    A steak cooked to perfection

This was the special this past weekend...it was wonderful! Tender and cooked perfectly, paired with a great IPA you can't go wrong with...when Autumn has a "special ", my advice is to go for it.

Comfortable, beautiful location. The food.....AMAZING!! The whipped goat cheese dip special, onion rings, fries, burgers, and chicken sandwich were the best we've had!! The flavors were on point! And the staff were the most helpful and kindest people!! Will definitely go back!!

    Korean cauliflower "wings"

Super casual, family and dog-friendly spot with a limited, but very tasty menu! Probably the best Korean cauliflower "wings" I've ever had - crunchy, sweet and spicy. The meat eaters in my family enjoy the Rock Burger with fries or crunchy onion rings. My first time here I went for the delicious mushroom tacos but the second time around they had a very tasty broccoli Caesar salad that I hope they offer again. The Bahn Mi tots were ok; we tried them for the novelty, but probably will not order them again. The dessert menu seems to change often, but our first time there we had an amazing key lime pie type dish that was incredible. All the above paired with tasty Wildfields brews on tap and Ancient Peaks wines. We will definitely keep coming back!

Such a great spot between Atascadero and Morro Bay. Burgers are some of the best in the county and always great beer on tap. The location is so nice and peaceful and service is top notch. A definite favorite.

Rock burger- incredible quality and locally sourced ingredients.

I'm way late to update this review. We've been here several times since our initial visit in 2020 or 2021, and it's been consistently excellent. The burgers are incredible, their specials always look delicious, the service is very friendly, and the vibe is great. Love the outdoor patio and lack of cell service for Verizon (PLEASE unclip my electronic "leash"). The confusion around ordering is no longer a thing- you order at the counter inside. The gochujang cauliflower "wings" are still beyond to-die-for, and they actively support other amazing local businesses. I'd definitely recommend a trip out! Get the Colony Mash seltzer if they have it.

This gem is located between Atascadero and Morro bay. "Halfway". Burger is comparable to the porch in Santa Margarita. High quality local and organic ingredients. Inside or outside seating which is perfect for all weather year round. The staff is kind and welcoming.

I've been wanting to go to Halfway Station for quite some time. I signed up for their concert email list and decided to go on a Saturday evening. I love the location, nestled in the mountains between Atascadero and Morro Bay. The parking lot is large, but if there's overflow, you can park in front of the restaurant on the side of Morro Road. - The location has indoor seating as well as multiple patios for outdoor seating. I would've liked to see a few umbrellas on the outdoor tables, although some of the tables are located under an awning while still being considered an outdoor table. There is also a large grass covered space where you can lay a blanket and have a picnic if you desire. Some of this lawn area is shaded. It's located by the stage. - I ordered food at the register and I appreciate this type of service model. I purchased the blood orange soda and falafel plate. I asked them to remove the bread. I appreciated that register attendant informed me that my falafel came with french fries. The french fries themselves were delicious as well as the vegetables that came with the falafel. The falafel was not as tender as I hoped. By no means was it dry, but the outside and inside were less moist than I would've liked. I also would've liked more tahini sauce. I thought the pricing was a bit high. A 25% mark down on both items would have been a little more appropriate. However, I like that all of the items including the silverware, plates, glassware, and napkins were plastic free. Thank you for caring about the environment.

Located on Highway 41, the Halfway Station is conveniently located in between Atascadero and Morro Bay. The Halfway Station has ample parking as well as a ton of outdoor and indoor seating. There is shaded and non-shaded areas to sit and overall the outdoor seating venue is just fantastic! They have a little stage outside as well, in which they do live music. The indoor seating has ample seating as well as a large bar area. The overall vibe is just very relaxed and welcoming and the employees are extremely helpful and friendly! They have a variety of local alcoholic beverages on the menu in which we ordered the Bristol's cider (one of our local favorites)! The menu is comprised of mainly burgers, sandwiches, and salads, as well as some great options for apps - our personal favorite were the cheese curds. Ordered the station burger (added avocado) and Bella burger (with meat), both with fries, and they were absolutely delicious! Our food came out relatively quick and hot! So glad I finally tried the Halfway Station as I was very impressed and will surely be back again soon!

Amazing food. Chef is talented. Cold beers. Nice people. Friendly. Kids can run around. They are biker friendly as it's a perfect spot to stop on a nice coastal ride. I even heard bikers camp there sometimes and can wrestler and do mma. Not sure about that but sometimes I hear it happens. Anyways, love the place, food, and all staff!

Chicken with fig. Crispy French fries.

Came in at 7:30 - was concerned I would be getting close to 8:00. Hostess graciously reassured me there's enough time. Ordered the chicken with fig and bacon. Delicious blend of flavors! Bacon can be requested to be not too crispy. Clean & organized. Will return ! Thank you!

    Sandwiches

We've been meaning to come here for years now and we finally made it this weekend! We had one of the burgers and a chicken sandwich and with a couple of ciders our total was about $50 which seemed fair for the quality. We totally recommend coming on a spring/sunny day, the patio is so lovely!!

In a word, the overall Six Test Kitchen experience was PERFECTION! Thank you to Chef Ricky and his team for creating a very unique and special dining experience. Food: Delicious. Beautiful. Sumptuous. Thoughtful. Creative. Props to the chef for taking great care not to serve us cilantro, which one of us can't eat. He went out of his way to ask us questions about this prior and we were so grateful for his clear communication to ensure we had a great experience. We enjoyed 14 (!) tastings and we were stuffed afterwards - which is quite surprising since the tastes are small. We did not order the wine pairings and are so glad we didn't because we think we would have been too full to enjoy all of the food. We saved our wine tasting for the previous and following days when visiting wineries, and we didn't feel it was necessary to include with this experience. We took a few photos of the food, but didn't want to spend a lot of time taking photos (since we wanted to really enjoy the food) and then luckily, we met a couple the next day at our hotel who also had dined at the restaurant at the same time we did, and they shared more photos too. So I'll include all of those photos here. Ambience: Comfortable and Intimate. We felt like we were on an episode of Hell's Kitchen - the lighting is dim-ish, you are sitting around a bar next to 11 other patrons, looking into the kitchen with steel appliances and counters and watching the chefs prepare your food very diligently. Service: Straightforward. Each chef that delivered the food was polite, but not overly chatty as they were focused on preparing and delivering the food. We can't say enough about our first Six Test Kitchen experience. We have been raving about it ever since we dined in February. On our next trip to Paso Robles, which we hope is soon, we plan to go back. We made sure to make our reservation well in advance as we had heard it books up, so make sure to mark your calendar if you want to go! Value: We thought the experience was well-priced. The very next day, we had booked a six-course dining experience at Justin Winery. It was quite good and was about the same price, and we felt Six Test Kitchen was just a better value and experience overall. We would choose Six Text Kitchen over that experience for a Michelin-star tasting experience that was truly immersive and fun. To end the night, they presented the menu to us detailing all a list of all of the food we enjoyed and signed it. A very nice touch! Can't wait to come back and enjoy another memorable evening with the Six Test Kitchen team!!!!

There is a quiet drift happening across the Michelin world. Increasingly, the path to a star seems…read morepaved in caviar tins and gold leaf -- a kind of luxury arms race where the ingredient does the talking and the kitchen merely arranges. It is dazzling, often. Memorable, rarely. Six Test Kitchen, tucked into Paso Robles, refuses this bargain. Here, the cooking comes first, and the cooking is the point. What strikes you within the first few courses is the density of intention. Nothing is incidental. Each bite arrives with the unmistakable weight of decisions made -- temperatures dialed, timings rehearsed, components layered with the patience of a kitchen that would rather be precise than impressive. The plates are small; the experience is not. The chawanmushi, frankly, is the finest I have eaten -- and I have sat through a handful of Japanese-focused starred rooms that stake their reputations on this dish. I cannot tell you exactly how Six Test Kitchen achieves it, but I can tell you what I tasted. A dashi that speaks of hours, not minutes. A soy element infused with something quieter and more aromatic than the bottle suggests. An egg pressed through cheesecloth until the custard arrives bubble-free, glassy, almost solemn. Steam temperature held with the discipline of a pastry kitchen. Each component is, on its own terms, a peak. Stacked together, the dish becomes the sort of thing you remember in the car ride home and again the following week. This is the restaurant's signature, in the truest sense: not a dish, but a willingness to go deep. A few quibbles, offered in the spirit of a kitchen this serious deserving serious notes. The Wagyu, please, as an addition -- not a substitution. Wagyu is the kitchen equivalent of a cheat code; a competent line cook can make it land. The pork on the original menu was the more interesting question, and I was sorry not to get the chance to answer it. Let guests pay up for the Wagyu alongside the dish the chef actually wanted to cook. The hamachi wants real wasabi. The green sauce at the center of the plate is fine -- pleasant, even -- but next to the rest of the menu it reads as the one course coasting. A whisper of fresh-grated wasabi root would lift it into the same conversation as everything around it. There is a wasabi farm in Half Moon Bay, which would also keep faith with the restaurant's local commitments. If you are here for the food -- and you should be -- $275 is, surprisingly, fair. Twelve seats a night, this much labor in every plate, a kitchen this committed: the math does not particularly favor the house. The pairing is a different conversation. Pleasant pacing, nothing revelatory. Skippable, in my view, though I understand why it exists; this is Paso, and the wine is what keeps the lights on.

For starters, we tried both the crab bisque and the arugula salad. The salad was dressed well and fluffed nicely. The shaved fennel added a nice crunch to the salad and the beets added that nice earthy sweetness. It was a little odd the beets were just two thick slices on the bottom though...not exactly conducive to eating as a salad. As for the crab bisque, it featured a generous amount of crab meat making the soup sweet yet seafood forward. For mains, we tried the breakfast pasta and the lemon mafaldine. The mafaldine honestly blew me away. The lemon was bright with pops of freshness from the mint and the sauce was creamy but not too thick! The breakfast pasta tasted like an upgraded carbonara. The meatiness of the bacon lardon was probably my favorite part of the dish. For dessert, we went with one of each. The strawberry sorbet fit the weather better but the chocolate torte did have that fudgy richness that you just want for the weekend. But, as previously stated, if the pre-fixe menu wasn't required, we probably also could have gone without it. Servicewise, Nate's was impressive. Fountain drinks refills were swapped seamlessly, dishes were described impeccably, and I also loved the little postcard they wrote for our anniversary. Details matter, and Nate's nailed it here.
