After trying a donut from slodoco at my job, I was very interested in stopping by and trying one of the specialty flavors from slodoco! I ended up ordering a lavender latte and Nutella pillow donut. I just waited a brief moment for my latte but otherwise everything came out quick! I dug in immediatelyyyy. It was so good! Definitely hit the spot. The donut was fluffy and not too sweet. The latte had a good ratio of flavors and also not too sweet. Since coming to slodoco the first time, I'll find myself from time to time wanting a donut from here specifically again. I also love the hearty drip coffee. It's perfect to balance my sweet, scrumptious donut. I've had some of the seasonal donuts but my favorites are the Tiger tail (glazed twist with chocolate behind the counter) and the apple fritter. I also appreciate that the prices are reasonable. Been to some places where the "artisanal" donuts are more than $4 and not worth it. The most that I'm paid for a donut (my giant apple fritter that I can eat for days) is $3.95. We took a day trip to the area and I was craving a chocolate glazed donut, so finding out this place was open 24 hours made it an easy stop. The staff was friendly, although the donut selection was a little picked over when we arrived. My chocolate glazed donut was delicious, and they still had several specialty donuts to choose from. Inside there is not much seating unless you arrive early as there are lots of college students inside but I wanted my donuts to go so it worked out. My husband and I were passing through the area on our way to Solvang. I'm so glad we stopped here! We stepped inside to see the place had a huge lounge area were a big variety of board games. It was warm and welcoming. The donuts, oh man, so many choices! I was overwhelmed since I wanted to try so many but I'm the end, we decided on Apple fritter bites, espresso donut, pecan cinnabomb, powered sugar cake, Boston creme pie, and a raised glazed. I had the Boston creme pie, powdered sugar cane, and raised glazed. My favorites. Everything was fresh and tasted as they should. The donuts were soft and fluffy. With the perfect amount of density. I stopped into Slodoco Donuts over Fourth of July weekend while trying to find a quiet spot away from fireworks for me and my dog--and I'm so glad I did. This place is such a gem. I was immediately excited by their selection of croissants and specialty coffees. I'm very happy to report that both were delicious. If I lived closer, I'd be here way too often... which is probably exactly why it's a good thing I don't! Whenever I want to test the quality of a coffee shop, I order a Dirty Chai, and Slodoco did not disappoint. Their Dirty Chai was perfectly balanced--spiced, smooth, and exactly what I was hoping for. The croissant I ordered was also great. It's not a super flaky, layered French-style croissant; it's more on the dense side with fewer layers, but that also means way less mess in the car, so honestly that's a win in its own way. The only small challenge for me was not knowing whether dogs were allowed inside. I didn't want to risk it, so I left my dog in the car. Completely fine for a quick stop-in, but I couldn't see the parking lot from inside since the shop faces the opposite direction. I can see this spacious location become such a nice third space. Lots of board games & books. Lots of seating at 9am. The donuts are so delicious, the kids say. we're enchanted by the arcade machines and kept getting up to watch upclose. Get your dirty dog Doughnuts here! Almost every time Ive come here there's a dog up on the tables lapping up whipped cream out of a cup or sitting all over the benches. For the record Service dogs would never behave this way so it's clear that's not the case. It's completely unsanitary and the staff doesn't care. Once the person leaves nobody comes over and cleans the tables they just leave it for the next unsuspecting customer to have dog feet and butt all over their food. read more

Backstory: On my way back from Lompoc, I decided I needed a second pick me up before the long trek down to LA. To my surprise, as I was just about to start heading home, I see the sign for SLODoCo in the plaza. For folks who dont know the significance, SLODoCo stands for San Luis Obispo Donut Company. When I was in the area, they would only be located near SLO which would normally be another 1-2 hr drive north from SB. I had asked the worker there and she mentioned how they had just opened up last October. Upon entering, it was definitely made for the SB college students that needed a study or board game area, especially one that was open 24 hours. I opted for the dozen because I'm not sure when the next time I'll be in the area and also they have a 10% discount on ordering a dozen too. Generally the donuts were slightly sweeter than what I remember them to be. The flour used however was really good in my opinion. It didn't stick to your teeth after eating Some of the donuts I ordered: Lavender donuts: The lavender felt very faint in relation to the sugars in the donut. I was kind of expecting a more floral flavor to make it stand out more. Matcha donuts: I do think they also fall under the same faults as the lavender above, but I could more easily taste the matcha here. Toffee Coffee: I did order it, but my parents swiped it before I could try it unfortunately old fashioned (chocolate & maple): I feel the texture of the old fashion left a bit more to be desired. Possibly my getting donuts late at night, but the outer texture should be a bit more crispy i feel. normal (sugar and glazed) : You can't go wrong with the tried and true I feel. I normally don't do sweets but these are substantial, not too dense and has the right amount of sweetness. parking was no issue as it's located in a shopping plaza with a target or what used to be kmart, back in my day. the workers there were helpful and patient when it came to my turn ordering. The staff is great and despite the busyness, I didn't find it too loud. The atmosphere feels pleasant, warm, and productive. It can get busy though especially with late night students so you might find it hard to get a spot so get here before the late night rush. These flavors sounded so fun considering these were combos we always enjoyed. Especially creme brûlée, as it is my favorite dessert, I was really hopefully. My hope fell! The creme brûlée was not flavorful and the custard in the middle was curdled :( The fruity pebble was ok, tasted like glaze with soggy cereal. Mint was not bad. Matcha was not good, tasted like a vanilla donut which was odd. Maple was simple. The buttermilk bar, as lain as it was, was definitely the best one! This place has so many things to choose from, but I wish they focused on making a smaller amount of desserts with higher quality. I really wanted to love this new location because it's right around the corner from me, but honestly it was kind of a flop it has only been open 2 days so I will probably come back to try it again later this month once they get into a better swing of things as I know openings can be hectic. Went around 9am today and there was a short line but I was helped almost immediately. There is a large selection of donuts, with one big case at the counter and a whole back wall filled with donuts. This place has a lot of seating available and a wall of games that you can play while sitting there as well as a few arcade style machines which is a cute vibe! I asked for a chocolate frosted raised and a "raspberry buttermilk brain". When I left and opened my box I was a bit disappointed because the girl helping me gave me a maple custard instead of my raspberry buttermilk brain! Decided to try the maple anyways instead of going back because it's an honest mistake and I think she was just a bit overwhelmed. The chocolate frosted raised donut was pretty basic, definitely not the best one I've had in the area. The texture was gummy inside and not airy like I would have expected. The flavor was good overall. The maple custard was okay, I'm not a big maple girly but it had good flavor and the custard was fresh. I also ordered a medium vanilla iced latte, and I felt so bad because the girl on the espresso bar was having a rough time pulling my shots. She must've pulled 5 shots that she dumped out before going to get a manager (?) who came and helped her finally pull a solid double shot. The latte had an okay flavor, albeit the espresso tasted a little burnt. This place has a lot of hype around it with their creative donut presentation and flavors so I was honestly expecting a bit more, but like I said it's the opening week so I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt! If you're lucky there are two people working the counter but usually it's just one. And if someone in front of you places a coffee order then you might as well pitch a tent because you're gonna be there for awhile. I'd probably give it 3 1/2 stars if I could, but decided to round down. The donuts were all OK but nothing wowed me in the slightest. I was excited to try the pillow donuts. I got one with Nutella and one bear claw with apple filling. Just really nothing special I would've hoped for more Nutella and the Apple filling was just very plain. The regular glazed donuts chocolate were all good. The apple fritter was OK as was the cinnamon roll but again good but nothing special. The only other thing was, I didn't care for the maple flavoring that they use. It tasted too artificial. I was in early on a Sunday morning and the girls working there were friendly and fast. They have a small seating area inside, but it doesn't really compare to the large outdoor seating they have at the Camino Real marketplace. I'll definitely give it another shot or two and could easily see it improving to four stars based on the large selection they have, but mostly because of the seating I would probably still go for Anna's if I was in a donut mood. read more
