We can't believe it has taken us so long to visit Jose's Country Kitchen. Wow! We will be back very soon! This unassuming restaurant is a hidden gem behind the truck stop. But don't let that deter you from visiting! We were both very impressed with our breakfasts. My partner had the Southern Breakfast. The homemade sausage patty was spectacular - so flavorful & moist! A real star! Perfect biscuits the size of a cat's head (!), succulent gravy, eggs cooked to perfection. I wasn't sure he'd be able to eat all of it given the generous portion size, but it was so delicious that he couldn't resist. I enjoyed my Sunrise Sandwich. The ham was perfect, eggs over hard - the best for inside a sandwich, cheese, on buttery toasted sourdough. I ordered my hash browns extra crispy and they were perfectly executed. Fast & friendly service. Reasonably priced especially given the quality & volume. We won't eat again until dinner for sure! Thank you for a wonderful breakfast!! See you soon!!

    Massive hot chocolate! Yum!

This restaurant, which is essentially hidden behind a truck stop was amazing! It was a super pleasant surprise. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. Really had that homemade feel. the hot chocolate came in a massive supersized mug and was topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. My wife was in heaven. We truly enjoyed this wonderful cafe, where I had the best carnitas I've ever eaten. Big thumbs up!! Definitely worth searching for if ur in the area.

I've been here twice and the food and service are very good. The specials are more affordable and as awesome as the menu items. There's good quality and value here.

    Great small town feels !

Fantastic homemade fries, fresh beef burgers, delicious homemade pies, & awesome 80s-90s tunes! I loved our waitress too!

I went in planning to order the $11.95 cheeseburger combo, but I swerved and got the gourmet western burger combo for $14.49 instead. Excellent decision. The skinny fries with the skins on came out steaming hot, and the burger was fantastic--a big, flavorful patty hanging over the edge of a fresh bun like it had something to prove. No gimmicks, no overthinking, just a solid local burger spot doing burgers right.

It's a small place, not fancy, but it felt friendly and relaxed, the kind of place that doesn't try too hard and knows what it is. Here are the details... *Service: everyone was very friendly. The guy at the front was genuinely nice, but he was pretty confused and confusing when I asked about the daily specials and pricing. He tried to explain it, but it made understanding what was what harder than it should have been. Nothing negative intention-wise at all, just a little chaotic and unclear. *Food: I ordered the burger medium rare, no cheese. It came out medium well with cheese and a very small piece of pineapple. Not exactly what I ordered, but it still tasted good. It had plenty of condiments, lettuce, tomato, a thin slice of ham, and mayonnaise. Flavor-wise it was solid, just not what I asked for. The fries were excellent. Crispy, fresh, and clearly made from real potatoes. They slice whole potatoes in-house with a slicing machine and turn them straight into fries, which I thought was really cool. They also had some kind of seasoning on them that made them even better. They have a lot of good burger options, plus chicken sandwiches, salads, and chicken strips. I liked that there was variety beyond just burgers. They also do a daily special burger for $10.99, combo meals are $13.99, and you can sub onion rings for fries for $0.99, which felt fair. *Ambiance: it's pretty clean, open, and small, about ten tables inside. It felt comfortable and simple. There are a few tables out front and a picnic table under a big tree, which is a nice idea, but it's right off the main street so it's not super peaceful. *Value: it felt like a pretty good value. The pricing made sense for what you get, especially with the daily specials and combo options. Nothing felt overpriced. *Overall: this was a solid but not standout experience. Friendly people, great fries, good burger flavor, but the order accuracy and confusing explanation of specials held it back. I give it 3 out of 5 stars. It's a decent stop if you're in the area and want something casual and quick. I added a bunch of pictures to help you get a feel.

I was curious as to how the burgers I ordered would taste as it was a tad pricey at $18.00. The meat is a combined hormone free ground chuck and brisket. Comes with homemade potato chips, nice and crispy. I especially enjoyed the flavors of the goat cheese and balsamic drizzle with carmelized onions, roasted red peppers; all topped with a nice and fresh bun with a basil glaze spread. My husband ordered the Prosecutor burger with substituted Swiss, with bacon and avocado. He downed it so I know his was good too. I really want to come back and try the salmon BLT on a brioche bun sandwich. I paired my burger with a lavender lemonade, for $5.00 very refreshing. Total bill plus tax came in at $50.00 plus a tip. This place is worth looking for just be ready to spend a few extra dollars for some very flavorful American fare.

The town was hosting live music at the plaza across the street so we sat outside facing the plaza. It was a great way to enjoy our meal! The place was pretty packed because of the World Cup going on (Mexico vs Korea) so I understand why our server was a bit slow. She was handling tables inside and outside but keep in mind when it gets busy you may wait a bit longer for things. I ordered "The Steak" which is a hangar steak with a compound butter on top and Brussels sprouts on the side, I subbed potatoes for coleslaw. The steak was cooked nicely and had a great crust on the outside, very flavorful with just the right amount of saltiness. The Brussels were some of the best I've had even though they were so simple. I ate every last one! The slaw was ok but not a ton of flavor, it was pretty light on the sauce. We also got an order of bacon wrapped jalapeños with cilantro ranch. They were so good! We destroyed them in seconds while burning our tongues on the lava-like cheese. Worth it!

November 2025 Since…read moreI gave such a stellar review of the Bacon Crusted Burger at Street Side Ale House, I must update the comments since people do go to restaurants based on other's reviews. And I am so embarrassed to have recommended this restaurant to dozens of people. We raved to our friends about this place and this burger in particular. So, when we traveled with them to Paso Robles this week, we took them there on Thursday night. We passed on having the Wagyu 8 oz. burger and fries at In Bloom (Michelin listed) the night before in anticipation of this burger. Service was abysmal. We sat for quite some time with no service. My wife went in and asked where our server was? Finally, a woman showed up and said our waiter would be with us shortly. Sometime later, a friendly waiter arrived. He was obviously new, under-trained, and spread too thin. He was very personable, but our drinks sat on the bar for a long time and my wife had to go in and ask if she could take then. "No, the waiter will bring them out." Meanwhile, our friends were sipping on their drinks. We got our appetizers and then ordered our meals. The food came quickly, maybe too quickly, and I noticed no egg yolk oozing out (it was halved for us in the kitchen) and the burger overall was much thinner than the last time and the arugula was so wet under the patty. So, we ate a couple bites of it and it just did not taste right. I opened it up to find a baked or boiled grey patty with no crispy bacon wrapping. The bacon was soft, I mean boiled soft and was a small lump on top of the burger patty, not even close to crispy. More like a damp towel. The avocado was sliced but not spread out, so stuck on the left side. The egg was hard cooked with a solid yolk. No pepper to be found. I showed the waiter who was stunned. He thought we were kidding. The manger came out, looked at it, asked what we wanted to do. I was a bit surprised given the wreck that this burger was and said I don't know, what do you want to do? He said the chef wasn't there but took the plate back to the kitchen. He came back and said the chef (wait, he wasn't there) was surprised and said it was not right. The chef (if he was there) should have headed straight out to us and apologized. So, the manager took the burger off the bill but left the same horrible burger ($22) on our friend's bill. I should not have to tell a manager how to fix such a mess and disaster of a meal and service. I hope they fix their kitchen, whoever is checking food at the pass, and the service or they will be another casualty to the restaurant business in Paso. Sorry I had to write this as I rarely post negative reviews in order to not hurt a business and their employees.

a place that's leaning heavily on shortcuts in the kitchen rather than built-from-scratch…read moreexecution. Here's how your breakdown lines up: Burger (main miss) --frozen patty, no crust, unmelted cheese, weak sauce--usually means: * Pre-formed frozen beef puck (not fresh ground) * Cooked on a grill instead of a ripping-hot flat top (so no smash crust or Maillard flavor) * Cheese added too late or heat too low to melt it properly * Sauce under-portioned or used as a light spread instead of a flavor layer Result: bland, dry, and flat tasting burger Mac & cheese That "pasta + runny cheese water" texture is a classic sign of: * Pre-boiled pasta sitting in liquid * Cheese sauce broken or watered down * Very little actual cheese base (often just milk + starch + seasoning) So yeah--more "pasta dish" than mac & cheese. Salad (surprisingly the win) Good olive oil + vinaigrette can carry a salad hard. That's usually the only thing that doesn't rely on heavy kitchen execution, so it makes sense it stood out. Fries (another win) Crispy, salted fries usually come from: * Proper double fry or high-temp fry oil * Frozen fries done correctly (ironically, frozen can still be great if cooked right) Pulled pork Cheap BBQ sauce + pre-cooked pork is pretty standard for mid-tier spots. Not amazing, but at least it has flavor, unlike the burger. Beer Hard to mess up--good call there. Overall read of the place This is the vibe I'm getting: * Strengths: fryer, sauces (salad dressing), bar program * Weaknesses: grill station, mac & cheese, burger execution * Kitchen style: "assembly + reheating" more than scratch cooking

Craft Eatery which is located in downtown Paso across from the park. The ambiance was really nice. Modern and chic. We liked the design. We ordered 3 different things. This is the feedback from my friends after asking how they liked their food. Food: Pacific Rim salad with sriracha chicken. The salad was good but the chicken was dry. Cow tippin sliders - didn't ask how she wanted the meat cooked. Steak came out rare. Which she ate and said was ok but not preferred. She kept referring to the sliders as sliding everywhere between the rare meat and thick tomato slice. I had the Cabo chicken and summer bbq slider. Cabo chicken slider - The chicken was grilled and leaned on the dry side. I liked the chipotle aioli sauce. I didn't like the thick slice of tomato that came on it. Summer BBQ slider - was my favorite. The pull pork was good. My only suggestion is it could have used more bbq sauce on it as it was very little bbq sauce. The sweet potato fries were good and I liked the seasoning on them but a couple of them didn't feel all the way done. Wine - we had a glass of Quest wine and it was amazing. Def recommend this red if you visit. The service could have been better. There were long gaps in between our server checking in on us. But when they stoped by they were nice and split our check which was appreciated. Overall, the food was ok could have been better. The wine was amazing.
