My friends and I were visiting Santa Barbara for their birthday and decided to do AmazingCo's Original Mystery Picnic. D' Angelo's Bakery was included in our stops as 1/9 places our mystery picnic led us to. The woman who helped us was a ball of sunshine who helped us pick pastries and made sure my friend's' birthdays started out amazing. I have to be honest that D'Angelo's Bakery was the plan B after another cafe recommended by yelp was wall-to-wall; However, this place will now be one I frequent on my visits to Santa Barbara & I highly recommend to anyone stopping through and seeking a delicious, beautiful breakfast. We sat outside with the beautiful views of Spanish-influenced architecture and fresh green spring mountains, with the pier and ocean peeking through the peripheral. OMG, died and gone to bread heaven. This is the place where carbohydrate dreams are baked. We have grabbed Danish and Bread here twice. The pastries are Su Perb. Cheese Danish, Cherry or Blueberry. This bakery is such a gem with amazing pastries and breakfast foods. We love going here in the morning and taking a few pastries and lattes to the beach down the road. The poppyseed twist and chocolate croissant are a couple standouts in my book. The avocado toast portion is huge and very filling and delicious. The way I GASPED in excitement as soon as I walked into D'Angelo's and saw their baked goods. I was basically buzzing through our meal because I was so ready to go buy some scones and pretzels to go and they did not disappoint. The savory herb scone was so good, and I will absolutely be forcing my friend to bring me back for it. It's so hard to find soft pretzels these days, and the cheesy ones were a hit. For breakfast, I got a latte (nice and huge); and the Egg "Rose" which is poached eggs on artichoke spread on olive bread. This was delicious although cooled very quickly. I wished that the bread was thicker - D'Angelos seems to only do a thin slice (even when you purchase a bread loaf, they do not ask you for your preference). I was getting tired of the drinks/pasties at Dune, which was the closest coffee shop to my office when I was in SB. So I stopped by D'Angelo's one morning before work to see what they had. You will find this bakery on Gutierrez Street. Lot #12 next door is free for the first 75 minutes and then $3 per hour. There are some spots by the green-painted curb if you're doing pick-up only. Didn't spend too much time looking around, but I saw they have some seating indoors, outdoors by the sidewalk, and in the alley next to the building. They have a wide range of dishes in the morning like french toast, benedicts, and huevos rancheros to name a few. Their Egg Rose was featured by former Iron Chef Cat Cora on an episode of Food Network's "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" several years ago. It comes with two poached eggs, olive toast, and an artichoke spread. I didn't have time to order that, maybe next time! For lunch they have mostly sandwiches, soups, and sides. The bakery section has pastries, muffins, tarts, and other artisan breads. On the beverage menu they have your typical espressos, loose-leaf teas, and non-caffeinated drinks. I was disappointed with how dry the chocolate muffin was, considering I was here early before 8AM. It had a very coarse and dense texture to it. Latte was nothing to write home about either. While exploring Santa Barbara, someone mentioned this cute little bakery as a must visit. A little bit off the infamous State Street, we knew we had to visit. You can order to go at the counter or be seated with table service. They offer breakfast, lunch, pastries, and baked goods along with alcoholic drinks and coffees. I got the avocado toast, all American breakfast, and a ham and cheese croissant. The ham and cheese croissant was absolutely amazing! Light and airy, and so full of flavor. The American breakfast was as you would imagine, my daughter loved it because you could get a side of Nutella! There's nothing better than their fresh house-baked baguette, whipped butter and house made raspberry preserves. We actually got to see the baguettes going in on a conveyor belt into the oven, and coming out 10ish minutes later. AND, we got one -- literally fresh off the line! It was DIVINE. It transported me back to my time in Paris over 20 years ago. Smoked Salmon Benedict: French baguette layered with locally smoked Scottish salmon, flawlessly cooked poached eggs, and a house-made hollandaise sauce. The smoked salmon had a subtle smokiness which perfectly complements the mild hollandaise sauce. Egg "Rose" - poached eggs on kalamata olive toast topped with house-made Mediterranean artichoke spread. The salty creaminess of the artichoke spread is a perfect foil to the cooked-to-perfection poached eggs, but the dish could have used some arugula or slivers of red onion to add another texture element and offset the one-dimension notes of the spread and egg yolk. Their chai latte and mate latte were both disappointing in how bland and 'thin' they were - in spite of asking for oat milk which tends to be creamy, these were not. They were flavorless and we couldn't get past the first few sips. Customer service, quality of care, great ingredients and the baguette-experience rank this as 5 stars in spite of the weak lattes. I decided to try to d'Angelo's after walking past it on just a casual walk in the neighborhood. You could tell it was a legit bakery with a small seating area with visibility to the kitchen.
