Oat Bakery is a Scandinavian-owned gem with three locations around Santa Barbara: downtown SB, Old Town Goleta, and Montecito inside the Montecito Country Mart. Personally, I'm partial to the Goleta location since it offers a small breakfast and lunch menu My go-tos are the Spring Greens Sandwich, Trout Toast, and the Farmer's Market Frittata, which always feels fresh and seasonal. I'm also mildly obsessed with their Olive Rosemary Focaccia and the jalapeño basil cashew spread. Honestly, I'd put that spread on just about anything. Service is counter style with friendly staff, and there's a beautiful glass case showcasing the day's dishes and fresh breads. I love a good visual moment when deciding what to order, and this place definitely delivers. Just note that popular items can sell out, so going earlier is better. Their bread menu changes depending on the season and produce availability, which keeps things interesting. You'll also find gluten-free options, sweets, and dry goods if you want to take a little something home. The patio is cute and sun-filled, perfect for lingering with coffee and a pastry. If you're looking for great sourdoughs look no further, the charcoal sourdough is amazing, their oat cookie tastes great, their truffle spread is light and great addition. Everything they have there is amazing, I've gotten their other sourdough and their really good but my favorite is the charcoal. The service is great as well, their oat cookie staff are knowledgeable and kind, feel welcomed. The ambience is cozy, clean and I guess my only issue here is parking which is not their fault. It's just the way it is, can be very difficult to find parking but outside of that I would fully recommend oat bakery. I've gone to all three locations , the one in downtown on Hailey is their main facility which you'll find their focaccia olive bread which tastes amazing there, their montecito one is great as well and it's much easier to find parking as it's located near the Vons plaza on coast village road. read more

Got a sage garlic bun today to make a sandwich at work with my moms amazing ribs she made. Spent 8 on the bun, and 4 for the sweet girl at the cashier to toast it for me, then her incompetent coworker decides to tell her that she can't toast my buns and to put it in the oven instead. I wait 3-5 minutes to receive my bread to then arrive at work with un toasted buns and cold unmelted cheese. The goods here are incredible. I had the fava bean toast and the hyyge bun. The fava beans are mixed with some cucumbers and lemon for some tanginess and laid out on a bed of delicious sourdough and ricotta. I would have this everyday. The hygge (huga) bun tasted like a healthy cinnamon bun, soo good, 10/10. There is some indoor (limited) and outdoor seating. I decided to sit outdoors and it was absolutely relaxing - great atmosphere! Parking is limited, it is street parking - there is a lot right next to the bakery but it specifically says no oat bakery parking. The service was good but I did feel a little rushed to order. The bakery charges 20% fee if you try to order for pickup. At least that's what I was told when I called this morning. I was already on my way over there, hoping the sandwich would be ready by the time I'm there because I needed to get to work quickly, but I was hit with the unfortunate charge. I declined placing an order, it felt ridiculous to pay extra for something that all other food establishments do as a courtesy. We were walking around Old Town Goleta with our great coffee from Old Town Coffee (just off a plane, I wanted to walk.) We came across Oat Bakery, obviously closed but with staff cleaning up so we stopped to talk to them. Since we love good bread, they were nice enough to go out to someone's delivery car, and opened up the cash register to sell us fresh, hot bread that was going to be delivered to their other store in Santa Barbara (on Haley.) They were so nice and thoughtful, and the bread is delicious (sesame charcoal something else, I forget.) Unfortunate ambiance if you're looking to enjoy your quick bite to eat -- the only seating is 2 concrete picnic tables right at the edge of a busy street -- but it's somewhat pleasant if the weather is perfect. I always end up sitting there anyways, hopefully management can work out a courtyard set up someday. (Seating, greenery, music, a few cushions?) They now have coffee!!!!! And, I think, also decaf? Very clean and modern inside, you can see the bakers working which is very cool. Friendly staff. I'm a bakery snob. Sourdough bread? Only Tartine in SF will do, NOT the Tartine in Seoul, Korea. How do I know this? Because my daughter is a carbavore from day 1 and I've spent over a decade appeasing her cravings. Even in foreign countries!!! Hence the note on Tartine in Seoul. So we're here for a month in SB and sure enough she asks for FRESH sourdough bread. I check out Oat Bakery and get 2 small charcoal sourdough rolls. WOW. This bread is better than Tartine. The absolute BEST place in Goleta for lunch. All their toasts, soups, salads, etc. are sooo good. Everything is high quality and fresh. The filling was literally a huge mound in the middle. I loved the prosciutto, but couldn't really appreciate the fact that it was paired with 3 layers of cheese eslicThe cheese was entirely too thick, like 3 layers of cheese is a lot, especially when they're improperly put in the sandwich as a giant stack. It's like the person making it has never eaten it before. The ingredients have a lot of potential if they were better distributed and the ratio was tuned better. Oat in Santa Barbara has amazing bread and Oat in Goleta is no different. I don't even need or prefer gluten-free bread. but I will always buy anything from Oat because it's just top-notch baked goods. Their olive focaccia is off the hook and they have tons of lovely chewy seedy yums that are truly delicious. These are clearly artisan products and though expensive it's indicative of that adage 'you get what you pay for.' Either location is great! This location has some seating while the Santa Barbara location does not, so that is nice to have if you want to chill out for a bit. A great addition to Old Town Goleta. read more
