends. Decent wine list too? Really not bad at all.
