We decided at the last moment today to go to the movies on a Friday night. That brought back some memories. I'd seen an ad for Hail Mary and found it at the Colony in A Town. We had time for dinner so off we went. Hum whats nearby the theatre, alot of places to eat really...we'd liked the A town diner before, the menu covers it all practically so...We parked seven o'clock the dinner tush had passed and in we went. We were seated at a small booth, perfect. Drink orders taken now we needed to decide what to eat. M went with a light breakfast offering a pancake, a scrambled egg and bacon. Hum it was dinner time dear, I needed more time. The fish & chips were the special and it was Good Friday but I went big with the hot pastrami sandwich. Fries are extra so I ordered the onion rings to accompany the sammie. Pretty quick the food was out of the kitchen and on the table in front of us, wow M dove right into that 7" pancake as soon as she finished pouring on the syrup. My sandwich was a hood size on a very soft french roll a good six inches Very tasty but I always think there should be more meat than bread, there was alot of bread in that roll. Where's the beef, right... Onion rings, nothing special your average frozen beer battered Moores onion ring served late but freshly hot. We had a good meal, good service and a fair price. Was it five star, no it was a good four star, we didn't need or want anything special. Now dessert was a calling from behind that glass display when we walked in the door but tonight the stomach and the wallet forgave. We were gonna need reason for movie concessions, right? We showed up here not knowing they would be closing in 15 minutes. I wanted to leave because I hated when that used to happen to me, but the very friendly server insisted we stay. I ordered a full breakfast and my wife ordered an ice cream sundae. Both were delicious, and service was super quick! We'll be back...during regular hours...soon! read more

Haven't been here since 2020 during Covid lockdown outside for breakfast. This is a classic diner with great pictures of old time Atascadero. I was really hoping it was going to be a good diner. We went Friday June 7 around 3:30ish. The place had 2 people at the counter eating and we were the only ones in the restaurant. The service was friendly and quick. The problem was I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich ( it had sooo much hard grizzle (inedible) it was half the meat) the sauce was something really spicy, there was hardly any sauted onions. Pretty much the worst Philly sandwich I've ever had. The price was $17.99 and didn't come with any sides. My husband ordered the Classic turkey club ($17.99). We ordered a basket of fried zucchini, a half and half basket of fries and onion rings. Again for the price I was not impressed. The service was excellent. The food was as bland as one could imagine. The gravy had no sausage, and if you wanted to add on your own it was $5 more. Even the chorizo burrito had no taste to it. So last time I was here was several years ago, I don't pass this way often going to San Francisco but it was on the path this time and was an appropriate time for breakfast / lunch / brunch. Tried the corn beef hash with their potatoes and scrambled eggs. Gf had the teriyaki burger which was good with the right amount of sauce. Fries served with the burger were seasoned just right as were my potatoes so additional sauce like ketchup wasn't needed. Jukebox was playing near the end of our meal adding to this very retro 50s diner vibe they got going on. Decent size parking lot. Service didn't take long from seating to being served, if anything the only delay was on our part deciding what to eat since they have many different and good sounding options. Order arrived with no bacon, it wasn't well done it was quite pink, and it had a tiny piece of cheese. The fries were overcooked and greasy. Although the food was good I was very disappointed with how they are handling the Covid precautions. Restaurant is open for dine in not one server was wearing a mask. We sat outside because we don't feel comfortable going inside. The menus not being wiped down between customers. Condiments not wiped down. They are supposed to have packets. I asked why no masks? The girl shrugged her shoulders and said "I don't know." Needless to say we won't be going back because it seems they don't care or are not taking it seriously enough. My family, friends, and I have been A-Town Diner fans for years. To our delight the new ownership has done an excellent job of keeping much of the best things about this Diner going and even making some improvements. It's evident that the transition was handled well and some of the best previous employees are back and the menu is nearly the same. My wife really appreciates that they continue to offer a gluten free bread option. The food is very good and the friendly service is appreciated. Hadn't been in a while and I know it changed hands. Been there many times and it has always been good. I went in today to get a burger. Food was good enough for the price point, but nothing special but I enjoyed it. Service was lackluster at best, and there were only 4 or 5 tables seated in the restaurant. My beverage sat empty for 5 minutes while my server, 50ish red headed woman, visited with a coworker in the service area, and when I finally got her attention and asked for a refill, she seemed irritated. I asked for extra napkins with my burger that she forgot to bring, and when I finally flagged her down half way through my meal and asked her again for extra napkins, she seem irritated again and brought me 3 napkins. She never checked back to see how my food was or if I needed anything. She dropped the check while I was still eating and never offered me dessert or anything else. I put my card down right away but she never came back to collect it. So after 10 minutes I took it up front myself and paid. Multiple employees walked by my empty drink and my check with the card on it and no one stepped up, no teamwork. I know it's a diner, but good, attentive service should be standard. read more

While the inside/seating was similar to other diners, this one had more of a family-owned vibe. Our servers were kind and pleasant. The food was good.
