I've been coming here for years, it's quite a drive from the Southside but it brings back good memories of when my husband and I use to come here as broke college kids and share desserts. I've had a big sweet tooth and really love the uniqueness of desserts. It is pricy, at about $4.50-$6.50 a slice but worth it if you're into Japanese/Hawaiian desserts.
I came here today with my BFFs and we all ordered something different to share. If you love green tea, you can't go wrong with the green tea tiramisu. It's layered with a light, fluffy sponge cake and velvety smooth matcha cream. I particularly love this because it isn't overly sweet and you can really taste the tea. The combination is smooth and melts in your mouth, I wish the slice was bigger but it's because I'm fat and could probably kill a whole cake myself. 5/5, if there is one thing you need to get here: this would be it!
I'm going to to through a variety of desserts I've consumed both today and on other visits and share my thoughts.
Creme caramel, this is pretty much a flan. The first few bites, I wasn't sure if this was worth it but as we dug into the cup, I started to like it more. 3.5/5, not a favorite but for the price I wouldn't order this again. It's eggy and elegantly smooth but for $4.50, I would get a cake. The caramel is chilled but not thick so it creates a thin, sugary sauce. It's perfect - not burnt but an amber color.
Sweet potato custard pie is a seasonal dessert. The way it was decorated made me want it, it's not your grandma's sweet potato pie. The pie is filling is dense, the dough isn't very flakey. It's slightly custardy and has hints of nutmeg and small pieces of sweet potato,3.5/5 because I thought it was almost too savory.
Soufflé cheesecake: light, airy and delicious! 5/5, I really like this one because it's tart and sweet but doesn't make you feel the way you feel if you got a slice from Cheesecake Factory. The cheesecake filling is creamy but not heavy, I think it's mascarpone cheese and NOT cream cheese, makes all the difference.
Cassis tart: highly recommend if you're into anything tart. It's a very unique flavor, and is presented in a mousse-like concoction similar to the tiramisu, 4/5.
Coconut macadamia bread pudding: WINNER! 5/5, texture is perfect and the flavor profile is great! Macadamia nuts add a hint of nuttiness and there's a ton of shredded coconut throughout the dense bready goodness. I LOVE this one, brings me back to Hawaii!
Iced green tea latte, 4/5. Better than Starbucks for sure. I would have liked more green tea powder but with a few packets of sugar in the raw, I drank it happily with my desserts.
