HiPoint, you're fast, but way too unreliable for me. My condo building signed up for HiPoint recently, and I was excited to have 100+ Mbps service -- both upload and download. Everything went fine with the install, but my speeds were nowhere near the reported 100 Mbps. They said it was because we were in the 'installation phase' and everything would be fine within a week. Sure enough, a week later, the speeds were back up. And, not less than a day after that, the internet went down for a few DAYS. Thankfully I hadn't canceled Comcast yet. In the past 6 weeks since I've had their service, there have been at least 5 sporadic outages lasting hours and even DAYS. While I love the idea of higher speed internet, I also rely on it. Outages happen, I get it, but clearly they have a LOT of technical work to do in order to be a robust provider. Their sales team is friendly, but their customer service is atrocious. I've had to send multiple emails, received back conflicting information from their support reps, and most of the time I don't even get a response. The major communications I've received from them are apology notes, blasted to their entire customer base, for continual outages. I had to send them 4 emails with a request to cancel before they finally got back to me. Hopefully, my request goes through. I'm done! read more

Writing a review for Roosevelt: He went above and beyond what his call was for. My internet and television were not connected, he knew exactly what he was doing to get them working again so I can access OnDemand. On top of that, Roosevelt programmed a new remote AND connected my Yamaha Sound Bar to my television remote so I no longer have to deal with the hassle of having multiple remotes floating around. He was kind and made sure before he left that I had no more questions or concerns. All in all, great technician! read more

I've been without internet connection for three days now. The internet outage began on 1/7/2018 at 9pm, it's now 1/10/2018 at 2am and I still don't have an internet connection. I called them Tuesday afternoon, they told me to unplug my router for 2-3 min, which I had tried before calling them. I was told that they would call back once they figure out the issue. I've experienced outages with them before but non have lasted more than a day and I've been with them for a year. UPDATE: it's 01/10/2018 at 5:30pm and the internet connection has finally been restored. I didn't have to call them, hopefully I don't have this problem again. read more

I had an amazing cutomer experience today with HiPoint! Unfortunately, I messed around with my settings and disconnected my router from my wireless internet. (Don't press the reset button unless you know what you're doing!) After fiddling with it for hours, I called HiPoint and not only did they answer right away, Reshmi walked me through the process to get things back in order. I was so relieved! She was extremely patient, professional and compentent. It's very comforting to know there are real people behind a brand who can help when you're in distress. What everyone else said: worst internet service I've ever used. I have to use them in my building and am on a 20mbps plan. But everytime I use a third party application to test the speed I'm between 7 and 13. I've never seen it higher than 15. Streaming movies? Forget about it. It goes in and out constantly. Now I'm going to pay an extra $30/mo to upgrade to the next speed tier. Yay. Hopefully this gets me usable internet. read more

It's the best internet I have had and I recommend it to everyone. Technical support is phenomenal! They are very quick with answering emails, and they provide outstanding customer service. I asked them to temporarily suspend my service, and the customer support was nothing less than remarkable! They offered me money back for one month during which I was not using the service. When I was ready to get the service back, I just let them know and within a couple of hours got an email with reinstatement confirmation. The technician came the next day and reinstated my service, and on top of it all, they did not charge me for the remaining one week of the month! They are always ready to work with you with whatever issue you might have, just need to email them. Go with HiPoint! read more

If I could give no stars I would. This company is worthless. The Internet service is decent at best, and that's when it's working. Our condo building switched to HiPoint a few years ago and it has been a constant flood of outages at least once a week. They never last long, but they happen. It got to the point where HiPoint felt so "bad", they gave us all a faster speed but you'd never know. It all seemed the same as before. Another outage this morning and I do all the basic things they ask us to do: restart the wireless router and computer. When that didn't work, I called tech support. (The fourth time in 3 weeks) I was asked to restart the router and computer, did that AGAIN. I was asked to check any component that wasn't wireless. I did, our DVD player is connected by a wire to the wall for internet, no signal. The tech then said she re-started or re-sent a new IP address to my router and guess what, IT WORKED. But apparently it's still an issue on my end. Don't know how that works, when I've done everything I can do, and the tech does something on their end and it comes back, but it's still an issue on my end. Weird. Many people in our building who have issues are told to buy new routers by tech reps because theirs are "failing". Beware and choose a different provider please. read more

They mistakenly put my service up at 90 UP and then when I called they told me to do a speed check. After that they reduced me to 5 UP. What the fuck? If you have a choice, stay away. read more

My internet went out late last week, seemingly for no reason. I called HiPoint, and they helped me make an appointment at my next possible convenience. Richard Rainey came out and determined quickly that it was an issue downstairs, went down to reconnect me to a different point (yeah, totally technical language I'm using here), and boom, I was back in business. He was very professional and friendly, and represented the company very well. The speeds with HiPoint are pretty awesome, and other than this, I've had no issues with them. My building just changed over to HiPoint and I admit I was apprehensive since I work from home. On the 2nd day I lost access to internet and was panicking. I called a HiPoint rep who advised they would send a tech in the morning since I was unable to figure out the mess behind my tv. I also e-chatted with a rep via their website who wanted to continue to help me but it was so late in the evening, I ended the chat. I spoke again with someone in the morning who said he would try to get me a tech as soon as possible...he actually arrived in the middle of my call. He was so courteous and patient. Actually all were very patient. We discovered there were lots of unnecessary cables behind my console from years with Comcast and RCN so it kept unplugging the cord to the new router. HiPoint is super responsive! I felt really bad about my panicking. I'd give them 5 stars but I wish the initial installation was not as rushed (maybe could have removed some of the unnecessary cables and not disconnect my dvd player)...somgoing with 4 stars for now. For the past 15 months I have lived in a building in The West Loop that Hi Point is the preferred internet provider. The internet went down again today since I've used the company; and as in the past, support could provide no timing on when the issue would be resolved. This definitely effects my employment when it happens as I work remotely. Very Frustrating. It would be helpful if the company would send out email updates so that we that work from home can plan accordingly. It's time for me to switch to mobile wifi. read more

Our building switched to HiPoint shortly after we became an association and were able to evaluate (and terminate) our contract with MDU. HiPoint was very aggressive and showed a lot of enthusiasm in servicing our building. A major concern of ours was that we find a company we could rely on as we had numerous outages with our previous provider and dependable service was a must. HiPoint has exceeded our expectations responding to our concerns immediately as well as providing a detailed description on the status of the issue. The most amazing thing about HiPoint (in addition to the enthusiasm of their team members) is that they deliver a fast, reliable Internet connection. The connection speeds we receive are far superior to what you get with Comcast or AT&T as there are no "bursts" of speed. This means you can stream HD video (a la Netflix) without stutters or interruptions (we couldn't even watch YouTube videos when we were with MDU). I would highly recommend HiPoint to any properties interested in switching to an Internet provider that cares about the quality of service they deliver as this is something clearly lacking in the residential Internet Industry. read more

Just as the others have said - speeds not as advertised. I don't get what I pay for. They consistently blame it on my equipment, but it's not my equipment that's the issue. Every time I call, I force them to reset my port and the speeds come back up...for about 40min, then it gets throttled. Whoever their sales guy is that's gets them into these buildings is slicker than grease. They shouldn't be operating as a business at all. I haven't experienced any of the issues that the 1-star reviewers have. I'm literally saving money, a lot of money, and able to stream anything I want without issue. When my building switched to HiPoint, it was a big decision. The representatives that came out were great and I must say that it's nice to work with a local company. Every Internet provider has issues and outages. Sometimes, if the weather is really bad, your power might go out. All utilities have service interruptions. I don't think that HiPoint's service is any worse than the big companies that make you sit around for an 8am-4pm service call. If your Internet goes down, call them, then find something else to do. Picking up a book, maybe walking to a coffee shop could be a good alternative than raging on Yelp. read more

Great customer service. I'm a senior citizen, living in the Gold and not tech savvy. I had an issue connecting to the internet on my iPad and a very nice tech, Omer, came to my home and helped me solve the problem. He followed up with me two weeks later to ensure everything was working. I've now lived in 2 building where HiPoint was the ISP provider. All I can say is that service and support are highly misrepresented and they just can't seem to ever deliver on their promises. Can't wait till we eventually move to a new place and get a decent ISP for a change. read more

OCT 2016 UPDATE Major improvements I feel warrant raising the rating to max: The president of the co has really stepped things up: in recent months, I've seen immediate communication when there was a service issue, frequent updates, and proper resolution. Furthermore, I've been able to escalate multiple old issues directly and have them properly investigated and resolved. It had been a very frustrating year (or more) of asking for fixes, so seeing this kind of attention (finally) and perseverance (issues were NOT simple) gives me hope in the future of this company. I hope others who have HiPoint have also seen similar improvements lately and hope it will continue. UPDATE 1-30-2016 Raising rating to 3/5 thanks to not having outages lately, and some competent techs they have. Would have been 4/5 if the Speeds were good and consistent (5/5 maybe in a year or two of reliable, consistently fast service). You only get the advertised speed (30/30 here) when testing with the nearest server (e.g. speedtest.net). BUT in the real world, your internet data comes from all over the world and hops many locations before arriving. Using a more realistic speed test from Cogent (Hi Point uses their network), and internethealthtest, shows ~5 to 10 Mbps down(seems to slow down in the evening), 5+ up. Thankfully it's not always that low, YouTube and Netflix get 5~15Mbps thanks to their widespread servers. Cogent is infamous for bad routing, but seems a bit worse than typical for them. I don't know if it's Cogent's fault, Hi Point's, or something in between. 2015: When it works, the speed is great and there are no data caps. Wonderful, right? Problem is, at the SLIGHTEST HINT of bad weather, there's a service interruption. If you hear thunder, guaranteed service WILL drop for anywhere between 5 minutes to hours. Everyone keeps repeating the same complaints about this company, for years as far as I can see from reviews. Get your $#!+ together, Hi Point..... Reliability is by far the most important aspect of good internet service. read more

We too had some major outages this winter. I understand some unforeseen outages but their lack of communication during these extended outages (lasted for 3+ days) is extremely frustrating. Their call center is a joke. Price and performance (when working) is very competitive however. Also, I upgraded my service to 20mb/s from 10mb/s in the middle of the month... plus the 3 day outage. They didn't prorate and charged me for the entire month. I think they should have waited until the following month to start billing higher rate... or at least prorate. I've also tried to upgrade last summer. Left messages and email but did not receive a response. It's not just their technical staff but their accounts people are very unresponsive. You can't reach them even if you're trying to give them more money. read more

I'm clueless, and the tech guy was really nice and professional and showed me how to work everything, like hooking up the internet through my Wii so I can watch movies. My condo complex recently underwent an infrastructure upgrade performed by HiPoint. They installed ethernet lines throughout the building and to each unit, and are now the sole ISP. We currently get 100/100 Mbps internet service consistently, which is a serious improvement from the AT&T DSL we had previously. Their customer service has been helpful and does not require the endless phone menus that one gets with Comcast and others. HiPoint will soon complete the fiber installation directly to our building, and at that point will be offering symmetric 1 Gbps service for any unit that chooses to upgrade. As a heavy internet user for both work and recreation, and someone who has had service provided by Comcast, RCN and ATT at previous residences, I would rate HiPoint miles above their larger competitors. I have been extremely happy with their service, and would happily recommend them to anyone else. read more

I'd like to amend my review. I am leaving/moving from my unit in the south loop. I contacted them about the protocol of terminating service, but rather than taking the time to explain it to me, I was sent an email with some pretty--assertive terms regarding returning my rented modem, and when I saw my final statement, they didn't prorate my monthly fee for what they knew to be one month of service. So... I put them back in the crappy extractive business category. But their tech support is nice. read more

Called customer service 3 hours ago, but internet still down @ 9pm. We've had really good luck with these guys. Their service is top notch and if you ever have a problem they come out normally within 24 hours to fix it. I consistently get the 500 mbps they promise which is something I've never gotten with another service. If you are in a highrise and have one of the big providers you need to see what they can offer. read more

Consistently, speeds are less than advertised. I pay 50 dollars per month for 50 up and down, but is is throttled to 25up/20 down no matter the time of day. Latency is spotty, at best. Constantly buffering video on all of my devices. Technicians are clueless on the phone. read more

We have been with HiPoint Internet since we first moved in to the building in 2012 and we have not had any issues besides the previously-common building-wide infrastructure disruptions which also affected the ATT & RCN users. The only complaint that I have is that this very, very old $50 DSL plan (which was still much cheaper than the ATT plan at the time) that we've been paying for throughout the past 6 years should've been automatically updated or we should've been notified of the new plans that were made available. It took me trying to update my credit card information to contact them for updates, but at least they were honest about my newer, cheaper, and faster coaxial options. Ryan did an excellent job installing my new coaxial modem, and both the download and upload speeds are now tremendously improved! Thanks! read more
