What a blessed first time dining experience we had here! This place was highly recommended by several wine educators at different wineries, so it was a no brainer that we had to check it out while we were back in town! Located in downtown Santa Margarita, this quaint country resto is just off State Route 58. There are only 5 parking stalls in front, so if you make a reservation right when they open (and arrive a few minutes before), you should be able to snag a stall no problem. We were welcomed and seated outside on their cozy patio on a beautiful Thursday evening (seating inside as well). Love their rustic country decor and seeing the surrounding lush grapevines, very photo worthy! Kudos to the staff for being so awesome and attentive. We were told about the specials, which all sounded tempting, but we came to try what was highly recommended from their "Main Event". I'll get back to that in a bit, but first... Before we placed our order, their bread service came out hot, fresh, and fast (love it!). Aside from their wonderful selection of delicious breads (that cornbread...yum!), we also tried their Stinking Rose Pizzette (must try if you're a garlic lover, so good!!!). Since we just came from a wine tasting, we opted for Sweet Tea, which was perfectly sweet and refreshing! Okay back to the "Main Event", which for me was their Elk Medallions (medium rare). Absolutely phenomenal! It was my very first time trying elk before, and it far exceeded my expectations. It was perfectly prepared, lean yet melt-in-your-mouth-tender, and not gamey whatsoever! Wow, just wow! My husband ordered their Ribeye (medium rare), which he also enjoyed wholeheartedly. Our bellies were so happy and full, but like I always say, "there's always room for dessert!". Two words, Hillbilly Heaven...'nuff said! LOL. Note: Cash or check only (us old school kids appreciate this! LOL!). CHEERS and happy eating till next time...

*visited on a Friday night with a group of 4, with a dinner reservation Came here for a double date with some great friends as they had highly recommended the Range. The restaurant is nestled in the small town strip of Santa Margarita, parking is limited in front of the restaurant BUT there's plenty of street parking and a small public parking lot less than a block away. The staff is very kind, patient and fun to talk to. We never had empty water glasses, and had fun talking & vibing with our waitresses. OKAY THE FOOD: * the filet mignon- okay don't judge me, but our entire table had gotten the same entree because of how yummy/ highly recommended it was. I loved it, the dish was yummy and had different textured & flavors. The filet was perfectly made- I had ordered medium and it was SO tender. I highly recommend it if you're wondering. * pulled pork pizzette - loaded and yummy. It was the perfect appetizer for the table, and though different, pretty delicious.

Pleasantly surprised to find this while glamping in the area! This amazing steak house is nestled in santa margarita and is really top notch and better than larger more expensive steak places I've been to. The service was great. All the food was great...from the bread to the soup, salad and of course the filet and the desert too! It's cash only. We went on a week night so not sure if you need reservations on weekends. Highly recommend!

Everything was wonderful, service, food and ambiance. This was our third time at The Range and it's definitely one of our favorite places

So good. I have heard of this restaurant for a very long time and finally got to visit last night. My friend had the filet mignon and I had the ribeye. Both cooked to perfection. We split the man salad and it was perfect. We also split the chocolate pie. OMG it was like my grandmother's recipe with cocoa. Award winning. I asked our waitress to pick her favorite wine and she did an amazing job. All was to perfection and can't wait to return.

The service and the food are phenomenal. The Elk Medallions, Fried Chicken and Man Salad are a MUST!!!

Although I intended to try one of their steak dishes, I couldn't stay away from the lobster Mac & Cheese. It had an amazing presentation, with a petite lobster tail with shell over a plate of delish Mac n Cheese, The steak dishes will have to wait until next time! My wife had a grilled shrimp dish with mashed potatoes and corn, which was wonderful as well. We tried the house margaritas, which were not listed on the menu, but were refreshing and a great price. They also had some great Mexican beer on tap. The owner was our server and she was so gracious and friendly. She made us feel so welcome, The interior was quiet and calming, with the bar area a real standout, We may just eat there next time! Highly recommend for a unique dining experience in the North County.

Some friends recommended this winery to us, so we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, our…read moreexperience fell short of expectations. We were seated at the bar, and maybe that was part of the issue. It was quite busy, with both indoor and outdoor seating filled. The wine itself was just mid. Our server didn't seem knowledgeable about what she was pouring, and when it comes to wine tasting, that makes a huge difference. A big part of the experience is learning about the wines. You're there for the story, the vineyard, the tasting notes and none of that really came through. My boyfriend is a bit of a wine snob (in the best way), and usually, if he enjoys the experience, he buys enough bottles to waive both of our tasting fees. This time, though, nothing really stood out or felt worth it. I'm sorry, but there's so much more that goes into serving wine than just pouring it. You have to sell the wine and make people fall in love with it. Unfortunately, that spark was missing here. This is a one and done experience for us.

My party of 4 made a reservation for lunch, and we had a table on their lovely outside patio. It's a very comfortable and relaxed setting, the tasting room is inside. * Loved our servers * Love the menu filled with burgers, flatbread pizzas, sandwiches, and salads. I went with the wine tasting, it was only $20 (can't find that anymore!). I enjoyed, and the server was very generous bringing several bonus pours. ...and... The Margarita Burger [$22. 4.0 stars] -- 1/3-pound beef patty, toasted brioche bun, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, burger sauce. The star was the amazing truffle fries, and the burger had a good composition and overall was good, but the patty was perfectly formed and flat. Local fresh? Didn't taste like it. Hand-form that thing, creates crispy edges and texture...c'mon! I'll be back.

Wish I could have tried them all, but my aperol spritz was perfect. We had made a reservation ahead of time for our large party (gratuity was included with the check) and were sat outside at the patio on the ground floor. The wait staff was fantastic, friendly, and respectful. Matched up well to the vibe of the place. There is a lot of options for food as well, with different pastas/sauce styles, pizza, and appetizers. We ordered a focaccia appetizer before we were aware that focaccia came free at the table, but no complaints from us!! The bread was delightful and all the dips were good as well. I got the nduja & gamberi pasta which cane with prawns and a red sauce over a pretty good portion of noodles. Demolished that and soaked up the extra sauce with the bread. Yum!! None of us saved room for dessert but the tiramisu looks good in photos. I think this was a fun, one-off thing for me since I live so far away now, but! Tell me how the pizza tastes if you go!!

UPDATE: Since…read moreposting my review, I have had multiple conversations with Hallie (communications personnel) and Ben, the General Manager at Cielo. Both were thoughtful, professional, and genuinely receptive to my concerns. At no point did I feel dismissed, argued with, or pressured to change my review. Instead, they listened carefully, communicated openly, and took the situation seriously. While the original interaction should never have happened, I was impressed by the level of accountability, kindness, and follow-through shown afterward. They treated both me and my friend with respect throughout the process and worked to repair what had become a very disappointing experience. I still stand by my original review of the incident itself, but I also believe good businesses should receive credit when they handle criticism with professionalism and integrity. Ben and Hallie did exactly that.
