    Filet mignon

*visited on a Friday night with a group of 4, with a dinner reservation Came here for a double date with some great friends as they had highly recommended the Range. The restaurant is nestled in the small town strip of Santa Margarita, parking is limited in front of the restaurant BUT there's plenty of street parking and a small public parking lot less than a block away. The staff is very kind, patient and fun to talk to. We never had empty water glasses, and had fun talking & vibing with our waitresses. OKAY THE FOOD: * the filet mignon- okay don't judge me, but our entire table had gotten the same entree because of how yummy/ highly recommended it was. I loved it, the dish was yummy and had different textured & flavors. The filet was perfectly made- I had ordered medium and it was SO tender. I highly recommend it if you're wondering. * pulled pork pizzette - loaded and yummy. It was the perfect appetizer for the table, and though different, pretty delicious.

Pleasantly surprised to find this while glamping in the area! This amazing steak house is nestled in santa margarita and is really top notch and better than larger more expensive steak places I've been to. The service was great. All the food was great...from the bread to the soup, salad and of course the filet and the desert too! It's cash only. We went on a week night so not sure if you need reservations on weekends. Highly recommend!

Everything was wonderful, service, food and ambiance. This was our third time at The Range and it's definitely one of our favorite places

So good. I have heard of this restaurant for a very long time and finally got to visit last night. My friend had the filet mignon and I had the ribeye. Both cooked to perfection. We split the man salad and it was perfect. We also split the chocolate pie. OMG it was like my grandmother's recipe with cocoa. Award winning. I asked our waitress to pick her favorite wine and she did an amazing job. All was to perfection and can't wait to return.

What a lovely little place. Very nice portions with a wonderful choice of different selections. The starters are fun ! Service is awesome

    Oh what to enjoy tonight?

The Luck of it never ceases to amaze me...I'm driving a B Day party today and the last stop is dinner at "the Range". Sounds like an ideal opportunity to have some dinner for myself. I was seated on the patio with all the early dinner folks. I couldn't dine at the bar tonight because there is no bar, looks like it was at some point but not these days. Apparently the only spirits in town are at the Liquor store, just beer and wine here folks. I got duce to myself, and prompt attention from Jessica. water, iced tea and a nice little plate of sourdough bread slices accompanied with a unique corn bread. Jessica rattled off the specials, shes had some practice having worked here the last nineteen years. The specials...a beef meatball on linguini, a pork ragu something and sand dabs da de da...I started with a Caesar salad romaine hearts no croutons thanks. I had to try the Elk medallions Oh my....delicious, accompanied with smashers and the best combination of fresh vegetables I think I ever had and cooked to perfection and all of it served on a warmed plate. Oh yea... You know when the dinner steak knife comes out and is from Rambo's house it gonna be something to look forward to enjoying. Nuff said, make the trip out here. Dessert backed up dinner a rubarb crumb topped warm compote and vanilla ice cream to help it slid down. Even the iced tea was good, probably because it was brewed fresh & strong today. Ah the bill has arrived with a fortune cookie. do I flip the bill or open the fortune cookie first? fortune cookie first, maybe it says I got a free meal? "Sail into the land of opportunity-treasures await" hum...not free but certainly a good fortune told. CASH or check No Credit Cards. Tip well my friends the range is Highly recommended by the foodguy. Martin

I had no idea this steakhouse existed in Santa Margarita. Started with the French onion soup. It was really good! I had an amazing filet steak that was cooked perfectly. Served with mashed potatoes and veggies. The only negatives are they only take cash and they only had one champagne choice on the menu. Next time I'll bring my own bottle and pay the corkage fee.

The food was excellent; very straightforward. We had the French onion soup and it was consistently good as the last time we had it in May. I tried the meatball with bucatini and marinara, fresh tomatoes and shaved Parmesan. It was tasty no frills filling. We also had the special of the night gulf shrimp with au gratin potatoes and a string potatoes (fried) on top. Also, had the mussels with a beurre blanc sauce and parsley. Very straight forward and maybe a touch salty for my taste. The service was excellent; very attentive. Always checking if we were okay. The restaurant has a very small parking lot 5 cars. So you have to find parking on the street. Ambiance is cozy (we always sit inside because of the heat); with old album covers of country singers from the past decorating the walls. If you have boisterous patrons it will get pretty loud even with a normal decibel you can hear the next tables conversation. It was not an issue for my party; it's just the way it is. Outdoor seating has a more picnic ambiance to it. This was second visit and it very good and filling.

    Filet Mignon...OMG

You can tell the ingredients were fresh and high quality. The surprising standout for me was the arugula salad. The fresh, quality ingredients really got to shine through. The ambiance is adorable. It's cozy and feels like you're dining inside someone's home. The weather was beautiful out so we opted to dine on the patio. My bf and I were visiting for our anniversary and our server Rick went above and beyond to make it extra special. He was very attentive and personable. We will be back next time we're in SLO!

While the menu did feature many…read moreof Nate's star dishes, it was also a lot for brunch and I honestly could have forgone dessert which was the least memorable part of the meal in my opinion. For starters, we tried both the crab bisque and the arugula salad. The salad was dressed well and fluffed nicely. The shaved fennel added a nice crunch to the salad and the beets added that nice earthy sweetness. It was a little odd the beets were just two thick slices on the bottom though...not exactly conducive to eating as a salad. As for the crab bisque, it featured a generous amount of crab meat making the soup sweet yet seafood forward. For mains, we tried the breakfast pasta and the lemon mafaldine. The mafaldine honestly blew me away. The lemon was bright with pops of freshness from the mint and the sauce was creamy but not too thick! The breakfast pasta tasted like an upgraded carbonara. The meatiness of the bacon lardon was probably my favorite part of the dish. For dessert, we went with one of each. The strawberry sorbet fit the weather better but the chocolate torte did have that fudgy richness that you just want for the weekend. But, as previously stated, if the pre-fixe menu wasn't required, we probably also could have gone without it. Servicewise, Nate's was impressive. Fountain drinks refills were swapped seamlessly, dishes were described impeccably, and I also loved the little postcard they wrote for our anniversary. Details matter, and Nate's nailed it here.

Not only did she respond quickly, but she was also kind, flexible, and truly accommodating throughout the process. From the moment we arrived, everything was handled seamlessly. Every time we have to gather up our own dirty plates and stack them. Just get them out of the way because otherwise they likely would not ever be picked up. The dinner servers are always very busy and they heather to be short 1 or 2 for normal service. We didn't recognize any of the servers or the hostess from our other recent visits here. Sadly, the prime rib my daughter always was so tough she couldn't cut into it. This has never happened before answer were shocked and she asked for it up he just taken away. Strangely the full rack of baby back ribs were also like eating dry jerky tonight and it was awful. They were really difficult to chew like eating dried out thick pork chops. Again we've never before experienced this. Very disappointing. We had already ordered a second rack of ribs meal to go for tomorrow so we are hoping that one is better. The meat in both was like from a different cheap supplier. If we experience this again next time we will stop coming out and it's my favorite place so I hope food improves. Additionally I ordered a cup of clam chowder. It was really thick this time like thick wallpaper paste. Nothing like the normal chowder. I should have sent it back too. The salads were great as usual but mine was misting the red onion rings but the others in our group had them. We had our usual grasshopper pie to share as the little grandsons wanted it. The crust is always too thick (1/2") and very hard so I don't even eat it. It takes one of the steak knives to get thru that crust. But the ice cream on it is always good and refreshing Service needs improvement. Food needs improvement. Hire more staff they are working like crazy and it's still mediocre service. We want this to be our go--to BBQ restaurant. Our bill was $208. We come about once a month and really enjoy coming but we've had a lot of frustrations
